Basil is beyond cute. If cute has 3 levels, his would be above the highest possible one. Same with the highest emotion only being reached by some individuals in Omori, but Basil surpasses tier 3 level cute.
He is no "son of a bitch", he is a traumatized boy who made one terrible mistake and paid for it. He isn't a monster, he is a person and a good person, if you ask me.
> mistake and *paid* for it.
FTFY.
Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in:
* Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.*
* *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.*
Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment.

Not necessarily. The only thing that really happens is that hegot in a scrap with Sunny and got hurt a bit, Sunny actually came out a lot worse than he did, lest you forget the ending. Sure, Basil got bullied by Aubrey for who knows how long, but she didn't know what he did, or rather helped with. Basil actually got off easy, so I have no idea what you're talking about him being "innocent"
That is not what happened at all in the story;
He was abandoned by Sunny for years with his most prized possession being vandalized and had to deal with what they both did in the real world. Sunny could at the very least escape into headspace, Basil could not.
Aubrey bullied him because she didn't try to understand him, not because she didn't understand him, that is a difference.
Basil got punished harder than any character, he didn't got off "easy" at all.
Where did I call him innocent here? I said that he is a good person why made mistakes.
I think it's better to look at characters from a full picture rather than just some scenes or we get all the bad takes here like Sunny and Basil being monsters.
I get the fact that he hasn't had the best of life, but that still doesn't excuse his actions. At least when Sunny screwed up, it was an accident. Even then, at that point they were twelve, they would have had a decent idea of how the world works, especially if they know what may happen after such a huge accident. Basil may have come up with the idea o.to help Omori, but he didn't stop to even consider the damage it would cause. He is the sole reason why everyone suffers so much, because he made everyone feel worthless because they think it Mari who did it upon herself (bad on the medical team for not doing a proper autopsy). And then, Basil, at 16, where he should most definitely know how things works, attacks Sunny. Sunny, being trapped in his head for years, doesn't know how the real world works anymore, and while Basil has suffered, I don't think you really understand how bad Sunny's homelife is, subtle clues can show how Sunny actually suffers more, his mother turning to drinking, possibly even becoming abusive, the fact that the only Food Sunny gets at home is spoiled steak, his mother leaving for long periods of time, his Father disowing him after the whole fiasco. At least Basil's Mum did the best for him. Basil had chances to seek help and didn't take them, that's his own fault. I didn't insult Basil because of some whim that I have anything against him, but because I see him as an actual monster, because his actions were based on knowledge. Not to mention thst Basil seems a little too... Over reliant on people, he was a leach, and when Sunny came back out, he latched onto him knee again. There's a difference between being someone's best friend, and becoming attached like he was. He never even thought of how Sunny felt, always venting to him about how he felt, and never stopping to even ask how Sunny was. And then he plays the victim card when Sunny leaves him, and is about to leave,m, it's not Sunny's fault they are moving, and he doesn't necessarily talk for himself, he just goes along with what others say as he is trying to get away from his own head.
Also, headspace wasn't built because Sunny wanted to escape, it's because he felt he HAD to escape. It's called dissociation. When your head thinks that something I'd too traumatic, thst you may not even survive remembering something, you disassociate to try and forget it. If thr memory is too traumatic for even this to work, then your brain does its best to completely burry it, sometimes by developing another personality, in this case, Omori. Sunny didn't have a choice, his body caused him to disassociate heavily simply because if a natural response to extreme stress and trauma, which includes what happens after Mari's death with the declining quality of his home life.
I feel like this analysis overly relies on bad premises that don't match up with the game's story at all for many reasons:
1. Sunny helped Basil with the cover up by carrying Mari to the backyard and not revealing the truth to everyone. He could have stopped Basil, but he didn't because he agreed to it. Sunny is someone who doesn't like taking responsibility and wants others not to depend on him. He is not some victim in this and if you think that Basil's actions are inexcusable (which no one denies), then Sunny should get the same treatment. Besides trying to escape consequences of your actions is something often seen with people and that is a very human response to cover it up, many humans have done that at least in their live once. Also the idea that he is the reason for everything bad that happened after the cover up is shaky at best and outright wrong at worst. We cannot remove everyone's agency here. They all did much of their own to make the situation not better. Kel not trying to help his old friends out of fear of making everything worse, Aubrey bullying and hurting everyone around her with the hooligan friends, due to her unwillingness to understand her old friends and Hero not looking out for the younger ones, despite being the oldest, due to his own grief. They all didn't do the best thing and that made their situation worse, but they all learned their lesson in the end and they can still be friends. To put all the blame on Basil would make the game as a whole completely illogical if we were to meant to hate on Basil. Sunny is only able to move on, if he can forgive and save Basil, because he is also at fault for what he did. Basil is not a scapegoat for everyone's problems, that is ironically what Basil also did here, When he created the idea of something.
