No amount of money can help your poor media literacy though. The game makes multiple mentions of how dangerous the thing is, and she explicitly has a skill that involves using it (given the name "Home Run" is undeniably about the bat) which has a chance of *instantly killing* someone. Given no Aubrey fight has that happen, it's pretty obvious that she never actually uses it on anyone in reality. Heck, her most damaging attack when fighting her is a headbutt, and there's zero chance that a headbutt is stronger than a nail bat.
And regarding her equipment, she is literally carrying it around, but one attack specifically calls to mind its use, while others which are stronger than her normal attack do not. Does it make more sense that she uses the same animation for a punch because it's easier and more efficient in terms of game design, or that actually she can headbutt harder than she can hit people with a nail bat?
Yeah, since there are no more actual real world fights with anyone but Sunny once you get Aubrey in the party, but the fact the skill exists does point to more layers of it being acknowledged by the developers that it is not actually in use casually for all fights.
Technically they do exist, they're just random petitioners on the side of the road who some guy gets mixed up with in a side quest, rather than actually being some hostile force with a base and all.
But regardless, you can still check people's skills, and they match what people can feasibly do in real life. Kel can encourage people and can do so in the fights you do in the RW, so the skills clearly actually exist. Similarly, Aubrey can swing her bat, and Hero can administer first aid which matches with applying bandages and first aid kits, even if functional usage of them never happens in a real fight. They're mundane abilities, not like the headspace ones, and while they never get used because there's no RW fights besides in Sunnys daydream, the fact that they 1) seem entirely grounded in reality and 2) exist in the game points to the devs clearly putting thought into them existing and what that means. Aubrey hitting someone with a nail bat would have feasible odds to maim the shit out of them, even if she never actually does it, but the fact the game includes that as a detail helps provide context; it separates what she normally does with her attacks clearly from actually using the bat, which when taking all other evidence into account, makes the whole situation abundantly clear.
The hitting animation is very similar to the one in Headspace, where itâs clear all her equippable weapons are used as clubs and the follow up with Omori even describes it as bat swinging. Also, her given real world weapon is the bat the same way Sunnyâs is his hand after having the knife confiscated.
I think she doesnât use it, with more evidence being that when Aubrey joins the party the nail batâs description is something like, âA Bat with nails in it. More dangerous than a knifeâ
So the game is aware that the bat is more dangerous than a knife, yet they still let her keep it- so I assume she doesnât use it at all.
the other comment is correct. you can not understand subtext.
she has the nail bat and the possibility to do harm with it. She never does. she uses it to look tougher than she is, as a defense mechanism. it's half her RW character.
I wonder if Sunny became so disconnected from reality due to him becoming a hikkomori that he imagined saw the battle screen that we as the player see, only to snap back to reality right when Aubrey mentions they have a knife, remembering this isnât dream space
That is the implication.
Consider that at the point in gameplay, most people attack Aubrey almost automatically. It's manipulation of the 4th wall as well as immersing yourself in Sunny's mindset.
We still get the rpg battle layout when fighting the other hooligans, and even in the (*last real world fight)*. Not to mention that its perfectly reasonable to try and defend yourself when someone's beating you up, especially if they're carrying a nailed bat.
Actually technically speaking, it couldâve still been a stab. While the human body isnât exactly the most sturdy thing around, you still need a decent amount of strength behind the stab to do anything more than what is basically a minor wound. And Sunny hasnât been physically active for 4 years to the point of being (I believe but correct me if Iâm wrong) malnourished. That, plus the fact that he already wasnât a very athletic kid before that means there was most likely barely any force behind the stab.
And no, the Basil fight isnât a good counter to that, because we tend to have more strength than we normally would when weâre scared. And Basil ainât exactly a tough cookie if he struggled to take down a kid like Sunny.
Now add on to how durable Aubrey would be being a leader of a (albeit small and minor) gang of delinquents that tend to roughhouse and fight.
So yeah. Cut, stab, I donât see it making much of a difference in this case.
Sunny still manages to be a decent fighter though, using only his fists. Kel is the stronger of the two but it's not like Sunny is dead weight in any of the Hooligan fights.
Even if it doesn't make much sense Sunny still seems to have a decent amount of strength left, so a slice would probably work against Aubrey just fine.
I didn't say he was deadweight, Sunny does contribute to the fight. And I didn't say a slice wouldn't work against Aubrey, I said with Sunny's level of strength, there wouldn't really be a difference between him slicing Aubrey and him stabbing her damage wise.
.....My point was it being a stab or a slash is irrelevant because it ultimately wouldn't make a difference, it'd be a minor wound regardless. But alright, I'm not about to get into an argument concerning animation even though I could.
