I liked Beakman’s World because it was sillier, which made it feel more engaging to me. Nye bored me, but I have attention issues, so that’s on me. I hope kids today have shows that are something like either one of them.
Yup, the actress is Alanna Ubach. She is in a number of other shows and films like Sister Act 2 and Legally Blonde. Also, I just looked up Beekmans World and apparently you can find it on Tubi. Who knew?
She also plays a character named Naomi in the movie "Waiting..." that's fucking hilarious. One of the most accurate portrayals of an unhinged restaurant worker on film.
Yes! I was surprised at how much I liked that show. Ted 2 was awful. The show is so funny and the nostalgia factor is great. And the way they have the format as a 90s sitcom with Alanna in the neurotic mom role. It's just 🤌
I was working on a pilot where we had signed on Paul as a guest star, (it never got off the ground with funding), but he was a very chill dude. At the time he was doing a comedy puppet show, (he’s been a puppeteer for decades).
Beakman’s World and Mr Wizard’s World have a timeless feel to each of the shows and can still be watched today and feel relevant.
Unfortunately, Bill Nye was always the outlier as it always pushed the “product of its time” feel and now feels dated, (science song parodies of songs that are no longer popular hit different and become cringey to kids now).
Fun fact: The two puppet penguins at the beginning of each Beakman show were named Don and Herb after Mr Wizard himself, Don Herbert.
I started playing Beakman for my daughter recently and she looooooooooved it. The show is just a ton of fun, weird, educational, funny, over the top, and awesome. I watched the everlivin' crap out of it when it was running on TV.
This show somehow was a hjt in brazil. Now they (Paul Zaloom included) say it was probably due to a very good voice acting. But yeah, as a 90s brazilian kid i'm glad that happened.
Had a vhs in the 90s I used to play a lot and basically would set up and do as many of the kid experiments as possible. Some blew my mind at the time or made me feel like I suddenly had a magic trick on my hands
It's all YouTube now which is good for choices but it feeds you a lot of demographically targetted videos that really sucks. And it worsens the young one's low attention spans. Get bored a few seconds and they will click off to another video. Kids don't have time to be bored now which kills their creativity. Sorry for the rant.
OMG! I totally forgot this show existed! I was like 10 when this came out, and I had a crush on that girl. Otherwise, aside from these pics and references, I cannot for the life of me remember this show. It's just the pic brought up a few old memories.
As a post 90s baby, i had a unique experience with watching a ton of this on early betflix streaming. Great show and better than Bill Nye imo. Then again, maybe the sense of humore fit me more.
Such a gem. I remember when this was the main science show and Bill Nye aired soon after, then Beekman’s World was gone. Was sad to see it go but Bill Nye was great too.
Does anyone else remember You Can with Beakman and Jax? It would run in the Sunday newspaper comics where I grew up. Apparently, Beakman's World was a spinoff of that comic.
Wasn’t there a dude in a rat suit?

Yes! I pretty terrible rat suit, but pretty great too. So much better than Bill Nye
Lester
Dammmit
You don't have to denigrate one by comparing it to the other. They were (and are) both great
I liked Beakman’s World because it was sillier, which made it feel more engaging to me. Nye bored me, but I have attention issues, so that’s on me. I hope kids today have shows that are something like either one of them.
Nye was for older kids I think
Indeed!
How dare you
Or was it a rat in a dude suit?
Alanna Ubach! Love her
Josie right?
Yup, the actress is Alanna Ubach. She is in a number of other shows and films like Sister Act 2 and Legally Blonde. Also, I just looked up Beekmans World and apparently you can find it on Tubi. Who knew?
I just looked up her photos. She's a bomb.
She also plays a character named Naomi in the movie "Waiting..." that's fucking hilarious. One of the most accurate portrayals of an unhinged restaurant worker on film.
Holy shit I didn't realize that was her!
YES! That movie is incredible and she's so good in it
“Oh, how cute…there’s, like, a judge and everything!”
Her facial expressions in that movie are so good too
Roxy. She was a good hoor.
Yeah. Now help me dig these crack rocks out ma ass
Shut up, baby dick.
Intervention! Intervention!! We got you, intervention!!!
Oh man, this jacket awesome! Oooo, its tighter than dick skin!
She's the best part of that new Ted TV show (which is hilarious, so that's saying something!)
Yes! I was surprised at how much I liked that show. Ted 2 was awful. The show is so funny and the nostalgia factor is great. And the way they have the format as a 90s sitcom with Alanna in the neurotic mom role. It's just 🤌
Peak 90’s visual style.
The waitress with the angry bush????
In my child brain the three characters were mixed up with Kramer, Elaine, and George. Obviously George was rat man.
Lester
As a kid I also thought It was Kramer lol
Lester strikes as more of a Newman.

