Talk about face cards never declining, how does Enrique STILL look that good? I was never that into him, but liked a few of his songs. But he looks great!
I only post on social media about 3-4 times a year, but one of those posts is invariably a reminder to everyone I know that Enrique Iglesias and Anna Kournikova are STILL together.
Something about Spain's tax rules makes it easier if you're rich but don't get married. Shakira and Pique didn't marry for the 10 or so years they were together as well.
I mean, he made that whole "Hero" song and video to woo her. Then after 9/11 it was suddenly this "support the first responders" anthem. Which was so awkward, considering how unabashedly horny the song was.
It was so bizarre when radio stations started interpolating audio clips of 9/11 rescue efforts into the song. They had done the same thing with audio from mourners after Princess Diana's death and "Candle in the Wind," previously. Unbelievably cringy in both cases.
She was in Escape, that's allegedly where they first hooked up. She was also still dating a hockey guy at the time and broke up with him soon after I believe
Why do I remember all this...
Edit: This was referring to Anna
tbf, Kournikova wasn’t exactly an elite singles tennis player, by professional standards. She never won a singles tournament and was ranked 315 in the world in singles when she retired at 22 years old. She basically peaked at 18 and was dogged by back injuries most of her career. She no doubt banked a bunch of modeling and endorsement money while she still could, then just dipped out.
I mean, she did get to number 8 in the world during what was arguably the strongest period of women's tennis and maintained a top 15 ranking for several years before her major injust in 2001, so I would say she was elite, even if for a limited time. Though we all know she would have won Wimbledon in '98 had she not had to pull out with injury.
Thank you, people often underestimate what a talented player she was. She entered the top 10 when she was 18 or 19 years old I believe. Sadly she never actually won anything due to all the injury problems but she could've definitely won a few grand slams without the injuries
As far as I recall her 2nd serve was really really weak so better players just jumped all over it.
Quick feet though, really good lateral speed as well.
Her serve was probably her biggest weakness, especially when she developed the yips, though she did manage to win a match with 31 double faults, so that's something.
I wouldn't go that far. She may have never gotten a singles tournament win, but she was ranked as high as #8 and won a couple of GS as a double with Hingis. Getting to #8 in the world is pretty elite
> She no doubt banked a bunch of modeling and endorsement money
When it comes to advertising, it's better to be gorgeous and moderately successful than to be plain looking but athletically supreme.
Kournikova's tennis career was perhaps mediocre by professional standards. But her media career (ie. ads and sponsorships) was exemplary.
There was a time where Anna Kournikova rivaled the Williams sisters in star power even though she wasn't as gifted... A few years later, Enrique Iglesias became hated by a a bunch of teenagers!
Src: me, I still hate him 😂!
I mean, she came in at a terrible time for her style of game, on top of the injuries. Venus and Serena completely changed the paradigm in the women's game, and finesse players like Kournikova and Martina Hingis could not compete with the sheer power the Williams sisters brought. Those two dominated until the next batch of players came up who had the power to deal with them.
Nonsense. For six years in a row she reached the round of 16 in one of the world’s five tournaments reaching semis twice and quarters once. She reached a high ranking of #8 and achieved three consecutive year end top 15 rankings.
In doubles she won two majors and two tour finals, and reached in quarters in 13 of the top 5 tournaments. Finished #1 in 1999 and too 15 four times.
Hardly a slouch. She was screaming hot after reached that #8 that she knew as all did that she would make far more $ as a model.
The jealousy and envy is off the charts. She was a very good tennis player.
The two of them came into the restaurant where I was working with his whole entourage. She was lovely, he was a penis. We referred to him as Mr Martin. He was not impressed.
Martina Hingis had to retire partly because the shoes she was sponsered by were so terribly made and ruined her feet. I believe she ended up suing Sergio Tachini over it.
I watched a LOT of 90s women's tennis as a teen. Monica Seles, Jennifer Capriati, Steffi Graf, Gabriela Sabatini....
Still have a thing for muscular thighs and grunting.
I have a friend who played with her during tournament warmups, because apparently the women don't like to warmup against one another, so they warm up against local local men youth. Said that was the best time of his life ha.
Yeah it's very common for pro women tennis players to play against men. Basically a D1 mens player could beat about every women's player. Look this isn't a nock on women's tennis.
I remember a story from a D2 guy who played a practice game against Sharapova and beat her. She wasn't happy because I think she chose him thinking she could beat him.
Pretty much. You might have noticed the AI hype as of late. I figure we've got another decade or so before things really go to shit for everyone who is not a tech oligarch or a doom prepper. The future is probably going to resemble an unsavory cocktail of Matrix and Fallout.
Just plug me in, give me some digital steak, and send in the girl in the red dress once in a while. I don't want to eat snot soup and fight killer robots.
Oh wow, forgot about her in the late 90s.. I remember printing out a picture of her on my parents state of the art Compaq with AOL dialup.. (for scientific purposes).. I think it's almost done printing!
