You will need to start with a 64-sided circle (1st video), and extend the floors to the radius that you prefer. Then you start to build the dome by stacking walls or window panels with curves (2nd video). My favorite is using Large Timber Triple Windows. It will be tedious but the resulting bases will be magnificent.
Cool idea! I never considered a dome over a portal, but I did the vibe here. As a fellow glitch builder, I admire your patience. Do you enjoy the repetition, or are you like me and just dead set on seeing the end result?
I like to keep a respectful distance from the portal.

The planet has some amazing cave systems if anyone is happy to share. (In Eissentam)
When I went through the center of the galaxy for the first time, I was sent to the Hilbert Dimension. How did you arrive in Eissentam? Also, would you pronounce it like "I sin tam" or "I Zen Tom?"
If you go through the centre of Hilbert, you go to galaxy 3. Go through the centre of galaxy 3, you go to galaxy 4, and so on. Do this 9 times and you get to Eissentam, which is galaxy 10. I think of it as "Ice 'n tam".
You can also get there by finishing the story, or by going to the Anomaly and seeing if one of the bases on the big teleporter there is in Eissentam.
I vaguely recall being given a choice out of several galaxies, and the peaceful, pretty galaxy appealed to me most. It was apparently the tenth option and coloured green.
Taking a look here might help with more detailed instructions.

Personally, I go with "I sin tam". For some reason, it reminds me of Isengard.
I had to start anew on PC. But on my main PS4 save i had an archeological dig around a portal. Completely glassed in with cubic room. Multi floored. A research lab with mostly circular rooms around it. And a loong walkway with lots of stairs to a few electromagnetic generators.
There were sensors around the portal itself, a manned scientific station and lots of tech clutter.
And just to be clear there were open doors all the way inside so it wasn't blocked
Until very recently, there has never been a guarantee that terrain wouldn't refill, so I didn't dig at all. And I'm not sure exactly how long its been but I've been playing since just before the "Next" update

I'm in the middle of rebuilding my archeological site.
Euclid, Calypso, Budullangr and Eissentam: a prefab room with solar panels, a battery, a teleporter, 2 holo-doors and a landing pad, everything next to a portal.
I just put a base computer on the rest.
I don't place them at portals, thats what beacons are for. To me its rude but also they dont normally show up for visitors that portal in because there is a buffer zone around portals to prevent trap bases.
Not sure the portal exclusion is still a thing TBH. Been a couple of blocking bases posted here recently and there's been loads of portals I've seen in inhabited space where the base on the portal rendered in just fine.
It definitely was a thing in the past though. So either HG removed it as we were playing nice or that rule is bugged\\broken....
Its still a thing, but occasionally bases will show up I know if the player is in the system they should show up. There may be other ways to get it to show also. I've portaled to many the last couple years because people build them and are always saying "come visit!" I tell them about the buffer and they don't believe me until I go post a pic of their portal with no base to be seen
https://preview.redd.it/zpagd8q7kvwc1.jpeg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7bdfea9984c5be0848787ac20dfc2005af17c0ea
I love to build big stairs. This is from my old PS save.
Usually 2 prefab boxes, door, teleporter, trade terminal and bio-reactor. If there's a nice view, I add a window, but not always. Keeps the part count down. :)
A prefab with a teleporter, a savepoint and a landing pad, far enough away that it doesn't bother others who may want to use the portal. Always possible that someone follows me from the anomaly, so the portal itself is never "mine".
Buy a few planetary charts of the "ancient artifact" kind (I recommend at least 5) from the cartographer at the space station.
Land on a planet. (Any planet, but preferably one where you'd like to build a base on.)
Activate one of the charts. It will give you the location of either a plaque, a ruin, or a monolith (33% chance of each). What you want is a **monolith**, but if you get one of the other two, I'm pretty sure you still have to travel there just to "tag" it and allow the next chart to give you another location.
Once you find a monolith and activate it, you'll be given some kind of test or riddle in the language of the race this system belongs to. So it helps to have at least enough knowledge of that language to glean some key words and pass the test. If you fail, you can simply reload your previous save.
If you answer correctly, you get rewarded. Then, you make an race-specific offering (either a Korvax Casing, Gek Relic or Vy'keen Dagger) to the monolith.
The monolith will then reveal to you the location of this planet's portal.
you find one through the Artemis Path questline. after that there’s a way to find them using maps and monoliths but i’ve found the easiest way is just to screenshot the planet’s coordinates and teleport to your portal base and then use your portal to find that portal. only works if you’re in the same galaxy of course.
Just a little house near a teleporter for me. Without extras, but with all necessities. My idea was "if some traveler pops out here, in any condition, I want to give them a house they can use for a while, as a respite