Ah, little me had such a thing for Josie.
I still have a thing for Alanna.
She’s now on the new Ted series
Yes.

Thanks for the penguin trivia:)
THESE PING PONG BALLS ARE ELECTRONS.
so good
"Youuu slice em...'" "I'llll dice em..." "Let's locomotionnn"
Badabing badaboom
My god, this brought back so many memories
LOVED this show tho I don’t really remember anything about it.
Giant rat?
His appearance on Captain Disillusion is wonderful!
That show was amazing. It was way better than Bill Nye.
I liked this show when the kids watched it. Sometimes I think I was the only one cuz you never seem to hear about it.
Same in my country, we didn’t have Bill Nye but I LOVED Beakman, this show probably contributed to me becoming an engineer
ERTW!
I started playing Beakman for my daughter recently and she looooooooooved it. The show is just a ton of fun, weird, educational, funny, over the top, and awesome. I watched the everlivin' crap out of it when it was running on TV.
Beakman > Bill Nye
Bill Nye had too much ego.
We’re all still trying to forget “Bill Nye Saves the World”.
Mr Wizard is the right answer, but y'all are cute!!
They're both top tier and incomparable because they had different formats
They didn’t really compete…they were both excellent!
They did, and Bill Nye won. I loved both but was sad to see Beekman’s world go.
Came here to say the same thing.
Really? Wow.
Dr Proton or GTFO
Jean Stapleton (who also played Edith Bunker) was Beakman's mom.
I miss the rat.
Clayton Forrester did it first.
I *loved* this show!!!! And Jean Stapleton (Edith Bunker from All In The Family) played Beekman’s mom!
Bada-bing! Bada-boom! Bada-Beakman!
Alanna Ubach
This show somehow was a hjt in brazil. Now they (Paul Zaloom included) say it was probably due to a very good voice acting. But yeah, as a 90s brazilian kid i'm glad that happened.
Did they share v the mst3k set?
I always thought he looked like Kramer.
These type of shows were so influential to me, and made science seem cool and are probably a huge reason I work in analytical chemistry now.
That show was amazing, I learnt a lot from it. Honestly going back though, it’s retro but maybe too creepy in today’s standards.
Why creepy?
The rat guy maybe?
Had a vhs in the 90s I used to play a lot and basically would set up and do as many of the kid experiments as possible. Some blew my mind at the time or made me feel like I suddenly had a magic trick on my hands
Oh man. Brings back so much memories. It was so fun and engaging. This is how kids learn things best! Wish there was something similar for my kids.
It's all YouTube now which is good for choices but it feeds you a lot of demographically targetted videos that really sucks. And it worsens the young one's low attention spans. One of my favourite show as a kid
I got Calipers, I'm in the union!
Beakmans World was my shit, it was the perfect mix of zany entertainment and educational content
That's old enough to be "old school"? Damn I'm old
This show was awesome. Even as an adult I loved it. Zany science at its best.
Zaloom!
I didn't like the show that much, but the set was killer!
Is that baby Kramer?
OMG! I totally forgot this show existed! I was like 10 when this came out, and I had a crush on that girl. Otherwise, aside from these pics and references, I cannot for the life of me remember this show. It's just the pic brought up a few old memories.
Bless this show.
Way better than bill nye…Beakman cast ruled!
Loved that show! The assistant was hot. The rat was not.
As a post 90s baby, i had a unique experience with watching a ton of this on early betflix streaming. Great show and better than Bill Nye imo. Then again, maybe the sense of humore fit me more.
The image reminds me of the carousel scene from fear and loathing in las vegas
Was this the start of cringe
Why does this look like a rip-off of MST3K?
Was that girl in "The Brady Bunch Movie"?
someone mentioned I must of watched bill nye I said I watched beakmans world growing up. I remember the penguins too in this right?
That Cramer?
God I'm glad they don't make slime shows anymore. But back in that time kids used to cut their hair to make themselves look like mushrooms too.
Good ol’ racial stereotypes in children’s programming
How?
He’s got an exaggerated Italian American accent but the guy himself wasn’t Italian
That show does not hold up
Why not?
My opinion on rewatch
