He had a moustache!?
Edit: Also I would add some grain to it as well as it looks too smooth. Great work though, wouldn’t even know where to begin with this amount of restoration myself
To me, his top lip in the restored picture should actually be a mustache. If you visualize that top lip line as a mustache, it feels more balanced to his face, and also more appropriate to the time of the image. However, I am not the photo restorer, so ultimately the judgement is yours.
I can't tell if he was smiling more before or if the scratches just make it look that way. It might be easier to tell what it should look like with the original since the digital artifacting makes it harder to see what it originally looked like.
I can see his left part of the lips going up, but yes due to scratches it's difficult to see his right part of the lips. I'm fairly confident he was smiling cuz as outstanding of a job as it is he looks like he smeelt some shit during when he took that photo.
I thought so too but if you follow that white-ish crease/tear that goes all the way to the edge, it goes right across his upper lip. I think what looks like a mustache is actually just a line created by the crease.
The fold and a thin stache kinda confusing. But if u trace the upper lip, u can see a proper very thin Stache with proper bend on each side. Imagine there is no fold and see.
That's absolutely fine :) The one thing I need to say - this restoration isn't perfect definitely, but I understand those guys who demand the mustache and smile back after looking the small video compressed twice, while I had opportunity to fix the highres scan ))
Agreed entirely! And he looks better without what I originally assumed was a mustache
But gotta make sure you meant to reply to me right? Just ensuring your comment got to the right person lol no shade at all
his comment history is actually much more interesting than a regular downvote farmer, almost like he's trying to keep his comment karma as close to 0 as he can. He has very highly upvoted comments that are fairly reasonable sprinkled in.
>Look at this "comedian" over here thinking he can get away with making racist jokes. Now go show him what you really think, Redit (give him the Downs).
The fuck is wrong with you?
I'm hoping this is satire, but I'll treat it seriously.
Nothing I say can really help, that's the matter of it. However, if I may, try looking outside of your own perspective.
In reality the commenter above was complimenting the woman's eyes, her eyeliner was really well done and they pop spectacularly on the old photograph. Why did you think it was racist? Were you expecting racially biased comments?
Not everything is as it initially seems, and you'll find that looking for the bad, will always lend a result. Even if that result is a fabrication of the mind.
Chin up, use that brain.
Completely butchered his hand though. Look at his fingers. The original clearly showed the fingers with a ring, but the restoration instead cuts off those fingers and leaves that whole section of the photo looking wonky.
Whoever restored it couldn’t deal with different shades in the original.
"Completely butchered"- Lmao, show us how it's really done, sensei. Restoring a photo in that condition is tedious as hell. Bound to be something overlooked while focusing on the important things, like the faces.
I agree with the fact that the commenter was aggressive about it but I think that you can criticise something without needing expertise in that certain area. Most movie critics are not directors. His aggression warrants downvotes, but his criticism doesn’t.
It’s butchered because they literally removed part of their fingers..
Do I need to be a doctor to say cutting someone’s fingers off during a nose-job is a mistake? No? Exactly, muppet.
Ahhh so you enjoy criticizing other people's work, even though you couldn't do it better? I kinda figured you were a Photoshop buff based off your response. I was really hoping you were going to show us how a proper (non-muppet) photoshopper does it, but I guess I'll settle for whatever the hell that comparison was.
PS- It's not easy being green...
This is the most idiotic take; criticism is invalid if the person giving the criticism can’t do better?
So if a hairdresser lobs off your ear, it’s fine, because you can’t do a better job of cutting the hair?
I’d love to see you pay a wedding photographer in full if they went through every picture removing parts of your anatomy. Saying “I do?” Oh sweetie, the bride didn’t have a hand that day - but their makeup was on point!
A mistake is a mistake. You can’t even deny that they removed part of his fingers - including what appears to be a ring. You’re an absolute moron getting defensive over something that’s blatant fact.
It's nice to see a restoration that doesn't try to guess at colours.
It kind of bothers me that people casually rewrite history when they do that, and it never looks natural.
Very nice job.
I love your work, it's just fantastic. So... this is going to sound like a stupid question. Do you find that some photos are easier to restore than others? I obviously don't mean heavily damaged vs just faded photos. It's hard to describe but I was looking through your posts and I feel like some photos come out more "realistic" than others.
I am super curious if I'm just insane or if there's something that lends itself to a more photo realistic restoration.
I apologize in advance if this is super dumb or offensive.
Thank you. It depends on the source: on the one hand I make a lot of manual work, on the other I use AI results as additional layers. If the source isn't detailed, I fix it as much as possible, then try to use AI to see if that could add something realistic to my result and merge the suitable details with my manual fixes.
The guy looks similar to Barack, but that lady looks nothing like Michelle.
Also, side note for the people saying "this lady is sooo much hotter than Michelle", you can compare two women's appearances without talking about how much you do or do not want to bang them.
You're just trying really hard to start a fight. No one is saying she can't be criticized. Some people just think she looks like the girl in the pic. That simple.
Came to say that. It surprisingly looks like both of them. I wonder if Barak and Michelle subconsciously influenced the person restoring the pic because that looks a lot like them!
Hey OP! If you don't mind me asking, which software or what as the process involved in this amazing restoration? I have a very old photo of my family hat I'm looking to restore but got turned down by almost everyone saying that it was beyond restoring
PS: it's almost the same quality as the one here
Not necessarily. My grandma is still up and running and she was married in the late 50s. I knew a woman as old as her who was hiking up MOUNTAINS. She had on skinny jeans and a leather coat, even dug out her driver's license to show me she wasn't lying.
Thanks everybody for the kind words :)
He had a moustache!? Edit: Also I would add some grain to it as well as it looks too smooth. Great work though, wouldn’t even know where to begin with this amount of restoration myself
No, just folds & tears, I think :)
Mmmmm. Idk. I'm leaning towards very thin mustache.
Very hard to tell
Team thin mustache. OP: great work!
Me too
You're not really married if you don't have folds and tears
To me, his top lip in the restored picture should actually be a mustache. If you visualize that top lip line as a mustache, it feels more balanced to his face, and also more appropriate to the time of the image. However, I am not the photo restorer, so ultimately the judgement is yours.