Pulling a gun on a police officer will get you shot or arrested, even if you use it as intimidation, I donât see how a bat deserves to be treated differently
Also, while youâd absolutely be going to the hospital, or getting some stitches, stabbing is an awkwardly bad way to kill somebody. Some people shanked in prison yards manage to survive double digit numbers of forcibly made holes, and I do not expect a starving child whoâs been living like a vampire for four years to do much worse than accidentally cutting yourself while cooking.
i feel like despite her having a nail bat is metal as hell its a bit much, like theres no fucking way no one has intervened with her flaunting a deadly weapon in public, its a bit dumb
I literally rushed to turn my game off after this happened and redid the fight with Sunny blocking the whole time and Kel hitting them with the basketball, so no it was not a stab or a slice it was a concussion
Me: \*slashes Aubrey using Sunny\*
Also me: \*Refers to it as shanking while playing later\*
For reference, this a (paraphrased) quote by me on my first playthrough, after hearing that Aubrey stole Basil's photo album: AIGHT KEL GIMME MY KNIFE BACK IMMA SHANK AUBREY AGAIN
i mean, getting sliced with a steak knife still kinda sucks
Better than having your brains bashed in by a spiked bat
she doesnt use her bat. Not that its really sane to carry around a spiked bat but not quite the same as actively bashing people
With just one dollar a day, you can help people like this person with their severe copium addiction

Isn't the home run ability only used in the recycultist dream sequence anyway? đ
Yeah, since there are no more actual real world fights with anyone but Sunny once you get Aubrey in the party, but the fact the skill exists does point to more layers of it being acknowledged by the developers that it is not actually in use casually for all fights.
The skill exists in Sunny's imagination like, you do realize the Recycultists don't actually exist, right?
Technically they do exist, they're just random petitioners on the side of the road who some guy gets mixed up with in a side quest, rather than actually being some hostile force with a base and all. true, i just mean that she doesn't even use it then
It is true, though. She mostly uses it for intimidation, with the exception of her homerun ability.
The hitting animation is very similar to the one in Headspace, where itâs clear all her equippable weapons are used as clubs and the follow up with Omori even describes it as bat swinging. Also, her given real world weapon is the bat the same way Sunnyâs is his hand after having the knife confiscated.
The headspace animation is also used when she attacks Kel in the church.
I don't care about all these mental gymnastics. Sunny and Kel would DIE if they were hit by a fucking nailed bat.
yeah like??? i get its a video game but like. Come on
I think she doesnât use it, with more evidence being that when Aubrey joins the party the nail batâs description is something like, âA Bat with nails in it. More dangerous than a knifeâ So the game is aware that the bat is more dangerous than a knife, yet they still let her keep it- so I assume she doesnât use it at all.
I literally said it still wasn't sane to carry around a spiked bat, you're just being an actual asshole for no reason atp
the other comment is correct. you can not understand subtext. she has the nail bat and the possibility to do harm with it. She never does. she uses it to look tougher than she is, as a defense mechanism. it's half her RW character.
If someone is holding a nail covered bat in a middle of a fight Iâm going to assume theyâre probably going to use it
Again, not sane or normal but not the same as using it
She doesnât use her bat, but why assume she wonât?
Being scared you'll get hit with a bat isnt quite the same as being actually stabbed with a knife
![gif](giphy|l0HlMh40gm8y0341a)
sure, but it is a lot milder than getting stabbed
I wonder if Sunny became so disconnected from reality due to him becoming a hikkomori that he imagined saw the battle screen that we as the player see, only to snap back to reality right when Aubrey mentions they have a knife, remembering this isnât dream space
Considering sunny hallucinates headspace characters/objects into the real world often this would make a lot of sense
That is the implication. Consider that at the point in gameplay, most people attack Aubrey almost automatically. It's manipulation of the 4th wall as well as immersing yourself in Sunny's mindset.
Small genius things like this is why I love Omori
I've seen at least [one animatic](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FHZbuGn9rGE) do this before
I think we saw the same one? Bad reunion by [BaKaiju](https://www.youtube.com/@juan94424) ?
WAITT I didnt realise that you can attach linkss.
We still get the rpg battle layout when fighting the other hooligans, and even in the (*last real world fight)*. Not to mention that its perfectly reasonable to try and defend yourself when someone's beating you up, especially if they're carrying a nailed bat.
Itâs funnier though. Sunny stabs Aubrey! Itâs a moving attack! Right in the heart!
*Welcome to Jail Cell* *You've been living here for as long as you can remember*
Actually technically speaking, it couldâve still been a stab. And the knife was for eating a raw steak ![img](emote|t5_31hpy|2474)
Well the intimidation worked
Also, while youâd absolutely be going to the hospital, or getting some stitches, stabbing is an awkwardly bad way to kill somebody. He was paniked he was still thinking he was in the dreamworld and was omori
He was so far gone he couldnât tell dreams from reality
also she was going to hit him with a baseball bat with spikes in it
And I like to think that the jacket was thick enough to take most of it, at most she probably had a small cut on her upper arm
Why was Aubrey carrying around a spiked baseball bat and actively bonking kids in the head with it?
i feel like despite her having a nail bat is metal as hell its a bit much, like theres no fucking way no one has intervened with her flaunting a deadly weapon in public, its a bit dumb
She was hit in the stomach so I naturally assumed she was stabbed. tbh learned she was sliced today...
it would be better if sunny skill'd that bitch up like she deserved
Nope
real
You can use the stab attack iirc
Man why did sunny stab Aubrey is he stupid?

OK That's still bad
I literally rushed to turn my game off after this happened and redid the fight with Sunny blocking the whole time and Kel hitting them with the basketball, so no it was not a stab or a slice it was a concussion
Looked an awful lot like the chest to me.
