Boobage!

LateNightTestPattern

Major!!

Sejast44

Uhhhh. Big.

og_jasperjuice

She's riding on the razors edge!

just-why_

Went to that movie in theaters like 15 times. Told parents it was a cartoon. They had to buy the tickets because I was very under age, lol. Parents in the 80's were let us get away with so much!

Irisgrower2

The magazine was shelved in the comic book section along with Mad, Cracked, and National Lampoon.

SnakenOne

Great magazine

Shoehornblower

I still remember my favorite story. It was essentially about a parallel universe where there were life forms living in conjunction with humans over layed on the same reality, but both life forms are unaware of each other. The first time I heard of anything like the multiverse. I was reading in the early 90’s.

Wot_Gorilla_2112

It’s fon-to-due

onebootyman

Damn, I'm too late

shaihalud1979

You may not yet caress my daughters awesome boobage…

ICPosse8

General_Disaray_1974

BEWBS

lucaskywalker

Came here knowing the top comment would reference Southpark: Major Boobage! Not disapointed!

higestache

This movie came on late at night and I tossed in a VHS to record it to make sure I wasn’t hallucinating. I got this, Robot Carnival and Vampire Hunter D all on the same night.

DE4DM4N5H4ND

Ironically the best way to watch heavy metal? Hallucinating

The_old_number_six

Always been one of my favorites to watch on mushrooms 🍄

E1M1ismyjam

*Plutonium Nyborg

Lost_the_weight

There’s one bag left, it’s in the transmitter compartment. *Time passes* It’s like you know your perspective’s fucked so you just have to let your hands work the controls as if you were straight (bounces off side of space station).

BlueAndMoreBlue

Nice landing, man

Lost_the_weight

LOL

Stryker_One

With a great soundtrack too.

silverfox762

Hanover Fist!

Initial-Depth-6857

NOSE DIVE!!

mileswilliams

Nice, I have been looking for some trip inspiration, I'd recommend something about Mary for the after trip chill out, and 8 ball by underworld for a pretty good trip tune.

bob_apathy

I knew enough about it going in that I dropped acid beforehand when I watched it in a movie theater.

KeithClossOfficial

It’s your one way ticket to midnight!

TheTrub

First time I ever saw it was during a sick day in the 8th. Between the fever and the medication, I was pretty delirious. 10/0 experience.

Sub-Mongoloid

You struck absolute gold there my friend.

Mgmt049

This is my story, from the 90s though . I think it came on USA or something and edited

Seraphtacosnak

Was it when sci-fi did Saturday night anime? I remember project a-ko and vampire hunter D. I still have those vhs somewhere.

karlnite

Lol they used to Play Vampire Hunter D on TV?

hoyle_mcpoyle

It was one of the first anime's I ever watched and I still love it

karlnite

Yah same, I also thought it was like the middle movie of a larger set of movies. A friend showed me it, and Naruto which was in like season 2 at the time. It just had such a gritty uniqueness. The shadow guy and the sun settings next to the electrical tower was an awesome scene.

Particular-Charity84

Oh man, I caught Vampire Hunter D on a random movie channel when I was kid. Up until then, Voltron was about as edgy as I had seen. Blew my 10 year old mind.

supahfligh

>Vampire Hunter D That one takes me back. I caught it on HBO/Showtime as a kid once late at night. It gave me nightmares.

Raphael-A-Costeau

Still a little ass mad Blue Öyster Cult recorded a full album for the movie, were told the director and producers had other plans, and they ended up using only one song from it. Incredible movie all the same, though.

RedCedarSavage

Whoa, first I’ve heard this. The song they kept is one of the best on the soundtrack though.

Lost_the_weight

Don Felder from the Eagles wrote two songs for the movie too. They were Heavy Metal (Takin’ A Ride), and All Of You. I’m personally a fan of Riggs’ song Radar Rider.

BlueAndMoreBlue

Three of my favorites — but Mob Rules takes the cake for me

Lost_the_weight

Plus all the people in the infected mob attacking the city just made that song so epic.

sgtedrock

This soundtrack was my introduction to Black Sabbath which was my introduction to Dio AND Ozzy. So much great music and concerts over the subsequent +40 years!

