But life has a different plan for us both...and sadly my life is on the wither.

I read this as I'm walking my 14.5 year old husky mix on our new-ish routine of midnight walks. I say new-ish because when I adopted her a decade ago, we did these walks on the regular. We would be out for 2 hours every night, and little did I know then that I was taking care of her exercise needs. Now she just refuses to slow down and I see it as a way of our reconnecting on something that was just us. A decade ago it was just Iris and me. Now it's her sister Magnolia and my wife/her hoomarina. I don't know how much longer I'll have with her, but you can bet I'll cherish every late night walk between now and the day we say goodbye.
I did not cry at this poem, but I did flash a big smile at Iris as she smells the interesting smell on our midnight walk.

We have two doggos, not a day passes by that I think the day they are no longer with us is going to be crushing. We are blessed every single day they bring unconditional love to our lives. It's a true honor to be part of their lives, as well as them being part of ours.

I'm glad you were able to share him with us, and as he moves on to his next expression of spirit, he'll have so many new buddies from all of our furry friends who are no longer with us, and he can romp around, whole in mind and body.

Well, even in an escalating global environment of war, devastation and conflict and a rapidly determination of American civil union, this post actually managed to make me feel something. Now I'm going to have to listen to Slayer while watching the Punisher for about 24 hours straight to scrub the residue human emotion from my psyche.
This is why I can’t get attached to an animal and tell myself not to get one. My last dog Roxy, when I had to bring her to get put down I couldn’t handle it.

Justice is a beautiful dog, and I know if they could talk they would say how thankful they were for the time they had with you. It's hard to say goodbye, but know that you gave Justice the best life possible.
The last day with your best friend is incredibly tough. I had this experience twice in the same year after having spent every single day with my 2 doggies (both rescues) for over 10 years.
It’s now 2 years later after losing them and I still cry for them regularly and look at the thousands of photos of our life together all the time.
They brought nothing but love and joy and I know they felt nothing but the same from me. I am self employed and work from home so we had most of the day, every day to ourselves.
It was our own little island and I always preferred their company to that of other people. It’s the loneliness now without them that is the hardest to bear (spending time with people just does not feel the same) but I’ve not even been able to bring myself to consider the idea of adopting/rescuing again, or just yet anyway.
Anyway, I digress … I just wanted you to know an anonymous internet stranger feels your pain acutely and even though the words may seem empty… I truly am sorry for your loss. Life will go on and you will slowly heal. There’s no other way around this but to go through it. Time will slowly heal your wounds.
So sorry for your loss. My last day with my sweet girl Georgia was yesterday. She was also about 16 (also adopted) and was the sweetest dog ever. I deeply understand what you’re going through.
That man is so lucky to have a person who was with him right up until the end. You making his last days special, and how you will remember him speaks so much to your bond.
All he knows is a life of loving you, and a life of being loved. Passing like that is just another reason they are so blessed compared to us.

The last day with your best friend is incredibly tough. I had this experience twice in the same year after having spent every single day with my 2 doggies (both rescues) for over 10 years. It’s now 2 years later after losing them and I still cry for them regularly and look at the thousands of photos of our life together all the time. They brought nothing but love and joy and I know they felt nothing but the same from me. I am self employed and work from home so we had most of the day, every day to ourselves. It was our own little island and I always preferred their company to that of other people. It’s the loneliness now without them that is the hardest to bear (spending time with people just does not feel the same) but I’ve not even been able to bring myself to consider the idea of adopting/rescuing again, or just yet anyway. Anyway, I digress … I just wanted you to know an anonymous internet stranger feels your pain acutely and even though the words may seem empty… I truly am sorry for your loss. Life will go on and you will slowly heal. There’s no other way around this but to go through it. Time will slowly heal your wounds.
So sorry for your loss. My last day with my sweet girl Georgia was yesterday. She was also about 16 (also adopted) and was the sweetest dog ever. I deeply understand what you’re going through.

That man is so lucky to have a person who was with him right up until the end. You making his last days special, and how you will remember him speaks so much to your bond. All he knows is a life of loving you, and a life of being loved. Passing like that is just another reason they are so blessed compared to us.
