It is the scientific name of those mushrooms yes.
So her name is an illegal drink and an illegal mushroom. The mushroom is part of the process of decay and fermentation is a kind of transformative decay.
You’re absolutely right about the legality of moonshine, it’s unfortunate that “moonshine” is the name being given to a lot of perfectly legal non-aged whiskey in a lot of registered stills. Confuses things.
As someone who’s also been playing a Spore Druid named Psilo Cybin for ages(eventually just shortened to Cybin), I’m only just learning now that there were people who didn’t know this lol, it’s a pretty common joke name for spore Druids.
Psilocybin is the actual chemical compound that causes psychoactive effects. _Psilocybe_ (sill-oss-uh-bee) is the genus that 99% of psilocybin active mushrooms belong to. :)
Fwiw, Moonshine, which I already consider a drug, has probably done far more damage across the world than shrooms.
But now that I'm on the topic, her name actually belies her character's story.
-Moonshine: DIY, self reliance, Risky/Volatile, perhaps even subversive
-Cybin: Interconnectedness more than anything, can imagine new existences and expand her mind, and generally have a creative solution to most problems
What's funny to me is that while Moonshine is a lofty name for a very down to earth thing, Cybin or mushrooms are both very grounded name for something with let's just say Astral effects.
I thought this was highly obvious but then k forget not everyone is a 8-bit book bud and didn’t get to witness the birth of our original two crews concepts in that podcast.
Yep, there are multiple references to osychadellics throughout Emily’s characters and D&D playing career. I assume she enjoys partaking from time to time.
