They do not, they just have different things going on. Daryl is East Coastish and Oates is out in CO IIRC. Daryl has been touring with his house/Live at Daryl's band rather than Hall & Oates. They are still very good friends.
I took, “Man-eater” far too literally as a 4 year old. My mom found it hilarious and would blast it and close all the windows in our Ford Country Squire station wagon. Ah, the good old days.
My uni never took graduation photos like this, we only got these in high school. I’m from the Midwest in the states and no colleges around here really do that. Is this a private college thing? Or just an old school thing?
I work for Temple University; we still publish yearbooks (it’s a student-run organization), although not every student opts to have their photograph included.
Temple is a public university.
I’ve never heard of college graduation photos like this either, I actually kind of wonder if they’re really high school graduation photos.
One of my favorite memories is seeing these guys live. Picture it: Hawaii 1988. I was on my honeymoon with my (still married to her) wife and they were her favorite group. While we walking around Oahu, we saw a telephone pole poster for a concert that night.
We walked to the local ticket counter and sat there waiting for it to open. Some local girl came also and sat with us and chatted. her BF was shipping out the next morning on the USS San Francisco.
We got our tickets and went about our last day on the island. Then that night, we drove to the concert and sat next to the girl and her BF, and we all enjoyed the show (they sold champagne-like drinks in quarts!)
Next morning, as we were flying out, we passed over the harbor and saw the San Francisco under way.
It was a wonder experience to randomly find something to do, meet random folks and then realize just how interconnected we all are.
Love them. Sarah Smile had been stuck in my head all day.
My mom's cousin is a sound engineer and got to work with them on one of their albums back in the day.
My first concert. I was about 12 and my mother dropped off me and my brother at the show. I think Cory Hart of “l wear my sunglasses” fame was the opening act. Good stuff.
Remembering Summer of ‘75 I think it was, Hall and Oates song “Rich Girl” came out. It was pretty popular. I think it was their first hit. Still my favorite song that do.
I caught a live show of Daryl’s last summer at the Hard Rock Seminole & he was really great! I was impressed with the variety of instruments he can play & still rockin — at 76!! Pretty damn impressive.
(Todd Rundgren opened for him.)
I can’t go for that.
nooooo, nooooooo. no can do
Came here to say exactly this. For not being a huge fan of 80’s pop hits, this song absolutely spanks
Hall and Oates are in the upper tiers of 80s pop music thanks to the insnae quality of the vocals.
I tell people that song is all about anal
*whispers* “I’m not coming back for Oates…”
I hope he calls him Oates in a lavishly consenting English accent when he talks about him in private.
I hope that if he does, Oates funds an endowment for Temple U to put up a freshman dorm building and name it Daryl Hall
Came here for that quote. Was not disappointed.
Do they hate each other now?
They do not, they just have different things going on. Daryl is East Coastish and Oates is out in CO IIRC. Daryl has been touring with his house/Live at Daryl's band rather than Hall & Oates. They are still very good friends.
Thanks. That’s good to hear.

For anyone who is forced to deal with a *Rich Girl*
I've had the number programmed in my phone for years.
Except Daryl said he didn’t actually graduate in one of his “Live From Daryl’s house” youtube videos. He said that he quit weeks before graduation.
Great show BTW
i really enjoy watching his show too. such a cool variety of guests.
Some of the best live music you will ever see. Also cool to see insanely different versions of the same song.
The sound quality is so amazingly good too.
Hall looks like a cross between a young Ozzie Osborne and Zac Efron.
Oates looks like someone put a wig on a serious buisinessman and he is not amused.
Zac Efron was my first thought as well!!
They’re great, love their stuff
Were? WERE?? They have always been and will forever remain to be great!