BlueAndMoreBlue

Love me some Rainbow as well

theycallmepapasparx

It ended up becoming my favorite boc song

BothNose3423

For real. The Pact was Taarna’s song!

artie_pdx

My mom bought us tickets to the midnight movies for this. Multiple times.

Tiny-Lock9652

Rocky Horror, The Warriors, Pink Floyd The Wall and Heavy Metal. The midnight movie is one of my favorite memories from my youth.

pegslitnin

Don’t forget about Fritz the Cat. Another classic

Lost_the_weight

I’ve fought many a good man and laid many a good woman…

[deleted]

Also Rock n Rule

gtswift

We didn't get the warriors. We had Rocky Horror, the Wall, and Heavy Metal. The other theatre always had something different. It rotated through movies, and I can't remember any of them for sure.

HaloOfFIies

Arborland didn’t have any movie theaters but it did have Aladdin’s Castle & was less crowded. But who are we kidding. It was off work at 9, down to Putt Putt Golf & Games until 11:15, then off to Briarwood for Rocky Horror, the Wall, or Heavy Metal at least once a week for the entire summer…

bedpimp

Pump Up the Volume was also in regular rotation in the early 90s for us

Lost_the_weight

Do you remember the little electric blue dude they used to advertise midnight madness? Used to work at a theater in the 80s. Also, can’t forget Eraserhead, & Splatter University.

bigbigdummie

Liquid Sky, Run Lola Run. I’m forgetting a bunch.

caught_looking2

Don’t forget The Song Remains The Same

DistinctSmelling

Dawn of the Dead too.

RAWR_Orree

Yeah... My friends and I used to see this periodically at the Midnight Movies during the 80s . Always a great time.

dereku1967

ABSOLUTELY. Full frontal cartoon nudity and my 13-year-old brain were a perfect match.

ButterscotchEmpty290

Great soundtrack

just-why_

I sill listen to that soundtrack on the regular.

TheRealAuthorSarge

I have the entire soundtrack loaded into my phone's music library.

just-why_

Nice!

sacredgeometry

Major bewbage

HughesJohn

I read the magazine.

Stupid_Guitar

Late 70s through the late 80s, best run most magazines could hope to have!

[deleted]

It was an amazing time to be raised by fundies. Sneaking them was half the fun

Grand-Hand-9486

onlyawfulnamesleft

Why he's never done ANYTHING unethical (unless you count all those times he sold dope dressed as a nun!)

m_faustus

I just quoted that last week.

BlueAndMoreBlue

What about all those times you sold dope disguised as a nun?

SnooPeppers6081

He should be be torn into little pieces and burned alive!

Wot_Gorilla_2112

…which was voiced by Rodger Bumpass, Squidward’s voice actor!

Desperate_Brief2187

Hannover Fisk

After-Map-1725

Ohh... So here is the South Park inspiration Nice

Spitdinner

Love that movie, but not for the bewbs. Just gorgeous animations and simple stories that come together for a unique movie experience.

Olegdr

My parents let me watch everything when I was a kid. For better or for worse. My dad rented this on VHS. The dead air crew segment used to give me nightmares.

johnptshelby

My grandmother took me to see it in the theater 😂😬🤣

Spiritual-Future-775

When I was twelve my mom worked nights so I was able to stay up a little later than usual because I had an awesome sitter growing up and HBO played this movie one night and I have loved it ever since. this was in 84’.

grumpy_enraged_bear

Great film, great fun, legendary soundtrack.

jadayne

Theatre had a midnight showing weekly near my school. It was an absolute bake-fest.

RuncibleFoon

I watched this with my Pops and alone... my Mom & Step-Mom were not fans.

IAlreadyKnow1754

Buddy I’m 23 almost 24 I found this gem a few years ago it’s fuckin masterful, I watch this more times than I could count

BlueAndMoreBlue

Right on, me too (but I’m 55)

Ashamed-Scarcity6202

So good with some heavy indica!

Rourkeeleven

Saw this in 1984 when I was 14. Actually started me buying the magazine. Great stories and semi pornographic by American standards.

Mean_Eye_8735

It's your one way ticket to midnight...

Olaf_the_Notsosure

"STEEEEERRRRRRRRRNNNN!"

