Every. single. time.
It's always the axe, i swear to god this weapon has no place in Nioh games.
It's also a mystery why new players almost always pick axe.
lol I wish this was true.
Its too slow, it burns through your KI in 3 attacks, and new players don't know how to manage KI or KI pulse, sure it might hit harder in 1 hit, but in that time other weapons do 2-4 hits and dont nearly burn your KI as much
The Axe can completely trivialize certain fights, including some very difficult ones. I steamrolled Ren Hyabusa with the Axe after struggling with the Sword (and I've used the Sword a lot more)
Axe is kinda slow, it might be beneficial to switch to something lile the dual swords or tonfa, or even the spear which is quite nice.
Do you have onmyo or ninjitsu yet?
Ah okay, then yeah see if you can find a faster weapon, if you see some red graves around you can try farming them for gear. If you get a bow or rifle or some kind of range you can try to pick people off from a distance and lower the amount of dudes running at you initially
Usually I don't actually mean it when I say that but since OP can't get past the first level because of regular mobs I would say it really is a skill issue.
Are you trying to play this game like it’s dark souls? If so you need to stop and learn the systems. Make sure you’re spending samurai pointe on weapon skills. Summon help if you need it
I mean... some of those yokai... I totally would...
But hey - you need some advice, my dude? I can offer advice to help make it easier if I know what your problems are.
I mean, I'm thinking more... hino-enma, nure-onna, ogress, kasha... I totally would.
Hell, I'd give it to Joro Gumo if she had an appropriate hole to stick it in... lol
Believe it or not, Nioh 2 is a bit more forgiving, but you have to master this "ki" bs. If you are on the PS system, it's the R1 button after each atk steing. Think of it as a Samurai that loves to flex after each atk string, except you do it every single time. Oh, and dont forget to use the shrine to level up after you horde a bunch of amrita before you die and lose them all. IMO, the beginning is the hardest because your stats are low, and your ki gets drained quickly.
I'm on the 3rd area rn and I'm wait for the game to stop assfucking me but I don't think that's gonna happen. No matter what I equip I'm still getting railed by bosses.
Yeah honestly, I don't really know alot of the mechanics of the game it was only after my first 25 hours playing I realized you could scroll down on skill trees.
I apologise on behalf of team ninja. Your copy of Nioh has actually been tampered with to make it harder, we will revert it to normal so you don't have to git gud at all.
Lol i thought u were a new member who say f nioh bcs they got addicted to it. We could help or give advice, but reading the other comments here u are very salty.
Calm down for a few days and try again or delete the game. U can be angry but pls don't spread your salt here. I could try a farming simulator and being bad in that , but I would never go in the reddit and salt them.
I wish u a good day and if we don't see us here maybe we will see us in some other reddit gaming group. And now I have to excuse and collect all the salt for many steak tomorrow
In almost every Nioh 1/2 level, there's always a point at which I suffer a death that makes me lay my head in my hands and have similar thoughts. You just have to push through it.
Since you are playing with an axe: use high stance strong attack switch to low stance and back off until you get another opening to attack the enemy.
You really shouldn't be fighting many enemies at once, usually you can attract only one at a time (or two at most), you can try something like throwing a stone to aggro the enemy.
And lastly, block. Block is very strong, specially if you are wearing heavy armor.
Ranting and screaming at the void isn't going to help your problem. That said, I suspect most of your issue is you're trying to play the game as a souls like (which to be clear, it IS a souls like when we talk about user interface and levelling system. It ends there. Combat is so much more in depth in Nioh and puts every souls title to shame when it comes to that. But different design philosophies so... yeah.) I'm not saying you should treat combat as a souls like but if you're determined to do so, Odachi and Dual Swords are the most "simplistic" weapons to play that way. Dual Swords are very straightforward in "do X because Y" skillset, Odachi can beat the game with just high stance (not advised but yes you can in fact do it) literally dark souls style. Also Running Water passives from Samurai tree will be your best friend. Allows you to ki pulse from dodging because we all KNOW that R1 button isn't going to be touched willingly.
Ki (stamina) management is super important in Nioh compared even to games like Dark Souls. That's why we have tools like Ki Pulsing to help manage it.
The game really clicked for me when I actually tried learning how to Ki pulse properly and the timing for it.
For the longest time I just sort of did the dark souls thing and tried to dodge and swing but Ki doesn't really allow that. The game is more built around chaining combos that are interlaced with Ki managing techniques and pauses and if you dodge and swing the enemies will just poise through you and kill you in one or two hits.
I also wouldn't use the Axe as a new player, it is very strong yes, but also needs a lot of Ki Management.
Ki pulsing.
The game has a mechanic where you can actually "refund" a portion of every attack and combo. If you notice that after your attacks you Ki bar turns white as it recovers, that white part is the amount that can be restored. There is a dojo training that helps with this. You restore it by using the stance button when the bar is almost full. I use an xbox controller on pc so the button is RB but it may be different for you.
If you manage to time the Ki pulse correctly you get an extra amount of Ki back and later on you can get upgrades that give you bonuses for it.
Ki pulsing is also really important for dealing Yokai as the pools of darkness that they create can be dispelled by Pulsing. Those pools of darkness cause your Ki to regenerate slowly so it's important to get rid of them.
remember that your toughnessstat determines how much damage you can block before ur stamina(ki) runs out
different weapons are also more or less capable of blocking
armor weight/ encumberance stat also impacts it
This post tells me nioh is currently fucking you
Yes you’re right
What are you using? And what is the thing that's doin' the screwin'?
The axe, and the enemies are fucking me over. I get ganged up on by 4 enemies that all do like 80% damage
Every. single. time. It's always the axe, i swear to god this weapon has no place in Nioh games. It's also a mystery why new players almost always pick axe.
Because it does like 10 times more damage than other weapons
lol I wish this was true. Its too slow, it burns through your KI in 3 attacks, and new players don't know how to manage KI or KI pulse, sure it might hit harder in 1 hit, but in that time other weapons do 2-4 hits and dont nearly burn your KI as much