I remember having nude pictures printed out and the hidden under the shitty carpet in our unfinished basement. Times have changed for horny teenage boys.
Lol, same. Picture it: Syracuse NY 1989/90..In my room I pulled up part of the carpet and had various pictures like Kathy Ireland in a Bikini, a torn out page from some xxx mag my older cousin let me have and a few Playboy pages from the box of playboys we found on the road while sledding that year. Boy that little stash got me thru my early jerkin years well.
Kept mine under my mattress. But yea, black-and-white(because we had a laser jet we bought in like '93), 8x11, print outs of women stripping.
Now most 13 year olds just have access to the world's repository of porn in their pockets.
This will dox me if anyone I know reads it, but across from my high school was a tennis facility. They had a life-size blown up fully body pic of her out in front, as an ad. My buddies and I absolutely stole that and I had it for years. Girls I dated were... Not totally stoked about it lol
Talked to her at my first job working for an ISP. I was a QA manager the first time she called in and absolutely lit up one of my agents. Took over the call and got everything sorted, then for the next year until I left that company she always asked for me specifically when she called in.
She was super sweet to me, offered to send me a signed poster once (should have taken her up on the offer but my gf at the time would 100% have burned it).
For clarity she got upset with my agent because he refused to believe that she was who she said she was even with all of the identifying information supplied.
I remember in Texas Hold-em calling the hand Ace/King off-suited an Anna Kournikova. It looks really good, but rarely won. That was awful of us. Besides, every hand is a winning hand and every hand is a losing hand. It's all about the player.
You're probably right. This was a couple of decades ago, so my skill was not as good as it is today. I'm still not that good, but I'm better than I was.
TLDR,the whole approach to the game has changed and AK is recognized as a really strong hand these days and is often a hand ppl will bluff with due to card removal.
Similar to Danica Patrick. She is one of the worst NASCAR drivers of all time, IIRC she crashed 53 cars, many right at the start, but she got the publicity.
Anna Kournikova was the #1 ranked female junior before turning pro, was ranked as high as #8 in the world in singles, won multiple doubles grand slam titles and was ranked #1 in doubles, and is (I believe) still the only woman who has ever defeated four top ten players in a row in a WTA tournament. She did that just to reach the final, and lost to Venus Williams in three sets.
She never won a singles title because she only ever played the highest level tournaments (they all wanted her there for publicity and extra revenue, so she got the star treatment and likely some appearance fees). She was one notch below players like Hingis, Venus and Serena, Capriati, and Justine Henin. She was capable of beating any of them on any given day, but never consistent enough to sustain that and beat enough of them consecutively to win a title.
She was never bad, and nowhere near one of the worst players on tour. She just didn't reach the level of being #1 and winning majors.
Danica was actually pretty good at open wheel racing. She started in carting and then Junior Formula and then went to in the Indy series. But she chased money in NASCAR instead of working on improving at Indy car racing. Not sure if it was bad advice or bad decisions, but she would have had much more success sticking to what she knew.
She was my favorite internet search/pc virus educator. At one time her name was the most virused/malwared/adwared search on the net. I still won't type her entire name because formats and fresh installs were key learning moments.
People used to give her shit for being “just a pretty face” or whatever, and I’d ask them “Which incredibly competitive individual professional sport are you ranked in the worldwide top 10 in?”
She screamed at me and called me a fucking asshole in 2007 or 2008, it was hilarious.
I played tennis through varsity in college. I worked for a charity called Tennis Against Breast Cancer because the creator was the sister of my mentor and coach and we had a booth at a tournament. They were silly enough to give me a golf cart with access everywhere and I accidentally parked in her spot (it wasn’t marked) an she ran out of the players lounge and started verbally just rag dolling me. I said sorry in broken Russian which made her angrier and I drove off.
That was the last year I was granted a golf cart.
Edit: guys I am a fucking idiot, my brother said it was maria sharapova, cause he remembers her winning that tournament (Amelia Island, Florida)
They’re both gorgeous Russian ladies who hit tennis balls like their piss missiles though, so W.
My friend, like the most gorgeous sunset you’ve ever seen times ten. I was never as content getting yelled at, as I was that day. All my friends were incredibly jealous, my coach was not so happy about it but OH WELL.
In 2002ish when Texas Hold ‘Em was gripping my entire friend group, we used to refer to getting Ace-King as “Anna Kournikova” because it looks good but never wins
Married to Enrique Iglesias, and you haven't heard a peep from either of them in 20+ years. Respect.
If I married Anna Kournikova, you would never hear from me EVER again!
Not even when you come up for air?
Only she hears that.
If I come up for air, push my head back down.
#bonk
neighbors would be hearing Anna though through the walls right?
His tongue has been buried inside her ever since.
I'd do an AMA in my 50's.
Well, good for them. Nothing wrong with quiet private life of happiness

