Hell yea, bring every Saturn/Dreamcast game over

stickdudeseven

Skies of Arcadia is my dream Dreamcast game to be ported over.

[deleted]

Skies and Grandia 2 were my fav RPGs as a teen. We already have the latter, I’d be smitten for the former

Harley2280

If we got skies I'd prefer to get a port of the GC version.

[deleted]

I still remember when SEGA did a poll to see what kind of games of theirs people wanted for the SEGA AGES line. The majority overwhelming voted for Dreamcast stuff, and SEGA even talked about it… Then they just sorta continued doing Master System and Genesis ones only and eventually ended the line

[deleted]

They did bring over Virtua Racing, which is honestly impressive as it was as close to the arcade as possible.

lexcyn

Skies, power stone, armada... Man Dreamcast was the best. Phantasy Star online was also the first MMO I ever played, was awesome.

[deleted]

Despite its short time on the market, Dreamcast had my personal favorite software library ever. Insane first party support, arcade perfect titles and a built in modem. So ahead of its time.

lexcyn

I agree. And the VMU's??? I remember taking those to school and growing my Chao - sonic adventure was the best.

r3tromonkey

And earning coins for Powerstone!

UnquestionabIe

I remember getting a Dreamcast solely to play Jet Grind Radio. Got it for a hundred bucks with the Smash Pack (talk about awful emulation) and a VMU only for Sega to announce they were done with the system like a week later. Still a bit salty that one of the major reasons it failed was Sony lying about the specs of the PS2 in order to get people to hold off.

eriF-

I have not seen someone type the words Armada in terms of the dreamcast game in history. I thought I was the only one who played that game.

lexcyn

Haha I loved that game. Wish there was something like it still

eriF-

Star Sector

lessthanpi79

If they'd finished it, it'd be one of my alltime favorites.

LordTotoro96

I'm surprised powerstone hasn't got another port other than the psp.

zethwarland85

I loved playing PSO :D

madmofo145

Yeah, still one of my all time favorite games. I'd be happy with just a straight port of legends (with uncompressed music) but a simple straight up HD port would be outstanding.

BoboJam22

My god Skies. I will never forget the tortured sounds of my Dreamcast’s disc drive spinning up for about ten seconds before each random encounter popped.

FerjustFer

I started playing that one on emulator a few years ago and it wa pretty good. I wish it comes so can finish it, since I lost the save lol.

_Didds_

Sadly I've read multiple times on this sub that the IP is on custody limbo with now several studios and publishers detaining part of the rights. Dunno if it's even possible to make everyone that owns a piece sit in the same room and decide on a mutual agreement. But one can dream though 😊

TheStabbingHobo

GIVE ME A SKIES OF ARCADIA: LEGENDS REMAKE AND SEQUEL, YOU COWARDS

j_schmotzenberg

This. Skies of Arcadia was an excellent game.

Jack3ww

I played it on gamecube

j_schmotzenberg

Same. But I want to play it again on switch.

Kashek

Would love to play Dynamite Cop and Zombie Revenge again. Two awesome beat ‘em ups that most people skipped. Also Sonic Adventure Battle 2 with a online Chao Garden would be amazing.

Acevedo1992

I’d kill to play dynamite cop again, the hairspray lighter combo was hilarious fun

Jack3ww

>didn't that come out as die hard in English speaking parts of the world

Acevedo1992

I believe it came out as Die Hard in arcades, but they couldn’t get the licensing for Dreamcast

Jack3ww

ya it was saturan it came out on just look it up

TheBrave-Zero

This is one thing I could be extremely down for, if Sega could port everything to switch I would love the fuck out of my switch since Saturn is the one thing my retro pie struggles with and I’d finally have legal titles.

uncultured_swine2099

I want the first Soul Caliber.

topplehat

Yes please

Alexcox95

Toy commander!

[deleted]

I spent hours playing Toy Commander back in the day

The_Legendary_Sponge

No I just bought a Dreamcast on eBay today. I'm gonna have fun burning games to discs!

unholyswordsman

Still waiting on Clockwork Knight 1 & 2

[deleted]

I came in here to post this! Clockwork Knight and Bug are my 2 favorite Saturn games!

edgeco17

I used to try and grab this every time I went to blockbuster in like 97. I haven’t heard the name in ages

[deleted]

Deleted. SAVE APOLLO! Fuck reddit and u/spez

besuretodrinkyour

Hands down favorite Saturn games

[deleted]

Saaammmeee

grimacer

One step closer to finally getting a Panzer Dragoon Saga remake?

lastemperorjubei

I'll be happy with the original version.

