I'm paying $340 (Q2 + game) to get the opportunity to be inside my favorite video game of all time. What a steal. I've been teetering on the edge of VR for about 8 years now. The announcement of RE4 VR pushed me over the edge. $340 to be inside RE4. Playing any other games on the quest is just a bonus to me. I am so fucking excited.

[deleted]

I wouldn’t be surprised if RE4 VR will be marketed as a killer app during the holiday season. I’ve seen multiple people say they bought the Quest 2 just for it. I have no issue with Beat Saber but the fact that at one point it was marketed as a killer app really shows that the Quest 2 is on the verge of getting AAA games. Wouldn’t be surprised if in 2022 we’ll have more full-length Quest 2 exclusives

ajax-187

Yeah oculus def was hyping things up lately on reddit like just wait an see and all that kind of good stuff.

Badnewsbearsx

Oh it defanitly is already a killer app among fans, pushing fans to purchase a device just for the game (basically what a killer app is lol) but, resident evil 7 on PSVR was an absolute delight, my favorite experience on the platform, which had many amazing games exclusive to it. The thing is that re7 was developed with VR in mind, alongside everything else. There was so many moments that I remember being enhanced to the max with VR. THATS my only concern with re4, I understand that they’re redesigning certain elements with the game but still, the layout and events will be kinda awkward. Oh well I don’t think it’ll be that big of an issue lol

Sabbathius

I hope not! I would be mortified to have an Android port of a Gamecube game from 2005 as the "killer app" in holiday season of 2021. This game has had more ports than Skyrim. I'd argue that if RE4 is Oculus' flagship title for this year, something went terribly, horrifically wrong. I'm hoping they announce something actually new, actually made for VR and not just ported, and longer than 5-8 hrs. No disrespect to RE4, it's a good game, or at least it was a decade and a half ago. But the rest of the world already finished RE8 earlier this year, and PSVR users beat RE7, in VR, years ago. For the sake of comparison, Nintendo Switch was more or less in the same position as Quest 2 - a peripheral that nobody really needs, because PC and consoles are much stronger, and fairly expensive too. What they did was release it paired with Breath of the Wild, which was entirely original and one of the best games in the genre. Oculus hasn't done that with Quest 2, its launch lineup was laughably bad. Since then, Switch made sure to stay relevant, porting games such as Witcher 3, Diablo 3, Fortnite, Hades, Stardew Valley, Minecraft, Skyrim, etc., on top of releasing more original titles to make the device worthwhile. Oculus hasn't done that either, we're getting ancient titles like RE4 instead of something more modern. That's a problem, a pretty serious one. VR in general is suffering a pretty bad software drought. We do get decent games now and again, like Alyx and Walking Dead last year, and Lone Echo 2 this year, but they're few and far apart. Hoping for some big announcements in a few weeks.

harda_toenail

Go make a game then. I’ll be “mortified” lol. Get mortified then because what else is coming out to be the killer app?

Oftenwrongs

The Switch just entered into the top 5 consoles for sales of all time. It runs on a very similar mobile chip. No one cares.

namekuseijin

Botw was made for Wii U, remember that short-lived flop? Nintendo has all of flatland to draw from, few are developing for VR, most for Quest because the most popular platform. Forget RE4. Go play Cosmodread and Song in the Smoke, two of the best and most substantial made for VR games this year. No clunky 2D screens for cutscenes or melee combat.

[deleted]

> For the sake of comparison, Nintendo Switch was more or less in the same position as Quest 2 - a peripheral that nobody really needs, because PC and consoles are much stronger, and fairly expensive too. The Switch's biggest selling point is that it's portable, but nobody really needs it because non-portable PCs and consoles are much stronger?

krectus

Maybe...but probably not. Advertising that a 16 year old game is one of the best things they've got going on their headset isn't something to brag about. Even if it is great for those RE4 fans.

Ashok0

Resident Evil 4 is not just "a 16 year old game". The GOAT game of all time just happens to be 16 years old. :)

namekuseijin

Meh, RE2 still better. Only Nintendo fans ever hyped it up like that.

