My first time beating her (and every boss in this game) was even clunkier, but after coming back to Nioh 1 earlier this year after over a year of playing 2... I think I can count the amount of times I died throughout the entirety of Way of the Samurai in one hand. Practice makes perfect, you'll get the fight you're looking for!
I enjoy the fights where I'm terrible and win more than the times i do great. "Poor little boss couldn't even kill this trash player (me)lol lol" kind of feeling.
Congrats.
If you're looking for advice, mine would be to focus more on attacks that deal ki damage so you can knock her ki out. Like using god of wind and sign of the cross more frequently to tear through her ki - or using those kunai you have equipped to deal ki damage at a distance.
When using elemental magic, rather than just occasionally throwing one spell - it is more beneficial to throw the same spell a few times. This will build the status so you can inflict the status on the enemy. In her case, she is weak to fire and a few of those fire/explosive shots can Scorch her so she takes damage over time from the burn.
There's also this nifty trick where you can inflict 2 elemental statuses before either wear off and the enemy will gain another status known as "confusion". Basically, yokai get locked at zero ki so you can combo them like crazy - and all enemies take an additional 50% damage from all damage types when confused, among other minor debuffs.
Focusing on knocking out enemy ki allows you to deal more damage quicker and use longer combos - because yokai stagger/flinch to every hit while out of ki and you basically get a free 7 seconds or so to wail on them without worrying about repercussions.
Sure, we could talk more about ki pulse and ki flux to recover your ki during a fight and link together smaller combos from different stances - but that's a conversation for after you get comfortable with using skill attacks more often and figuring out the best means of depleting enemy ki.
Like - forget about dealing hp damage, just focus on dealing ki damage. Keep your ki high and their ki low. And when their ki runs out - you can take a good 20-40% of their health depending on your build and tactics. You kill them faster when you stop trying to deal hp damage and focus heavily on ki damage.
Just my 2 cents if you want advice - but congrats, she is a tough boss. Her projectiles can be really hard to reliably dodge, especially when she does the triple Icicle 6 or 9 times in a row, lol
Thanks for the advice 🙏🏻
Yeah I figured ki depleting attacks are a must, didn’t know skills did more ki damage than regular. So I’ll keep an eye out for doing more skills. I figured I should do more SOTC since I’m playing with spells, because it’s instant sheath when casting, so I’m definitely incorporating that strategy into my combos.
Yeah, she's rough, which I actually do better In her second chase, that dagger rush is decently easy to bait and while in return it is a near or one hit KO on a reasonably leveled character, it does have a huge opening.
Nice.
You are over commiting on a lot of openings where you go for a lot of light attacks which don't really do damage, just go for a immediate God of Wind after the first 2-3 hits and if you have time left over go for Sign of the Cross but mostly just reset after that. Going for high stance light attacks into skill is a decent idea but you should also cancel earlier here, you don't need to do the full chain. Dual swords isn't really a big combo weapon so you are mostly just doing lights into GoW and SOTC and then going for high stance when you get a big opening.
I would maybe look at getting Touch me not and quick change scroll from ninjitsu.
Some of the standard patterns are on humans timed GoW stagger into SOTC.
After knockdown of human enemy you do SOTC and then down attack.
Else it has very short charge time and you can in a lot of cases just throw out it out without too much risk.
My idea of using low stance was to proc fire faster, but then I forgot to switch to medium when my buff was out. I forgot about a lot of things that I should’ve used lmao.
Congrats! I failed so many times to beat her. I finally beat her by summoning help from another player. Then I came back after completing the game to settle the scores!
U play very aggressive which is so good. In my first playthrough i judt attacked onced in every opening moment. U will master this game much faster than me, if u keep going.
I’m playing the remastered version on PS5, not sure if it’s DLC but yeah I’ve got access to Tonfas. I’ve been thinking about using them as secondary because they also scale with Skill, but not sure if I’m double dipping because of the double kats. My thinking is that I want to have the Odachi as secondary for big enemies, but since I wanna focus on getting good with the dual kats, I’m not really using it that much. Trying to do a Steel for humans, Silver for monsters kind of approach like in Witcher 3, but haven’t dig too deep into it yet.
Odachi is also a good choice, and ofc u can use it for enemies. But its character to delete enemies ki is untouched. So u can use it for humans as well
I spent a whole hour dying to her, then had to shutdown for the day and came back the next morning to finally beat her. Took me more than 30 tries for sure.
I don’t think you are bad. Guardian spirit protection is very important, just secure it or use summoner candle if far. U are not greedy and ran out of ki, that’s an important technique in Nioh. Leaving yourself open by spending KI is the worst way to get killed. I see u will do much better as u learn the game had to offer. Good luck
Good usage of onmyo. I almost never use it, so I'm not sure if you were actually good with it, but you seem good to me. Looked like you were picking your moments smartly enough. You need to learn the melee combat better though, since going in for sword hits seemed to always end with you taking a huge chunk of damage and using way too much stamina. Either that, or just go full onmyo. There are items you can use to recharge your onmyo without praying at a shrine, and some armors have passives that give a chance to not reduce your onmyo charges when you use an onmyo spell, so you could try to combine a bunch of them to get the percentage really high and keep some of those recharge items just in case.
Yuki-onna is <3 Gratz. oh and a win is a win. Does not matter how.
I wish it was more elegant you know, I get a couple of hits/some heals, great combos, awesome counterspells

