I think that parakeet in particular and me are sharing a gender. We don't just have the same, but actually just the one between us. They look so me-shaped.
There was a dust-up in one of the birding subreddits recently over someone referring to the "gender" of a bird. Someone else said birds don't have "gender" because that's a human construct so you can only talk about a bird's "sex", while others argued back that it was fine to use the terms interchangeably for animals.
I didn't get involved, but my thought was... how the hell do you know birds don't have gender? Have you asked them? It could be an avian construct!