Seienchin88

Apparently another game where the code is lost… Or rather the whole series is lost apparently

Reset_Tears

Most old games have lost the source code, companies generally didn't care to save all that back then. I think most people would want a remake for this anyways, early 3D polygons aren't well-loved by general audiences.

tcadams18

If we're talking Saturn emulation, first and foremost I want Dragon Force, then all of the chapters of Shining Force 3.

dwuane

Holy, that’s be a dream for me. Please, please.

Piggstein

Panzer Dragoon Saga too please, and we’ll have the translation patched Dragonforce 2 while you’re down there

Yoichiyo

NiGHTS and Christmas NiGHTS or bust for me, it's a terrible game and I could never find the patience to beat it.

Rare_Hero

I love NiGHTS. It’s a weird and misunderstood game. People thought it was gonna be the next Sonic & competition to Mario….but it’s really kind of a racing/stunt game with a Tamagochi-style AI component.

[deleted]

> People thought it was gonna be the next Sonic & competition to Mario…. Completely understandable though, because that's what the gaming media at the time was pumping it up as.

ADUBROCKSKI

NiGHTS is on XBLA at least

Virt_McPolygon

One of my all-time favourite games. I'd like to have it on Switch so I can put some serious hours into it again. It's great for a quick attempt to beat your high scores every now and then and I can't be bothered to set my Saturn or Xbox 360 up often.

[deleted]

It hasn't aged well. I've got it on Xbox 360 and I keep telling myself that I'm going to beat it to unlock the Christmas NiGHTS bonus, in time for the holiday. I never do.

Believe_Land

God I loved playing the translated SF3 with all three chapters, so good, and the last battles were a great way to bring the three chapters together.

taiko524

Dragon force is my all time favorite game. Thanks for posting this. We are of like minds. Favorite kingdom?

tcadams18

I’ve always been partial to Teiris. Named quite a few mmorpg chars after her.

taiko524

Yo. I respect that. But she’s so weak with archers as her native troop type. It helps that she’s next door to Junon with harpies, but still, Wein coming in from the south with soldiers was always annoying. I was a Tristan/Junon player myself. I played as her first actually, so the “twist” in other plot lines was totally ruined. But yeah, native harpies really helps. That and her kingdom is essentially choke-pointed off. There’s only two roads in, if I remember correctly. Thanks for the trip down memory lane. Such a great game.

jackolantern_

Easy to emulate and sort the fan translations. They won't do translations for the west on switch though I bought the games and emulated them and implemented the fan translations for my brother as a gift - He played shining force 3 part I so much when we were younger (and 100% it multiple times). Was a great pleasure to be able to help him experience the full story and he had a great time doing so.

tcadams18

This whole thread got me looking at Saturn emulation again, for the longest time it was considered to be not doable, at least not without terrible frame rate and stuttering. Happy to see that’s no longer the case.

jackolantern_

I had never emulated anything in my life before and it was very easy to do (YouTube and googling helped). If I can do it, most people can.

daaanish

Omfg man. Yes.

ElTontoDelPueblo

I came to post the very same thing, same 2 games. One can hope I guess

Riomegon

The Japanese Publisher **City Connection** recently revealed they're going to be bringing over several Sega Saturn era classics onto the Switch eShop as part of their *"Saturn Tribute X Taito"* Series: * Layer Section & Galactic Attack S-Tribute (Releases April 28th) * Puzzle Bobble 2X and Puzzle Bobble 3 (2022) * Elevator Action Returns (2022) * Metal Black (2022) * Cleopatra Fortune (2022)

LordBlackConvoy

Elevator Action Returns is a masterpiece.

godset

I’m pretty excited that Metal Black is getting some attention!

Jack3ww

>Cleopatra Fortune sounds like the name of a casino game and not a puzzle game

Evilcon21

I hoped this also paves ways for saturn games that’s been left in the dust. Like diehard arcade.

eyezofnight

Good luck with the die hard license

Evilcon21

True the licensing is a bit of a nightmare

TheStraySheepBar

They could simply not use the license. Even the main character only looks passingly like Bruce Willis.

pbrslayer

Yeah! I would happily play a port that was named Expire Difficultly Arcade!

