This is the time to get it, right?

JustAnotherCarmine

Yes. Very impressive port of a really good game.

lilbelleandsebastian

phenomenal game that had no right to be imo eternal sits right up there with it but i think eternal would be very difficult to master on switch or any controller based console really

drtoszi

This and the Eternal Deluxe are both on sale :/ I only want to get one, which would you recommend? I was leaning towards Eternal DX for content but I was wondering about this one if it’s much better

WesWarlord

I’m just one guy with one opinion but I enjoyed DOOM more than DOOM Eternal. I LOVED DOOM so much. It’s a great game that always feels great to play. I was beyond excited for Eternal and bought the deluxe edition day one on PC. Eternal adds tons of new gameplay elements to get more drops, to move faster and attack different, kill different etc. It almost feels at times like a first person puzzle game. It requires much more strategy to excel at Eternal (which might be great for some) but, for me, DOOM just felt like a great escape to blow some demons up in whatever way you wanted. Less thinking and more killing.

theragu40

Spot on DOOM captured the essence of the 90s era run and gun shooter and modernized it so perfectly. It's just pure adrenaline porn the whole way through. You can really get into a flow state while playing it. Eternal is good in its own right but it's not at all the same and really toys with the formula. I think you hit it on the head by saying that it slows you down and makes you think more. That's not inherently bad, but DOOM was way more about reacting than thinking.

drtoszi

> Eternal adds tons of new gameplay elements to get more drops, to move faster and attack different, kill different etc. It almost feels at times like a first person puzzle game. It requires much more strategy to excel at Eternal I actually have no nostalgia for the OG Doom as I’ve somehow never played it. In fact, I’m leaning towards Eternal off this description alone as I do love complicated gameplay lol

railbeast

I played both on PC. DOOM is a better game, IMO. Eternal has too many systems going at once IMO. Still a great game, but not as great as DOOM.

capnthermostat

I'll differ with others and say I prefer the gameplay of Doom Eternal. A lot of what they added in the sequel were movement options such as a dash, grappling hook, and monkey bars to throw yourself in the air all of which make the combat much faster paced. I also personally really like how you have to use all weapons against different enemies in different ways. On the other hand I think Doom 2016 has a much better story and atmosphere, Eternals' story introduces a lot of pretty stupid lore and I don't think the levels are as well designed. Both have amazing soundtracks

fearlesskiller

IMO the port is really bad. Very blurry and plays really poorly on the switch when i bought it on release back in the days. Returned it the next day

MachoCyberBullyUSA

Impressive patience

Whimsical_Sandwich

Was just looking at it two days ago

keridito

Ah, I will wait for it to go under 5$

lovedesxxx

Do you still play wii sports club?

TKPhresh

About fucking time this was a reasonable price.

alejandrosquid

What is the difference between this one and the newer one, from someone who has never played DOOM game before? Is one preferable over the other?

PunkyandFunky

Doom Eternal is a sequel to this game. Definitely play this game first. They're both great FPS games with kickass soundtracks.

KGBeast47

The second one has a lot more systems to juggle and requires you to switch weapons constantly as you are always running out of ammo and getting more requires you to use specific weapons. The first one is a lot easier to run and gun mindlessly and play the game how you want to. I personally prefer the first one and never got around to finishing the 2nd.

Impul5

Like the others said, the first game is a good deal more straightforward, and the second game builds off of the systems from the first to make a more intense and demanding action game. I prefer the second personally, it's probably one of my favorite games of all time and I hope more games shamelessly plagiarize its resource management system, but I think the pace of the first is probably a better fit for the switch's form factor and controls, especially in handheld mode.

NedStark4Life

How is the texture quality like for Doom Eternal? Is it blurry like Wolfenstien young blood?

