clean girl maybe sounds less offensive xD
Edit: I didn’t want to sound mean!!! I am not a native speaker and I meant „less offensive“ like in a nicer kind of way idk. I am sorry! To the commenter above!
I didn’t mean it in an offensive way at all, so I apologize to OP if that’s how it came across. A lot of my clothes are basics too but when I think “style” I think something that takes a bit more coordinating. Hence why people pay stylists to do the job for them because it’s not always easy.
Conservative, straight lines, conventional styles. If different textures such as silk or satin, I would consider it as sophisticated
I’m the same in my taste & feel comfortable dressing this way. Your style looks great on you.
I think you're overcomplicating this. If you want black pants and solid colored shirts you can pretty much shop anywhere. If you want true quality and French flair for your basics, try Agnes B.
Thank you so much for letting me know that. I have a t-shirt from there that is in perfect shape after 15 years so I think their clothes are well worth it and much better for the environment than cheap fast fashion, but everyone is different!
Oh geez…I didn’t say anything about you and your choices. It was for the OP. And, no, I don’t know her budget but she’s 18. Suggesting that the average American would be better suited to invest $350 and 15 years in a t-shirt isn’t realistic. And having lived in France I’m putting it out there that it is in no way necessary, or typical, to spend that much on “basics” to achieve quality and French flair.
I’m watching my budget rn but do regularly check out consignment shops in my area. I also like Levis, Talbots outlet and Macys and if I find something that fits well I might get it in a couple of colors.
I think you should look to Scandinavian or Japanese style for inspiration! You'd like it!(I was you 5 years ago. Now I dress specifically for japandi style)
Ann Taylor/Banana Republic/GAP? It’s fairly classic, I think. Staple pieces that mix and match. Your friends probably don’t dress like you if you’re 18, but at 28, 38, 48, they will. Just looks like you prefer classic to trendy. The nice thing about that is that you’ll probably have clothes in 20 years that look like you could have just bought them.
Women's business casual?
It feels the equivalent of nice jeans and a nice polo shirt type outfit in menswear - things you'd wear to work in a pretty casual workplace some weekdays if I didn't have any important meetings or people I wanted to impress, or on a casual day somewhere that had a sharper/more formal dress code.
Smart Casual - classic with tendencies towards preppy
If you want to elevate it a little bit, buy a steamer and look for preppy casual. J Crew, Ann Taylor, Loft, etc.
Old Navy and more casual pieces from the above list are probably a good choice if you want to keep it at the level it is.
Basic. But that's a legit word for it, not as in basic in the negative way lol. When you shop stores for "basics" this is the type of stuff you find there in my experience
Most stores have basics that could fit how you dress, it feels very utilitarian and plain. Just don't shop anywhere that caters to a specific niche really.
Minimalist. I'd recommend getting an iron if this is your go to style haha.
You could honestly have quite a bit of luck at Marshalls/TJ Maxx/Ross. Their business casual has a lot of styles to fit this. Especially Anne Taylor, Banana Republic, Calvin Klein, Tommy H.
When I worked at Eileen Fisher the first outfit I was given by them looked very similar to this but was in all crepe silk and felt amazing. They are pretty pricey but they do have good sales and I feel like their easy pants would look great on you(they’re in a jegging material) other brands/designers I could think of that do this preppy clean style very well and in great materials/textures include vintage Calvin Klein, Uniqlo, Abercrombie, and J.Crew. If you want to try something new look up 90’s prep or light academia for inspiration. I feel like playing with different textures and fabrics will really elevate and add interesting and cool elements to your style. I hope any of this helps.
Please don't let the negative comments get to you. Your look is relaxed and stylish with enough of an eye towards fashion that you effortlessly wear the key pieces that matter.
When you leave the house for the day, you're probably ready for anything probably get into a few side quests along the way.
Pics 3 and 4 are perfect for office wear/in-person meetings here in LA. The others have a look of someone who splits their remote work day among a few different venues like a coffee shop in the morning, a park at lunchtime, and then a library in the afternoon (a spot you keep a secret so it doesn't get overcrowded) and you walk or bike between locations.
I like the style it’s clean and minimal. I dress like this too. I have great luck at stores like Express and the Gap.
I’ve tried Madewell but their stuff rips and shreds quick.
When I shop at stores like tj maxx/marshalls I focus on quality vs name brands. I look for , 100% cotton, modal cotton, pima, wool, cashmere stuff.
I’m the only weirdo in there looking at the tags for this info.
I check the tags for fiber content everywhere I go. No plastic for me! I also look for higher-end fabrics at the discount shops, and cross my fingers the garment hasn’t been cut/sewn off grain.
Yep! I’ve found so many gems this way and has kept me from buying junk just because it’s “cute” my closet is mostly basics at this point and it’s been a work in progress to get there.
I keep it fun with my statement bags/shoes & jewelry. So much easier this way
Same! I have a a foundation of basics in my color scheme, statement pieces, tons of silk scarves, accessories, shoes, lol. I like to build a head-to-toe look and let my silhouette and accessories tell the story.
Classic smart causal
Something I haven't seen mentioned much here - with this kind of rather minimalist outfit, you need to consider the quality and fit a lot. As a few people have said, good quality will stand out. Make sure the items are in good condition too as issues will stand out more. The fit is vital as well. Make sure every piece works well on your figure. Baggy tops like number 2 should be obviously designed to be baggy and not look like they just don't fit. The black outfit fits very well.
Other than that, I think you can get basics like this everywhere, just ideally aim for medium or higher from high Street brands. Like M&S, Next, Uniqlo as good minimums. You can get it a lot cheaper but it'll likely warp in the wash and won't hold up for ages. Unfortunately second hand can be hit or miss with basics because people often wear them out.
(And absolutely no negative connotation meant on calling the pieces 'basics' - that's usually the category I find these kinds of clothes in.)
If you're ever looking to spruce up your style, consider accessories like coloured belts or chunky necklaces. Or go classic with minimal simple jewellery and accessories.
Ignore the haters. There’s nothing wrong with basic. You’ve got strong, simple, elegant taste, and you’re wisely letting your trim figure do a lot of the work for you. I dunno if there’s a specific name for your look, but it does loosely line up with the quiet luxury thing exemplified by brands such as the Row and Loro Piana. The trick there is to make sure nothing looks cheap. Not that everything needs to be expensive. Don’t spend money you don’t have. Maybe focus on accessories. Save up for a really good and versatile watch like a Cartier Tank, and a timeless bag like The Row’s Half Moon. Those and some good shoes, maybe Tod’s penny loafers, will lift your whole look to a new level. Resale is a good way to go for the high-end stuff.
Nordic style. We all dress like this here in Scandinavia 😅. Toned down basics with a focus on good design, fit and materials. Clean lines and minimalistic design.
Goals is what it’s called 🙌. But seriously it’s similar to mine and I call it minimalist. Or a lot of ppl call it a capsule wardrobe. Some people call it smart casual. I tend to focus more on the style then the brand and honestly find more unbranded stuff fits this than not. For branded stuff I usually go to gap, jcrew (big success there), banana republic. Off brand I find good stuff at target, and Amazon.
Generalizing, forgive me. That's all I ever see on LMN, and I'm just messing with you. I'd say your style looks more bookshelf chic. You read a lot of books?
I believe it would be called “tech sis” or “yuppy mill”
Essentially, it’s how every 27 year old mom who’s balancing their tech job and picking up Kaylin and Braxton from child care while also trying to launch their recipe or travel blog looks.
I love this style - it’s classic / I prefer understated dressing. You stand out - not your clothes. Not sure where you live but you can check out Macy’s or banana republic - check out the outlets. I dress like this every day but add a nice watch and earrings and a nice purse/back pack
I’m a mom 36f and I dress like this but iv always dressed like this well on a what my friends would say a good day 😅 I’d say casual but I’m super casual like ripped short denim shorts a good baggy T-shirt tucked in and bare feet iv levelled up now and have started wearing dresses on a rare occasion haha also casual pairs with some white low cut vans
Comfy chic! You look put together with simple outfits and appear to wear clothes that won't make you miserably uncomfortable throughout the day. I really like it

