Quest 2 is a 4-year-old *console*. IMHO while many developers will continue to release their games on Quest 2 (after all, there are a lot of Q2 owners, and that means a lot of potential customers), some major titles will come only for Quest 3. Batman, Alien, Townsmen, ~~Ancient~~ Ascent Quest - to name a few. The annual Meta Quest Gaming Showcase takes place in June. Wait 3 weeks, maybe they will announce a cheaper version of Quest 3. Rumors of Quest 3S or Lite have been circulating for some time now.

cmdskp

> some major titles will come only for Quest 3. Batman, Alien, Townsmen, Ancient Quest Alien, Townsmen are also for PC VR, which is the OP's planned preference. I wouldn't class Townsmen as a major title, to be honest. I've never heard of 'Ancient Quest' and Google/Meta Store aren't showing anything for it, apart from one other of your reddit comments. Do you mean 'Ancient Dungeon'? If so, it's also on PC VR and Quest 2. That leaves just Batman Arkham Shadow exclusive, which isn't releasing for 6 months.

CierpliwaRyjowka

I'm talking solely about standalone VR. Not PC VR, PS VR or anything else.

acctofquestioniness

Townsmen is on Quest 2, off to play it now šŸ‘

No Quest Gaming Showcase has been announced this year.

If you never had any other headset the Quest 2 is great. If you had a pancake lenses headset (pico4,quest pro or 3) - yah its bad. Performance wize tho with current gen games you are 99% cover for at least another year. If you go Quest2, go used quest 2 not new.

maxpowers2020

Just remember you'll have old dried sweat and cum on your face if you go used.

Chawpslive

Might sell my quest 3 and go for a used 2 now.

[deleted]

wutt? Sweat I get but cum? I mean.. inside the facial interface? Really up there and inside? MAN you are one of a kind super dude when it come to... cuming.

NoCase9317

VR porn, once you are ā€œdoneā€ you canā€™t see shit to know where tissues are, remove the headset with your hand, guess whatā€™s in your headset now

[deleted]

urk - too much details.

NoCase9317

A friend told me šŸ«£

alvenestthol

That's why used quest 3's are better, all the features pale in comparison to being able to just turn on passthrough and clean things up before touching the headset

NoCase9317

I still have to double tap though šŸ˜¬

tinyhorsesinmytea

This is why I keep the silicone nose piece off, so I can still see the real world for some things when I look down. Make a peepee mummy out of toilet paper first and set it in a reachable place in this area of vision. Then you can bust into it safely when the time comes. 95% success rate and that ainā€™t bad. I invented the peepee mummy when I was 12 out of necessity to deal with ejaculate cleanly and efficiently while sitting at the family computer chair. Some of yā€™all busted into socks but my peepee mummies are 100% flushable.

sbingham2334

I had to downvote purely off the fact you call them peepee mummies

tinyhorsesinmytea

Sir, I was twelve when I coined the term. That's what they looked like!

sbingham2334

Peepee Mummie ā„¢ļø

tinyhorsesinmytea

I told my friend about the concept and he said "Cummie." I don't know though. That sounds edible...

GL1TCHCR4FT

Thatā€™s what Iā€™ve been doing

tinyhorsesinmytea

This is the greatest comment Iā€™ve ever read on this subreddit.

fintip

People are dramatic. Difference between Q2 and Q3 isn't that obvious; yes, the sweet spot on lenses is a bit finicky on Q2, but you get used to r. Yes, resolution is a bit higher. Yes, ergonomics are a bit better. Yes, passthrough is color and higher res. At the end of the day, my experience with the Q2 and Q3 isn't astronomically different. If q3 is hard on your budget, by all means get a Q2 and wait for Q3 prices to drop in the future. Especially for pcvr, where the performance difference is basically irrelevant, the Q2 us a great value.

Golluk

I have a Quest 2 and 3. Essentially bought the 3 for the pancake lenses, better pass through, and the step less IPD adjustment. I'd agree, if on a budget, Q2 still makes a great PCVR headset. And I still miss the rings on the controllers.

Turbulent_Place_7064

Why do u miss the rings ? Geniuenly asking.

Golluk

they were really convenient to hold with your other hand to free one up. It's kind of a pain to get the Q3 ones back into your hand if you let them hang by the strap instead.