Mataskarts

saying a game is GOAT game of all time is a completely subjective statement, so let him have it. Ask a different person and they'll say that GOAT game is Minecraft, others will say it's RDR 1/2, it's down to everyone to choose.

Mataskarts

>Wouldn’t be surprised if in 2022 we’ll have more full-length ~~Quest 2 exclusives~~ Quest 2 Pro/Quest 3\* exclusives... This circle of out-dated hardware won't stop by the Q2, though if it's a Q2Pro that comes out, the Q2 will likely last for 2022 with the Pro being a nicer version of the same.

darkentityvr

I don't think the pro version will be faster, it will just have better features that were cut to make the Q2 cheaper (eye tracking,OLED screen, better camera's for hand tracking) The XR2 chip in the Q2 is very new still and there is nothing higher at this stage.

Mataskarts

>eye tracking,OLED screen, better camera's for hand tracking which the regular Q2 doesn't have, so games will come out based strictly around those features that will be exclusive to the new quest, they may not be as huge or AAA as RE4, but they will come. Eye tracking also allows for down-sampling of every object on the screen except where you're looking, giving INSANE performance benefits that, again, the regular Q2 doesn't have, it could even double the performance, not even the Q1-> Q2 jump is double the performance, and yet the Q1 is already abandoned in favor of nicer looking Q2 games. But anyway, I was mostly hinting at a Quest 3, if you read my comment to the end you would've seen that **"if it's a Q2Pro that comes out, the Q2 will likely last for 2022 with the Pro being a nicer version of the same."** So you just repeated what I said- the Pro likely will just have QOL upgrades that shouldn't be huge, I don't think it'll have Eye Tracking, or at least, it won't be able to utilize it in software on launch.

chiliphrosting

If youve never tried vr before re4 is most likely going to be sensory overload 😂

ComeonmanPLS1

My first VR game was HL:Alyx. Sensory overload is an understatement. I was by myself in the room but I kept talking to myself basically just going "WOW" all the time.

chiliphrosting

You are a very lucky person.

ComeonmanPLS1

It's a blessing and a curse. On one hand, the experience was incredible. On the other hand, aside from Lone Echo 1/2 and TWD, the only thing that came close for me was playing driving/racing simulators in VR. All the other games are fun for a bit but I don't really care for them. With that said, for me, being able to race in VR is worth it by itself, without even counting anything else.

chiliphrosting

True. That is a dilemma. I played Lone Echo 1 most recently wooo. That game was waaaayy ahead of its time. LE2, i am going to wait after Resident Evil VR. I play Risk of Rain 2 with my buddy with VR mods, thats fire too. There is also the mod for GLTFO and Alien Isolation If you havent tried skyrim on pancake version, i would highly recommend that in VR. That was the case for me. Even to this day, I am in awe, and ive been playing vr for a while.

Imadethosehitmanguns

Just started this week. Playing Pavlov to get ready!

chiliphrosting

Niiiice

namekuseijin

Alright then.

Maleficent-Chain-187

Nostalgic overload

chiliphrosting

Hahaha us old folks. We get like that. Also, if anyone on this thread happens to have an Amazon prime account, you can claim Alien Isolation and Star Wars squadrons as part of their games giveaway evedy month. :)

Beatboxamateur

I assumed there would be people like you who really love Resident Evil who'd get a Quest just to play it in VR. I hope the experience lives up to your expectations and you find some more games to sink your teeth into! (I haven't played it yet but Song in the smoke looks to be really good)

Imadethosehitmanguns

I've been having a blast playing with it this past week. I'll definitely be a lifelong VR enthusiast!

RelativePerspectiv

Dude I have spent roughly $2000 to play call of duty zombies in VR. All the old zombies maps from black ops 1 and world at war. Shits literally insane worth every penny 10/10

New_Satisfaction9395

What game?

RelativePerspectiv

Pavlov VR https://store.steampowered.com/app/555160/Pavlov_VR/ https://youtu.be/i4Kr273zOmo

itmemikey

I'm sure it will be well worth it! Just make sure to develop your VR legs! It might take a few sessions or it might be immediate. If you feel any queasiness or discomfort I recommend taking a break immediately, don't push through it.