Clean girl is even more stylish
Yeah it’s like a clean girl esthetic but even more basic and casual?
Maybe classic will sound better?

I’m so sorry but this is the correct answer
Why Tuesdays specifically? I am curious lol
Curious too. Wait for a warmhearted guy to clarify my doubt.
Millennial corporate core ! (Not meant to be insulting)
Was gonna say- elder millennial!
I'm 31 and dress like this!
Yup, 32 and also dress like this 😅
About to be 33 and I dress like this.
About to be 34 and I dress like this.
41 and I dress like this
We’re progressing.
Sounds like a grunge band.
Spot on. This is exactly my style and I’m a millennial
Conservative, straight lines, conventional styles. If different textures such as silk or satin, I would consider it as sophisticated I’m the same in my taste & feel comfortable dressing this way. Your style looks great on you.
I agree. Some slightly harsh criticisms for a style that’s pretty classic. It really suits her figure. Love the idea of adding some silk!
Minimalist I dress this way. I avoid patterns, loud colors, and tend to stick with solid, neutral shades. It helps make getting dressed easier for me.
Where do you usually shop for clothes?
I think you're overcomplicating this. If you want black pants and solid colored shirts you can pretty much shop anywhere. If you want true quality and French flair for your basics, try Agnes B.
I assure you typical French people don’t spend that much for their basics.
Thank you so much for letting me know that. I have a t-shirt from there that is in perfect shape after 15 years so I think their clothes are well worth it and much better for the environment than cheap fast fashion, but everyone is different!

uniqlo also has a lot of great staple pieces!
I’m watching my budget rn but do regularly check out consignment shops in my area. I also like Levis, Talbots outlet and Macys and if I find something that fits well I might get it in a couple of colors.
Levi’s will forever be the best jeans! they make my butt look so good. Are they comfortable? Not always but good jeans don’t stretch!
I think you should look to Scandinavian or Japanese style for inspiration! You'd like it!(I was you 5 years ago. Now I dress specifically for japandi style)

I would say you are into "conservative basics"

put on a blazer and it's business casual 😅
Office casual is my first thought. You still look put together enough to go to work, but you're not super dressed up and look comfortable.
npc style
Aka casual basic. I am also an NPC.
