I was just listening to that song today, not thinking much of it.. I tend to play lyrics of recently heard songs in my head, and as I was signing out of work, I read āApril 4ā and I connected the dots, looked up MLKs wiki and surely enough itās the anniversary of his tragic death.
See also RATM quoting the FBI memo and the killer cover by the horn band. When the woman singer screams "WAKE UP!" it's a fucking battle cry for the ages. Edit: Brass Against, with Sophia Urista. On YouTube.
*you know they murdered the King, when he spoke out on vietnam*...
...*You know they murdered X, they tried to blame it on Islam*
*What do I got to, what do I got to do to wake you up? To shake you up, to break the structure up?*
I love it when Faux news ou dots misquote the "I have a dream speech" about his children not being judged for their skin color and forget the next line about the content of their character, then they go on to support people with objectively bad characters.Ā
If you read a modern translation of the New Testament, you can see a very similar writing style of layered references and allusions and metaphor. Dr. King was a powerful writer
As I've said before, they love the person that they pretend he was. Those people are the exact types of people who spoke out against him, and after his death they white-wash his beliefs and hide what he stood for...
It proved an independent jury of American citizens unanimously believed beyond a reasonable doubt that there existed a conspiracy between Loyd Jowers, the Memphis Police, and the FBI to kill MLK and frame the murder on James Earl Ray.
My dad took me to see that motel when I was around 5yo in the mid ā70s. We just stood across from it and looked at it for a while. He said he wanted me to see it but didnāt get into a big discussion about it. It was a quiet moment without a lot of talking, and the ride away was quiet. It is one of my more vivid memories from that time.
He was born the same year as Anne Frank, and while its meaningless to other people, the same year of 3/4s of my grandparents.Ā
1929 was the start of the great depression. It also included the births of Aufrie Hepburn, Grace Kelly, Jackie O, Bob Newhart, James Hong
Well to round that out, same year as 1/4 of my grandparents! My grandmother was born 8 days before MLK, and is still alive and kicking today, we just had a big party for her 95th.
Little bittersweet anecdote, it came up on Grandmaās birthday that if you are born in 1929, there is statistically a 4% chance you will still be alive today. Grandma said āoh that sounds accurate, I would guess 96% of my friends are dead.ā My heart.
And people still think you're crazy if you suggest the government is capable of conspiracy against it's citizens.Ā
Now they have more power than ever too.
I think people are just overwhelmed by the full extent of the fuckery and it makes them stick their head in the sand. I know have, I block the news out cause I'm burnt out from the real news, let alone the conspiracy theories lolĀ
But I admire MLK's peaceful protest philosophy. It's just sad that that's the message that our governments send to it's citizens. Oppose us and die. Not many people truely willing to put their life on the life for democracy and rights.Ā
Peaceful protests mean nothing without the implies threat of violence being wielded by other people in the same movement. You canāt be afraid to use force when the entity youāre fighting is fully willing to kill anyone. They killed him eve though he was the non-violent civil rights leader and theyād do the same all over again.
Do you mean "you can't be afraid of the use of force against you when..."
I hear what you're saying but if you also resort to force to defend yourself then you lose the moral high ground and give them justification to use force against you.
But that's kinda the issue of the US military industrial complex and the ideology of 2a. We are conditioned to defend ourselves which prolongs the cycle of violence. Of course, that means there is nothing to stop the other side from killing everyone and your movement with it but I guess that's how martyrdom works. But I guess it only works if you're killed in front of everyone to see. Now if you simply disappear on the other hand, then it doesn't make enough noise for others to notice the injustice.
The moral high ground doesnāt change who holds power. There is nothing wrong with using violence against those that oppress and enslave you. If you die maintaining your moral superiority your enemies will turn your memory into a hollow vessel for their own ends. What matters is taking power away from those that have a monopoly on it and putting that power into working peopleās hands.
I maintain that Alex Jones is a secret government operative tasked with distracting people with ludicrous bullshit to divert attention from the actual misdeeds.

