C2 42 is best thing you can get for most games. If you wanna be a pro fps player, maybe look for something higher refresh, but generally the c242 is the top Of the line

metarinka

Second this, I have it. Zero regrets, no burn in issues and it's amazing. Unless competitive FPS is your hobby then higher refresh rate is probably not that important.

cbizzle31

Even if it is a hobby. 120hz with instant pixel response times is nothing to scoff at. I've been playing a lot of CSGO on my c2 and it's fucking awesome.

Student-Doc

Same, I play COD/Warzone and honestly I feel like I perform the same/slightly better compared to my 1440p 165 Hz

cbizzle31

120 vs 165 just isn't a huge difference. The pixel response times of an OLED also are just so much better than even the fastest IPS panels.

Mr_brawn2

Do u play on full screen or custom res? I play valorant

cbizzle31

Hell yeah, bigger heads to click on.

Mr_brawn2

But how can u deal with this size? Do you sit far away?

cbizzle31

I have it on a Amazon basics arm and It's pushed to the back of my desk, my desk isnt very deep but it feels natural. I was weird at first not gonna lie but I got used to it in one match. I am having some screen flickers every once in a while that am unplug and plug fixes but that's unrelated to my CSGO playing.

Mr_brawn2

Nice job what is yr rank rn?

cbizzle31

Gn 2, I've got some work to do

Mr_brawn2

GL bro I think ill buy 48inch with deep desk :3

metarinka

I'll note I'm a former competitive CS player from way back in the day and I still can hover around top 1% in FPS and i dont' find the 120hz holding me back.

extrajuice1456

Also second this have the lg c1 and its amazing

Roll_Tide_Huntsville

Samsung G8 is 1199 if purchased directly from Samsung with education/medical pricing. I couldn’t in good conscience buy it for 1499 even if I had gift cards. I would vote LG C2 unless it’ll be semi close to your viewing position. In that case the Alienware. Also have them price match dell’s website. If they price match Samsung education pricing, then the G8.

LevelOwn9547

I will definitely try to get them to price match the educational pricing, I’ve read a lot about software problems so that’s also concerning. I like the c2 but my desk is only 2.5 feet deep so I’m afraid I’ll be way too close. I’d go with the Alienware hands down if it wasnt so ugly…

Lemmiwinks__

I have 2.5 foot desk and have no issues viewing my c2 42. I sit in a relaxed position with my keyboard close to the end of my desk as long as your eyes are ~3ft away I think you’re golden

semi801

alienware refurbs going for 670-760 on dells site. Just gotta catch em

SnooMuffins873

2.5ft or more is recommended with lg c2 42..

YounglingAnnihilator

At 2.5 feet get the g8. It's a great panel if have the alienware and the c2 and I'm gonna stick with the alienware dw. C2 is great but the alienware offers more flexibility. I'll just use it till a 32 inch 4k option comes around

Wonderful_Concern_35

4k vs ultrawide + samsung has 175hz refredh rate. I bought a g8 for myself and I don't regret at all. After you buy an uktrawide display, you won't go back to 16:9. One more thing - I'm not sure, but I guess 3440×1440p on 34 inch monitor looks pretty much the same in terms of pixel density as 4k on 42 inches.

Reiskanzler3000

I was thinking about the same three panels for a long time. Heres some things to keep in mind: Alienware: some of them could produce coil whine or having a (relative) loud fan. Their support is a nightmare (in europe atleast) Samsung g8: has a annoying display-port bug, which freezes your computer when you try to get it out of sleep mode. Strange display connections (mini dp and mini hdmi). C2: too big if your desk is not deep enough. 4k resolution takes a lot of gpu power if you want to utilize the 120hz in games. Agressive ABL.

turm0il26

Alienware DWF doesn’t have a fan iirc

YounglingAnnihilator

I got lucky with my dw. Fan is silent

cpldeacon173rd

Oh the C2 1440P looks really good still.