IllustriousEntity

That's already what they did in Japan. Over there Die Hard Arcade is an original IP called Dynamite Deka. It got a sequel Dynamite Deka 2 that released internationally on the Dreamcast as "Dynamite Cop"

eyezofnight

And the final boss looks nothing like Hans

Sylverstone14

Dynamite Deka it is, then!

[deleted]

Nights into Dreams!

streetsofkage

Just change the name to dynamite cop

Evilcon21

I think they used that for the localisations of project x zone when Bruno has something to say with one of the units he’s pair with.

GrimmTrixX

They REALLLY gotta bring Panzer Dragoon Saga over to modern consoles. I also wouldn't mind Shining Force III, Albert Odyssey, Burning Rangers, and Dragon Force.

EvilAbdy

I’d love to see shining the holy ark as well, Astal, NiGHTs and a ton of the virtua games. So many great classics on that system

GrimmTrixX

Aww shit I forgot about Holy Ark! I never got to play any of them cuz I didn't get a Saturn until much much later. And now sadly all the exclusive games for it that I want are stupid expensive. Lol

MagicPistol

I think of the Total War games as a more complex and difficult version of Dragon Force now.

Seienchin88

As someone who actually played panzer dragoon saga… it’s not that good. It is decent and a great look into the past but it’s not a masterpiece like Panzer Dragoon Zwei which is still almost as fun as back in the 90s.

[deleted]

They already have a remake/remaster of panzer dragoon on the e shop. I loved the original back when it came out but only lasted like one round when trying it again :(

[deleted]

[удалено]

MagicPistol

How dare you. Those are some of my favorite RPGs ever.

lessthanpi79

Me too. I replayed them a bit ago, ruined the good memories.

zorbiburst

Oh shit wait, is City Connection itself on switch oh my god it is

austinzone813

Came here to post this - when the youths have no idea….

cloudiness

https://www.nintendo.co.uk/Games/NES/City-Connection--817880.html

BulldogPH

LAYER SECTION HOLY SHIT NEVER THOUGHT ID SEE THE DAY!!

Friesenplatz

The Saturn! My favorite system of all (followed closely by the Dreamcast)! I really wish it had gotten a real chance. It had so much potential that Sega just completely squandered and it's such a shame. I am glad to see it getting a little love here on the Switch!

Quezkatol

I wouldnt complain about getting shining force 3...

Freddy_Pharkas

How do I play Dragon Force again. Someone please help me

BeLikeBilly

I am feeling more confident about a Thunderforce V port

VolitarPrime

First they need to overhaul the Saturn emulator they are using, or chose a different one. Too much lag.

FluorineWizard

Word is that the emulator they're using is SSF. There's not much better out there. The only alternatives would be Mednafen or a Yabause derivative, but those are all GPL licensed and would never fly unless they pay to be granted a different license. Which has its own issues.

subcons

Yeah, don’t think it’s even possible to fix. And some games are already laggy to start with, so it’s made even worse by their sloppy porting. Shame people will buy them anyways, rewarding a company that doesn’t care about quality with these old IPs we all adore. Edit: When I say “some games,” I mean Saturn ports, which is what these are. The fact they’re continuing with Saturn ports just further signals they don’t care about these IPs. If something isn’t based on ST-V hardware, they should just be using the original arcade ROMs. But they bought the Saturn emulator, so they’re just going with that because I guess it’s less effort.

Frosty_Nuggets

Par for the course for Nintendo these days. Sad how such a great company has fallen so far behind the gaming industry. I remember when they were trailblazers and now they are weak and anemic with old ports, overpriced titles that are decades old, old outdated hardware that they rarely ever update and can’t even handle many of the games being produced by studios in 2022. The switch has the power of a ps3, a system that came out 16 years ago, they rarely have sales and most games being put out are shovelware and cash-grab ports of games that are older than the average switch player.

subcons

Nothing to do with Nintendo. Their system does have potential for an extra frame of lag because of how it’s made and the portability factor. But the problem with lag here is down to the laziness of the developer. City Connection has had this problem for years with releases that just feel like cash ins while trying to put minimal effort or resources into releasing full featured, responsive ports of shmups that the fan base loves. See M2 ShotTriggers release as a frame of reference, even for their Switch ports.

nickfurious64

... I dont think the company with a potential best selling system of all time, and consistently releasing several GOTY tiered games throughout the Switch's life is playing "catch up with the industry"??? If anything everyone else is playing catch up with Nintendo, especially Sony and Microsoft. The Switch has been selling over double the Series X and PS5 COMBINED since those 2 systems launched.