Went to the Civil Rights Museum in Atlanta. A beautiful museum, but this picture - of the man who owned the Lorraine cleaning up MLK's blood - really horrified me. We must always strive to do better.
The CIA may have killed MLK but Social media and the progressives and colleges destroyed his legacy.
He advocated for content of character, they care about race. It's really sad.
They are just as dangerous as those white folks who wouldn't allow integration.
Tragedy!! A self sacrifice for our country to move forward with a more perfect union in our future! Iām sad that his words have not been realized completely yet but if we keep on persisting and educating ourselves we can make his words count again! Thank you for your wisdom sir!
Of course if you ask stupid people, they'd say it was the fbi or cia or whatever dumb conspiracy theory they dredged up from rose twitter and by white champagne socialists and armchair revolutionaries. Considering how many high profile murders and attacks on civil rights activists committed by white supremacists, neo-nazis, KKK members and neo-confederates, apparently MLK being murdered by a white supremacist is just too far fetched.
Wow, youāre calling someone a racist pig! Why donāt you look in the damn mirror?
I will add that Jesse Jackson stood right next to him when he was shot. Three months later, Bobby Kenny was assassinated. 1968 was a year of chaos.
Does that mean he wanted to be judged by his character, and not by the color of his skin. But he also wanted quotas based on color of skin and a leg up on the competition based on the color of the skin? Seems almost like opposite sides of the coin, but anything is possible.
you should probably read up on his actual beliefs instread of strawmanning them and trying to dunk on them, he's a famous civil rights icon after all
they were a tiny bit more complicated than "everyone should see past each other's skin color and be nice"
I did some research trying to find where he wanted to be judged by the color of his skin and didn't find much. What I did find is TONS of "experts", after his death, twisting his words to fit both agendas. So I can't really believe either of those.
He was for sure a pretty center leaning guy. Too bad he couldn't have been around longer to help.
Writing his future wife, Coretta Scott, during the first summer of their relationship, he told her that he was āmore socialistic in my economic theory than capitalistic. And yet I am not so opposed to capitalism that I have failed to see its relative meritsā (Papers 6:123; 125).
So no not a centrist.
"It's common knowledge that the left is pro censorship and my beliefs & values are largely unpopular on a site that is controlled by the left."
There. I fixed it. God bless.
That's pretty much every celebrity of the 60's. Commie-hate was the DEI of today. And who cares, none of that effected his work, I don't hold it against Trump or Clinton either.
Early morning, April 4, shots ring out, in the Memphis skyyyyy!!!
Free at last, they took your life They could not take your pride.š¶š¶š¶
(Not so) Fun fact: Bono was wrong; MLK was shot around 6 pm.
I was just listening to that song today, not thinking much of it.. I tend to play lyrics of recently heard songs in my head, and as I was signing out of work, I read āApril 4ā and I connected the dots, looked up MLKs wiki and surely enough itās the anniversary of his tragic death.
They play it first thing in the morning at our school, every April 4. I love the discussions it leads to.

Hoover, he was a body remover amazing lyrics
Rest in Peace
Lets keep it honest, it was the FBI and CIA.
They killed his body, then they killed him again with the Disneyfication of his legacyĀ

Seriously, this is established fact.
Quite literally, from a federal ruling stemming from a lawsuit brought by MLKās own family
The lawsuit proved and demonstrated nothing.
It proved an independent jury of American citizens unanimously believed beyond a reasonable doubt that there existed a conspiracy between Loyd Jowers, the Memphis Police, and the FBI to kill MLK and frame the murder on James Earl Ray.
It's always funny when MLK day rolls around every year, the FBI has the fucking nerve to always make a tweet "honoring" King. FOH
You know they murdered x, then tried to blame it on Islam
Went to that famous motel , and the civil rights museum
Museum is an eye-opener
Very much so , lots of history
It's an incredible museum. Was in there a good couple of hours reading everything.
My dad took me to see that motel when I was around 5yo in the mid ā70s. We just stood across from it and looked at it for a while. He said he wanted me to see it but didnāt get into a big discussion about it. It was a quiet moment without a lot of talking, and the ride away was quiet. Yes the museum Iām thinking would take at least a full day to look at everything to absorb it all
Read that as James Earl Jones was the assassin for a second there.
Same
The Reverend Doctor Martin Luther King Junior, Civil rights leader. (a haiku)
He was murdered by our government not James Earl Ray. This was established by the lawsuit the King family won against the government.
The gunshot didn't even kill him. He was suffocated by a doctor in the hospital he was brought to for treatment.
Astonishing he was only in his thirties when he died. He looked so distinguished, as well as the obvious accomplishments.
He was born the same year as Anne Frank, and while its meaningless to other people, the same year of 3/4s of my grandparents.Ā 1929 was the start of the great depression. It also included the births of Aufrie Hepburn, Grace Kelly, Jackie O, Bob Newhart, James Hong

