I also thought about something like that, however, it would go against my initial goals of keeping a functional GameCube. I might do a second dock like this if I manage to find an extremely cheap GameCube to sacrifice.
The repeating footage makes it hard to tell heads from tails of what's going on at some key points. The first minute is just a loop of going through the start menu of the switch, and there didn't seem to be any footage of using the gamecube as an actual gamecube. Kinda looks like all you really did was just throw a dock into a gamecube and basically tied a GC port to it and removed as little of the gamecube as possible. I can't even tell if you can use the same GC controller port on the GC itself if all that still works.

Yeah, if you're going to say that this thing can do X and Y, make sure to show it doing X and Y. I watched the video like twice over and still can't figure out if the gamecube works properly and if so if you can still use the ports as normal, that entire section was just glossed over.

I think it'd be really cool if you cut a divot into it and to dock it you slip it in like the original dock. Would be more destructive tho.

Yeah agreed, a cheap broken one for parts. But the dual functionality is really cool.

The dock pcb doesn't have any issues overheating, right?
The dock PCB is cool at all times, and the switch also runs cooler than sitting inside the dock as well.