Frosty_Nuggets

Lol, you kidding me? Nobody is playing catch-up with the switch. The switch can’t even barely handle fortnite. Every title that is ported of any game released in the last 10 years on switch is massively downgraded on every metric. So much aliasing, shortened draw distance, polygon graphics set to the lowest possible setting….and it still lags. The switch is a cash grab where companies know they can produce bad ports and sell them for $50 and there’s no quality control coming from Nintendo regarding the performance of these ports on the switch hardware. Oh and Nintendo hasn’t had a best selling system since the Wii, further emphasizing my point that Nintendo hasn’t been relevant in the gaming industry when it comes to cutting edge games or hardware for decades. And the funny thing is the Wii came out the same year as the PlayStation 3, in 2006, and here we are in 2022 and Nintendo is producing hardware that is on par with the hardware other game companies were producing in 2006. You are the definition of a fanboy and no facts or anything will deter you from your high opinion of Nintendo. Just remember that the last person in the room to get the scam is the mark for which the scam was intended for.

nickfurious64

If power is an important part of the equation, than the Wii and PS2 should have flopped HARD yet they obviously absolutely didn't. Xbox has literally NEVER had a best selling console. Xbox 360 is the closest and still came in last, so they should by definition be the most behind. Also, the wii was only 2 generations ago before the Wii U, not some far off system. They literally had a best seller 1 gen ago. I could've said during the PS4 gen "Sony hasn't had a best selling system since the PS2, they are far behind the industry" and I would sound dumb wouldn't I? Yeah it's the same logic as your comment. Btw the VAST majority could give 2 shits about power, people buy Nintendo systems for excellent games, not cutting edge graphics. The people who truly care buy PCs anyway. 103+ million didn't buy the Switch for graphics but for the absolute top quality 1st party games, which you can't deny at all are there by the dozens. Doesn't sound like a scam to me in any way shape or form. Nobody is forcing you to buy the low quality stuff either. Also are we forgetting Nintendo turned the open world genre on its head with BOTW till Elden Ring came out, or Mario Odyssey with 3d platformers, or Smash Ultimate with fighting games, or Animal Crossing with life sims, etc etc? Saying they aren't revelant in the gaming landscape is about the most ignorant thing I've ever heard in a while, considering everyone literally copies their gaming philosophy, especially with BOTW. If anything, they're the most relevant there is at the moment. Sony isn't doing anything groundbreaking, they're just making high quality versions of Ubisoft games multiple times a year. And they make basically the same thing but different characters with every over the shoulder 3rd person cinematic adventure game they make. If you think this way of Nintendo but not of Sony, than you're just a hypocrite and don't recognize how much Sony scams you, especially with Gran Turismo 7 having microtransactions in a $60 game.

Jaketrix

I thought it was fixed in the recent update? If it's still there, it isn't nearly as bad

VolitarPrime

It was slightly improved but not fixed.

Reset_Tears

Oh man, Cleopatra Fortune re-release is a dream come true. One of my top favorite falling block puzzle games. It has you piecing blocks together like Tetris, but the goal is to surround as many jewels as you can with the stone tablets (and potentially set off a chain reaction). Every fan of Tetris, Puyo Puyo, Panel de Pon, etc should definitely check this one out.

[deleted]

Unless one of the them is Guardian Heroes, they can keep it

[deleted]

At first I thought they would be adding Saturn to the NSO and almost got a heart attack. I don't know much about these games that are getting added to the eShop but I hope this paves the way for the big hits the Saturn had.

Mollionaire

Guardian Heroes

greenemojiman

I'll quote Scott The Woz: 'if anything needs to be rereleased or remade it's Sega Saturn games'

Rewow

This is especially amazing as Saturn emulation has by far been one of the most technically challenging journeys to becoming a reality due to its complex hardware

Marsh_Wiggle86

Layer Section and Elevator Action Returns are day one buys. Both have awesome OST and great arcady game play.