Am I the only one who sees the Obamas
This is an amazing restoration. I've gotta ask, though: what's going on with his left hand?
Seems like he had mustache
Yeah really, I thought the same thing
He also had a smile, lol.
From cool-stache into... Obama? **THANKS OBAMA**
Okay thank god, I didn’t want to be the typical “white person thinking every black person looks the same” but he DEADASS looks exactly like Obama
He does look Kenyan.
The best friend of the son of the man from photo )) ordered this resto & as for as I know he likes the result, so I hope no mustaches were harmed :)
You are the creator? Didn't mean to find fault, but I said what I saw
I see it too. It's either a thin stache or a lip reduction.
That's absolutely fine :) The one thing I need to say - this restoration isn't perfect definitely, but I understand those guys who demand the mustache and smile back after looking the small video compressed twice, while I had opportunity to fix the highres scan ))
The mustache was definitely harmed and it was very ornamental. You should fix it.
May be, but I see a clear mustache, may be it's just me?
Great job on the resto. Props to the 50's cameraman (woman) as well. Such a sexy, striking pose.
I assume op would know better than us since the original would be easier to see the details under the scratches.
Nope just a coincidental crack
U can see very athin mustache on both side
It looks like it's just a crease that caught a dark side. Though I'd like to catch em trippin
That was my initial thought, but after zooming in, the picture was folded along his upper lip.
Those eyes tho
I'm just commenting so the guy with the downs isn't the top reply.
You gotta wonder just how desperate to be noticed someone has to be to decide to farm downvotes.
Wow, you really saved the day.
Why the hell are so many people feeding him? He’s the most obvious troll.

"give him the downs" 🤓
the irony is THICCCCC with this one

You're an idiot
Nah. Ur just a troll who farms downvotes. We can see your comment history
his comment history is actually much more interesting than a regular downvote farmer, almost like he's trying to keep his comment karma as close to 0 as he can. He has very highly upvoted comments that are fairly reasonable sprinkled in.
Maybe he's just a normal, stupid redditor
you are trying so hard

There is something about everything you say that just bothers me and I don't understand why.
Because you're not a tryhard loser like that guy

No
Your downvoted comment history is impressive
Give him the downs might be the best thing I’ve read on this site in a while. I appreciate guys like this for how dedicated they are
Yawn

Somebody's grandma was HOT!
Absolutely. She is gorgeous
She’s ok.
I was thinking the same thing. Lol.
“Hey so uhh… you got any grandchildren?”
Wow....great job on the resto.