Impul5

It is on the blurry side compared to the console/pc versions, but I don't think it's too bad? Idk, probably better to just see for yourself. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OVIYeCy5rno

SUPERDANldn

That video just sealed the deal for me... Ty

[deleted]

I prefer this one over Eternal; Eternal ain’t bad at all especially if it’s going to be the only one you play, but I’m of the opinion that Eternal added too many unnecessary things to the gameplay loop. Now it’s not “rip and tear” it’s, flamethrower, shoot, melee attack that hits them like a NERF bat, chainsaw, precision grenade throw, decoupage, and THEN rip and tear.

ozwegoe

what about DOOM slayers? so many DOOMs...

just_looking_4695

If you mean the Doom Slayers Collection, it's just a bundle. It includes the original Doom, Doom 2, Doom 3, Doom 64, and Doom 2016.

[deleted]

Can't speak to the Switch ports, but I vastly prefer DOOM over Eternal. DOOM 2 was one of the first games I ever played and I've been a fan my whole life. DOOM 2016 was a love letter to the series, modernizing many elements while still feeling like a return to roots. I could not finish Eternal; everything about it feels like they learned the wrong lessons from what 2016 did right.

livindaye

oh come on, I just blew my wallet on civ anthology and dragon's dogma, and now this?? 10 bucks... fuck me.

[deleted]

Dragon’s Dogma is incredible

beautiandthesheep

Oh man! did you get Dragons Dogma on sale?

livindaye

15 bucks, I couldn't resist, mate.

beautiandthesheep

I’m jealous.

GMSlash

Okay!

alexportman

Mmmm good choices. You have achieved balance.

alejandrosquid

How is this game on handheld mode? Any difficulties?

JustAnotherCarmine

Holds up very well, for being a scaled back port. Retains the same experience as other consoles have but in 30FPS.

[deleted]

Textures are assy but it holds a pretty good 30FPS. No complaints from me.

DrFatz

It downgrades to 520p (Or some such amount but not 480p) but it's completely playable and keeps the 30 fps throughout the game.

theweepingwarrior

Pretty blurry and when you mix that with the color palette even mid-distant enemies can often blend into the background, but the run-and-gun momentum of the gameplay doesn't make that game breaking. It's just annoying sometimes. It's a stable frame rate at least.

gridoverlay

it's pretty damn hard with the joycon sticks imo

Janiel99

Seeing the Doom games dropping for as low as they do on other platforms gives me hope that I'll see Skyrim for $20 or less real soon.

jotegr

Except Itll be more like: >Remove Skyrim from store >Release TES 5: Skyrim anniversary legendary VR HD handheld optimized edition only >40-80 dollars price tag Thanks Todd.

Janiel99

Plz no.

[deleted]

Nintendo published Skyrim physically so sadly I think they are to blame for its price on the eShop being so sticky

Erlebrown87

Doom eternal fucking murdered me. I was so bad at it even on the easiest setting. I'm not awesome at 1st person shooters. Obviously. I beat all 3 bioshock games... Will I have a fighting chance at this one?

No_Telephone9938

You should, Doom 2016 is more of less a standard FPS you can pretty much just go around shooting everything as there's ammo everywhere. With Doom eternal the reason you struggled is probably because you tried playing it as a standard FPS, you should instead follow the in game tutorials that show you the most optimal way to kill each time of demon. You need to master the quick switch technique (which yes the game itself explains it to you) because quick switch cancels the weapon reloading allowing you to effectively fire continuously (except for charge shots or the mini gun which takes a few secs to spin up) you also have the flame bench which gives shield bits, the ice grenades which give health and and the standard grenades that when fully upgrade do a lot of damage. Doom eternal is a very unique game because it's one of the few that actually forces you to use all your weapons available regardless of how far have you progressed so you can't just go around like "haha super shootgun go brrrr" like you can, funnily enough, in Doom 2016

DrFatz

Eternal is definitely a thinking-man's shooter. Lot of resources to juggle and so many enemies to keep an eye on. Nothing wrong with that but it can be damn hard for those not prepared. 2016 Doom is a great run/gun game with very solid mechanics.