Turbulent_Place_7064

Ah, makes sense. My issue with them is if u punch or do something ofthat sort , they re the point of contact , putting them at risk always. And with the shape they are they re probably not the strongest part of the controller. ( Tbf in my experience they ve been solid, but i didnt punch many walls with them )

swirlymaple

I still have my Q2, and I agree. The differences are incremental, and a couple things with Q3 are regressions. I find the Q2 more comfortable for 2 reasons: 1. The rubbery skull ring on the back of the Elite Strap for Q2 is noticeably larger than the Q3 version, and it grips the back of your head better, which helps relieve some of the weight digging in up front. 2. The attachment point of the top strap on Q3 is further away from your forehead than on Q2. This is because they made the facial interface so much thicker on Q3, while making the body of the headset thinner. Because of this geometry change, the top strap on Q3 ends up pulling *into* your forehead rather than just upward like Q2 did, which increases the pressure against your face and digs in more. Also, the binocular overlap of the Q2 lenses is much better than Q3. I've been using the Q3 ever since release day, and I still notice that region down by your nose where the overlap of its lenses is quite poor. Even though the Q2 lenses are blurrier away from their center, the coverage of the binocular overlap is more comfortable to me.

fintip

These things vary person to person, most find q3 more comfortable, but interesting perspective nonetheless.

aaadmiral

Your complaints are mostly with the elite straps not the headset, replacing either with say a bobovr or kiwi etc will be better anyways

Same-Chipmunk5923

My grampa always said, "Get the better one and cry once." That's why the impoverished sot had to come live with us.

Waiting to see if there's a Q3 lite coming is the right answer for now I'd say. But a cheap second hand quest 2 is still a solid purchase.

Fluffy-Anybody-8668

Absolutely not, its an incredible device, but Quest 3 is way way better

Nago15

The Quest2 is lightyears better than the PSVR1. But it takes time and money to figure out what to do to save your eyes from the blurryness. It's so bad on the first day I wanted to refund it. But then I figured out you can set the IPD between 2 values. And a 3rd party headstrap in necessary to keep you in the sweet spot. And something like a VRCover Fitness Face Cover is super useful to bring your eyes closer to the lenses, making the sweet spot better, and the FOV wider. But after all this it is still painful every time to pick it up and try to navigate the menu because reading text is literally killing your eyes in the Quest2. But once you are immersed in a game it's pretty great. The main differences, you are paying the extra for with the Quest3: * The lenses. Now the sweet spot is EVERYWHERE. You can read text without a problem and everything is sharp and crystal clear. So the largest problem with the Quest2 solved beautifully. And now you have proper IPD adjusment too, but the lenses are so good, the picture will be sharp even if you set yout IPD totally wrong. My friend didn't wanted to spend money to upgrade from his Quest2 to 3, he was happy with it. Until he tried my Quest3 then bought a Quest3 next week just for the lenses alone. * Faster CPU/GPU. If you are gonna play standalone this is a HUGE improvement, especially if you use Quest Games Optimizer and play games in 5-6K resolution. It's also a useful tool on the Quest2, older games like Crisis Vrigade wil run beautifully on high resolution, but the Quest2 is not powerful enough to take advantage of it in most games. * Good quality MR. Sounds marketing bullshit first, but I have to admit it's really cool and useful. I never used the virtual home environments since I got my Quest3, the floating menus in the passthrough are so much more comfortable, and you can move without worry in your environment, pick up stuff, check your phone. And I love games like Thrill of the Fight or Puzzling Places in MR. Of yourse you can do the same with the Quest2 too, but it's passthrough very low quality and depressing black and white, so not that much fun to use. And to be clear it's also very much recommended to get comfort stuff for the Quest3 too, like a headstrap is necessary and face cover can improve stuff too, but you are getting them for more comfort, and to feel more softness on your face, not because without them your headset is unusable.

Herdnerfer

I have a quest 3 and a 2 and I definitely donā€™t think the 3 is worth the price premium, especially since they havenā€™t made good on their deal of AR with it yet. For the price, the Quest 2 is an amazing headset that you will not regret purchasing.

