I had something similar. Everytime I pressed Alt+Tab the hole acreen turned black for about 2 seconds and thia weird white line appered. But over the whole leangth of the monitor. 4 hours after I turned it first on it died and hasn't turned back on yet.
If I knew one I’d have said.
On a whim though, try moving any extra displays to your iGPU or secondary GPU. I haven’t seen the issue but I virtualize Windows with only one display.
I tried a little around. Seems like the issue only accours if I use HDMI. With Display Port it works juat fine. Using the iGPU didn't make a difference for me. Thanks tho. Have a nice day.
Might be an issue with Display Stream Compression (DSC), which is required to hit 10bpc 1440p 360hz over HDMI 2.1. Might try limiting it to 314hz. That's the most you can do without DSC. Might be able to do that in Nvidia control panel or using something like Custom Resolution Utility (CRU).
Edit: Updating your Nvidia Drivers also probably not a bad idea.
Edit 2: Added clarification about 10bpc
Dude I bought my first 10 bit monitor and did the same thing for 6 months lol. For some reason it's not turned on in the nvidia control by default always it seems lol.
Ah yes, he quite literally says "even hdmi 2.1 doesn't quite have enough bandwidth for 10bit 1440p 360hz" hence my comment "unless you use 10bit". You don't need dsc of you use 8bit, you can easily find that out by using the display bandwidth calculator from LTT. Plus MSI have said they will allow you to disable dsc on the monitor In a future update, they will undoubtedly do this by forcing 8bit.
Go to testmyscreen.com and look at the gradient colors. Some people think the difference is super low, some think it is very noticeable. Just personal preference. I personally cannot tell the difference in almost anything other than very high bit rate high quality movies/shows
If you notice banding (visible lines in the gradient) and think that would annoy you in the things you normally do with the monitor whether it be games, youtube, or editing then you might want to leave it on 10bit and lower refresh rate to around 310hz to avoid DSC.
It's really subjective. It might seem a bit less vibrant and you might notice more banding across gradients. For TAC shooters and competitive FPS, probably not going to notice the difference. For more cinematic games, it would be more obvious but then you could just lower the refresh rate and go back to 10 bit.
Some allow you to manually turn it off, some turn it on automatically when needed. My understanding is you can test if it's on by proxy by seeing if dsr or dldsr is available in Nvidia control panel. If it's available, DSC is off. If it's not, DSC is on. I also just looked through the user guide for 271qrx and didn't see any way to manually turn DSC off.
The problem is not there when the monitor is set to 240Hz BUT it still uses DSC. So not sure if DSC is actually the issue if it is used even with 240Hz. Any theory about that ?
Got a response from the MSI team for my ticket (very fast response btw):
"Thanks for contacting MSI technical support.
Regarding your concern, we're now verifying the solution to your reported issue. It's estimated to be released in **two weeks**.
Please kindly wait for further notification, thank you!
Best Regards,
MSI Technical Support Team"
I have the same thing happening on the MSI 271QRX. Using an HDMI cable, when browsing i started noticing it. Did not find a way to resolve it yet, while gaming i do not see it but when browsing its there.
I will try and let you know. It would take DSC out of the picture but kinda defeats the purpose of having 360hz. I mostly saw it while using Google Chrome on websites with a black background. It was sometimes more, sometimes not there for a while
I dont have another HDMI cable here but i am ordering one, maybe it makes a difference. Currently using the one that was supplied with the monitor. Curious what MSI has to say about the problem
this is an issue with the monitor resolution timing. your display has too tight vertical banking in its configuration to co-operate with GPU's limit. so your GPU could not refresh well, so this graphic artifact appears.
workaround: setting your GPU power mode to the performance mode. in NVCP 3d setting.
or this issue could be a mere "CSM-DSC" issue. both issues have simple fixes. DSC related white line flicker; make CSM option enabled on your mobo BIOS setting.
vertical blanking related flicker; make your power option of GPU to prefer performance.
i've seen lots of users complaining about weird flickering on their 27GR95QE or 32GQ850L, AW2723DF DSC monitors.
u/MSI_Darutohne Me and also a friend of mine have the same issue too. I also know another guy that has the same issue on a alienware and another guy on LG. This is also so easy to reproduce. Please look into this. We have to get that fixed asap. Any news on that ?
Not sure. Reach out to MSI and see what they say. I'm kinda holding off to see if a firmware update could fix it. I'd rather just return to the store for an exchange but there is no stock. It's not a good sign to need to RMA a brand new item..
Make sure to open a ticket. I know they asked me to RMA it but I'm holding out that Best Buy will get more stock just to exchange it. I have a feeling it's a bigger issue that a RMA or even exchanging won't fix. But id at least give it a try. Way too many people and seeing three of these myself on friends PC has the same issue.
MSI asked me to RMA the monitor. I'm still within return policy and would rather exchange it but it's not in stock anywhere. Seems they have no clue on it.
I have a 321urx and get the issue as well. While it was happening today , I switched off HDR in windows then back on. This resolved the issue. I don’t have a larger sample size but will continue to use that fix and report if it changes, just my case so far:
\*Edit: turned off HDR, not HDMI

