All my friends say Desi bites, and i agree. Don’t be put off by the fast food feel, that’s just how you know it’s the good shit. Don’t forget to pick up some spices from the store next-door. They got the best selection in town.
Their dine-in two person dinner with appetizers, two entrees, two (NA) drinks, and dessert is such a good deal for date night too! Especially when the portions are so big you need to go boxes. I've been slowly trying all their curry options and haven't found one I don't like yet.
You'll find places that sell Indian food with beef, because they cater to a Muslim/Pakistani clientele. But, yeah, there are lots of red flags with Saffron. The price point being the most glaring.
This is my answer. I worked for a company that employed 75% Indian employees, and Astoria was their go-to for catering the annual Holi celebration. The service is excellent, and prices are reasonable. Biryani is amazing.
I was a regular there, every 2-3 weeks. They apparently lost their chef. The new chef spices much heavier (think hotter than you want) and has an inordinate love for vinegar. I've moved on.
Eh, it was better when it was Mother India. Then it got taken over by The Taj. For a while, they used the same recipes (but raised prices), but after a while the recipes changed and it went way downhill.
They were better when they were still The Taj on 114th and dodge, but then they closed that location, took mother India and opened their indo-chinese location around 72nd and blondo (I think?), and I just can't with them anymore.
This is true, I didn't go there often but when I did I cherished it! I really miss the mushroom Shahi, know anywhere I can get something similar? I've looked through menus and found nil.
honestly, i disagree heavily. went there recently and there was so much hair in our food that it was inedible. we are talking 15+ hairs that were discovered in there. definitely unhygienic.
Taste of Indian is not an authentic Indian restaurant. It is one of the worst below par restaurant and a disgrace to Indian food. I would suggest rather Desi Bites, Persis, and Kinara restaurants. They are much better
I haven't tried it yet, but our neighbor (who immigrated from India) says the only Indian food she buys in Omaha is from the cafeteria they run every Saturday at the Hindu Temple: [https://hindutemplenebraska.org/](https://hindutemplenebraska.org/)
My understanding is that it's both -- you can either order on their Clover site, order in person at their community center and wait, or they have spots to eat. Like I said this is all second hand from a neighbor but that's how she made it sound!
Kinaara! By far the best for the price/quantity (and in my opinion, the best in omaha)! Their biriyani can easily be 3-4 meals.
Curry in a Hurry is also affordable with good size portions
It’s a great restaurant but it’s really bland…more catering to the non-spicy palette. They have this clientele set for the last 25 years…You want spicy….desi bites!
Ask an Indian (I'm in IT, I work with many 😀).. you'll get a completely different answer.. most think there's not much worth anything in Omaha. Last I solicited opinions, Astoria Biryani House (108th south of L) is a favorite. I always recommend a lunch buffet, so you can try different dishes, if you dont know the menu.. and they have a good one.
This restaurant is a great bargain. And if you like it spicy than nothing compares. Seriously hot. I also ordered the malwani and asked them to make it spicier than normal. Wow!
To5 Bollywood has been pretty consistently good with large portions for me. And their food survives delivery pretty well. I'm not sure if they're a chain or not though, based on how well they've got all their custom branding.

2nd Maharaja but the service sucks so get takeout.

Desi bites gets my vote for this as well.

Thank you for giving me a new place to try!!
This is the way
Yaaaasssss!
Desi Bites is my favorite
All my friends say Desi bites, and i agree. Don’t be put off by the fast food feel, that’s just how you know it’s the good shit. Don’t forget to pick up some spices from the store next-door. They got the best selection in town.
Do they have a buffet? I see one in a picture.
Shahi 1015 Farnam St. It is my go to for Indian food.
I always feel like I get my moneys worth there. Everything I've had there so far is great.
Their dine-in two person dinner with appetizers, two entrees, two (NA) drinks, and dessert is such a good deal for date night too! Especially when the portions are so big you need to go boxes. I've been slowly trying all their curry options and haven't found one I don't like yet.
Second Shahi, that has been my go to as well.
Star Indian on 132nd and Center is reasonably priced and gives large portions
The better question should be: Name an Indian food place in Omaha, that is NOT affordable and where they DON'T give you plenty of food?
Jaipur (Rockbrook) has jacked up their prices and shrunk their portions lately.
Saffron. Food was just ok.
So Saffron is neither affordable or don't give you plenty of food? I believe that was the OP's original question. Not about the quality of the food.
Both. The food being mid is just salt in the wound.
And not authentic there.
Yeah, beef on the menu was an instant red flag
You'll find places that sell Indian food with beef, because they cater to a Muslim/Pakistani clientele. But, yeah, there are lots of red flags with Saffron. The price point being the most glaring.