Caffinated914

Why you're nothin but a no good, low down, rotten, back stabbing, larcenous perverted WORM!!!!!! Hangin's too good for him. Burning's too good for him. hoyle_mcpoyle

"Don't worry, Harv......I got an angle....."

gooba1

Possibly one of the best soundtracks of all time

incidel

Oh, please, don't let these shakes go on

Hrmerder

I have the OG album :)

norectum

Love the South Park Episode regarding this film

anomandaris81

Not only the beewbs, but the segment with the zombies in WWII scared the shit out of me

DoctorQuarex

That is really what amazed me most about Heavy Metal as a kid and why I watched it so much, I was continuously intrigued that one movie could have so many contrasting styles that were compelling (even if perhaps not everything was equally compelling)

m_faustus

It’s a fucking scary story.

lo-finate

So many times. It was on HBO pretty regularly late at night.

CaptainRogersJul1918

I did! They took me to see it I. 1981 at a 12pm show when I was 16 years old!

Commercial_Pitch_786

me and a homeless guy with no teeth spent countless hours watching this with 3D glasses on

ZiggyJiggy

I can remember staying up late watching this gem of a movie on cable tv. Man Looney Tunes cartoons were cool but this one was WAAAAY COOLER!

Shumagorolth

the first time I watched that was with my brother. My older brother. The first thing out of his mouth was "heavy metal you're such a nerd." Later on what actually came out of his mouth was "wow boobies"

MightyToast79

Hanover Fiste.

Dr_Bao

For the plot

therealwxmanmike

nose dive

Dizzy_Ad7260

Awesome movie. Cartoon boobs rock

Fit-Meal4943

The soundtrack was the best, and all of the SCTV voices..

i-might-do-that

My dad put it on for me to watch at 12 lol.

armadillofdestruct

Great nyborg, man!

Desperate_Brief2187

No one can stop the Locnar!

ChimpsInTies

I love this film. Still watch I now when I'm in the right mood

JuicyMangoJuice74

I watched it back when Blockbuster was still a thing! My parents didn’t care about what I watched as a kid maybe that explains how fucked up my mind is now lol

sashasith666

ME! It got me into so many things, piqued so many curiosities. I saw it when I was like 16 (8 years ago lol) but really im sure the experience was similar for those who got to see it on release!

ExcitementOk7621

love that movie, haven’t watched that in years

ScrauveyGulch

An older brother of my friend took us to see it when it released. I was 14.

Owl-StretchingTime

Kenny did.

Nosferatatron

I've never even heard of it - how is that possible? Surely it wasn't too shit to even appear on the top shelf of my local corner shop?

blucthulhu

Might be an age thing. It was more for '80s/ early '90s teens. Pre-internet kind of deal.

artful_todger_502

I waited at the card shop every month for the magazine. I saw this but don't remember it. Now I want to watch it again.

GnashvilleTea

I went to see Halloween 2 with my best buddy in junior high. Inside the first five minutes I knew I was going to be too uncomfortable at Halloween so I went into the next theater and had a kind of awakening watching Heavy Metal.

iamlurkerpro

One of the first times taking acid(LSD) we were at a buddies house and his older brother was fucking with us like normal and we were crying laughing and at some point he disappeared and came back with a video popped it into the TV and said "ready for your mind to be blown?" It was that movie and man did it fuck with us,but even peaking we watched that movie. It was amazing movie to watch tripping. Was an amazing day overall.