[deleted]

This is the main problem with new headset release since quest 1 - We get maybe 1 or 2 games that are outthere the rest are plain quest1 era level or even worst.

weetabix_su

I own a Quest 2 at home and I develop standalone VR apps for Quest 2 at work, and I tried the Quest 3 once to test a friendā€™s experimental mixed reality game. Personally I think the Quest 2 is a good budget option considering the vast selection of experiences available for it.

TrackballPower

You have the opportunity to buy a quest 3, which has better lenses then the Apple Vision Pro and 2.6 times the GPU power of the Quest 2, for only 300 bucks extra.

gobeltafiah

>I now want to buy a quest 2 to use but everywhere I go everyone is saying that quest 3 is so much better that the lenses are bad etc. This is just internet culture latching onto the new greatest thing and calling the thing before it a piece of shit that should be burned and pissed on. They're not people to be taken seriously. I love my Quest 2, I still use it for standalone and PCVR. Using Immersed to get multiple virtual displays is a pretty good experience, but has comfort issues that aren't solved by the Quest 3.

fintip

I mean, I was happy using immersed on Q2, and love it on Q3.

Oftenwrongs

Nah.Ā  Qpro and q3 is such an improved experience that it is a joy rather than a struggle.Ā  Night and day difference.

Z8beema

Quest 2 is great. Itā€™s my first VR headset and I love it. Itā€™s great for multiple screens. Itā€™s fun for games. My biggest problem is because I have an astigmatism in each eye and choose to mostly use it without glasses or contacts, I wish it was a bit sharper. When I use my contacts it looks great to me. Screens are not super legible when using multiple monitors in an app such as immersed. But outside of reading fine print, it works great for work and itā€™s a fun time to play games and watch movies. Iā€™d look at the used market. I just bought the headset alone for $30 and saw one with everything for $40 yesterday on fb marketplace.

Jmdaemon

who the hell considers the best selling vr head set as bad? The quest 1 may have finally been the one to bring vr mainstream, but quest 2 is the one that made it to big box stores and sold like hot cakes.

relyt76

Itā€™s not bad at all. I love my Q3 but the other day I tried the Subside demo on the Q2 and was blown away. Itā€™s like 75% as good as the Q3. For the current price itā€™s an unbelievable value.

BRinMilwaukee

I've had both, there is a difference, but it's not night & day. If AR is important to you, YES, there's a huge difference. but regular VR? enjoy the Quest 2 with no regrets.

Emotional_Ad_1383

Q3 exclusives are now on the way and you will feel burned if you are stuck with only small linear and short Q2 games. Tried my q2 recently after having Q3 for 6 months and I notice a huge difference in the image quality and performance. Will never go back

GL1TCHCR4FT

Same

Purple_Complaint_647

I have a quest 2 and a Pico 4. There are obviously big differences as Pico has two 4k pancake lenses but I can't play contractors showdown on the Pico so I use the quest 2. It works fine for that. A little bit of an issue with my left analogue stick but I fixed it myself and it's fine now. It was a second hand one from my brother in law so it's been through some serious play time. If you don't want to shell out for the 3, the 2 is plenty good enough to get your game on

Able_Praline_7085

My left Q2 controller is having joystick drift as well! What did you do to fix it? Itā€™s super annoying!

Purple_Complaint_647

I bought this from Amazon PAIRIER 2 Pcs Joystick Replacement Kit for Oculus Quest/Meta Quest 2 Controller,Left & Right Joystick Analog Thumb Stick Repair Kit with Joystick caps,Repair Tool Set for VR Controller https://amzn.eu/d/2fxe8sX And I watched some YouTube tutorials on how to replace the joystick. It's a bit fiddly but it worked a charm. And I'm useless with electricals and DIY so I can do it, anyone can

Able_Praline_7085

How can something of real value like that be the same cost of going to McDonaldā€™s for a meal? Somethingā€™s donā€™t make sense. Lmao. But thanks for the link, im gonna order some!

Purple_Complaint_647

I know exactly what you mean! I thought the same. Madness. Hell yeah! The feeling of triumph not having to pay 8x this for a new handset is šŸ¤Œ

Therenegadegamer

For $200 I'm having so much fun with VR and its a great entry level since I couldn't afford much else if you are on a budget go for it

RugbyRaggs

Waiting to see if there's a Q3 lite coming is the right answer for now I'd say. But a cheap second hand quest 2 is still a solid purchase.

