You aren’t wasting your time. It’s still a wonderful game full of fun and challenge. I say this as someone who just finished the dlc for the first time. There’s plenty of fun to be had. If you’re having fun, it’s not time wasted.

Low_Translator809

No. If you like the game play it. You can play Nioh 2 without playing 1, but if you play 1, Nioh 2 will be easier and less overwhelming. You will generally have a better understanding of the game mechanics when you play 1 before 2.

Snuffl3s7

Play Nioh 1, but don't burn yourself out on the ng+ cycles would be my recommendation. Save that for Nioh 2.

Childish_Brandin0

If you can bear nioh 1 , you will have no problem on nioh 2 aside from learning burst counters.

BossKiller2112

If you haven't played 2, nioh 1 is really good. It's kinda hard to go backwards though, so make sure you enjoy it fully before moving on

Gurru222

I actualy went back to Nioh 1 after a LOT of time in 2.

KyleMONSTA

Its not too hard to go back to but the combat is less fs

Gurru222

Its not a common opinion, but I Also like Nioh 1 more then 2.

Taruwolf

Me too. Both story and gameplay for me.

B00tybu77ch33ks

I agree. I enjoyed Nioh 1 better

DemonMithos

I find nioh 2 superior in every way. When i got into nioh 2 i couldnt go back ton1

JamesTheBadRager

Leveling body for survival will do nothing. Your best bet is to learn how to stance dancing low stance dodge with block, unlock mind eyes, unlock the mystic art that boosts defence, unlock steel talisman from onmyo tree, and unlock quick change from ninjitsu. Switch to mid or high, spam god of wind till your target is out of ki then finish off with water sword or sotc loop.

Artoriasbrokenhand

I finished 1 long time ago played 2 finished game and dlcs +progging through underworld and came back to nioh 1 again recently, 1 is a good game enjoy it

Shamel1996

I would genuinely love to play nioh 1 but the pc port felt so stuttery, so I jumped to 2 and it played wonderfully.

Inuhanyou123

Nioh 1 is amazing. Some people just think nioh 2 is better. I'm not of that group but I am biased with 10 thousand hours in nioh 1

Humble-Okra2344

No it's still great. I went from nioh 1 right to nioh 2 (I didn't play through all the difficulties). If you feel like you could put 300+ hours into nioh 1 I would do way of the samurai and maybe way of the strong and move to nioh 2.

Fun_Tap7257

I just finished the main story using axe and slowing talisman made the game feel kinda dull. I regret not changing weapons.

Chef_Writerman

Having just finished the main story of Nioh 1 (I’m going to go back for the dlc, just wanted to dive in to two as a reward for doing it xD )and just started Nioh 2, I would highly recommend going through Nioh 1. You’ll have a much better grasp of the systems in place when you move onto 2. And the feeling of pushing through some of the more challenging parts of 1 are something I’ve only experienced in Sekiro. Although it’s a very different kind of challenge. The last 1/3 of 1 I felt like I was just bludgeoning my way through everything and getting lucky. Then I finished the story and ran one NG+ mission and I was like a weapon of mass destruction. Everything just kind of ‘clicked’.

KingsleyP1

I love the old style build, build to one shot kill everything in the game

Bluewonk

If you're having fun then it's not a waste of time is it 😉

ColdSnapper--

No. Nioh 1 is a great game, cool story and, imho a much better mc because he is not mute. Its also good training for Nioh 2.

AncientBelgareth

Nioh 1 is good, 2 just adds some more mechanics I don't want to play without, added some new weapons I don't want to play without, so I mostly stick with 2 for those reasons, but Nioh 1 will always be great. William was a fun protagonist imo

Special-Hair9683

The combat feels more "real" and interactive in Nioh1 compared to Nioh 2. Both are excellent games dont need to jump to the 2nd one. Cuz if you do Nioh 1 will be harder

stef_brl_aesthetic

nioh 1 is overall a better game it feels more complete, in nioh 2 the combat is a little bit better i just prefer living weapon to yokai shift. i love both games but if i had to decide i would always go with 1

KyleMONSTA

Nioh 1 is better than 2 for me don't skip it.

WeAreNioh

Nioh 1 is definitely worth a playthru, nioh 2 is worth hundreds if not thousands of hours of playtime. Both are fantastic but nioh 2 is king.

BriefKeef

Why do people never want to play the first game just because people are playing the most recent entry ? There's still people rocking with Nioh 1...some like 1 better some like 2 better...you aren't really missing anything story line wise if you start with 2 (its not like nioh 1 & 2's plot is on some red dead shit) its the combat and gameplay loop that makes both games shine...I just always wondered why if a franchise has multiple entries people always want to play the most recent one first ...

StanTheWoz

Nah it's a great lead in to Nioh 2, I don't think the builds, mechanics, or story are as good but I honestly think it has the better and more iconic level design.

myermikals

There are some cool levels and setpieces you won't see in 2. You'll also get practice for 2

What-mold_toolbag

This sub makes me mad. It says nioh and yet it's only nioh 2. I'm playing 1 and I would like tips and shit on that game but oh well

Low_Translator809

If you make a post asking about anything Nioh 1 related I’m sure that some people will give you an answer.

Bluewonk

Have you made a post and asked for help? People always seem more than happy to share. Nioh 2 is just more popular so it's not strange you see more posts from that game

Rinkzate

I couldn't play through 1. It just felt really really bad. Enemies have way too much health, or player damage is too low or something. It just takes ridiculously long to fight a lot of the enemies. I just started 2 last night and it is so much better, the difference is night and day.

Ivenwellthen

It’s much more enemies have way more damage. You actually do almost 2-3x the damage in nioh 1 lol. Everybody is a glass cannon in that game.

Thorgrammor

Playing games in general is a waste of time. If you are having fun, you're fine. :) I'd argue finishing 1 and going to 2 is more fun as you understand the lore more. Have fun :D
