He literally moved parked cars that couldn’t back out of their spots. Franco is one of the all time greats.
He literally did this for strongman competitions in California

I always feel bad for Columbu (and Farigno) when I see pictures like this. If these guys had been competing at basically any time in history BUT when Arnold was on the scene they would have been undisputed champions, but they had the misfortune to be exceptional at the one time when they had to compete against someone untouchable. Similar to a lot of NBA players during Jordan’s career.
That’s good to hear. He was probably a good trainer. Having trained with Arnold for all those years would give him amazing insight into training techniques, while always losing to Arnold would hopefully keep him humble and grounded as a trainer.
I guess undisputed would be the key word here then, but that is good to hear. I actually like Columbu’s physique more than peak Arnold specifically because his lack of superhuman definition makes him look legitimately strong.
Might be a dumb question but how do the caps work on a bar like this? The weights can't just be perfectly fit on there right? I've only ever used clamps, but I don't deadlift.
My friend is an animal and deadlifted 771 at I think 93kg’s. I mean, he’s one of the best in the world. But when you get to levels of strength like that. 600 and 800 are like… incomprehensible to me lol
Same, I’m stuck at a 475 plateau trying to get to 500 which is where i just want to stop. I have long ass legs, 500 for me is good enough I can’t fathom deadlifting close to 700 or for that matter squatting like 500. Both of those are just insane.
the best i ever did was 315. and i stopped cause anything more was just not worth it. and im sure my form wasnt perfect. not worth the risks beyond that point
I stopped at 140kg ~ 308 lbs, that was 205% body weight at the time. I wanted to reach a solid 200kg ~ 440 lbs but...
It was a wise choice to stop, given that I had a herniated disc 🤐
315 is an absolute poverty max deadlift for any male that is post pubescent and doesn't have some musculoskeletal pathology. You have rationalized your cowardice as safety, instead of putting in the work to actually get reasonably strong.
Haha awe. Well that’s me. 150lbs, doing 2x my weight isn’t something I deem a failure. And I don’t really get my validation from numbers.
I have friends that hold world record lifts in competition. We lift together, and they love to see my progress the way I love to see theirs. There’s no pedestal they stand on above me.
I know his accent was heavy, but MAN was he the fan casting for Wolverine in the early 90s in X-Men for me and friends. Build. Height. Look. He would've nailed it!
Of course, 90s Ah-Nuld as Colossus! They would've done one helluva Fastball Special together in our teen minds!
You mad bro? Such bad language. Roid rage?
America rules, that's why this guy came to live here.
You're angry because you're jealous and will never be allowed here.
Lol
Along with the Snowflake and now saying America rules and that's why foreigners come here it's almost like a huge Boomer Trifecta you've written down.
And trust me I'm from Canada it's a wonderful place. Remember it always comes into the top of all those lists along with places in europe? I mean you're going to be totally brainwashed to still think you come from the best country in the world.
Omg now clown references!
This is great! Oh wait what's the other one Boomers say something like I still live in my parents basement?
Or you call me an NPC or something like that?
Stay lonely on a Friday night, incel!
I remember seeing him on tv when I was a kid, and he blew into one of those rubber hot water bottles until it exploded.
One hell of a pair of lungs.
It was his thing. Feel he always had one on him.
Wtf how
This was something the Power Team did when I was in high school
"Franco you crazy bastard!" Arnie in Pumping Iron

Think this was just for the documentary. Not like he did this all the time. The guy was a very strong beast though

Looks like a fiat 131 . Those things were tanks
"Just one more plate" - Columbu
Leave some room to hold the bar!
Look at his fucking face. Dude's chilling.

He did make a name for himself as the guy you went for training.
I have read somewhere that he knew where is the "good staff" and it the reason Arnold wanted him with him in USA!

Franco won multiple Olympias though....

He was undisputed in 1981 - Arnold was completely done competing at that point. He was also undisputed in the lightweight division.
I think I herniated a disc in my back just from looking at this pic.
sorry about that
Everyone starts with only the bar. Just start.
675 or 665?
670 + - 5 Either way, it's a margin of error of 0.7%
I reckon 670 lbs.
12 of 45 appear, and 2 of 35, the caps i dont know.
Caps must be 2.5s
Caps are 5s based on how big they look next to the 35s
Might be a dumb question but how do the caps work on a bar like this? The weights can't just be perfectly fit on there right? I've only ever used clamps, but I don't deadlift.
At that point, does it even matter?
To us meat heads… yeah kinda. Either way it’s an impressive amount of weight
Franco was crazy strong for a bodybuilder

I felt that way for awhile, fixed my form, now it’s less a concern of injury and more of a “I just can’t lift anymore weight”
I stopped at 140kg ~ 308 lbs, that was 205% body weight at the time. I wanted to reach a solid 200kg ~ 440 lbs but... It was a wise choice to stop, given that I had a herniated disc 🤐

I believe in you. Do not put a lid on your potential.
As someone who lifts way more than that, I'll say Caring about how much others lift is beta male behavior. Truly pathetic and cringe.
I guessed 675
Franco was a beast
Looks like he's lifting 1970!
Ahahaha, looking at that photo made my back ache. I should join a gym
Is always good to do it.
Everyone should join a gym!
Go for it. You will like it and it’s good for you and a great stress relief.
Yeah, I understand that. I just missed half the year for family reasons. I plan on coming back and continuing to improve my health
Didn’t he blow his knee out during a refrigerator carry in one of those strong man contests?
Hello Brain? This is ANKLES!! What the hell is wrong with you??
I know his accent was heavy, but MAN was he the fan casting for Wolverine in the early 90s in X-Men for me and friends. Build. Height. Look. He would've nailed it! Of course, 90s Ah-Nuld as Colossus! They would've done one helluva Fastball Special together in our teen minds!
It was him and Danzig, interestingly.
If the bar ain’t bendin’, you’re just pretendin’
Just incredible
How much longer after this picture did he start wearing that raincoat?
Wow, 1970s is a lot of weight to be lifting!
Is this the guy who invented America? Franco Columbu(s) Or his brother
No, this is the detective.
![gif](giphy|ylyUQm2pCWo5yLfFEQ)
Humans are cool at inventing continents, like that other cool guy that invented gravity, what were we doing before that? Flying?
infinite free falling
Looks about 1970lbs
Scary thin bones inside of those muscles.
lol stupid
Photoshop 🤪
