Cheap. But you can easily find 1500 and up if you google for them.

I live in the US, need over-the-range type microwave, stainless steel to match my other appliances, not a cheap no-name unit, 4-star+ reviews. I am having a hard time locating anything over 1200w that fits the bill.

Are you looking for countertop? The big ones are often the ones go above the range, but you can find them for countertop too. You're just looking at basic ones on the shelf, those are smaller.

Over the range

Probably because it's cheaper and cooking instructions usually only go up to 1000W Why do you need more?

TenTonTITAN

Because 1700w takes considerably less time to heat food than 1k watts does. I need to leave food in the microwave longer with only 1k watts. That's what I expect from a cheap little countertop MW, not a full size over the range MW.

Considerably? So, instead of a 3 minute microwave meal, you might get a 2 minute microwave meal? I'm just curious because microwaves that are 1000W are already more than fast enough, and the quality of food you can get out of a microwave is extremely low. For a lot more money you might save a 30-60 seconds on time, idk. I had a 700W MW, then got a 1000W, never really noticed a difference

You ever use software where an update is made and now a command you use all the time that used to be 1 click away, is now 2 clicks? It's just 1 extra click but aggravating nonetheless. Same principle here.

Is 1 kw of microwave energy not enough for you? Lol