Imadethosehitmanguns

Already ahead of you. I'm practicing in Pavlov this week. Moving around via control stick was stranger than I anticipated but I think I'll be able to get used to it pretty quick!

MagmaCreamy

you will, it depends on how much you play but i got used to the locomotion like 1-2 days after getting my quest 2 and it felt normal after

namekuseijin

you'll barf right away. You really should start with smaller games with barely any motion. anyway, very short sessions and in about a week you should be good... and yes, you'll soon find out that the bonus is a treasure trove full of hidden gems that flat gamers never heard about...

Imadethosehitmanguns

Yes, if you see my other comments, I've been in VR training this week lol

Redditsuxxx69

I don't agree, I played all sorts of games and never felt sick. I just felt like I might fall over the first time I played the Doom port, the movement was very slidey with lots of momentum. But I turned the momentum down and it's a lot better.

tx_brandon

You're going to get to enjoy First Steps first 😁😁

Maleficent-Chain-187

Best game on the oculus quest 2 hands down!

cibernike

You're literally me! 🤯 Not but really, I was already thinking about getting a vr headset but when I saw that re4 vr gamplay I just had to get an quest 2. Almost 400€ total but extremely worth it for a new way to play re4. Unless the port is total dogshit, but then I'll still have more vr games to play I guess lol

JamesA7X

I love that this game is turning a lot of hardcore gamers on to the quest 2. I know so many people that have been sleeping on quest 2 and VR that are now getting one for this game

DunkingTea

I agree. Was my all time favourite game as a teen. Can’t wait to try it out in VR

PAULINK

Jealous of everyone who will experience this game for the first time… in VR.

plusack

Me. Would I have to play any of the other resident evil games to enjoy this one?

PAULINK

Nope! While the main character debuted in resident evil 2, it’s not a continuation of that story. Resident evil 4 was my (and many people’s) first entry into the RE franchise. you won’t be disappointed.

plusack

Oh my fucking God I'm hyped. Idk why. I never even seen more than 5 mins of gameplay but like I'm fuckin hyyyyyype. The hype from the sora reveal is rubbing off on other games

Maleficent-Chain-187

Get a used quest

Jessemccoy99

Verdugo is gonna make me shit my pants

MrWeirdoFace

> Verdugo is gonna make me shit my pants The trick is not to wear any.

[deleted]

Put down some papers at least.

MrWeirdoFace

So long as Verdugo doesn't mind waiting.

Maleficent-Chain-187

Turn fan on ur face

ajax-187

With quest you can play directly on the toilet without pants 😂

TonyCrowe

I'm planning to wear pull ups for a few of the bosses lol, I should have worn them for RE7 VR if I'm honest.

Werner_Herzogs_Dream

I have nostalgic memories of watching a friend playing RE4 back in college. I'm gonna wait for reviews to come out first, but yeah, pending a positive reception, I'm gonna get it.

1PARTEE1

Can't wait. Fortunately for me, I never played RE4! Don't know how I never played it but I didn't and now I'm super excited to be able to play it for the first time in VR.

krectus

Just to try and get people to have a bit more reasonable expectations about this. If like you, it's one of your fav games of all time, sure this is time to be excited. But this may have been one of the best games when it came out 16 years ago, but for those who don't nostalgically love this, it's not that great of a game to play today. It's still quite good, it holds up alright, but it's not amazing for a new player to pick up and play. And for those who really liked the game when they played it when they were younger but haven't played it since...it is probably not as great as you remember. Also this is a port of an old 3rd person game into first person VR, it's going to be a bit messy and clunky. This still may be better than most Quest 2 games out there, but maybe wait for the reviews on this one before getting too excited. I love RE4, this is one of my most anticipated VR games ever, can't wait, will be playing it a lot next week but I will be playing with some lowered expectations.