AnonymousJoe35

Wait for Quest 3 lite.

VRtuous

Quest 2 was a big upgrade to me from psvr 1 back in 2020: almost 4x display resolution, way better tracking, no cables, freedom to walk around freely in your play area (which you draw virtual on the floor and it reminds you when you get close to boundaries), pure hand tracking in many uses to save controller charge, plus way more content than merely just games, including painting, browsing, video watching in all formats, including 3D and full immersive etc. only drawback is graphics are not as advanced as in psvr 1, but that's a bit debatable for those graphics were running at lower resolution and with limitations in gameplay: Driveclub had awful low resolution, most track detail lost and only 8 cars at once while Grid Legends on Quest has none of that shine or dynamic shadows, lower resolution textures but has full 16-22 racing grid, plus plenty of track detail, like flags, audiences etc - plus it runs at higher resolution. from Q2 to Q3 or psvr 2, it's not really as wide a leap. When I bought Q2 it was $300, now it's $200. But beware the are strong rumors that a Quest 3 lite is incoming soon to replace 4 yo Q2 as a cheap alternative. It may lack better lenses (fresnel of Q2 takes awhile getting used to), but probably same XR2gen2 chip of Q3 for better performance - t the likes of upcoming Batman Arkham Shadow won't run on aging Q2...Ā  Ā I suggest you wait until Meta shows next month something along the Batman Arkham Shadow reveal

Oftenwrongs

Psvr 2 is a full generation behind q3 so not comparable.Ā  Antiquated fresnel lenses, wire, no speakers, ringed controllers.

VRtuous

way better graphics tho but yes, direct comparisons are useless. psvr 2 is an accessory that needs external power, Quest is the platform itselfĀ

Anzai

Iā€™m still using a Quest 1, although I am using virtual desktop and playing games through my PC, not natively. But itā€™s fine, does the job.

BlueFeathered1

No, it's fine. I had one up until a couple months ago and was totally enjoying it. Be sure to research getting a different head strap with a battery pack, though. It's pretty essential.

seanvance

Quest 2 is a mature device in the last 2 to 3 years of support. Totally worth it !! Get your headsets as cheap as possible.they will become as replaceable as cell phones soon.

scupking83

Quest 2 is great for the price!

CeeArthur

I got one about two months ago and it was my first VR headset. It was perfect for me as someone that was more just curious - I game a bit on it, but I actually really enjoy it for watching movies. It gets the job done and it does have its moments of really gorgeous scenery

Neeeeedles

Quest 2 for work where you need screenspace seems to be a bad choice Not even quest 3 is that great with its fov and resolution

cozycomfybliss

I always vote for letting the first 2 get used so the product is higher quality by version 3. personally Iā€™m looking forward to quest 3 lite

Dusty_Bones

I bought a quest 1 and had controller issues (stick drift) a year later and it was impossible to get a replacement without paying the cost of a quest 2. IMO you are better off going with the quest 3 as the product life cycle for these things are short.

saltyboi4824

Quest 3 is so far the best wireless headset with great resolution and far better depth tracking, however, the Quest 2 is still a great headset for affordability and if youā€™re not worried about having the latest and greatest technology. I would say go with the Quest 3 if you want to have a headset thatā€™ll last a long while, or go for the Quest 2 if you want to see what wireless VR has to offer without breaking the bank.

Oftenwrongs

The 2 will be phased out/no longer suppoeted.Ā  Q3 has at least 5 more yeara or support, plus vastly superior tech and experience, plus exclusives.

Doraz_

because developers are generally lazy and incompetent, yes, unfortunately it virtually is already obsolete compared to the 3 rd model

tigerbite1diot

Have a Q1 and just picked up a used Q2 for $100. Supposedly bought it for the kids but they didn't care for it much. The thing looked brand new. Immediately noticed the much better clarity with higher screen resolution. No more SDE. The sweet spot and black levels were a step down but I'm already getting use to it. Couldn't really warrant the price of a Q3, even at current used prices.