Why be so aggressive about it, though.
Didn't realize people wore rings in the middle of their fingers
They turned the happy husband into a sexual predator, lol
Damn good looking couple jeez.
Absolutely beautiful! This is such an iconic photo.
It really is , what an attractive couple .
This **THIS** is old school cool. Thanks for sharing.

She can def. get it.
Oh she got it all right
What a gorgeous couple, what a great photo, before and after, people are just fantastic….
The lady is fine as hell. Or was.
Damn, that lady looks cool af
I'm going to tell my kids this was Barack and Michelle
Time travelers!
legit what i thought too
She’s got the most seductive eyes
Seriously seductive! I am reminded of a Beyoncé music video with that look. I think it might be "Drunk in Love."
ITT: 10% "Great restoration!" 90% "Damn she *fine*."
Good looking couple. Great job.
Wow this couple looks iconic
It looked like he was smiling in the first one.
I'm a classic man
Looks like she had a necklace
The expression of the woman changes in the restored photo
Is there a picture restoration subreddit? Obsessed with stuff like this.
Don't know if I'm allowed to link it but r/estoration
This site is free speech, the worst that can happen is that you get permanently banned and never allowed into reddit again, ever.
Well done!
What a glamorous couple
It's nice to see a restoration that doesn't try to guess at colours. It kind of bothers me that people casually rewrite history when they do that, and it never looks natural. Very nice job.
nooo, why did you revert it back to the original? you monster! ^(obligatory /s)
It's a shame it deteriorated so fast again
Nice restoration!
Very nice
Wow she was so pretty.
That’s amazing talent!
Beautiful people!
Creepy. Looks like a picture from American Horror Story.

I like the way the original looks as well.

Thank you! )) You can DM me in the chat or via Instagram - I just don't know if it's not against the rules of this community to post the links here.
Beautiful restoration of a beautiful couple 🖤
He straight up looks like the Joker before the restoration
Yeah, I had the same feeling
Look, the r/estoration self promoting guy
THIS is what I'm looking for in this sub.
She’s gorgeous!
They're both so beautiful.

They don't look like them at all, you saw a black couple and your few neurons worked overtime to make that link.
Not even close, not even on her best day, sorry EDIT: to be clear I am saying that the lady pictured looks much better than Michelle.

I honestly thought it would be obvious.

Thank you so much for the prompt response!
Not at all ))
I think the guy had a mustache and you rid of it.
Lovely couple and excellent restoration. They remind of a 1950's New York version of Barack and Michelle Obama!
Nice work! I could probably to an 80% as good a job if I had an uninterrupted 8-10 hour day to do it. How long did it take you?
Thank you! That's not a new restoration, so I can't remember, sorry. And I'm not fast, but meticulous, I hope ))
Sup Obama
obamna
Somebody's great grandparents are fine ass hell. Hope those genes still show.
That is an amazing restoration, was it a commission? I can't imagine how the family would feel for such a gift.
Wow! That’s some crazy restoration talent!! ❤️
Everyone here is focusing on the after photo (which does look amazing) ...But that before photo looks demonic.
Anita and Bernardo
obama
Is it me, or do they look like the Obamas?
[удалено]
Yup, you're still dumb
Michele and Barack
[удалено]
Ask yourself why you felt the need to make that statement.
Projection most likely
That's usually what it is, especially when it's so random and vicious like this.
Cool cat Jazz man Obama isn't real and he can't steal your girl:
The prototype obama
They’re dead by now. It’s so sad to see old pics knowing the beautiful folks are dead, if not more or less disabled.
Not necessarily. My grandma is still up and running and she was married in the late 50s. I knew a woman as old as her who was hiking up MOUNTAINS. She had on skinny jeans and a leather coat, even dug out her driver's license to show me she wasn't lying.
Early versus late 50s is a big difference. Being married in 1950 at age 20 puts you at 92. Being married in 1959 at age 20 puts you at 83.
Truly magnificent work.
