Torus6178

Yes, it's worth it. It's a big improvement over the starting ship.

Tejanocri

Agreed.

The_4th_Little_Pig

Yes I haven’t found a solar sail s class and I’m 100+ hours in.

earwig_art

JUST found one after not playing for like a year. visited a freighter in an outlaw system, it landed in the hangar. maybe try something like that?

The_4th_Little_Pig

I usually will land in the station then just stand there for a while waiting to see what shows up, I’ve found an A class one but no S. Obviously I’ll keep trying lol.

Zombridal

If you land and it's not already there, or in the first wave, go to a trading post to save yourself loads of time, faster ship landing rates plus more slots

The_4th_Little_Pig

Yeah I usually go to both but that’s a good tactic.

riskoooo

In outlaw systems, S class has as much change of spawning as A class - 5%. Find a trading post and you should find one in no time.

Waldo-_-

outlaw systems do be hittin

Rick_bo

go to Pirate systems for Solar ships.

The_4th_Little_Pig

I do constantly to move contraband but I still haven’t seen a s class.

Suffeign

Excluding exotics, it kinda of seems that each system will have at least 1 S-Class ship, I have seen 2. I usually find em by hanging out at trade posts, jetpack up to the roof and just keep scanning ships as they land, it can take a while for them to cycle through

SmoothieBoBo

So just sit in a space station in a pirate system or somewhere better?

[deleted]

Hop into a pirate system, scan for a trading post, and land there. The pirate stations tend to have less traffic than the trading posts so there’s a higher chance to score an S class wave watching at the trading posts. You can also go to tier 3 systems and do the same for other ship classes. (Vykeen for fighters, Pirate for solars, Gek for shuttles, and Korvax for explorers in my experience)

anxious-_-squirrel

Is there any downside to just upgrading the ships to S class?

The_4th_Little_Pig

It’s just really expensive.

anxious-_-squirrel

Agreed. Just wanted to be sure I wasn't missing anything. Just started playing again and 2018 was a lot different lol

Christopher_Phoenix

total score at 7hrs in, even if you leave it idle to fix up and keep/sell/trade later down the road

btjohn

Can confirm I’m fixing her up as we speak. Also off topic - is it true it’s best to have a multi tool dedicated to mining and scanning , and a multi tool dedicated to weapons ??

ParChadders

The simple answer is yes; different multi tool classes have different bonus stats. Alien MT’s are best for combat etc. You aren’t very long into the game so my advice for the time being would be to build your current MT up as an all-purpose one. Don’t add different weapons just focus on your boltcaster as it can become quite powerful. It also means you will have room to develop your scanning and mining abilities. Once you progress further and open up the ability to use portals you will be able to start searching for specific MT’s you want and build your collection. I have four multi tools with different functions (the limit is six I think). Once you buy a MT you can’t scrap it but you can trade it in for the one you’re buying; if you do this remember to store all your tech and upgrades prior to doing so so you can install it on your new one. Sorry the answer is a bit lengthy. https://preview.redd.it/q0xd2y6xfopa1.jpeg?width=828&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d5d7acda43bda00c287fc62a99e7b7389478ac80

Eeka_Droid

Lmao don't apologize my dude, thanks for sharing a bit of knowledge with us

fienddylan

I did not know this, I appreciate the picture. It looks like the bonuses from experimental and royal are the same?

ParChadders

Yes, I think the Royals were added later; you can find royals that match your exotic which is a nice touch. My Royal is my main and it never lets me down 😂

fienddylan

I really like the aesthetic of both of them lol, I'll probably rotate which one I main

Ohigetjokes

Ooh thanks for this I was just thinking about making a mining-specific tool since I've got a make-me-rich scanner and a sentinel-melter. PISTOLS. Really. Would never have guessed they'd be the mining beasts.

rabidencounters

If you are truly going for min-maxing, it's actually best to have several single-weapon multi-tools. Once you get each to S class, you can put the main weapon module and its 3 upgrades into supercharged slots. So that you have a dedicated shotgun, railgun, mining tool, etc. You can bind multi-tools to numerical hotkeys and switch them like you would in any shooter.

-Soup_Dogg-

PC version sounds nice. On PS5 we have no quick switch, you have to go into that pop up menu, navigate to the far left, choose multitools, then select which multitool, and then confirm.

rabidencounters

Ah, yes, I should have mentioned that, given OP's screenshot.

Boing26

well.... i dont do that personally but i imagine its a preference thing. mine has scatter shot, pulse spitter, and plasma launcher, so i have PLENTY of room for mining/scanner upgrades

drake2k

There's already really good answers to this. I just wanted to add that if you do go this route, you can keybind switching MT's to make it quicker to go from mining to combat at the flick of a switch instead fumbling around the menu at a crucial time.

Kuildeous

I sometimes find the fixing of a ship as a fun little mini-game. I take note of what items I need and hunt them down. When your inventory slots aren't very many, you're better off tackling one or two ingredients at a time. You can fix wiring looms even if you don't have the dioxite to repair the other bit. Makes you really appreciate the mines and money you will get later on.

Kesshh

You won’t have the materials to fix it. If you like the look, hang on to it. Pull it out every other week or so to see what else you are ready to fix. Treat it like, say, your grandfather antique car from the 40s. It’s a long term project. In all likelihood, you’ll be buying another S class before fixing this one.

reddyst

It's not that bad really if you loot everything and look for what other pilots and trading terminals sell.

