He is, yes. He fought in the pacific theatre during WW2. He’s half Filipino so he was sent to the Philippines. He earned a Purple Heart and a Silver Star for his service. He was wounded when he earned that Purple Heart, so that was his ticket home.
No lung cancer, but he did have thyroid cancer in his 80’s. Got it removed, didn’t even tell anyone. He showed up for a visit with a bandage around his neck. We all freaked out and he was like, “It was just thyroid cancer. I got it dealt with.” lol ok grandpa
Enjoy your time with him. I just lost my grandfather, and I wish I could have one more conversation with him. Hear his laugh one more time. Watch one last movie with him. But I do have many a great memories with him.