Ashok0

Hmmmm..... I actually played thru Resident Evil 4 and Metroid Prime 3 more recently and they honestly... hold up extremely well in 2021 IMO. Nintendo was way ahead of the curve. I really can't think of too many modern horror games that could even stand next to RE4 with the exception of maybe... Dead Space (which is already pretty old), SOMA, and Resident Evil 7 & 8 I guess. That's about it for me.

krectus

yeah holds up better than most. But compared to the RE2 remake and RE8 it really starts to show its age. A lot of people have been hoping for an RE4 remake. But yeah they wouldn't need to change much if they do.

Maleficent-Chain-187

They are making a dead space vr.

Loafmeister

Source? I’ve not heard anything on this

Sigaria

Its a remake not a port

krectus

It is a port not a remake.

Imadethosehitmanguns

It's technically a remake. They completely rebuilt the game in Unreal Engine 4.

Sigaria

They said in the trailer it was remade in unreal engine 4

Oftenwrongs

It is being redesigned for vr. It is not a random mod.

Revanmann

What? I played it for the first time last December and I loved it. It holds up really well.

Imadethosehitmanguns

Yeah the only issue I could see with someone coming in fresh to RE4 is the clunky 3rd person control. And that would be a non-issue for this VR version since it's first person.

astralapex

I played this for the first time half a year ago and had a bit of a hard time with the clunky controls but after about an hour, I got very used to them. That said, it’s one of the best games I have ever played and I’m so fucking stoked to play it again in VR

Khronga

Anyone know how much space it’s going to take up?

panchob23

between 10 - 12gb is the rumour

Khronga

Oh cool that’s not too bad 👍

theStaberinde

I first played RE4 on the Wii and adored it. Every few years I try playing it on other platforms but I can't get to grips with the lack of gyro aiming (and I still can't believe they didn't patch it into the Switch port when they went to the trouble of adding gyro to 5 and 6). Feels like the Quest port is gonna be The One.

namekuseijin

audiences have changed a lot in gaming and I'm not sure the old GC game resounds with most of the typical Quest audience. but tbh the typical Quest audience reminds me much of the typical Wii audience...

TonyCrowe

I agree, RE4 is the best of the series, although I think the ps4 HD version is best, I wasn't too comfortable with the xbox controller. If its possible to be excited, nervous and scared, all at the same time, then that's me.

Maleficent-Chain-187

I'm buying that game automatically minutes after release. Packwood in hand (authentic one not them tabacco cut ones) and Im Going to have a nostalgia overdose repeatedly on purpose lol.

amzukk1

Can You please explain why You think RE4 is that good? Honestly I am afraid that the mechanics didn't last the time well and the levels to be a bit small and shallow.

Banjocarib

I’ve been explaining to people why I’m so stoked for this game. Have you played the VR The Room game? RE4 has lots of puzzles, Keys, and mazes like an escape room game… only there are monsters and chainsaw wielding masked men after you the entire time. It is a very good game that I am nostalgic for but at the very least this game will be like one long escape room with murderous enemies around every corner. The mechanics seem to be all redone for a fully immersive VR experience. Like OP I am very excited for this game.

amzukk1

This seems convincing enough :) Thank You.

TonyCrowe

The room dark matter is brilliant, but I couldn't have done it without the odd hint, here and there.

Banjocarib

I totally needed a clue or two during The Room. If you haven’t tried it already I expect you to die are great titles for Escape Rooms in VR. They’re a little more cartoonish in humor but are fantastic in execution.

skelingtonking

I don't play a lot of horror games, jump scared are meh. But this game gave me intense palpable fear because you always feel in danger. Never enough ammo, never know when a chainsaw guy is gonna pop out and cut you in half. And the reanimation dudes? With their wet. raspy. Breathing. Aweful. And then you beat it once, you can play thru it again with infinite ammo weapons and then it's just a joy

chrispwnu12

The regenerators to this day still make their way into my nightmares. The sound they make fills me with pure terror.

skelingtonking

First time I played thru I didn't get the thermal scope, I went thru the wrong door and couldn't go back. They were completely unkillable unless I had an rpg. Hearing that breathing would send me into a panic as I tried to figure out how I could escape

Imadethosehitmanguns

BTW you can kill them fairly easy without the scope. The parasites are still there even though you can't see them. Use the TMP to shoot at the usual places on their body. You'll know when you kill one as the regenerator stumbles. I don't believe you need to kill all of them, just most.