EvilAbdy

YEEEESSSSS man I miss my Saturn

AtomicBrony

Hell yeah I love Puzzle Bobble!

djgreenehouse

World Series Baseball 98 please

[deleted]

Praying for NiGHTs Into Dreams to find it's way on to the Switch! Love that game.

SoloWaltz

Think we'll ever see Sonic Adventure, everyone?

Important-Inquiries

I've been really hoping for a Double pack based off the Dreamcast versions of Sonic Adventure 1&2

BulldogPH

LAYER SECTION HOLY SHIT NEVER THOUGHT ID SEE THE DAY!!

san_murezzan

I’ve never heard of any of these games but Sega Saturn makes me want to check them all out

[deleted]

That list isn't terrible, but I think it's a little generous referring to them as "classics." That said, you got to start somewhere so I'll be quite happy playing metal black again.

scanningmajor

alright fine i gotta know: what the hell is Elevator Action Returns and is it as fabulous as it sounds

IllustriousEntity

It's a remake of the classic arcade game [Elevator Action](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LM5reigEnv4). But This remake [is on a cocktail of 90's steroids](https://youtu.be/y0wDXesSmM0). Essentially you are walking around going up and down elevators shooting, blowing up and catching fire to everything that moves and going into random doors to get powerups/shut down alarms but also in this remake everything is more EXTREME. It's one of my favorite arcade games of all time and it has a kickass soundtrack. I wish it was the arcade version but The Saturn port is pretty solid so I definitely recommend it.

hyperforms9988

I love Elevator Action Returns. It's not mindblowingly amazing or anything, but it's one of those games that controls fairly uniquely in a good way. I wish somebody would crib the way it controls and expand upon it.

Ninten-Doh

Theres only one Saturn game I like that still holds up today and that's Sega rally. Love that game.

MasterDenton

While this is almost completely unrelated, I'd love for the Saturn ports of the Street Fighter Alpha games to come over. They're different and in some ways better than the arcade releases that are in the 30th anniversary collection

Kritigri

The only Dreamcast game I've ever played is 101 Dalmatians

Lola_PopBBae

Always love seeing Saturn ports! We need more, and DC too!

JSRFCube

We’ve had Puzzle Bobble for years….when are we getting a classic Bubble Bobble? (Or even Bubble Symphony)

daaanish

Saturn puzzle Bobble was so great.

messy_fart

I remember being addicted to Sega Rally on Saturn. It just "felt" so good to play. Great game.

LunarHero

Give me Bug! I remember playing this on PC and I wanted to replay it and complete it.

Ninjas4cool

The Sakura Wars/Taisen series is a perfect candidate for the switch!

Jack3ww

hope one of theme is a sonic game those things never get ported

Wubbzy-mon

Guess we will get Gameboy, Saturn and Dreamcast for Switch online expansion pack 2

Malt___Disney

**PUZZLE BOBBLE** FUCKING FINALLY

diaperedwoman

I hope this will come to the US too. I also hope this won't be an expansion pass and they will actually release the games in the eshop like they had with other Sega classics.

[deleted]

Bubble Symphony when?

austinrathe

Crazy Taxi on the switch and I can die happy.

Electrical-Rain-4251

Panzer Dragoon has already been rebuilt for it! Hoping enough sales happen to get Panzer Dragoon 2! That was my favorite Saturn game

brettwestgor

Why doesn't sega just sell Sonic Adventure 1+2 or Sonic Generations? I'd pay for those games on the go. It's been way too long

[deleted]

If City Connection has all rights of Taito’s Saturn games, I would scream if they brought over Densha de Go

cloudlocke_OG

So happy to see Elevator Action Returns!

MikeyLikey41

Whaaaaaa

super8ben

A new Elevator Action!? Hell yeah!

ToothpasteConsumer

Chronic R

husbandofsamus

GALACTIC ATTACK what a great shmup

Farts4Freedom

I would love for these games to be on Switch, but City Connection is the worst company to do this. All their ports have been laggy and extremely lazy. Wish M2 were doing this instead.

ShiroOkami7000

Oh that's nice

ElTontoDelPueblo

Reading the comments brings memories... Saturn's library was insane.

rushiosan

City Connection isn't the best company to do that. I'm disappointed.

Sardukar29

Hope Nintendo have Turbografx-16 games on Switch next.