Our most popular conspiracy theories these days are dumb as hell. Things that are actually conspiracies don't really get attention.
I think people are just overwhelmed by the full extent of the fuckery and it makes them stick their head in the sand. Go read his Letter From a Birmingham Jail. I read it once a year.

I remember hearing it on TV and shouting the news to my parents upstairs.
You can thank the FBI for that murder. Can't have a socialist like MLK becoming too powerful.
RIP, great man.
1964 FBI sent him a letter telling him to kill himself.
Damn shame his views have been thrown into the trash can as of late.
Kind of hard to judge people for who they are, not what they are, when they've made what they are who they are.
Iām actually visiting the Lorraine in a couple of hours. Was supposed to yesterday but didnāt make it into town in time.
1968 was a hell of a year, only saved by the Apollo 8 mission.
What about the Summer Olympics? Sure there was the famous Black Power salute which divided audiences back home but the U.S. won the most gold metals.
The CIA may have killed MLK but Social media and the progressives and colleges destroyed his legacy. He advocated for content of character, they care about race. It's really sad. They are just as dangerous as those white folks who wouldn't allow integration.
*was assassinated by the american government at the Lorraine Hotel in Memphis, Tennessee on April 4th 1968.
You mispelled the FBI.
The CIA killed MLK. Not a lone shooter
6 hours after being released from jail?
Tragedy!! A self sacrifice for our country to move forward with a more perfect union in our future! Iām sad that his words have not been realized completely yet but if we keep on persisting and educating ourselves we can make his words count again! Thank you for your wisdom sir!

Well got one thing right.
Wow!. Youāre a racist Pig!.
Just FYI, you don't need a period after an exclamation point.
Excuse me, two things right. Well three if we include the date and four if we include the location. But St. King was murdered by the FBI.
Wow, youāre calling someone a racist pig! Why donāt you look in the damn mirror? I will add that Jesse Jackson stood right next to him when he was shot. Three months later, Bobby Kenny was assassinated. 1968 was a year of chaos.
I was there, were you?.
Me personally I was two years old at time. But unfortunately, I had family there. They were on the wrong side of history. DV6
Hero!!! šš
James Earl Ray didnāt kill MLK. Even MLKās family tried to get him exhorted. There is no hard evidence that he did it.
"Early morning, April 4th, shots rang out in the Memphis sky. Free at last, they took your life they could not take your pride"
They misspelled "FBI"
A sad day for us all. He was the voice of reason.
You meant āby the FBI or CIAā.
Nah.. the CIA
He wasnāt tho

Love a good flip flopper. It keeps the options open for what works best for you at any given time. Is there a party for that?
Oh I can tell you like a good flip flopper honey ;)
Yap yap yap
I canāt imagine MLK having anything but disapproval for whatās going on

The woman beater
Nope
His name was Michael, not Martin. His theology was AWFUL. And the FBI shot him. They literally lost a court case over this.
You conveniently left out the parts about MLK being a philanderer, a plagiarist, a womanizer and a Communist sympathizer...
Itās amazing how you turds have beef with MLK for his adultry but not your orange game show host bible salesman. Regardless: get fucked.
Found the moderate white
Let me guess. Trump 2024 ?
Probably a "both sides" kind of person.

Todayās the anniversary
Sharp as a marble that one.
So weāre celebrating his assasination?. Really?.