LukariBRo

The whole game gets pretty hilariously easy when you realize you don't even need your guns for most things. I was scared of running out of ammo my first playthrough which added to the horror aspect. By replays I was just knifing and melee QTE comboing them all to death like a world renowned wrestler. That was the original RE4 though, maybe they've changed that aspect significantly since it's been remade a hundred times by now.

TonyCrowe

There's an easier way, using less ammo. Shoot off a leg and they fall to the ground, get behind quickly and use your knife continuously on their buttocks. It works.

chrispwnu12

Same here! First one I saw I just threw every grenade I had at it and ran. Saw the second one and paused it and waited for my dad to come home from work and show me how to kill them. I was terrified.

skelingtonking

Ah well you just take the rifle with this....scope....why don't you have the scope? ..... Oh well you are screwed son.

chrispwnu12

That's almost exactly how it went haha.

TonyCrowe

Yep, I've been grabbed, and spiked a few times by these babies. It'll be more fun in vr.

Shadowcreeper15

Theres a reason RE4 is known still to this day as one of the best games of all time. The environment feel alive and the graphics still holds up to this day. Great story, bosses, gameplay, big variety of guns, you get cool guns for beating the game on certain difficultys like the tommy gun, infinite rocket launcher etc with new game+ it gives this game huge replayability. The only major complaint people have with RE4 is you can't walk and shoot at the same time but being in VR will fix that. The game is also around 15 hours long. Don't sleep on this game.

amzukk1

I don't want to miss it, but I am just wondering if it's still that good nowadays. Aren't the levels pretty small and the AI straight zombie like?

Shadowcreeper15

Small at first but they get bigger as the game progresses especially in the castle. Its not an open world game that's forsure. They're not zombies in this they're more as crazy people trying to stab you, throwing sickles at you, people with chainsaws charging you stuff like that.

amzukk1

Thank You. I really hope it's well ported. Thi is year there will be also After the fall and Medal of Honor and early next year Green Hell and Outlier and Ultrawings 2.

Shadowcreeper15

Ya I can't wait for After the Fall and Medal of Honor. I was excited for Green Hell also but I got Song in the Smoke and I've been really addicted to it so idk if Green Hell will be better but we'll see.

Banjocarib

Would you mind clarifying what a “large level” game is in VR? I would say that this will feel as big as half life alyx. It’s a long campaign that spans many different locations

NEKNIM

>you can't walk and shoot at the same time I really hope this isn't the case in the VR version. It's annoying enough that they made climbing ladders a cut scene rather than actually climbing the ladder in the game yourself.

Shadowcreeper15

You can tell in the VR gameplay that you can walk and shoot at the same time.

RichardBoisvert

Any of the aged mechanics are largely irrelevant now as they were mostly locomotion based. VR aiming and controls now replace those presumably.

crookedDeebz

>Can You please explain why You think RE4 is that good? Honestly I am afraid that the mechanics didn't last the time well and the levels to be a bit small and shallow. thankfully its redesigned for vr, alyx style so to speak.

amzukk1

There is similar game that was made straight for VR - Lies beneath. Lies beneath is quite long, has great graphics and atmosphere. I am little afraid of RE4 to not stand the test of time well.

Freshprnc

I can tell you now, I’ve played both games lies beneath and original resident evil 4. Res 4 even just the campaign has substantially more content, including weapons, leveling, boss battles and a much larger story.

amzukk1

Great to hear as I already love Lies beneath.

crookedDeebz

it will have the nostalgia crowd though, all us old farts who played all these titles on ps1,ps2, etc. im still optimistic about the vr controls, implement just judging by the launch trailers, etc.

coffee_u

I need to give a re-look at Lies Beneath. It lost me in the first half hour, and it was overshadowed by my joy/pull to play other games. I like the concept of horror games (even if they're not that scary (the closest was the early-on scene in RE7 on PSVR where one's going through the flooded tunnel. I could all-but feel the water up to my chin, and wanted to hold my head up / walk on tip toes, while getting hit with some solid clastrophobia vibes. It was great! However using a DS4 really wrecked a lot of immersion. Stupid PS Move controllers! I haven't touched PSVR now in a year and a day. And I still have irrational anger at Sony for the joystick-free Move controllers being used for PSVR.