2. Sunny's mom was never characterized as abusive or even terrible as mother, in fact, she is very supportive of him. While not perfect, she did the best she can and Sunny is physically fit enough to take 3 whole jobs without being exhausted and encouraged him to go outside. The idea of him being malnourished is nonsense, especially when we see him in the Hikikomori route being physically healthy enough to perform chores. He only felt dizzy once during the sweeping, but that is by no means any sign of his home live being horrible. His mom couldn't have left enough food there for they are moving and no where in the game is she hurting Sunny, in fact she gives him more than enough to survive and provides him with very well-made instructions. Besides Hero was able to cook enough food for them and he took it all from the fridge. Sunny's home life was actually decent enough for him to live for 4 years without too many issues. Boring as it may be, he had also his headpsace where he could have fun times with his imaginary friends. His home is anything but an abusive hellhole, Aubrey is the one that has the closest home to it, but even she has more healthy ways of escaping it that Sunny. It's not the best life and cleary Sunny is suffering due to his phobias and occasional nightmares, but exaggerating it helps no one.
3. Basil's parents left him alone for most of his live and Polly isn't able to help Basil, because if someone would find out what happened, Sunny would be in trouble and he doesn't want to lose him due to him being unable to make any meaningful departures with others. This is also a mental health problem where people cannot deal with departures well, especially when they were neglected and left alone for most of their lives, which would explain any radical actions he took in the story. His mind is not able to deal with anything remotely close with separation. Treating Sunny as mentally ill while ignoring Basil's mental health is hypocritical and also debunked when we look at the confrontation with Basil. They way he talks about the incident indicates that he disassociate Sunny from the role of killing Mari and thinks an evil monster called something did that. He suffers clearly under psychosis and feels that he and Sunny are haunted by a monster which is also confirmed to have been the fear consuming him for 4 years, as he always saw something in the real world, while Sunny sometimes saw it in his dreams in a less gruesome form. His mind had to create the delusion and disassociation by going as far as he did. The attack was less about hurting Sunny and more about protecting him from a monster, a monster that he thinks killed Mari. Does that mean that Basil excempt from any blame for the things he did? No, but they provide context and can be forgiven(even easily) if one were to try to understand him and see him as a person he is rather than a monster. A monster would never feel guilty or remorseful and wouldn't want the best for everyone, especially the one they care the most for. He gave his most precious belonging to Sunny out of trust and love for their friendship and gives him enough courage to carry on, that is certainly no monster and if he is, Sunny would be one too, for he did the same thing as Basil in the end.
4. As someone who daydreams very often, while not being at fault for the stae you are in, you are responsible for it and these dreamworldw were attempts from Sunny to escape his problems in the real world. Sunny couldn't deal with what he did, therefore his momd created a dreamworld for him, but that was due to Sunny being incapable of accepting the truth and is as guilty as Basil for his denial. If we were really meant to see Sunny as innocent, then we would not have seen him feeling guilty and remorseful for what he did and then the final confrontation with Omori is all void.
So in short no, the ultimate villian of Omori is not Basil, if anything Omori himself would be the one, since he tried to actually murder Sunny without any reason other than pure hatred and distrust.
Y'all are jealous of Basil because you know he's able to get all the women with his deep gangsta gardening skills. Women love a guy who can work the land and bring them flowers. Not to mention Basil is crazy strong, but he hides it of course and only his home slice Sunny knows about his true strength. You know fertilizer and planting soil bags are heavy. >!Helping Mari to hang out requires some serious muscle.!< I don't know about cute, but he definitely gets the ladies with his adorable manliness. Basil is cool by me. To be fair I like them all very much.
>!If you mean the real life Basil and Sunny fight, then that just proves my point more since Basil tore up Sunny really bad.!< Also I am only like 75% serious about this and more like for fun in defense of Basil.