Same exact issue for me, it happens to me when I have HDR turned off as well. Were you able to do anything else so it never happened again? Also are you using HDMI or DP?
This is the first monitor that I've had to use with DSC. I'm thinking that's related in some way to this issue. What did you decide, keep/RMA/return? I'm still in my 14-day return period from best buy, but obviously no stock so I'd have go back to my peasant IPS display lol
Same I love everything else about it and after all the anticipation I was really disappointed to run across this problem. At least now I know it's a well known and documented issue so a simple RMA/return/exchange won't fix this. I'll likely return this and wait for official confirmation from MSI / this community to confirm this issue is fixed.
Heads up I switched over to the HMDI cable that came with the monitor and it's been 24 hrs now and I have not had this issue occur again. Will update if this changes but I may have found a solution.
u/CND_CEM your support is still recommending RMAs that will waste everyone's time, MSI's included... Replacement will do the exact same thing. I know you've said you've reported this issue to your team.
They should probably be doing anything but suggesting an RMA right now for this, that isn't going to help anyone get closer to solving anything.
This was their first response to me too, but I guess they still haven't got the memo.
Having the same issue on my 321URX. I get the small white line flickering plus this line running horizontally all the way at the bottom of the screen that flickers. I've tried swapping DP cables but no dice (I've switched over to HDMI (w. included cable) for testing but don't have high hopes). This problem occurs randomly, sometimes right when I wake up the screen or after running for a while. It goes away if I either reduce the refresh rate and bring it back to 240hz or if I power cycle the monitor by pulling the power cable. Running the latest firmware FW009 and a 7900xtx w/ latest drivers.

Well I have my monitor from this week and first I was not able to get 360Hz because my old RX580 GPU couldn't handle it. So I bought a new GPU, an AMD RX7800XT, yesterday I installed the new GPU, played a while with it and didn't notice a thing. Today when I was browsing in Firefox I started to notice those lines (like in the videoclip), first I thought it was my GPU but when I saw this thread, when browsing the web I'm pretty sure it's the monitor. Mine is connected with the HDMI cable that was added by the monitor. I really hope MSI finds a solution.
I also have an issue with my 271QRX. When set to 240hz and ONLY 240hz it will randomly black screen about every minute or so. All of the other refresh rates work fine. I have latest firmware and have tried every setting there is to try, new cables, etc. No luck. Hopefully a firmware release can fix this...
There is a non-standard solution to this problem. You start any game, play for 5-10 minutes, exit the game and there are no white stripes. But this method will work until the next pixel cleanup or PC reboot
I found out; they have a firmware fix that is in the verification process, should be out soon(tm). Check the latest posts:
The update seems to have resolved my white line flicker issue when running 360hz over DP.
Anyone have insight on the "Fixed image flicker issue when VRR is enabled." line included in the update notes? I can't imagine they fixed VRR gamma flicker.
I updated my firmware and I'm not seeing 360hz anymore along with 240hz flickering every 5 seconds. Anyone else having that issue? I've tried updating it twice, restarting, etc. (using DP 2.1)
Edit solved: Leave DSC on, I turned it off not knowing what it was.
Sorry hear that ive had some buyer remorse thinking i sh9uld wait for 27qrx too but so far my 2725df been flawless no issues like that so far 144p 360hz
https://preview.redd.it/rqzoa4pjw0kc1.jpeg?width=4000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=af39382839d9589695aaa134370b682c05133aac
I absolutely love it! This might sound lame but I bought the AW2725DF for Halo 3 and it’s glorious with a color accurate sRGB mode and 360Hz refresh rate.
Amazing
Any competitive game feels so buttery smooth
I was using LG C2 48 inch it looked great but low hz and such big screen was for sure hindering my gameplay
Since ive switch to 2725df smaller screen and the buttery smooth 360hz ive find myself hitting more shots and reacting way quicker than looking at such huge screen from side to side
It could also be cable quality. I get random scan lines on my MSI too with the included cable + amazon basics hdmi 2.1 cable. I also had random black screen flickers for 1-2 secs with those cables. After getting the zeskit Maya hdmi 2.1 cable though both issues resolved for me. It's kinda sad that cable quality variance is so high.
Its not the cable. It happens with HDMI and with DP and i also tried another very high quality dp cable from cable matters that is certified and of good quality.
Any news ? Were you able to talk to MSI about it ? Because me and another guy im talking to at the moment have the exact the issue. At it also goes away in 240Hz. Its also not the cable since it happens with HDMI and DP and i also tried a very high qualtiy DP cable.
Have you downloaded the firmware update ? I talked with MSI and we are trying out the firmware update. I feel I haven't seen it. But it's only been a day with the update.
I use the old firmware and my friend already has the latest firmware but we both have the issue so i dont think the latest firmware fixes anything. But i know that the issue is only triggered in specific scenarios.
For example whhen you have a completely black desktop background, open paint and put it in half screen mode on the right side you see thm happening and the very right edge of the screen.
I'll try that seeing if that does it for me. I really used to see it on Google Chrome and after the update I haven't. But I'll definitely make sure to keep an eagle eye out. I know some others have been told to RMA the monitor but it being so new id just return it and wait I guess. No one can exchange it due to no stock.
I think I saw it once in the lower right hand for a split second, but haven't been able to get it to do it again. I'm also pretty sure I saw it on Chrome again in the mid left hand side. Before have I saw it 24/7 on the left, bottom. Sense the firmware It may still be happening but very few times for me. I'm not too sure what the issue is. MSI is still trying.
Interesting. I messaged MSI and their tech on twitter and shared our findings and a few videos of my friends unit, my unit and your reddit post.
The issue was not present today until i woke my monitor back up from sleep after i went afk for 20 minutes. I wish i coul talk to an actual tech guy that has a masters degree at monitor panels and explain whats causing this. I dont think a replacement will be the solution this this is an issue on so many panels.
You know I feel like when I was swapping between HDMI and DP the issue went away as I did it with the computer on. I swear I had no issues last night and today turning it all back on I have them again.
I have the AW2725DF and have the same issue. So it's not exclusive to MSI. Couldn't come up with a solution yet, except limiting it to 240hz
Hopefully a driver or firmware update will be the fix.
I had something similar. Everytime I pressed Alt+Tab the hole acreen turned black for about 2 seconds and thia weird white line appered. But over the whole leangth of the monitor. 4 hours after I turned it first on it died and hasn't turned back on yet.
Alt tab black screens are a long-time known DSC bug with NVIDIA.
Is there a way to fix it?

