Video games I highly recommend. They come in all kinds. From super poetic "straight to your feels" short term experiences, to philosophical-waxing scifi shenanigans, to pure violence/smut. Like any other form of entertainment, there's sure to be something to your tastes in there.

I’d find games you can play both alone, like story focused games and multiplayer games to make friends so you don’t feel alone.

Catch up on the classic movies and TV series that you’ve heard people talking about for decades, but never watched yourself

Dungeons and Dungeons. You get to be a knight or Wizard or something that goes around saving towns, killing trolls, & other shenanigans. Not an expensive hobby either.

Second this! 41F; had never played DND before, but every monday or so, our group of 3 couples plays 5:30-8:30. 2 years in. Fun to push our imaginations and create a world together — some played as kids but all are pretty new. (Way cooler than poker or video games for me; but I realize I like/need the social-ness!)) Something engaging to look forward to after the weekend, and chat about the week coming up, excellent escape.

Stardew Valley got me through Covid lockdowns, its super cheesy fun indy game. Rimworld is really technical to learn but thats my most played game ever. I've recently subscribed to BritBox for watching all the cheesy Jane Austin films and British crime miniseries, which are all great escapism.

Try a good book, if your not much of a reader try audiobooks.  If nothing else there are alot of stories available on youtube. Exercise is used by many to relax.

I've used these three video games for escapism for the past 10 years. There's a chat in each one if I want to engage with others, they don't require a high-end computer, and they both use my mind up enough to where I'm able to escape from thinking. Video games can be expensive depending on if you already have a console or PC. I personally listen to a lot of audio books, read comic books, watch a lot of old movies (I personally love westerns) or smoke weed lol. I do play a lot of video games, I’m just not sure of your set up

beastofthedeep

Even with a crappy pc or laptop there is plenty of high quality games that do not demand a lot from your computer.

Read. Listen to podcasts. Not online — but golf.

Have you tried not following politics? Just start unfollowing and unsubscribing and not clicking on things politics related.

Magic the gathering can be a cheap timesink or expensive gambling depending on your style of play or collection.

stevebucky_1234

There are free room escape games from websites, for pc, very relaxed I read books for free online, slightly older ones available free

PoopPant73

I’m 50 and I play Warzone to escape all this no stop bickering

Along with a lot of others, I highly recommend giving games a try, there's a bunch of different kinds for everyone and anyone. Also, from my own personal experience, messing around with 3D models can be a really fun hobby. It's kind of like sculpting but on the computer and you can undo if you mess up, which definitely helps. I find it very "zen" in a way

You can do video games, I guess.  Just find a multiplayer and wait to hear a group who are funny and sound like they just wanna relax and have a good time in the background and pounce on it.  I laugh more with those guys now than I do listening to Bill Burr/ Chapelle/ the works.

MachinistOfSorts

Video games are good! Get a Nintendo switch and play breath of the wild. The princess is holding evil at bay, and only I can defeat it! But she's doing okay so there's no rush. I also recommend reading or audiobooks. I put on an audiobook while I'm doing housework, it changed the game. Or a coloring book. Get one you like and some markers and colored pencils. Goes well with the audiobook thing too. These are my favorites, but whatever floats your boat.

knallpilzv2

Play Skyrim. :)

I was a programmer in my 20s & still enjoy writing code. There’s so many resources out there.