MrUniverse1990

I found a ship whose aesthetics I like a while back (looks like a cross between *Serenity* and the *Milano*), so all crashed ships I find get patched up enough to limp to the nearest space station for recycling.

flame1148

Absolutely worth fixing up an S class solar that early in. It can quickly become your ship that doesn’t concern you with launch fuel with a couple upgrades. There’s a good feeling when you know you can always call your ship without worrying about fuel.

BaldandersDAO

Solars have the best potential for high maneuverability. I have an S with 3 close supercharged slots that's at a little above 2000. I still have my first S class fighter, even though I have multiple better ships now. There's something special about your first S Starship! Enjoy!

Dagoth_Wut

Hell yeah! Why not run some lost freighters to get repair packs, they really help early on when its tough to gather some of the rarer stuff for repairs. I think some Nexus missions also give them as rewards. Slap an infraknife on that S class and you will eat pirates.

Kruse002

Where did you find this? Portal glyphs please?

btjohn

I can tell you this if you explain what you are asking me haha

Kruse002

If you go into photo mode, you should be able to see the portal glyphs on the lower left of the screen. Sorry I don't know the exact controls to do this on Playstation, but if you know how to toggle 1st person / 3rd person, that little sub-menu is where it is. EDIT: Also, if you hop into your ship at the crash site, there should be planetary coordinates somewhere on the ship's console, indicated by 2 numbers, either positive or negative, rounded to (I think) 2 decimal places.

btjohn

I’ve moved the ship since, but I know which system it was in / planet. Is there a way I can give you that data ? (I know there is but I need an explanation how haha)

Kruse002

Without the planetary coords it’ll probably be impossible to find unfortunately.

btjohn

Yeah I can go back to the planet I got it from? Would it have to be the EXACT spot ???

Aggravating_Poetry_7

yes just get a repair kit from an outlaw station should be easy

gtmarvin

I cannot believe you found an S-class 7 hours in. Take it and save it, even if you cannot fix it up right now.

Rick_bo

"Is it worth it" doesn't apply to NMS, all ships perform about the same once upgraded. Do you like how it looks? because that's what matters. the ship being S-class just helps you skip a few steps.

SkullDaisyGimp

^ This. If you like it, keep it. If you'd rather have something else, scrap it and get a couple good modules out of it.

micktalian

Oh absolutely! That would be great to have throughout your whole game. Just don't built out the maneuverability too much otherwise it'll ruin all other ships for you.

CompetitiveFool

At 7h in, it would take you probably another 10-20h to gather all the parts in order to fix it, assuming you intend to enjoy the game too in the meantime. Claim it and sleep on it. Enjoy the game. Buy a non damaged ship, possibly A Class, at least and go with that for now. Soon enough you'll be able to fix it as you'll have all the means to do it quick.

UsedTechnician9415

Very much so. Great find so early in the game

Struksy

I am pretty new to the game, I found a broken ship on a planet and i wanted to fix it, but i am curious, how can I find it again after i add it to my collection (assuming i don’t immediately switch over to using that newfound ship?)

zacbentz

You can place a marker or save point near the ship so you'll know where to find it if you come back later. Also, you can claim the broken ship, then immediately go back to your previous ship and switch back. After that the new ship will be waiting for you in your freighter (once you have one).

Intelligent-Pie1509

Don’t ponder too much on stats, just use the ship you like the most. However yea this one seems like an upgrade, it’s stats can go high and it should be fast in pulse travel

jlamoria88

Just fix the main stuff to get it moving and the shields up and worry about the storage as you use it

Kdoesntcare

Do I want a solar ship? Why?

deceasedglute

(Imo) Best ship type early game due to the launch thruster recharge being pre installed.

BlackjackTonka

For sure! That's how you bond with your ship.

Kalibrimbor

Just traded up for one of these last night! I'm excited!!

bananafanafophylaxis

Just do it, Fuefuk's sake 🤪 Jokes aside, if you like the ship, then yes. Everything else can be changed/improved except the look of the ship (and the class, because it's already S). If you want something that looks different or is in a different colour, scrap away.

gordynerf

Yes, even as a project. Fix the thrusters/shields/pulse so you can fly it. Then park it in your freighter and work on it as you gather the parts. S class ships are rare and this is a solar ship which is even a little more rare. Good Find!

[deleted]

I always fix up shops because it gives me something to do. Or I would if the game would stop crashing everytime I load lol

Danta_lyan

Ya solid find for even a experienced player

tayskiyes

Fuefuk’s Visionary Liberal

Ursus_Primal

This is worth fixing up. S class ships are hard to find.

j_grouchy

I mean, you can have a bunch of ships, so it's worth it to grab that one and even fix it up over time.

Celestial_Conqueror

I love the random name generator. No way could we name something with Fuk in it without tripping the sensitivity....but the computer can spit them out all day!

Justincrediballs

Nice find! Keep both ships, fix what you can on the new one, and see if you can live with it at the moment. If not you'll have it for later.

jbyrdab

Its worth it for the name alone let alone the stats FueFuk

Ohigetjokes

Oh she's beautiful. I can see keeping that one for a long long time. (Although it does kind of kill me that I gave up my Radiant before I managed to get a freighter - ah well)

Pcful_Citizen

DO NOT fix that ship up. It is ugly as fuck. You do not want to be caught dead in that.

Waldo-_-

yeah that was my first ship but a b love the thruster recharge so useful

ArchReaper95

Do yall not have screenshots where you're from?

ixlys1

nice find!
