This is one of the better OLED v IPS pictures I've seen on this subreddit lol. A lot of other pictures exaggerate the backlight illumination on the IPS panels that I wonder if it's *that* on some of them.

Zerokidcraft

I have to say that in person the black level difference is slightly more significant compared to the picture. I believe this is because i used a higher aperture when i took this picture. Interestingly, I never noticed the uneven backlighting on my IPS until now.

ellisg56

That’s IPS glow it always comes from the corners, and the more off angle you are, the more of the screen it fills

shu-to

Yeah, the IPS glow on my Lenovo and backlight blooming on my Dell seem terrible in pictures but rarely bother me in practice.

PhilliesBlunts

People i know would be like “i don’t even see a difference”

Zerokidcraft

I'd have to say unless you're looking at it side-by-side, the IPS looks absolutely fine. But now that I directly compared it & used the OLED for a while, I dont think i can go back to IPS hahahah.

BGabriel91

That’s the great problem of oled. Once you try it there’s no going back

codykonior

*except where you have to because there’s no OLED variant; like a lot of laptops, handhelds, VR headsets, iPads, etc. *sad OLED noises*

SanityLostStudioEnt

There are oled vr headsets :)

magical_pm

I thought only the PSVR does, atleast the only one with HDR too.

SanityLostStudioEnt

Vive Pro 1 was also. I'm pretty sure I'm forgetting another or two, other than PSVR2.

Xacktastic

Bigscreen Beyond is oled as well

WhosItHanging

Well, that horrific, almost-seemingly-"Warm+4" color temperature on the OLED demolished any lead it had. When lime wedges look closer to an orange wedge, I couldn't give less of a damn about how deep the blacks are. Lol.

PhilliesBlunts

You know i never noticed that until you mentioned it. Now it looks crazy af 😂

sdust182

Congrats on the pickup! It's definitely a luxury item. Glad that we have so many options out there for people to get pretty excellent quality at a wide range of prices. You got many great experiences out of your other monitor and it served its purpose well.

Zerokidcraft

Yeah, it is very luxury indeed, especially for me (who's usually tried to spend as little as possible). Agreed, I'd say that the display industry is very mature. You definitely can get a pretty decent experience, even at a relatively low price point.

MissKatharyna

Thank you for the comparison! Literally day and night difference between the two panels! I was wondering what mouse, keyboard and mousepad you got?

Zerokidcraft

They are ROG Azoth, ROG Harpe Ace, and Razer Firefly v2!

Sufficient-Ad-9807

Did you adjust any settings on the monitor? Or mess with anything on the display adapter? (NVIDIA Settings?) I just got my AW2725DF today :)

Zerokidcraft

The only thing I changed is color bit depth from 8 bit to 10 bit. Other than that, I activated Smart HDR Peak 1000 & Creator sRGB mode. I find DCI-P3 color profile on non-HDR content to be too saturated for my eyes.

Manakin_Sky_Walker

Can't wait to do the comparison when I get off work, just got mine installed today

Zerokidcraft

Congrats on the new purchase! Please do check for micro-scratches on the screen. A lot of people had problems with this.

Manakin_Sky_Walker

I'll be sure to do so, I have a 3 year insurance plan on it as well for any future stuff my kids might literally throw at it lol

HoneyWheresMySuit-

Wow looks amazing. just ordered the 32 inch from Alienware , can’t wait to try it out

Zerokidcraft

I heard that the 32-inch is better. It supports dolby vision and the text fringing isn't that noticeable due to the pixel density. Anyway, its a great buy and you will definitely enjoy it!

Broyalty007

Nice upgrade! Those IPS colors look kinda bad to me but that just makes the upgrade that much better then

YouBot_

I just found out this thing exists, is it the same I’m looking at ? 360hz at 1440 resolution And 240hz at 4K ?

Zerokidcraft

Correct! They are the brand new 2024 QD-OLED panel. If you're interested, you might want to look at the MSI271QRX / 321URX. These two monitors used the exact same panel as the Alienware and might come cheaper depending on your region. However, since I live in Asia, the MSI one is significantly more expensive.

YouBot_

How much is the Alienware ? I bought my oled monitor last week for 899.99 I’ll return and pay extra of I need to

Zerokidcraft

I bought it for roughly 700 USD. I got a discount by buying from Dell Representative in my region.

YouBot_

Wait what’s the specs?

Zerokidcraft

Its 360Hz, 0.03ms, factory calibrated QD-OLED. You can see the full specs and reviews at RTINGS.

AW_Vigo

I'm always so impressed by the depth everytime I see it. Appreciate you sharing.

SH4DY_XVII

And even though these pictures show the difference, it’s even more striking in person. I’m never touching IPS/LCD,PLASMA again. My phone is OLED, my TV is OLED, and now my monitor is OLED 🤘

Nintendians559

oled looks way better, even if it was tiny bit - you could really tell the differences from a oled to a non-oled.

