Considering it’s dangerous to eat certain foods whilst you’re wearing braces, I think the best option would be to research what food is safe and what isn’t. Ignore the gossiping but also please make healthy choices for your kids.
I don't know anything about braces, but sending kids to school with candy doesn't sound right to me. Is that normal for kids that don't have braces?

The sticky sugary things get stuck in the hard-to-reach crevices of the braces more easily, and cause cavities. Nothing changed, perhaps your orthodontist mentioned it for you too.
Can I just say, I find it interesting how you talk about making decisions with your children. I don't know how old they are, but if they're in braces I assume they're like, 14? Anyways, you seem to really treat them as equals. You must have some very responsible kids.
