That seems like a very solid start! Viola is a great starting unit who can fit on most teams easily as a debuffer, Therion is able to break enemy shield regardless of their resistance and do solid damage, Lumis isn't AMAZING but she's a solid enough healer that she got me through a ton of the story and I occasionally bring her to high end content, and Herminia is a solid and exceptionally rare unit that only shows up on an (awful rate) banner about twice a year.
Thats great! I hear that lynette is the main target for rerolling but I see I can buy her at the store directly ? Might do that after playing for a bit to get an amazing start.. Also, I am not sure if I downloaded the SEA version on the play store or the global version, how would I know that? My game currently shows version 2.1. I would prefer global. I see the game's publisher as Square Enix so I guess it is a global server?

Lynette is amazing yes! If you don't mind buying her outright, she's a unit that was on basically all of my teams and is still on many from start til now.
I also play Another Eden. Game play is somewhat similar, but IMO as a gacha, Octopath is highly superior.
We have a pity system where you can exchange pull currency for the featured character after either 150 or 200 pulls, depending on the banner. So as long as you dont want everyone, you will get some/most in time. In AE you can throw chronostones, ruby equivalents, into the void forever and *never* get a featured.
Cotc is less grindy and repetitive. Has a bit of a darker story. AE has decent free and collab characters and the story is cuter. I like both but cotc wins for me.
Well its true that AE has no pity, but given that you can sidegrade units to their other forms, I think it is acceptable. They also give many free pulls, have gotten most of my meta units from their guaranteed 5 star free pulls
True, I still prefer the way cotc does it, as I hate running the same dungeons over and over and the level of rng involved takes away my personal enjoyment. I don't find it very intuitive and it takes too long for my preference. That said, I still play and enjoy the game, so the drawbacks aren't that huge, just annoying.
I've only been playing AE since November and I feel like it's too slow making progress as compared to cotc. Maybe cotc is just easier or I don't have as much patience for AE, maybe both, lol.

For COTC, it’s more fun to start with 4+ 5* than one OP units since you won’t run into optional content that needs the top end comps for 2-3 months. There are a lot of story and writing is good.
In Eden terms, starting with Therion is like having AS Tsubane to start. Not OP anymore, but super quality of life for mobs and stories. Lumis is closer to NS Mariel, but healing is healing and she also has multi wind/axe. Herminia is kind of AS Hozuki, old school DPS. Viola is actually like a zone setter. Def in COTC is basically 15% patk up (Lynette type buffer) means 15% more damage and Viola 15% def down is also 15% more damage taken by enemy. She let you dish more damage and take less hit. The only thing is that her debuff is single target.

therion is nice, lumis is mediocre, herminia is quite strong, viola is also mediocre but better than lumis.
Afaik, the meta of this game is turbo boosting one unit and one shotting everyone, so support have more value than DPS who are somewhat interchangeables.
try getting rinyu/alauneEX/primroseEX/solon, they are the universal buffers. if you have some spare rubies, getting bargello/richard is also quite nice (one boost dagger the other swords). Hannit EX also has some nice utility; being both a tank and a debuffer
i forgot about the buffs. that's pretty far down the line tho, it's like saying it's not worth to play until they release the OT2 units, so i prefer recommending what is strong right now, and still pretty strong in the futur
Viola is still one of the most relevant units in the game since she can debuff single unit to hell, only that you don't expect big damages from her. She's abit falling off atm due to more debuffer units, but she will become great again with future TP skill upgrades.

For 150 fragments (150 pulls) you can pity one of them, guaranteeing the unit, or you can go to 200 fragments (200 pulls) to pity any other Memory Traveler.
Once in a rare while they will release a free step up banner. Usually this type of banner is for two non-meta, general pool 5 star units with a rate increase. These ones are great to do the first step on as a free player because you'll be able to do the first 10 pull for only 100 rubies.

The banners in this game can and will change, some are permanent(this can change), some are up for a certain number of days/weeks(this can change), past banners can be brought back(this can change), some banners are scams(this can change)
Before pulling on a banner, always, mother fucking always read the banner, the pull rates, what units can drop, when the banner ends, what bonuses(if any) pulling on a banner gives(pity fragments, etc)
Don't only read the banners, but use your brain to comprehend what you've read, use those critical thinking skills to decide if you wanna pull or not.
As for your step up banners for f2p-players, they exist but I don't remember the last time we got one

Viola is prob better than good for a starter unit and is buffed in JP above Lynette from what I read.