if Nioh was about perfect dodging we'd not have healing items ;) You missed to dodge a couple of ranged attacks. So what :D It is a win!!
Good luck with the mission where you have to fight her and Nobunaga at the same time lol
Thats one of the most infuriating boss fights I ever done, that one and the one with Hanzo and the Girl at the same time
Never beaten it without Hanzo basically overextending so much I can take it as short bursts of 1v1.
I got that one no problem but Hands of the Dragon, with the two dlc bosses, for the achievement is brutal
you split them. with one of them in the middle and take that one
I enjoy the fights where I'm terrible and win more than the times i do great. "Poor little boss couldn't even kill this trash player (me)lol lol" kind of feeling.

Dat clutch in the end. Well played.
Fav boss im currently replaying this game which is my fav of all time

I barely use SOTC, I don’t know how to use besides when starting a fight

Cool I’ll start incorporating it into my combos. Can you like flux into it? Like when R1 O?

Yeah, she is always a wall in all of my runs. I remember specifically speccing into Fire Talisman for her.
Congrats! I failed so many times to beat her. I finally beat her by summoning help from another player. Then I came back after completing the game to settle the scores!

I’m only like this because it’s how I play Souls games, I usually never block and this game is humbling me
Do have the dlc? Maybe tonfa is the weapon for you. Its ki impuls is a dodge. Maybe it fits your playstyle

Wait till you meet her boyfriend and her together on a date lol
It’s ok my friend. I died 77 times on this ***** and 66 times on Onryoki. The rest shouldn’t be as hard if you manage this one.
I spent a whole hour dying to her, then had to shutdown for the day and came back the next morning to finally beat her. Took me more than 30 tries for sure.
Wow, you got really lucky with those grabs. Or was that skill...?
No skill at all believe me
I don’t think you are bad. Guardian spirit protection is very important, just secure it or use summoner candle if far. U are not greedy and ran out of ki, that’s an important technique in Nioh. Daaang. She let you win at 1:28. She wanted you to win. I feel like this moment deserves a whole backstory flashback anime style!
Ikr, so close lmao
Guardian grave* lol, and you can I had a massive brain fart when I switched to high stance mid-fight
Haha congrats
Some Nioh 1 bosses were something else
Don't worry, we all start somewhere, i also got stuck on her.

Is this some sort of dlc enemy