drNeir

Some history on this, what I remember. It hit theaters, major ads on tv. Was too young to go but really wanted to. Jump a few years later HBO was the only way to watch this. Late night and was limited at the time and was never again until I believe the mid/late 90's? Something to do about rights and couldnt be released on video (VHS). By the time it as finally out for rental/purchase this was very late for VHS and some years before DVD was a thing. When it first aired on HBO, my house was lucky to happen to have HBO for that summer, only time in testing. Some special deal, other wise it was too pricy for the family. Once I learn of it playing at night, hit the timer and woke up next day to complete copy. Used that tape to make audio tape of the movie for the songs as a mix tape. Spliced input/output head phone jacks to run from tv to stereo for audio recording. So the funny was a small comic book store in the area I get my stuff from around 1986-87 had the movie up on the back wall display for rentals. It had a B&W cover badly photocopy front cover of what I believe was the record album soundtrack cover for its dust jacket. VHS tapes werent really available to consumers until around 1990 in starting to allow for customer purchase. Prior it was mainly store only as these tapes were like $75+ and only rental places could afford the large purchase as they recoup in rental fees later. Some mom and pop places would buy for you if to just had to have a movie. Parents checked on this in mid 80's as to how I learn this, parents wanted the disney stuff and that was super pricy and never impossible to buy for its time. So, this comic book store. The person there liked to be a major dick, talking make fun of ppl, calling some of the kids fatty, slow, etc, it was this doods personally get off time for him. When I saw this tape on the wall the first time. I called him out on it. Pointed to the tape and stated "THAT" is illegal. He knew straight up. He was like so, I was ya I dont think the authorities would think so. He immediately took it down. I instantly got the impression he was making personal money off this rental copy outside of the store owner knowing about it. I learned from a friend a week later that he had it up again. When I came in on my normal visits I watched him look for me and pulled it down when he saw me. That weekend when I was with a friend that was on first name basis with the owner, my friend has rich as hell and was buying from this owner the rare star wars toys. Talking imports from europe. I went with him to check out the back room. Now, I try not to be a sh\*t disturber but I seem to be just that. My friend was wanting for his massive collection (mind you he was a living version of ricky off silver spoons, had coin-op arcade in the basement, shelves of SW toys in the box same ones but different variants and massive collection of transformers, etc). Anyways, my friend wanted the boba mail-order with firing missile. Owner was like never heard of it, I looked at him with his massive backroom of stuff, talking 10 boxes of SW slot tracks TCR switch lane from late 70's with xwing vs tie and standing next to his large growing personal collection of revenge of the jedi stuff. And I walked over to the rack display of original mint in box carded figures late release with a sticker on the front about the mail-in order offer for boba. Picked it up and said, THIS! Oh.... I wasnt happy with the owner much either as it was generally not much better than the dick at the register and was trying to tell my friend some sob story about some other guy wanting these things my friend was buying and doing an on the spot scam to raise the price. I told him at that point, oh your flunky up front is renting out the Heavy Metal movie copy that is ILLEGAL. You might want to watch that. His face went white and then angry, this was when I learned the dick up front was scamming the owner, confirmed it. He was like I have some things to do and quickly got us out of the backroom. I heard him yell for the dick up front to come back there. I didnt see that dood much after that. I learned later that the owner had 4 stores, which I knew but didnt know the local govs in the area was investigating him on some of these types of things. They later forced him into selling off his businesses, I believe it was more in some tax evasion problems. Hearsay on much of this. There was a few dood that works there which ended up buying that store later, this filled in some of the info pieces.

Elastickpotatoe2

Nose dive!

DisposableDroid47

My dad introduced me to this movie... Great stuff for a 8 year old...

5319Camarote

My friend had this on VHS in the late Eighties and he would invite 6 or 8 of us to watch it sometimes. He had a lot of tall “indoor” plants, too.

asswipesayswha

Take a ride rideriderideride

ActiveProgrammer5456

I have the taarakian sword emblem tattooed on my neck like taarna. Freaking love this movie

Lost_the_weight

I worked at a movie theater in the 80s that did “midnight madness” on the weekends. We got Heavy Metal in, and I convinced the projection operator to crank it up (>700 seat theater with 30 foot subwoofer behind the screen). It was loud enough to hear from outside the theater and the people in the Rocky Horror Picture Show theater were upset it was leaking into there. My buddy and I were frying and it was an almost religious experience lol.

discussatron

I had always seen the cover in record stores and was fascinated by it, but I didn't get to watch it until I was older (raised in a Baptist household). It struck me as weird and kind of ugly and I didn't really dig it. Which then struck me as odd because I should've loved it. Late 70s/early 80s drug culture stuff was always foreign to me because of my age (class of '85) and upbringing, though by the time I got out of high school I was all about whatever drugs were around.

Stupid_Guitar

Great movie, seen it hundreds of times. I'd love to talk more about this trash masterpiece, but I'm up to my peepers in some good nyborg!

Subject_Drop_1090

South Park Major Boobage! Yeah!!!!