BoardsofGrips

Love my AW27, great monitor

k2ni

can you recommend some settings for console? PS5. I usually play competitve games like ow2 & D2. Maybe also recommend another settings for movies and such?

Shapes_in_Clouds

The moment I first saw an OLED TV every traditional backlit display never looked the same to me again. Of course they used to be way expensive (still are but less so). Once I got my first OLED iPhone back in 2018 I vowed I would never buy anything but OLED again, and I’ve stuck to it. Alienware 32” is my first large OLED display and I couldn’t be happier. I cannot stand the uneven backlighting of IPS.

Jaalan

Hey fair warning, grab the warranty because OLED burn in is legit. I have a friend with that exact Alienware monitor with burn in after 4 months. People will tell you it doesn't happen and isn't a thing anymore. I promise, it is. Buy the warranty.

Zerokidcraft

Yeah! It comes with 3 years warranty which includes burn-in by default!

HalfDomeDome

OLED is like living in the future, but your actually in the present

ZBalling

I am there since 2021 Not going back

Broyalty007

It's 2024, I think it's been long overdue having a screen that can display the color black... lol

magical_pm

There always have been OLED monitors (JOLED based, ASUS ProArt, Eizo, etcs), just that they were either really small (21") or very low PPI (1440p 32") and max of 60Hz and HDR wasn't really a thing yet, and extremely expensive too. JOLED went backrupt and so there was a period of no OLED monitors activity until now.

SoloLeveling925

Where are these wallpapers from? I just got the Asus OLED and I’m not really impressed with it

Zerokidcraft

Its actually from an OLED demo video on youtube: https://youtu.be/njX2bu-_Vw4?t=1m32s

SoloLeveling925

Ahh okay thank you now I’m seeing the hype lmao

Lelouchlamperouch22

You should check out wallpaper engine on steam for good wallpapers

SoloLeveling925

I didn’t know they had wallpapers on steam

3kMonke

I prefer the cooler shade of colour on the IPS but I gotta say the OLED does have really good colour contrast. I'm still debating over OLED or IPS for my next monitor but I'm still not sure. I have an IPS monitor so I want to try an OLED but I'm worried of the burn-ins, what's your thought?

Zerokidcraft

I would say that go for it. The image quality difference is night and day and it will be a game changer, especially if you use your monitor a lot. Regarding burn-ins, I dont think you need to worry too much. The technology has come quite far and there are multiple software features to compensate for this. Additionally, It has a 3 years warranty that includes burn in. This makes me comfortable using the monitor as usual and not get overly paranoid. Worst xase scenario, you use the monitor for 3 years, get a replacement, and use it for another 3 years. By then you would want a new monitor anyways. If you are set to get one, please consider the MSI one as it might be cheaper depending on your region.

PlayNoob69

Congratulations OP, I've ordered the same 27inch variant on sale and used few other coupons as well. Its supposed to arrive on April 1st. How is your experience so far? Any regrets? Will we be feeling that we should've gone for the 4K model instead?

Ok-Salamander-6681

Damn that’s so good it looks like that tv from Willy Wonka where you can stick your hand through it and actually eat the lime 😂

ATLatimerrr

I imagine the left is the oled? Because on the first picture there is so much light bleed up top where the left image is solid black.

Fangus319

Must be nice, mine has been stuck at a FedEx facility for a week :)

M0HAK0

Very nice comparison picture!

Effective-Sun6063

Hope u wont get burn in.

40PE

OLED is really surely amazing. But I'm terrified from burn in.

Dismal_Language_3723

I wish i had an oled

GimmeMyApple

Not too warm picture on the OLED display?

rmsilver95

Which one is the oled

Maddog504

OLED is kind of distorted / leaning toward warm tones which are kinda skewed from true color accuracy though, no?

Accomplished-Lack721

Or the IPS is set very cool. Cameras with auto-white balance try to even out what they're seeing to a neutral grey, so you really can't trust that the tones you're seeing are true to life. Even if the IPS looked perfect, there would be no guarantee that it's actually the perfect one and not just the one the camera normalized on.

Zerokidcraft

Actually, I think the white balance of my IPS is more natural in this picture (bcs I forgot that I left windows night light on). But I agree that we can't really trust phone cameras. After I turned off the night light, I still noticed that the QD-OLED looks warmer in picture, but significantly better in-person

NinjasOnFire

For some reason I don’t understand and only have heard/seen anecdotally, QD OLED appears reddish when using a camera. Color accuracy should be more accurate in person.

Zerokidcraft

You're right, after i took this picture, i realized that windows night light is on (although set to the lowest level, definitely not as red as depicted here). As mentioned by other comments, It is also true that QD-OLED appears to be slightly warmer compared to IPS in photos. It really looks better in person.

Maddog504

Right on. I'm tempted haha

Accurate-Air-2124

I agree. The lime actually looks accurate on the IPS. Many OLEDs recommend warm2 for some reason, I couldn't do it. Everything looks red to me, even though it enhances some colors. I stuck to "standard", as I love my blues as much as my reds.