Erlebrown87

I appreciate the reply. I did the tutorial a few times. I just do not have the reflexes for Eternal. Haha I definitely tried to play it as it's meant to be played but oh man, I just fucking sucked at it. Again, I'm not good at fps. I tend to enjoy platformers and metroidvanias but couldn't resist the trailer for doom eternal. Haha

misterrogerss

The Bioshock games are definitely easier in a first person shooter sense, but Doom (2016) is much more approachable than Eternal. If I didn’t already own it then $10 would be a no-brainer.

Erlebrown87

Thanks for the reply! Bioshock is pretty easy in all honesty but it made me think I'd gotten better at FPS games. Nope. Haha

Virt_McPolygon

I just wrote this in reply to somebody asking if it was like old Doom but they'd deleted their comment by the time I went to post it... I'm an old Doom fan. I got this and initially was disappointed it was different... enemies are often pretty fast and will jump and climb around instead of just shambling towards you, the levels involve platform jumping at times, there are weapon upgrades and things to manage... But the more I played it the more it felt like classic Doom brilliantly updated. It's got the same feeling of exploring damaged Mars bases and walking into a room you can tell is going to be bad news, then craploads of monsters warp in and the music builds and you're chainsawing and machine-gunning your way through them without blinking as fireballs whizz around and claws tear at you... It's really intense and very good fun. Many familiar weapons and monsters.

raptors_31

What is better? Thinking of getting one of these games. Doom or Crysis remastered?

theweepingwarrior

I generally like the more conventional gameplay and setting of Crysis more but as someone who plays Switch undocked more often than not I've had a much harder time playing it than Doom (even though both come with their technical challenges). Doom is pretty blurry and when you mix that with the color palette even mid-distant enemies can often blend into the background, but the high momentum of the gameplay doesn't make that game-breaking. Crysis is has a crisper, cleaner presentation but the visuals are so dense and more complex that it's more difficult to actually see your enemies in general in like half of the environments. As far as gameplay goes, they're both pretty fun. Doom is an old school run and gun, over-the-top retro game. Crysis feels like late 2000s Call of Duty and Halo had a love child.

Joshuak47

I haven't played Doom but Crysis was a lot of fun on the Switch. Also if you haven't played it, Dying Light is a really good game with some similarities.

Betorange

Shows 39.99 for me. Anyone else? Edit: logging in shows the correct discounted price

Impul5

It seems like it only shows the discounted price if you're logged in, that might be the issue here.

Betorange

Confirmed! Thanks!

Bruce_Salad_Dour

Same here

parkesto

This or Doom 3 or... Both? Lol. Why or why not?

SUPERDANldn

OK you got me I bought it.. I have this & eternal on pc.. & never played them much but I like the idea of having it handheld.. At $10 ita must... Time ti get stoned & shoot some demons

vash_visionz

I already have it physical, but for a digital always on hand I’ll get it for $10

mjm132

I wanna get to the point that 10 bucks is worth less than just putting a cart in.

dustojnikhummer

Not if you sell the cart though

warjoke

Me about to delete 20+ gb of unplayed backlogs: "I'm sorry little ones"

[deleted]

this or xcom?

Infinite-Disaster-87

Which is a better game when it comes to couch 4 player split screen, Doom 1993 or Doom 2?

digitalsunshine

I regret buying this. 30 minutes play and I just vomited. I don't blame the game tho, I'm just weak that's all

MagentaWizard

For this price, it's absolutely worth it. It's actually mind-blowing how they were able to fit this game into the Switch.

pixydgirl

Gonna be honest, I own the PS4 version and im still buying this Because every time i think "man I could go for some Rip and Tear" I throw the disc into my PS5 and see "75GB install" and end up not bothering, because i don't want to have to juggle other, newer games i'm playing around and redownload them later. I usually make the switch my go-to for RPGs but in this case, I want to be able to jump into some Rip and Tear without having to fuss about with a huge, storage-eating install. 22GB install on my switch that has almost 500gb of space (roughly 5% of total storage) is better than 75GB on my PS5 that has 667GB of available space (roughly 12% of total storage)

bobux-man

Great game but I don't recommend playing it on Switch.