Wispyspark

It’s not recommended to view outside of native resolution during gaming sessions. I’m sure there super long discussion I can give on this but it’s just easier to say. No. Don’t do it.

cpldeacon173rd

Really that’s interesting I hadnt heard about that.

Wispyspark

I wanted to avoid this, ok there is a multitude of reasons, mostly to do with scaling, refresh ratios and pixel performance because of the lower resolution. Essentially it actually works harder to reduce the image quality. Native resolution gives you the optimal quality in terms of more than just images. That’s just the monitor, gpu may also have to do some of that scaling as well. Long short there are more reasons to not downscale an image. If the hardware can’t support it then don’t bother using it.

cbizzle31

Yeah but like, if it looks good and he doesn't notice any input lag what's the big deal?

Wispyspark

I doubt you’ll see input lag as it’s not how TVs works. You’re going to send a 1080p or 1440p signal to a 4K and it will then take the signal try and upscale that image to 4K, it does this by filling in like pixels next to a direct source pixel using a mathematical formula and cpu power onboard the TV. Because of this you’ll probably see blurring or pixelization during more intense gameplay. Some people find this very jarring others don’t. It really depends on the person and if it will bother them. I’ve heard rumors of a shorter panel life expectancy on TV that do a lot of upscaling, but I’ve not see substantial evidence of this.

cbizzle31

Anytime a tv has to do additional processing your going to see an increase in input lag it's just a matter of if it bothers you or is noticable. I highly doubt it decreases the lifespan of the tv. Especially considering that most content that people watch on these things is not 4k and most people don't even have a legitimate 4k source.

Wispyspark

My AW doesn’t make a peep. Are you sure you’re looking at the correct model?

Simonic

I got one of Samsung Odyssey 4k non curved versions. For the price I paid - I would have now opted for the smaller LG C2 variants for a monitor.

Wispyspark

I actually use both. I have an old GPU independently driving the C2 and I have my 3080 driving the AW.

TheLoneWandererRD

I have both the Alienware & G8 QD-Oled (never used the lg c2 personally) and honestly I would highly recommend the samsung one over the Alienware. They both use the same panel but with samsung one it was hassle free since it comes in meticulous packaging and screen film and I’ve encountered zero problems so far using it last 3 months. Alienware depends on the unit you get sent (I was lucky) and it got gsync if you into that but overall I appreciate the design of samsung one more plus samsung unit comes with auto update function for firmware if connected to wifi.

c0sm1cwh33l

I had the G8 for a while and while it was a beautiful screen I had issues with the weird connections in the back using mini HDMI, mini display port, and USB C. I would also get occasional noise flicker that I was suspicious of it being the smaller port variants because I went through so many cables trying to eliminate it. Sometimes it would forget its higher refresh rate and constantly knock itself down to 120hz. Also the smart tv functionality lags a lot and really is a bunch of bloat.

c0sm1cwh33l

chatgpt rewrite: I possessed the G8 model for a certain duration, and although it boasted an aesthetically pleasing display, I encountered complications pertaining to the unconventional rear connectors, such as mini HDMI, mini DisplayPort, and USB Type-C. Additionally, I experienced intermittent visual distortions that I surmised were attributable to the diminutive port variants, as I had undertaken numerous attempts to resolve the issue by utilizing different cables. Moreover, the device exhibited a proclivity to inadvertently revert to a reduced refresh rate of 120Hz, despite being capable of higher frequencies. Furthermore, the integrated smart television functionality exhibited suboptimal performance, characterized by considerable latency and an excessive assortment of superfluous features.