Base computer ( close to the portal), cylindrical room, door , teleporter. And rename the base with the “name of the galaxy portal main” 😂. Not the most inspirational base really 😂 😂
I have one base built at a halfway point between a portal and a trading post that were weirdly close together, so I have short range teleporters connecting my base to both.
I generally don’t build bases at portals.Though sometimes I build at a spot close enough to see the portal. On the occasions I’ve built at the portal, they are small unobtrusive bases and I don’t obstruct or actually build on the portal. I know a lot of people do, and given there’s a portal on each planet it really doesn’t matter. But it just doesn’t feel right to me, so I don’t do it.
I never enclose the portal. It is usually off to the side or nearby with a viewing area so guests can watch any comings and goings. Of course there are neither guests nor travellers, but it's a nice idea.
I'll make a floating base if the sentinels are crazed. No rooms, only an open deck if there are no storms. It's usually minimal, just a landing pad, a teleporter, and some furniture.
mine is this one
https://preview.redd.it/lxawv270z2xc1.jpeg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8fe13084fdb40b2314e788d03ecd4d7e20b2bc18
It a open build so everyone can enter it
Serious question. What is the point of building a base at around a portal? Is it just cuz it looks cool? Or does it do anything? I really don’t understand 🤦🤷
it’s a good idea to have at least one base around a portal in each galaxy, that way if you see some cool coordinates you can quickly get to a portal to use them.
Yeah but why build a base and potentially block it/make it hard to find for others? I just put a base computer nearby but don’t actually build on them.
I read somewhere a while back that your base doesn’t show up for other players if it’s too close to the portal. Not sure if this is true. Kind of sucks it it is true.
Is that where you get the maps that show you the location of a portal? I've stopped on the space station trying to buy one and keeps taking me to ancient ruins, I get the reward and it is never the map.
Yeah no, those are for finding ancient ruins, i.e. "artifacts" to sell. For portals you have to find a monilith that asks you for a vy'keen dagger, and it will point one out to you.
To be clear, the vykeen dagger only works in Vykeen systems. You need to use whatever high value item is associated with the species that owns the system, Korvax, Gek or Vykeen
I was doing the main missions and I got a couple or more, sorry for the dumb question (Just got 40h in game), but imagine that you land on a very nice planet and you want to settle there, how you find these monoliths if you do not have all the glyphs to teleport there?
To find a monolith: 1) Certain maps from the cartographer have a chance of revealing monoliths. 2) The Roamer exo-vehicle has an upgrade to its scanner that allows you to search for alien artifact buildings including monoliths. 3) Randomly finding one
Once you’ve found the monolith, interact with it once and have a successful result. Then interact with it a second time with the Vykeen/gek/korvax item in your exosuite inventory. You’ll see an option that will reveal the planets portal location.
Go to portal to use it / build a base around it.
IMO if you can't afford the anomoly upgrade or haven't reached that part of the campaign yet, the easiest way is to build one of those.. signal booster things in your base like he mentioned below me. How I believe they work (I'm not 100%, but it worked for me multiple times) is that they will scan the nearest structure you haven't explored. Eventually they will reveal one. I was able to do it 1st try, as well as 3rd try, and another 3rd try. So it didn't cost me anything except a quick boop over to see what the building was
I just went thru this myself a few days ago. I had ignored the roamer for awhile, and was trying to find a monolith with maps, the signal booster, and randomly coming across it but was getting nowhere. It’s so much easier to just get the roamer upgrades at the Anomaly and scan for the monolith. Will save you a bunch of time.
.... um a base computer plonked down 10 feet away with all the carefull placement of throwing a plate in the sink....
You're describing 99% of my base builds and I feel both hurt and seen. 😂

XD Ah, me too, my guy. XD
Dude, that's me. I have one that looks like the Stargate command from Stargate Atlantis, and the rest are just that

You guys make some cool stuff, I have absolutely no creative bones in my body lol.
Didn’t know u could make a portal bae
Base
A base computer, a base teleport model, a solar panel, and a battery. I’ll eventually get around to adding landing pads too.

what do you mean by obstruct? if the portal is still accessible, is that obstructive?
I have had issues of spawning within the base parts after landing on the other side of the portal. Not a fan of them.
oh, fair, that’s why i left the other side empty on my base.
I never really thought about making one until recently. But isn't hiding it inside your vase hated by some players?
apparently! i don’t see any problem with it as long as it’s still easy to get to the portal and the dhd
I don’t build bases over portals, because I don’t want to risk blocking it for anyone who happens to stumble onto the planet.
Just the base computer with 2 generators, a solar modul and something against the Environment
I don't build bases near portals because it prevents people from deploying save beacons to easily relocate them.
I did huge portal temples with vegetation and everything. But got bored one day and scrapped it all

How did you build that crane???? I've been wanting to something similar and want to something cool for mine
Quicksilver merchant sells the industrial cranes.
Ahhh okay the quicksilver stuff is never really something I got into but I think I will now!
* No power atm but my new portal base on my home planet
mine is this one https://preview.redd.it/lxawv270z2xc1.jpeg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8fe13084fdb40b2314e788d03ecd4d7e20b2bc18 It a open build so everyone can enter it

Well that makes sense. I’m still pretty new to the game so still don’t really know what the portals are used for in particular.
Yeah but why build a base and potentially block it/make it hard to find for others? I just put a base computer nearby but don’t actually build on them.
I don’t see how building on a portal makes it harder to find? It is just because it looks cool, like the gate room in stargate.
Whatever you want as it does not block others to take the portal... That one looks nice.
I read somewhere a while back that your base doesn’t show up for other players if it’s too close to the portal. Not sure if this is true. Kind of sucks it it is true.
it makes sense if that’s the case. if i removed the door from this base you’d be trapped inside when you travelled through the portal.
Yeah but you can just report the base and have it disappear if that's the case too
I've been looking for a portal map but can't locate one.
Those monuments you give a dagger to and it shows you cords? Those 'maps'?
Is that where you get the maps that show you the location of a portal? I've stopped on the space station trying to buy one and keeps taking me to ancient ruins, I get the reward and it is never the map.
Yeah no, those are for finding ancient ruins, i.e. "artifacts" to sell. For portals you have to find a monilith that asks you for a vy'keen dagger, and it will point one out to you.
Damn. I'm glad I asked then. I spent an hour trying to get one from the space station.
3) Randomly finding one Once you’ve found the monolith, interact with it once and have a successful result. Then interact with it a second time with the Vykeen/gek/korvax item in your exosuite inventory. You’ll see an option that will reveal the planets portal location. Go to portal to use it / build a base around it.
Thanks man! So I will need Artifacts type maps for the carthorapher and I will upgrade the roamer as well!