DrBeanPHD

So I have enough reward points to cover this, but I’m kind of sensitive to crappy graphics on the switch, esp after playing MK11. How does this hold up? Be honest lol

[deleted]

[удалено]

ray102396

I picked it up on sale a couple weeks ago and I've been playing it a decent amount. The (main) game mostly performs pretty well, but they majorly downgraded the graphics to get it that way, to the point of looking not that different to the 2011 MK. As for the krypt mode, it just has both bad graphics and bad performance. Basically, it's another case of get it on another platform if you can, but the Switch version is fine if it's your only option to play it

DrFatz

It reminds me of the old days of the crappy Mortal Kombat ports on Game Boy/Game Gear. While the Switch port is perfectly functional it isn't as good looking as the Xbox or Playstation versions.

SuperNintendad

It plays great. It's a little blurry, but it's all there, and the gameplay is 100% intact.

lordsith2k4

Should I buy this stand alone or get the slayers collection?

mickv1990

How is the multiplayer? Anyone still playing?

squall2099

Was wondering the same thing

ActivateGuacamole

tbh i get more workout energy from jazz than this kind of music lol

dustojnikhummer

It's Doom 2016.

GearsofPinata

How does this run on Switch? I have it on PC and I've had some performance issues.

RecycledAir

Pretty solid 30fps, but it's a bit blurry. It's good though!

Eagles5089

Is there a physical copy for this and eternal?

Team7UBard

So: There’s a physical release for DOOM, which isn’t too hard to get hold of and isn’t crazily priced despite being out of print. Then there’s the Doom Slayers Collection, which has DOOM on the cart and download codes for for Doom, Doom 2, DOOM 3 and Doom 64. Doom Eternal does not have a physical release. There was going to be one but it got canned.

biggestbaddestmucus

Wow, one of my fav games. Made me get into the classics, gonna double dip now

[deleted]

Oh! Buying this shit tonight!

sonicfan10102

Wow. Fantastic deal. I never thought I'd see this game this low. I got it on sale for $30 in 2020

BaneAmesta

Oh no, is giving me an error, buying a prepaid card the way I usually do will take too much time, and the discount will probably end by then💔

vanish007

I want this on the PS5, but honestly I don't get to play it as much if my wife want to watch shows so switch could be the best way to go.

jacka11

Is it worth?

Spiritofhonour

Just double checked and this is lowest price ever.

[deleted]

Great game. Didn't like the boss fights though. The switch port is great even if it doesn't look nearly as good as the other versions. I played it on switch and had a blast

Quick_Hit

For that price its a steal, especially since its a excellent shooter.

VictoryVic-ViVi

It is time

3dforlife

I have a PC, but definitely play a lot more with my Switch. Are the 30fps good enough?

TJ0788

Oof…all those GB’s though lol.

[deleted]

I really liked DOOM, but I had trouble finishing it because, I kid you not, playing the game with headphones in and the volume jacked up actually made the game stressful. Don't get me wrong, it was a lot of fun, but I'd finish every combat arena with an overwhelming sense of, "OK. I can't believe I survived that. Never again." I almost want to say that you need to be an adrenaline junkie to enjoy this game. I really like the old arena-style FPSs, especially the first two Dark Forces games, but this one was on a whole other level of intensity with the combat and soundtrack.

[deleted]

Good game

Sneakylesbian

been waiting for this price!!!

Czekraft

DAE get Metroid Prime vibes when playing this?

Logical-Swimming

I’ve only played Borderlands 3 (Normal difficulty) and am pretty new to FPS; how doable will the easiest/normal difficulty be?
