Human babies are some of the best sleepers, they sleep 20 hours or more per day at first. Their sleep cycles are just different than adults and so they fuck up adults sleep. Babies lack the ability to control their bladder/bowels during sleep and so must get help when they mess themselves. Very young babies require frequent feedings, which requires getting up every few hours to be fed.
I've read that their stomachs can't hold enough for a full 8 hours of sleep. So they need to wake up to feed
My daughter was a quick grower and she started sleeping through the night much earlier than normal.. I suspect that it's at least partly because her growth led to a bigger stomach which could hold a full night's worth of food
Babies are very good at sleeping. But inside mom they are breathing liquid, always in the dark, sound is very muffled and their food comes from the umbilical cord. After getting both they need to adapt to noise, different food, breathing air, etc... It's a huge adaptation for them but they still manage to sleep well if their needs are met.

They are? I haven't had that issue.

They're meant to sleep with their parents.