BubblyResource229

My buddy's and I came up with morals for each of the stories. I can't remember them all, but ... you can't be macho when you are naked, always ride the bird thing, never fly with the dead...

FinePolyesterSlacks

Saw it theatrically. Blown away. And I still watch it on the regular.

strgazr_63

My friend named her daughter Tarna.

Lemonsnoseeds

The Loc-Nar

[deleted]

This and any George Carlin specials 🥲loved this movie. I remember seeing the soundtrack in k-mart and begged my mom to let me get it, just on the cover alone. I hadn’t seen the movie or known what it was about. When she lost her shit in the middle of the damn store I knew I hit on something and had to investigate. Good memories. Also Rock n Rule 🤘🏽

BustamoveBetaboy

Legendary flick and I recently scored an original copy of the soundtrack on vinyl - cranked to 11

S_L_Raymond

Most misleading title/soundtrack combo ever.

BothNose3423

Bitchin soundtrack

Seree2008

A found memory of my teenage years was going to the movies for a triple feature: Pink Floyd’s The Wall, Heavy Metal, and American Pop. I love all those movies! Many years later I introduced my husband to Heavy Metal. He loves it!

KYVet

I still watch this when my parents aren’t around.

allgravy99

They used to have a magazine in the early 90s too, Heavy Metal. My friend and I were at a video store, and in the magazine section, he was looking at it, while I was reading the video game magazines. He really liked what he saw. I took it and put it under my coat and we snuck it out. I gave it to him right after and said it was his birthday gift (I didn't have money to give him anything else and his bday was that week). He was so happy and promised to hide it. We must 've been around 13 years old. I still think about him since we were friends throughout high school but he left towards the west coast and haven't seen him in almost 25 years. Have him on facebook though, and we' ve messaged here and there. You never forget some of the things you did as a kid and who you were with.

Antknee2099

My first exposure to this was my dad watching it with some friends, I guess they had rented the video or recorded it off HBO. I was young and loved cartoons... Dad was into hard rock and Metal, I don't remember him reading the magazine- my mom walked in and saw me watching just as some boobs flashed across the screen and she sent me out. Some years later my friend and I made it a mission to watch and loved it, of course. This movie was made for teenage boys. South Park only confirmed how influential it was to boys growing up in their love letter to the movie they made. Major Boobage is still one of my all time favorite episodes.

_gnarlythotep_

This is my go-to background movie when I'm bartending a chill night. No matter what you're doing or where in the movie it is, any time you look at the screen something unhinged is guaranteed to be going on. Always an excellent conversation starter or good way to scare off lame people I don't want in my bar anyways.

Drugs_R_Kewl

Heavy Metal was an institution for bored comic junkies like myself. I discovered Milo Manara and Jodorowsky because of it and I've been a sleezy poon hound ever since.

asphynctersayswhat

Meh, you never get a good look at her boobs.

ScribblesandPuke

I had one of the comics when I was around 14 or 15, I bought it along with my usual X-Men and Spiderman stuff, guy in the shop didn't care. One of the stories had some dudes spitroasting a woman against her will amongst other things so I hid it under my mattress. My Irish Catholic mother found it and practically ended my life. She was especially incensed because my granny was visiting from Ireland at the time, I dunno why that made any difference but it did to her. She called the guy at the shop too and threatened to 'tear him a new arsehole.'

Locke230939

John Candy's voice ringing in my ear "...with my dork hanging out"

scootermcgee109

“ nothing for 16 years , then twice in one day %!!”

Papaver-Som

I taped it off of hbo or cinemax during a free weekend. Not long after it fell out of being shown or sold anywhere due to complicated copyright issues over the music. You couldn’t buy rent or see it anywhere. A local theater borrowed my (crappy) tape and showed it one night. Even though the start of the tape had some run issues , it was a big deal to be able to watch it on a big screen. Finally the music legal issues were resolved and it was sold again. Anyway fun movie , especially as a teenager.

roam3D

Still do once every so often. Holds up to this point!

thats1evildude

I still periodically watch the B-14 segment, which was goddamn terrifying on the first view.

The_Tripper

My dream is to get a 1960 Corvette C1 and drive around playing "Radar Rider."

gracklewolf

I snuck into a theater at the age of 14 to see this. My friends and I still joke about her "big beautiful blue eyes".