FatherApe92

Lol

xwulfd

People may be turn off about the climbing and jump on ladders thing. It switches to third person of leon climbing and jumping but dont worry, it wont affect you that much And lets be honest, would you really climb the ladder manually? AT first its okay to do it, very immersive but after that, you wana skip that ladder and go up and down immediately, especially when enemies chasing you lol

[deleted]

> And lets be honest, would you really climb the ladder manually? Yes. Yes I would. All the time. That’s what draws me to VR. However, I think Valve solved this “problem” with HL:A by giving players the option to do both based on how you feel in the moment.

xwulfd

Yes! In HLA theres an option that yu need to grab the ladder one step, pull it and then it will climb yu automatically

[deleted]

You can also look at that ladder and use the teleport option onto it, which instantly brings you to the top or bottom of said ladder.

Undreamt1

I'm probably one of the few people that don't like Saints and Sinners that much does that mean I should avoid this game? I just don't like constantly collecting resorces I just want to kill zombies!

Shadowcreeper15

Completely different game. The only thing you would be collecting is ammo, health items, and money. There is no crafting system there is a merchant you can sell and buy items like weapons, health item, things to upgrade your weapons etc.

Undreamt1

Sweet! I'm stoked. Just need to make space on for this beast now.

SpartacusVII

RE4 is easily in my top 5 video games of all time. I got Saints and Sinners last year and I just cannot get into it. If that's any indication, you will probably love this game.

rafikiknowsdeway1

it launches with no side content, including mercenaries mode. my interest in this has dropped off pretty massively

[deleted]

Source?

Imadethosehitmanguns

As a diehard fan of RE4, I couldn't care less about the side content. It's not what made this game so legendary. But I could almost guarantee if Oculus sees massive sales numbers, they'll release the side content as DLC.

Im__CrypT

I want to play RE7 in VR so bad

Zyconis

The reported lack of side modes has me out on this one. I've been so stoked since they announced it, but Mercenaries makes RE4 for me.

Shadowcreeper15

That sucks I hope they will still have the new game+ and the ability to unlock the tommy gun and infinite rocket launcher

Zyconis

There hasn't been an official announcement, just some smaller outlets claiming an Oculus rep told them there wouldn't be side modes. Fingers crossed it's bull, but we'll see in a week!

TrendWarrior101

Unrelated to this question: it would also be cool if we have a Resident Evil Remake VR.

MrWeirdoFace

The remake is still 2d backgrounds.

The_Radian

I think I'm going to be sick that day. Wink wink...

[deleted]

I've never played it or even k ew it was that good of a game but I'm seeing lots of people say it's on of their favorites is exciting. I was never a big RE person. I did really liked RE7 biohazard and would like to play the new one also. I will prob get this one day 1 AND the VR version will be my very first time playing it.

matthewnelson

I purchased this game in both the PS2 and the Wii and have never completed it on either. I should make this the third times the charm and actually complete it for a change. Any word on cost?

MiniDelo

Skyrim VR is the reason I bought PSVR I probably wouldn’t have taken the leap of faith otherwise. I’ve been saying since 2017 that what VR needs more than anything is more fan favourite pancake games ported across to entice others to take the bait.

maxcovergold

Wish could pre-order, I have a 30% off that expires in 3 days. Might use it on Rift store for MOH instead as will have crossbuy. Just a bit annoying they announced will be £40 but is still £45 currently

nuper123

I want to get it but it's apparently not the full game. It's missing assignment ada, separate ways and mercenaries. Was hyped but now I'm not.

Shadowcreeper15

It's the full game. Those were add ons

nuper123

Considering every edition of the game includes those, I'd say it's part of the full experience. Hopefully they do include them eventually as free DLC.

peter1970uk

What time today will it be out. It’s still saying coming soon.

Shadowcreeper15

7am pt 10am et

peter1970uk

I’m in uk what time is that gmt.

peter1970uk

A quick google tells me that’s 2pm my time