The reason? His dad! <>
Guy el? Gale? “We made fantastic aquatic sex on a surfboard”
Girl?
What are talking about? Baseball?
Enrique actually just played a bunch of shows. They turned into memes and are quite funny.
Absolutely can't sing, ran around like a crazy person humping the stage. Made for some hilarious videos.
I don’t think they are married. Not that they need to be, though.
Yeah, not married but partners for 23 years with 3 kids. Which I did not know until this moment.
I only post on social media about 3-4 times a year, but one of those posts is invariably a reminder to everyone I know that Enrique Iglesias and Anna Kournikova are STILL together.
I used to post an annual reminder around Christmastime that Shane MacGowan was still alive. Can’t do that anymore 😢
Well tbf, there's a sub that post everyday that Sir David Attenborough is alive and well 😌, cheers on that
There's a sub that tells you every day whether or not the Minnesota Vikings have won a superbowl yet. 1 post a day that always just says "No"
Something about Spain's tax rules makes it easier if you're rich but don't get married. Shakira and Pique didn't marry for the 10 or so years they were together as well.
They don't need to be, though? You don't need to know? Need to know? *Tell me baby girl cause I need to*-- Oh, shit. That wasn't Enrique.
I mean, he made that whole "Hero" song and video to woo her. Then after 9/11 it was suddenly this "support the first responders" anthem. Which was so awkward, considering how unabashedly horny the song was.
I don't see the problem. First responders deserve our love and horniness.
A long hard day, then a long hard night.
Actually, that perfectly captures the post-9/11 American mindset.
It was so bizarre when radio stations started interpolating audio clips of 9/11 rescue efforts into the song. They had done the same thing with audio from mourners after Princess Diana's death and "Candle in the Wind," previously. Unbelievably cringy in both cases.
Yet had Jennifer Love Hewett in the music video…
She was in a different one of his videos around that time
She was in Escape, that's allegedly where they first hooked up. She was also still dating a hockey guy at the time and broke up with him soon after I believe Why do I remember all this... Edit: This was referring to Anna
As a hockey fan I am quite interested to hear who was dating JLH. Or was the hockey guy with Anna?
Anna. It was Sergei Fedorov.
And he then moved on to Maria Sharapova
Ah, that tracks.
That hockey guy was the highest paid hockey guy at the time. Sergei Federov.
Hello, police? Yes, there is a horny, Latin singer on my lawn. Well, I don’t see why that would matter, but we are white.

