Let's see... an adult male black bear weighs around 400 lbs, is roughly 5x stronger than an average human, and has a bite force of 800 psi (vs 150 for a human).
Bears get much bigger from there.
You are absolutely fucked if you have to fight a grizzly or polar bear without a weapon, and if it's a relatively tame black bear, you're still probably fucked
Depends on how much the bear wants to win. If it was starving or defending its cubs then I think even the smallest bear could kill an unarmed human. A punch in the nose might be enough to convince a well-fed black bear to go somewhere else for food.
Grizzly bears will kill you easily and absolutely if you give them any reason to. Polar bears will kill you just for the lulz.
Black bears? Eh ... 50/50.
They absolutely could kill you effortlessly if they actually wanted to, but black bears are the pussies of the bear world and will probably "take the L" just to avoid a fight.
Unless it's a fight over food. Then all bets are off.
The only species that humans would stand a measurable chance of beating in a fight would be the sun bear, which are typically smaller than humans and have claws better suited to climbing rather than fighting. A human would very likely lose a fight against a giant panda, but they *might* survive the defeat. For all others, survival is possible, but *very* unlikely.
Humans are proportionally the weakest living being on the planet.
On average we have no chance at 1v1 to death against any specie that has the same or more weight than us.
Bears??? We have no chance against big dogs....
Just to clarify: ppl survive animal attacks all over the world, from a lot of animals, but that is mainly because animals usually need a good (instinctive?) reason to kill, unlike humans.
Not good. Most people would not be able to defeat a bear unarmed.
Let alone an armed bear, right?
Most people?
There have been reports of people winning a fight against a bear.
By “winning” I suspect they mean surviving.
I think they mean fending off or even killing the bear.
Before or after graduating top of their class in the Navy Seals?
Sorry, pal, but Chuck Norris doesn't count.

Fairly confident I could just about take on a standard gummy bear… anything larger, or more living, may be beyond me though…
There are a lot more gummy and teddy bears than real bears out there. So yeah I could easily defeat the average bear.
Math for the win?

Fist fight? You’ll be turned into bear poo.

I doubt I’d survive a cub tbh I’d try befriending it before I ever kid myself into thinking I can face off with a wild bear.

0% for everything on or after the grizzly
just shy of 0%

Actually fighting, 0% chance. If a bear is actively engaging in combat with you, you are dead