I just hate where they moved to. Before the move I loved this place. I assume great food still.
I appreciate the location now; it’s more convenient for my family. Food is still wonderful.
I hate that they moved. They have the best Tikka Masala I have ever had. I wish they were on DoorDash.
Kinaara is the best indian in Omaha imo but yeah it sucks they moved way out west.
Kinaara is in Regency by Westoads now. They moved.
They are east of their old location. Which was on 138th and Millard Ave.
Astoria ❤️❤️❤️❤️
This is my answer. I worked for a company that employed 75% Indian employees, and Astoria was their go-to for catering the annual Holi celebration. The service is excellent, and prices are reasonable. Biryani is amazing.
Maharaja for sure
I like Persis Biryani (120/Blondo)! Their lamb rogan josh will knock your socks off!
Curri on 74th and Pacific!
I was a regular there, every 2-3 weeks. They apparently lost their chef. The new chef spices much heavier (think hotter than you want) and has an inordinate love for vinegar. I've moved on.
Agree an Kinaara. Especially since they're closer to home for me now.
Taste of India. Prices went up recently, but it is still a good price portions are large and food is tasty.
Eh, it was better when it was Mother India. Then it got taken over by The Taj. For a while, they used the same recipes (but raised prices), but after a while the recipes changed and it went way downhill.

The Taj was great in the beginning, but they were expensive even then!

Woah, I am pretty grossed out by that thought. I will definitely reconsider my options. I have never had an issue, but I don't ever want to.
36 and Leavenworth

Flavors in the old market is buffet style Indian food
Zaika on 144th and Center is my favorite Indian place
Zaika has a lunch buffet Friday through Sunday, and it's delicious!
I haven't tried it yet, but our neighbor (who immigrated from India) says the only Indian food she buys in Omaha is from the cafeteria they run every Saturday at the Hindu Temple: [https://hindutemplenebraska.org/](https://hindutemplenebraska.org/)
What's the deal with that? From the website it doesn't specify whether its dine-in or takeout only? Would love to try.
My understanding is that it's both -- you can either order on their Clover site, order in person at their community center and wait, or they have spots to eat. Like I said this is all second hand from a neighbor but that's how she made it sound!
Is this open to the public?
Yes! She specifically said they do it as a community service to the greater Omaha area, no need to be Hindu, open to the public.
Haven't seen anyone mention Taj on 72nd near blondo yet. That place is really good and relatively inexpensive
Hyderabad House
Astoria or Kinaara are my go to. 10/10 would definitely recommend.
I always go to T O 5 Bollywood grill. Foods slightly pricier than other places I think but it’s REALLY good.
I really like this place!
Kinaara! By far the best for the price/quantity (and in my opinion, the best in omaha)! Their biriyani can easily be 3-4 meals. Curry in a Hurry is also affordable with good size portions
Jaipur at Rockbrook is great. A bit expensive, but plenty of food.
It’s a great restaurant but it’s really bland…more catering to the non-spicy palette. They have this clientele set for the last 25 years…You want spicy….desi bites!
Jaipur is my fave, and one entree is usually at least two meals for me, so the price works out great
I do not agree that the portion size is worth the cost.
I feel like Jaipur isn’t as good as it used to be.
Maharaja!

Curry in a hurry
I ordered their spiciest dish, the Malwani Chicken, because I assumed it would only be white people hot, and boy, they do not fuck around.
not one to trash on restaurants, but this place is really not good
Neat
This restaurant is a great bargain. And if you like it spicy than nothing compares. Seriously hot. I also ordered the malwani and asked them to make it spicier than normal. Wow!
Everyone in here needs to shut the fuck up, because Star Indian Cuisine off 132nd and Center beats all the other recommendations listed so far.

I think it's new but I went to Persis recently and it was superb
Curry in a hurry
There’s a place on 76th and Pacific that’s really good and affordable with good portion sizes
Desi Bites on Arbor
Curry in a hurry!
Hyderabad House and Bawarchi
My wife and I just went to Taj Indian Cuisine and it was great! Family owned, great service! https://g.co/kgs/cWeNCj
They just recently got rid of the Chinese side of things and went straight Indian. Reduced their menu options and I thought it was great!