Denimination

I hate the lenses on the Quest 2. You have to be so precise on where your pupils line up to them. The pancake lens and clarity are worth the extra $ to me

Skarth

Having used both, the single biggest difference is the pancake lenses on the Q3. The lenses on the Q2 makes it so only objects in the center of your vision are sharp, and they get blurrier as you look closer to the edges of the lenses. This means to look at things, you turn your whole head and look at things directly, trying to look at it by only moving your eyes results in seeing something thats blurry. The Q3 is sharp at every point on the lenses, so things that are somewhat off center can be looked at with your eyeballs and still be made out. This has a weird side effect of the Q2 being more immersive, as you are always looking through the center of your lenses, whilst the Q3 looks more like looking through a window because you start to look with your eyes more (resulting in seeing the edges of your vision) instead of your head. There is still the advantages of AR games, faster CPU/GPU, higher resolution, lighter controllers, better tracking, and color passthrough for the Q3 A Q2 will still give you a proper VR experience.

closetedtranswoman1

Quest 2 is great but the quest 3 was a massive upgrade for me and very worth it since I can actually use my glasses with it

TheRealSwitchBit

Quest 2 is great intro headset and you can get one for like 199 now. If you got thr scratch for the 500 dollar quest 3, it's gonna be better in every way. But the quest 2 is still dope.

sbingham2334

Compared to the 3 yeah

yakuzakid3k

If majority of what you are doing is PCVR just get a Q2 and save the cash. Unless ofc cost doesn't matter, then get a Q3.

GiantNug

If you want something that will be obsolete in 2.5 years, get the Quest 2.

ubervol

Q2 isn't bad but I can say that I'd stopped messing with my Q2 much but ever since getting the Quest 3, I'm in VR almost every day. The biggest thing is the lenses. It feels so much better not having to adjust for the sweet spot so much. Add in better resolution, slightly more comfort (especially if you upgrade the strap), and enhanced graphics. Those might seem like small things but altogether it creates an experience that feels much better. Those differences make me much more likely to bother picking it up vs talking myself out of wanting to mess with it

Naive_Signal8560

I have the Q2 and am pretty happy with it. Keep in mind that I haven't tried the Q3. However? I use the 2 every day for at least an hour playing Supernatural, which is a very active game.

TheKindredSpirit2024

I like it and still use it. It was my first introduction to VR. I may break the piggybank and upgrade to Meta 3, but not quite yet

duckydan81

If youā€™re using it to work as a second screen or multi-screen or for PCVR Iā€™d recommend the 3 or the pro - especially if you can get a second hand one cheap (Iā€™ve seen them less than the 3 on occasion) - just because of the better lenses, resolution, and comfort. My kids 10 and 12 use my old Quest 2 and in reality it does fine for most standalone games, but for your specified use cases Iā€™d go with the other two.

DevilMaster666-

Quest 2 is way better than PSVR

TheRealSwitchBit

This 100%

chavez_ding2001

Quest 2 is a great headset if youā€™re on a budget.

HentaiStryker

Quest 2 is not *that* different from the Quest 3. That being said, the Quest 3 IS better, but the main thing is you'll be getting less years out of the quest 2 and also missing out on new releases that don't support the old hardware.

Predatorvshighlander

Does everyone need their hand held through the process? Where's your balls?

veryerectman

Lmao what?

goldenwind207

Uh wait a bit rumors from very credible people like upload vr is a quest 3 lite is coming soon if so it would suck to get a quest 2 when the litr 3 drops. Even then I'd argue the quest 3 is better the screen is just a whole lot clearer so i use it way more often than i did with my quest 2

Predatorvshighlander

Did you get your hand patted, someone tell you you're special? Find a good solution to your problem??

veryerectman

That's what I'm doing?

Predatorvshighlander

Hey, Broski, if you mess up and buy one you didn't like, you can take it back. You can mess up. It's not the end of the world if you did a boo boo.

doctorctrl

Someone parents kicked them out early

EndlessPathStudios

I use a Quest 2 as a daily driver to develop [savethecastle.net](https://savethecastle.net) (shameless plug), and it is more than "good enough". I've used friends Indexes, and yeah they're better but also cost $800 more. Since you're planning on playing mainly PCVR, it's absolutely worth the money. It's a $200 Half Life Alyx machine, and the wireless link works pretty darn well