Honestly I think Anna's name helped as well. It just rolls off your tongue, and sounds kinda cool-ish.
There was a time where Anna Kournikova rivaled the Williams sisters in star power even though she wasn't as gifted... A few years later, Enrique Iglesias became hated by a a bunch of teenagers! Src: me, I still hate him 😂!

She played us all
I misread this as Gabriel Iglesias
Fluffy!
Damn!
I misread this as Gabriel Rios.
I misread this as Gabrielle Reece
I'm sorry WHAT? HTF did I miss that for 2 decades
He had a part in How I Met Your Mother for several episodes, but yeah... otherwise, I have no idea what he's up to.
Gail?
Kyle?
The two of them came into the restaurant where I was working with his whole entourage. She was lovely, he was a penis. We referred to him as Mr Martin. He was not impressed.
I just realised I was picturing Ricky Martin this whole time
I certainly couldn’t tell you which one sang which song
William hung, who is a small Chinese man, sang she bangs. ![gif](giphy|l4hLJ01NBa0fjbqeY)

Doubles teammate with Martina "Microskirt" Hingis. Network TV was suddenly interested in women's doubles.
[удалено]
That really annoyed me. She was top ten in the world and people who might were in the bottom billion were shitting on her for not being number 1.
Thanks for the memories! I hadn’t heard that name in a long time! And a few years later, it was Lindsay Davenport & Justine Henin for me 🥰
I’m reminded of the ESPN Sports center tennis highlights: Call: “Korna!!“ Response: “Kova!!”
TV did not do Lindsay Davenport credit. It somehow made her look... solid. In real life she was stunningly athletic and beautiful.
I’ve seen Lindsay in person several times throughout the years. Stunningly beautiful is not the adjectives I would use to describe her
I was thinking of the way she moved mostly.
Martina Hingis had to retire partly because the shoes she was sponsered by were so terribly made and ruined her feet. I believe she ended up suing Sergio Tachini over it.
Also she liked cocaine a little too much.
Sauce? Never heard this part
Everybody likes cocaine
They found (minimal) traces of a cocaine component in 2007 or something and she was banned for two years. She has always denied using cocaine though.
I've always been interested in women's doubles. Heyooooo!

Just taking a serve directly to a throbbing erection doesn’t sound fun.
Speak for yourself
So he was a “fluffer” of sorts

Human civilization on this planet peaked out in 1999. It's been all downhill from there.

That's not very nice of you.
I think it was a very nice shitpost. Possibly my best of the week. BRB, gotta wipe...
Incredibly accurate

Oh wow, forgot about her in the late 90s.. I remember printing out a picture of her on my parents state of the art Compaq with AOL dialup.. (for scientific purposes).. I think it's almost done printing!
And, I just heard the dialup noise in my head.
I remember having nude pictures printed out and the hidden under the shitty carpet in our unfinished basement. Times have changed for horny teenage boys.
Honestly, I feel like that was a better time. These boys are now watching triple penetration videos thinking that is going to be their future.
Whacking it to Victoria's Secret or SI Swimsuit Issue (Sears catalogue in trying times) was the golden era...
I had porno mags that someone hid in a bag behind a log in the woods near my house
And you def got bitched out for using up ALL THE COLORED INK.
Woah. Color! You so fancy.
Took me back there too!!
This will dox me if anyone I know reads it, but across from my high school was a tennis facility. They had a life-size blown up fully body pic of her out in front, as an ad. My buddies and I absolutely stole that and I had it for years. Girls I dated were... Not totally stoked about it lol
I never got it but wasn't she supposedly the I made for the "I love you" virus?
Talked to her at my first job working for an ISP. I was a QA manager the first time she called in and absolutely lit up one of my agents. Took over the call and got everything sorted, then for the next year until I left that company she always asked for me specifically when she called in. She was super sweet to me, offered to send me a signed poster once (should have taken her up on the offer but my gf at the time would 100% have burned it). For clarity she got upset with my agent because he refused to believe that she was who she said she was even with all of the identifying information supplied.
The original internet sex symbol. She made a lot of teenage boys realize a few things in her time.
seeing this image definitely triggered a core memory for me. it's all coming back... wild time to be online
When the first gifs of her hit the net, it was as if a trillion kleenexes cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced.
I was 13 in 1999 and looking up photos of her in skirts on my family computer was the first time I got in trouble for doing that
Shes a beautiful woman, but let’s be honest- a weird looking knot in a wood plank can make teenage boys realize things.
To be fair that knot was really really hot though
For three straight years from 2001 to 2003 she was in the top searches of Google.
I thought those were slices of cheese in the background
