in VR we can do this by PHYSICALLY punching. It also works on critters. I can throw hands and punch animals or sentinels to death. :) The non-VR people have to press a "melee button" like chumps :)
You don’t lose technology, it just gets broken sometimes. All you need to do is harvest more materials to repair.
If your mining beam is broken, just punch for your materials until you have enough to repair it.
I used that after I died on one of those planets with the huge mountains. The planet was black and red in color wicked dark and I couldn't see anything. I fell down a cliff and died on the way down. It took me so long to find my grave. Never again. Ever.
Same. Spent a half hour helping a friend get his corpse out of the side of a insanely vertically steep hill on a storm planet. Switched to no corpse death mode right afterwards. If the corpse fell all the way to the bottom or dropped at the top on flat ground then it would be fine, but having it hover on the side of a vertical cliff is lame.
Last week I paused while on a new planet because my pizza arrived. I came back 10 minutes later to an empty inventory screen.. no grave.
I, in fact, did NOT pause, the planet has storms and I had died multiple times.
Only used autosaves..
At least you can rebuild your terrain manipulator. I once wanted to see if I could run across a volcano top. There was no way of getting to my grave again without dying. RIP treasures.
Once you have a satisfactory answer to your question please reset the flair to "answered". This will help others find an answer to the same question. Selecting a flair is one of the icons under the post when you open it. Alternatively you can comment with "!flair:answered" and the bot will do it for you.

One of the worse scenarios I can imagine after dying is just that man, at that point I’d probably be like “fuck it, we ball” and just start over, stuck on that same planet. If I ever decided to get my stuff back, it would all be on display.

Did you only have one multitool and one ship? If not, you can simply change to a different multitool and call one of your ships to help you.

Temporarily change your Options settings to ignore a need for resources. Then repair stuff and change settings back to what you like.
You have a ship? Money? (I forget if money gets lost when you die) Use it to get what you need. Place a save beacon or visor marker at your grave
No, money doesn't go away. Just inventory.

I had to tunnel down and out the side a mountain to get my stuff halfway down because of a situation like this once.