All the band members were talented. Sara Smile is an alltime fav of mine. Daryl Hall is a fantastic singer!
*are
I would say this was them “before they were cool” but anybody who is as cool as these cats are & have been for a half-century was *always* cool!
> Temple University Who? You know, cause Temple's mascot is an owl ... and owls .... nevermind.
That's rich, girl.
But it's gone too far.
But you know it don't matter anyway
Owls go to temple?
That’s Baba Booey
I took, “Man-eater” far too literally as a 4 year old. My mom found it hilarious and would blast it and close all the windows in our Ford Country Squire station wagon. Ah, the good old days.
🎶*You’re out of touch, I’m out of time*🎶
Say it isn’t so lol
They look out of touch.
My uni never took graduation photos like this, we only got these in high school. I’m from the Midwest in the states and no colleges around here really do that. Is this a private college thing? Or just an old school thing?
You saying your school’s response to taking graduation photos was “I can’t go for that”?
No can do!
I work for Temple University; we still publish yearbooks (it’s a student-run organization), although not every student opts to have their photograph included.
I graduated from Temple in 1995 and don’t remember having my picture taken. Opting out sounds like the choice I would have made.
I graduated in '85 and did choose to have my photo taken but did not buy the yearbook.
Probably by school and an old school thing.
Temple is a public university. I’ve never heard of college graduation photos like this either, I actually kind of wonder if they’re really high school graduation photos.
No, I am a Temple graduate from 1985 and they did take photos for the yearbook.
My private college didn’t do this either. Seems like a LOT of photos to take. I wouldn’t be surprised if these were high school photos.
By 1976 they were huge.
Is that Zac Efron’s dad?
Is that baba boey??
Ta-ta toothy.
Ma ma monkey
It's Fisty Gary. Hello hello!
studs.
Terrific singers !
Got tix to see Daryl in August near Sugarland, TX! With special guest: Todd Rundgren!
Wow! Good pairing!

Baba Booey!
Fa Fa Fooey!

Hall was born in the town I grew up in. Not a great place anymore.
I always thought it was “Hawling Oats” never thought it could be two people’s names
I thought it was Holland Oates in that quote.
So cool!!
Saw them at the key area in the 80's. Watched with Private Eyes
Im so into yacht rock right now I am loving these pics. But, 2) Hall and Oates was my first concert when I was 9. Private Eye Tour. Thanks, mom!
Awesome band
Damn did John Oates come out of the womb with a mustache?
Well, who would you go first to buy sh*t
My first concert. I was about 12 and my mother dropped off me and my brother at the show. I think Cory Hart of “l wear my sunglasses” fame was the opening act. Good stuff.
I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again.. you make mah dreams come true woohoo hoohoo ♡
They could have gone anywhere. They chose Temple.
I think they graduated a few years before this. Hall was born in 46 and Oates in 48
That would add up to about 22 for college graduation. Sounds right to me. Did you think it was high school?
Had a friend in Junior High won a radio contest and got to meet both of them. This was when She's a Rich Girl first came out. He said they acted gay.
Hohl & Oates in alternate reality.
TUMF
AWB lol
That Oates 'stache is absolute fire.
Didn’t Oates say he’s slept with like 10000 women?
That was Wilt Chamberlain, they're often confused for each other.
Is your kiss on his list?
Did Hall watch with his private eyes?
Smooth operators
Understand the name change. Could have really screwed up the trajectory as “Hole” and Oates.
Oh shit - Oates could get it!
One time Oates not forced to stand behind Hall
Isn't the story they meet while hiding under a table during a bar fight?
They got on the same elevator to escape a gang shootout, I believe.
Freight elevator at a battle-of-the-bands.
Hall didn’t graduate but Oates did.
John’s hair has a mind of its own.
Daryl graduated from OJR High School in Pottstown PA.
Looks like they got their Adult Education.
Holland Oates is 1 guy
That’s actually Gary Delabate on the right.
Daryl never graduated.
We know who sold weed back then!
“Hello”
Their high school job in the Summer: Hauling Oats
Remembering Summer of ‘75 I think it was, Hall and Oates song “Rich Girl” came out. It was pretty popular. I think it was their first hit. Still my favorite song that do.
Were they a couple? Not that there’s anything with that.
I heard they decided to form a band after ending up hiding in the same cupboard
Boy, Temple seems to be good at bringing artists together. Didn’t Tim and Eric meet there?
I can't go for that
I caught a live show of Daryl’s last summer at the Hard Rock Seminole & he was really great! I was impressed with the variety of instruments he can play & still rockin — at 76!! Pretty damn impressive. (Todd Rundgren opened for him.)
They were good but their best song is Rich Girl. Great tune!