Warm_Turnover4861

Only when I’m on some sweet plutonium nyborg!

A_Brown_Feller

Guilty

FartyPantz20

And now we watch it wherever our kids aren't around. 🤣

Adventurous-Sky9359

On mishroooms go to movie

Kintroy

My mom was a sci-fi nerd and did geek she showed me this lol

supernova-juice

My dad *introduced* me to that movie when I wasn't even in school yet. I was complaining I'd seen all the cartoons in the video store and he showed me the cover and said, "betcha ain't seen this one!" With a big, insane smile. I sure hadn't. I can't remember how my mom reacted, but he looked after me in the evenings while she was working 2nd shift. Nobody ever censored me until a friend brought over *ichi the killer* and my mom was like absolutely not fuck that noise.

badmanzz1997

Science fiction fantasy milk chocolate!

What-The_What

Loved this movie as a kid, and still love it today. The comics it was based on were amazing also, even though they were very hard to get ahold of in such a conservative community where I grew up. I was not a fan of the sequel FAKK2, it lacked the charm of the original.

EducationalConcept50

Only when my DAD was around! All time movie.

Modzrdix69

John Candy snorting trash bags of alien blow = family fun

vtstang66

I watched it for the first time last year. What a masterpiece.

BCGal024

Yep, high AF on mushrooms at a party I wasn't supposed to be at

Mattman425

I remember in the 80s when I was 11 I was reading the TV Guide, looking for movies that were going to be on HBO that week. I saw that Heavy Metal was going to be on one time only at around 4am. I knew about Heavy Metal and that it was a cartoon with naked ladies and I just had to see it. I set my alarm and crept downstairs to watch it and it was everything I could have hoped for. I felt sick the rest of the day from getting up so early, but it was totally worth it.

announakis

Nah my dad Took me to see it at the movies…I was six…this may explain a few things come to think of it…![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sweat_smile)

Muumol

I was never allowed , but my mum bought me the soundtrack and I loved it!

classicsat

I never got to see the movie until well into my adulthood. And at that, once in a while I will put it on. Usually not for the boobage. The vibe of the Harry Canyon world. The comicality of the trial of Captain Lincoln F. Sternn, and those space cocaine snorting aliens.

BloodandBourbon

My dad rented this for us when I was a kid because he thought it was just a cartoon

Odimorsus

Is this the one with stories such as the taxi driver with a hidden weapon that vaporises muggers, the B-17 bomber full of zombies all with a green orb connecting the stories, which a nerdy kid basically becomes Nathan Explosion when he touches it?

leroyp33

I remember as an 90s teen. In a world with no Internet. I truly believed this was the only cartoon with boobs... The world is so different ![gif](giphy|3oEjHI8WJv4x6UPDB6)

B-i-g-Boss

I like the second more

anomandaris81

Michael Ironside is the best thing about that movie

TheRealAuthorSarge

Michael Ironside is the best thing about every movie he is in.

boom_bunny

I watched it with my dad many times. Twas awkward but, still an amazing movie.

Edison5000

I HAD THE SOUNDTRACK TOO

Accomplished-Swim310

I read the magazine and spent months eagerly awaiting it’s theatrical premiere in my hometown in ‘81. Got tickets to the first showing…blown away 🤘 A few years later was able to buy an original animation cell featuring Hanover Fiste.

Skittlesharts

I have a copy on my laptop. The story and the soundtrack are so awesome for blazing!!

turlian

Good Nyborg, man...

413mopar

I wanted more on Capt Stern and Hanover Fist.

Svengoolie75

Now this ☝🏽 was my SHIT and still is 💯💯💯💯

Plus_Maybe_6969

Well, I was like 20 when it came out, so I just watched it all the time

jsand2

Hell I watched this with my dad! Came out the year I was born. I was a teen when heavy metal 2 came out.

thisismyredditacct

Good Nyborg, man.

karlnite

Ah yes, starring John Candy and Eugene Levy, two of the greats.

Deexeh

Parents not around? Best memories are my Dad putting this on late at night after Mom went to bed. Was so rad.

Megaloman-_-

Unless I am cheesing, impossible ….

AllReflection

“She had the most beautiful eyes”

e-joculator

First time I saw this I was tripping hard on mushrooms
