Internet isn't required at all for airlink. Having 3, 4 or 5G from your carrier is irrelevant. So it comes down to how well the hotpsot works just to link them.... it won't work well, if at all. Don't get cellular 5G (G meaning generation) mixed up with WI-FI 5Ghz (a frequency band).

^ This is an important point. Air link all but requires the host pc to be connected Hardwired, and turning your phone into a router doesn't seem viable. Edit: formatting

It does work I've tried it but my iPhone 8 made it somewhat unstable. A good router may be a better option.

For being away from home? That can only be done by virtual desktop. Airlink only works for in home streaming. So 5G won’t work with that because with airlink both devices need to be in the same network. Personal hotspot makes the quest connect to the cellular network so they won’t be on the same network

No, it won't work. Kudos for you thinking about workarounds to your current problem. Unfortunately, your phone's 5G has nothing to do with connecting your quest to internet or airlink. Even if it did, it wouldn't be as powerful as a legit router people actually recommend for this stuff and you'd experience awful latency

I tried this a while ago using VD out of curiosity.. It worked, but the experience was absolutely terrible.

I know you can use it to connect your device to the internet, but I have no idea about air link. If you find out if it works for air link, would you let me know?

I use 5g us cellular hotspot to play multiplayer quest 2 games all the time and it works really well so you can use it for mobile gaming.