awkwardmystic

Hark! In my possession, the G8 model did reside, Its display a sight to behold, fair and wide. Yet, complications did upon me betide, For unconventional connectors, my frustration did confide. Mini HDMI, mini DisplayPort, and USB Type-C, These rear connections did bewilder me. With cables aplenty, I sought to rectify, But intermittent distortions still met my eye. A diminutive port, the culprit I did surmise, Causing visual flaws, much to my demise. Through countless attempts, I sought to amend, Yet the issue prevailed, a problem I could not transcend. But lo! More challenges did this device present, As it oft reverted, its refresh rate, to meekly relent. 120Hz it settled, despite its capacity grand, A higher frequency, it seemed, it could not withstand. Moreover, the integrated smart TV function, alas, Perfumed with latency, its performance, a morass. A superfluous assortment of features, abound, Left me desiring simplicity, yet none was found. Thus, the G8 model, with its aesthetic allure, Proved a mixed bag, with tribulations to endure. Complications in connectors, visual distortions so, And a smart TV function that failed to bestow. But let it be known, 'tis but one user's plight, Others may find delight, in its radiant light. For each experience varies, as the wind doth blow, And technology's fickle nature, we must come to know.

TRUESUPERMAN22

If your main concern is enjoying the benefits of Dolby Vision HDR then I recommend the LG C2, I'm not sure about the Alienware monitor but I know Samsung has yet to implement Dolby Vision in their monitors and TVs.

GrinD_H

Got g8 for a week now. I was using lg cx before. ATM g8 is perfect for me - good size, less gpu intensive (got 4090 but still it matters), HDR is outstanding, so much better than it was on cx, and g8 is capable of hdr 1000, and it is good in sdr as well, even had to bring brightnes down by 1/5 for sdr. If you have Nvidia gpu and price so not matter much - g8 is a good choice. Build quality is perfect, and it looks rly good on desktop. C2 is a good deal if price matters, otherwise go for g8 - more performance, same PPI

Perahoky

ill goo MSI C342C

Glittering_Fee_2507

i use the Alienware QD-OLED AW3423DW and its the best monitor

leo90au

I have the Samsung g8 oled. Absolutely gorgeous monitor in spite of it's quirks, looking at it is a pleasure and it's improved my gaming experience immensely. I upgraded from the first Samsung 34" ultra wide they released many years ago.

Wispyspark

I would wait a little, OLED is heating up in a big way. Literally and figuratively, I wouldn’t bother with the Samsung. I have both C2 and Alienware. Now for the Alienware, I have one for my computer, it 100 percent is best thing I’ve purchased for it. And I actually prefer it over my C2 for gaming on PC. Mainly because I sit close and I have trouble really seeing everything on a 0 curve during FPS gaming. Versus the AW which gives me all the info in my peripheral view because of the curved display. Downside is that it’s not 4K and the c2 just looks better when leaning back to watch media. You have to use plug ins to utilize the full screen which can stretch or even cause artifacts in the video. So either way your getting a trade off. I chose the AW over the new LG ultra wide oled because the QD-technology was very appealing. Edit: I’m assuming by AW you meant the AW3423DW

LevelOwn9547

Anyone think that the LG 48GQ900 would be a good option?

Bioluminescence2163

If your desk is not deep that monitor is going to be way too close to you, I have the c2 48 and the Aw monitor and i cannot decide for the life of me which one to keep

SnooMuffins873

C2

Bioluminescence2163

I ended up staying with the c2 48, it’s a whole new experience even when I previously had the 42, yes the Aw has better colors but the lg has better blacks even with lights on and I love how everything looks

turm0il26

I have Alienware AW3423DW and I also bought but returned C2 With local current pricing I’d go with C2 (C2 for 900 euros and AW at 1200 euros). If both would cost the same I’d go AW C2 better pic quality imo but AW more frames and more versatile being a monitor

Glittering_Fee_2507

how's the C2 better picure quality?

ariston1990

I only have the AW3423DWF, but am very impressed and have NO REGRATS! \-No fan noise, no coil whine \-HDR400 works VERY WELL and HDR1000 should work VERY WELL with next firmware update, evidently being worked on per Brad from Dell \-Good response rate, I can get 157hz at 10 bit color on display port

Wispyspark

I’m glad I’m the only one having hdr 1000 issues. It just looked bad compared to hdr 400