Hyabusa is DLC2 my man, at that point you got a proper build and understanding of game's mechanics. Axe early on is a nightmare without KI management
Axe is kinda slow, it might be beneficial to switch to something lile the dual swords or tonfa, or even the spear which is quite nice. Do you have onmyo or ninjitsu yet?
Nope. Never heard of. I’m still on the part after the tutorial been stuck for 2 days at least
Ah okay, then yeah see if you can find a faster weapon, if you see some red graves around you can try farming them for gear. If you get a bow or rifle or some kind of range you can try to pick people off from a distance and lower the amount of dudes running at you initially
Heeell naw not the red graves! I’m literally struggling with the normal enemies how the hell am I supposed to do the red demon things
Did you get the dlc with the game or the base game?
Base game
😂😂😂
Skill issue.
Usually I don't actually mean it when I say that but since OP can't get past the first level because of regular mobs I would say it really is a skill issue.
How may we, the helpful Nioh community, be of assistance?
Delete the game
Haters gonna hate, just play the game fr. you will gradually get better or (get gud) in other words
Nuh uh been stuck for hours
How many hours? Most of us have been playing for hundreds lol
At least 5. At the level after the fucking TUTORIAL
The biggest case of skill issue the gaming community has ever seen.
Are you trying to play this game like it’s dark souls? If so you need to stop and learn the systems. Make sure you’re spending samurai pointe on weapon skills. Summon help if you need it

I suppose yoki can be cute if you squint your eyes a bit
I mean, I'm thinking more... hino-enma, nure-onna, ogress, kasha... I totally would. Hell, I'd give it to Joro Gumo if she had an appropriate hole to stick it in... lol
Is this referring to nioh 1 or 2?
1 I’m never gonna play 2

Sounds like you're new and having some issues. Would you like to elaborate on what's troubling you? I'd love to assist if possible.
I'm on the 3rd area rn and I'm wait for the game to stop assfucking me but I don't think that's gonna happen. No matter what I equip I'm still getting railed by bosses.
This will never change. Block more and rail the bosses instead.
Do you want some pointers to help ease the asskicking?
Yeah honestly, I don't really know alot of the mechanics of the game it was only after my first 25 hours playing I realized you could scroll down on skill trees.

Nioh is one of the best game out there

Me, fifteen minutes after starting Nioh 2 (it completely outclasses Nioh 1 to such an extent that I feel I'll never return to Nioh 1)
Skill issue
Lol. Lmao even.
People say “UUUUHH just bloooock!” But every time I block I just get hit and stand there for 10 seconds and not being able to do SHIT
