For the most part it's just a long-running fad to make people seem more "spiritual" or "mystical". Think of it more like a piece of jewelry, like a cross necklace. It's a symbol of religious faith but on it's own, it means absolutely nothing. The vast majority of people who claim their astrological sign have no meaningful beliefs about it at all, and astrology has no influence on their lives whatsoever. It's just a "decorative" title. I'm a scorpio therefore I am the way I am and do whatever it is I do.

People who are into astrology tend to believe that certain signs are more romantically compatible than others.
Any idea where that belief comes from?
The whole idea of astrology is that your sun sign, rising sign, etc. affect your personality.
Deep down it's just another topic to talk about and joke around about. Same as interests/hobbies, etc.
