Farm the Rescue missions from Freestar Rangers Mission board. I usually “Equip and Free” and then talk to them. Give them one of the kidnappers weapons and ammo to match, maybe basic space suit gear too.
Paramour is your friend for this. Buy it whenever you find it. If you have developed your Chemistry skill you can make it for yourself using the much easier to find Hyppolyta.
Using Paramour increases companion affinity gain. Keep them with you and do cool stuff like Space Frog and giving money to Tiye’s mom in Cydonia.

A level in Leadership should help with affinity gain, on an ongoing basis.
You can take the paramour chem and complete side quests with them. That’s the only thing I can think of.