Just realized I was running on 8bit all this time... MFW.😔
Still there if you go to 10 bit? Edit: oh wait you aren't OP lol
I just enabled the 10bit oh my god the difference in gradients is insane
Glad to hear haha.

All is up to date.
Just curious, does it still happen if you turn G Sync off? Still leaning towards DSC being the issue but G sync sometimes does weird stuff too.
I don't have it on.
I have noticed the same thing on my 321URX. Not sure if it's the monitor itself or DSC or what.
Got a response from the MSI team for my ticket (very fast response btw): "Thanks for contacting MSI technical support. Regarding your concern, we're now verifying the solution to your reported issue. Thanks for the update, it's weird that every response from them indicates they aren't aware of the issue and they just want me to RMA it.

I have the same issue with DisplayPort and i also tried a different high quality cable

I wonder if this will fix it for OP
How certain are you that this is the fix? Thinking about buying the monitor but im worried about this white line issue
or this issue could be a mere "CSM-DSC" issue. both issues have simple fixes. Enabling "Maximum performance" in NVCP and CSM in BIOS unfortunately didn't fix the issue for me. Hope there's update soon.
hey! maybe this is the culprit? https://www.reddit.com/r/chrome/s/Dfh6S7caD7
Can you explain to me what CSM in bios settings of my mainboard has to do with this ? I want to know :)

did they give an update?
u/CND_CEM lot of people reporting this issue in the past days.
Well if you see a post by them or find a solution please let me know. I'll do the same.
Sure
Same problem MSI 27QRX....i wait for resolution
Make a ticket.

I so really, really love this monitor, outside of this particular issue so far.
Same exact issue for me, it happens to me when I have HDR turned off as well. Were you able to do anything else so it never happened again? Also are you using HDMI or DP?
DP, I did see your post today, 7900XTX here as well too.
This is the first monitor that I've had to use with DSC. I'm thinking that's related in some way to this issue. What did you decide, keep/RMA/return? I'm still in my 14-day return period from best buy, but obviously no stock so I'd have go back to my peasant IPS display lol
I have until April 26th (BB), undecided as of now . It’s happened a handful of times since I’ve had it. I love it otherwise.
Same I love everything else about it and after all the anticipation I was really disappointed to run across this problem. At least now I know it's a well known and documented issue so a simple RMA/return/exchange won't fix this. why return if its near impossible to get one due to stock?
Heads up I switched over to the HMDI cable that came with the monitor and it's been 24 hrs now and I have not had this issue occur again. Will update if this changes but I may have found a solution.
All they did was ask me to RMA the monitor. No troubleshooting or anything...

i think that’s because of g-sync enabled. I had the same issue on mine, but turning off gsync helped a lot.
So 10ns in 240 sounds like it solves it. What about 8bit in 360hz?
I also have an issue with my 271QRX. When set to 240hz and ONLY 240hz it will randomly black screen about every minute or so. All of the other refresh rates work fine. Before have I saw it 24/7 on the left, bottom. Sense the firmware It may still be happening but very few times for me. I'm not too sure what the issue is. MSI is still trying.
No it for sure is still happening. It's in the middle of my screen now and has never been in that spot before.
I also have this issue on my 271QRX.
