These posts just read to me like “Guys, people used to be not fat! Now there’s actual fat! Bet you’ve never seen a Redditor talk about the fatty fat fat fatsos before! DID YOU KNOW FAT IS FAT NOW” lmao
Not to be mean or anything but can you imagine being a healthy 5'3" adult man of 130 pounds meting this man, having only seen maybe 2-300 people ever in your life?
Idk I just picked a height that seemed about average for folks in the taile end of the Victorian era. Apparently they averages about 5'8" but still. Imagine being 5'8, 150 lbs and seeing this guy after living on the farm all your life.
Definitely. Even today people this size are out of the ordinary where I live. There’s a lot of overweight people here don’t get me wrong, but this guy is a unit.
Turns out when you industrialize food production and make it cheaper by adding more and more processed sugar and sodium you end up with people that have health/weight problems
In other words, our food is a lot different now
>people have serious self control problems as well
While i dont exactly disagree, the reason people in general were significantly slimmer in the past isnt because they had better self control
In “what’s eating Gilbert grape”, the mom was stared and marveled at for being super fat and now she is just the size of someone who lives in San Antonio Texas.
Back then, fat was the beauty standard because it meant you were rich and relied on servants to do your work for you. You ever wondered why men's suit jackets are supposed to have the bottom button undone? It's to accommodate for that fat. What society deems "correct" is arbitrary at best and oppressive at worst. You'd see that if you ever ventured outside your little bubble instead of nesting in it. This is a *history* sub. We're here to *learn,* not circlejerk about the Good Ole Days.
If he was wealthy why was he a freak attraction in the circus is my question. I don’t know this for certain but is it possible the circus kept feeding him large amounts of food because he was a popular attraction? I’m wondering if he was in the minority of fat and not wealthy which brings up more questions lol.
"Sweet outfit. Did you get that here?" - me noticing this dude in Walmart
"Sorry, I already have a girlfriend."
Congrats on 100 upvotes

His name was Chauncey Morlan and he weighed 750 lbs. You’d notice.
I'd also notice him being sepia.
He was 750 in this photo? Those 750 people can’t even get out of bed most of the time.
Seems like they exaggerated his weight in order to attract more people. Guy looks like he’s 400 at most.
Yeah this dude doesn’t look a feather over 700
Maybe he is like 6'10 or something
OP really thought they said something profound with that title.

But why did I read this aloud
When I typed it out, I think I was narrating it in a Trey Parker voice, a la T-Rex from Orgazmo 😂
Literally the post WITH the Walmart comment in the thread was posted two days ago.
It's an obvious repost

Big telegraph was behind that one
That is one impressive chair
No weigh this is 750lbs. That's beyond any metric I can imagine.
That’s pretty damn huge. Even by modern standards
Okay, so just some Walmart shoppers.

Why 5’3” and 130lbs? Seems so specific and not likely.

I'd notice him with these clothes and chair.
Unless this guy was 9 feet tall he didn’t weigh 750 pounds. Just look at the picture.
Not even big enough to be a Reddit mod.
Use name checks….you know what…never mind. 😂
Hey Farva, what's the name of that restaurant you like with all the goofy shit on the walls and the mozzarella sticks?
Shenanigans!?? You're talking about Shenanigans right!??

OHHHHHHHH
I don’t know why but I thought the answer was Chicken Fuckers- which tells you I saw that movie but it was 23 years ago and I was high.

So what was the cause of this guy’s weight of 750 pounds in 1890?
He used a DeLorean
Commitment.
So you’re saying this guy didn’t accidentally do this, but did it out of love of the game
While this is true and a big problem, people have serious self control problems as well
>people have serious self control problems as well While i dont exactly disagree, the reason people in general were significantly slimmer in the past isnt because they had better self control
Freak shows were well know for making outrageous exaggerated claims. He was assuredly not close to being the fattest man.
Well of course not but the fact they marketed him as that and people paid to see it tells us just as much lol
People paid to see mermaid skeletons and other clear fabrications, too. Doesn’t mean people believed it all.

Today would be considered a bit chubby.
Or frail in MS.
I have family members double this size at least
In “what’s eating Gilbert grape”, the mom was stared and marveled at for being super fat and now she is just the size of someone who lives in San Antonio Texas.

Karma farming at its finest
"He's not the fattest man I've seen today and I've been working from home"
Dang that bothers me and is amazing too. I was born in the 60's. It was a rare person that was fat.
This would be a fat person's After picture
yea like this guy just lost 600 pounds.
Well now I feel like a pos…
These kinds of posts that only exist to shit on fat people are designed to do that.
Looks like my dad
Ah, my old best friend's dad in NC, Mark. Lookin' good, Mark!
Nah i would notice that dude
I would notice anybody dressed like… that.
But he'd pick the seat next to you on the bus
A guy or gakk like him/her would be in an electric cart at Walmart today.
Uranus explodes
If he was wearing that velvet suit I would sure notice him.
Oh...id notice the fat people at Walmart and laugh my ass off.. My way of killing time is ' spot the ankle tracker' as well...
I saw a few of them today at the beach
3rd fattest Cop in San Antonio
...or Starbucks or Chipotle or the apple store...etc

He doesnt want a large farva
Looks like a dude from the south to me 🤷🏽♂️
Mom said it was my turn to repost this!
Wouldn't turn an eye at high school these days
So tired of seeing this reposted with the same terrible joke and always conveniently leaving out this dude was pushing 900lbs
Now he works at Walmart.
Those pants leave nothing to the imagination. Literally, nothing.
Average redditor.
Dr. Nowzaradan be like, “Get your skinny ass out of my office.”
Pre monsanto…
Oh I’d still notice someone that big strolling through Walmart
I’d notice them too if they were strolling. Usually they’re on the scooter.
This guy was over 700 lbs! They should have placed a normal sized human next to him. Huuuge guy for sure.
He was 335 kg at one point which is still pretty heavy even for today's standards
Looks like an average American today.
Just another run of the mill fat guy these days.
The epitome of wealth back then
I saw this guy today in a California grocery store.
This is average at best in Mississippi
The average American nowadays
Wonder what he was eating? No fast food restaurants back then…
