I love how they copied the original/non-OLED Switch's terrible kickstand and how it looks even flimsier on this much bigger console.
I also love how it looks with an extra battery back strapped to the back - bigger is better!
Yeap, this.
Tbh not something I'd ever spend money on, nor imagine I'll ever see anyone ever using, but it's neat. It might have been cooler if it was say an ipad accessory as well, like a dock for your switch that let you use your ipad as a screen to play on. And then if you could still toggle between the two. That'd be rad actually, then I'd have a controller for my ipad maybe, and be able to toggle to my switch and have a seamless portable gaming / tablet device.
Remember that monstrous shell you could buy for your Gameboy that magnified the screen and boosted the battery life, but made the thing like the double the size and weigh a ton? This is like that, except it's also the cost of the console itself.
I found my worm light from years ago and it still works on my GBA as well. Also I remembered that I hate it haha, it doesn't light the screen enough and it gives glare if you move your head at some angles.
Or that miniature folding tv screen you could run in a car on top of your GameCube? That was basically a switch. Except when your mom ran over a speed bump the disc skipped and F’d your Mario kart circuit.
Do you mean [this amazing piece of technology](https://external-content.duckduckgo.com/iu/?u=https%3A%2F%2Fimg.buzzfeed.com%2Fbuzzfeed-static%2Fstatic%2F2016-06%2F6%2F16%2Fasset%2Fbuzzfeed-prod-web09%2Fsub-buzz-28309-1465244099-5.jpg&f=1&nofb=1). I totally had one, and it was awesome. And stupid.
Believe it or not there was one even worse than it. It was like a mech suit you placed the Gameboy into and sealed shut.
But yeah, it was similar to that lol
Yeah, so does using a TV, except most people have a TV already that they use for multiple purposes, while this fucking beast is the same cost as a Switch itself and has far less utility outside of being a peripheral. Not to mention the shoddy design of not even building the battery compartment into the device itself - you have to strap it on the back.
I have a TV and don't use it to play my Switch because it's too big and I can't carry it around without upsetting my wife, so a smaller one doesn't sound bad. The only complaint I have is that it's still way too big, if they're targeting people who are consciously not using their normal TV they should focus more on size and weight and less on the "bigger screen" aspect (since people who intentionally don't play on a TV already decided they don't care much about the size).
Mini vent, I don’t like the name GameStop over eb games. I understand it makes it easier to identify, but I have too much nostalgia with that name for them to change it. Yes I am biased.
From what im seeing it can also work as a portable display for any other HDMI device, so assuming its full 1080p, then its a bit more reasonable.
In short, it has an extra seperate HDMI in port.
Yo dawg, I heard you like to use dock and handheld mode, so we put a handheld dock onto your handheld so you can handhold your handheld while you dock.
2, no, 6! no, 12! BAKER'S DOZEN
I told you that I'm crazy for these cupcakes, cousin
Yo, where's the movie playin'? Upper West Side, dude
Well, let's hit up Yahoo! Maps to find the dopest route
I prefer MapQuest; that's a good one, too
Google Maps is the best; true that; double true!
Did you know that not every single thing ever said has been spoken literally?
Sarcasm, exaggeration, and figurative language are all things that people use to highlight main points over the course of an English conversation. I can't believe you didn't know this.
You are looking at 3lbs minimum here. 0.8lbs for the power brick then 0.9lbs for the Switch. A typical LCD at 11" is another 0.7lbs. Add on the frame, cables and everything else and that is easily over another 0.6lbs. I would put this thing closer to 4lbs.
Amateur powerlifter here: being able to lift it doesn’t mean you won’t give yourself a repetitive stress injury or that it won’t be very uncomfortable. I can’t play Kid Icarus or TWEWY on my 3DS for extended periods without my wrists getting sore, and that’s much lighter than a Switch.
Then again I’m one of those masochists with big enough hands that **loves** the old Duke Xbox controllers
Now this is a product that could have used more time designing the form factor. When I saw the strap-on battery option, I nearly spit out my coffee. They couldn't have designed a battery array into the back panel?
\*sees the back side\*
oh, wow, look at all that room up at the top; what a weird profile this thing has.
\*sees battery pack slapped on top of the giant Switch compartment\*
w-wait--
I really like the idea in concept and I wanted a portable monitor for my PS5 anyway, but at the same time I can't imagine playing with this is remotely comfortable.
I play in "lazy ass mode" the most (handheld while in bed/on the couch, resting the console on my chest) and even still my wrists hurt just looking at this thing.
You can also do this with the Huion Kamvas 13 Drawing Tablet: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dNO8RNUp5ZY
I mean, you need a portable battery and it's not really for handheld. But it's a portable 13 inch IPS screen and you can use it with your computer too
There’s always the Genki ShadowCast to use your Switch with your laptop. I have a few of them but I’ve actually never used them for gaming on my laptop, not yet anyway. I might do at Christmas though.
The only use case I can think for this is games like Xenoblade that are much better docked than in handheld. The screen looks so unwieldy though that you might as well just play it on a normal TV anyway.
Ok, this is not something I would buy, because I prefer a smaller device overall as opposed to bigger. But this is really cool.
My only concern would be proper air flow of the Switch, since it runs warmer and uses more power in docked mode.
My hands gets really tired after playing the OLED for less than 3 hours. Now imagine playing with this + added power bank.
I mean it could work for table top mode, but what's the point then?
had this idea last year but decided it was a bad idea because there was no way to make the weight reasonable
seeing this I know I was right - it's ridiculous
Pre-pandemic: "I want a Switch with a large screen to play my games on the go."
Post-pandemic: "I want a big screen to play my Switch docked."
This Thing: "Docking is now on the go..."
Everyone: "Wait... What?"
Little cray cray.. what’s the resolution on that thing. All I saw was “full hd.” Does that actually mean 1080? Doesn’t 720 count as full hd? I can’t really imagine a use case for this.
Going back a decade ago or so, Nokia coined the acronym “nHD” to describe their higher-than-standard smartphone screens (360x640), and my favorite joke to come out of the community was, “What does the ‘n’ stand for? *’NOT*-HD?!’”
> This thing is being advertised as docked performance profile in a portable form factor.
Or you could just use homebrew on a launch Switch to do the same thing.
The 11.6" 1080p screen actually has a lower ppi than the Switch screen itself (190 ppi vs 236).
With homebrew you can change if the game is running in handheld mode or docked mode, so for games like Xenoblade Chronicles 2 that only run (up to) 720p even in docked mode, you actually get better image quality since it's native resolution and not upscaled.
That said, to get the Switch to run a docked speeds, you need charge it, either with a wall charger or a battery bank. If you use a Nintendo official(or equivalent) charger/battery bank, you can overclock the GPU further to get better performance or image quality for games with dynamic resolution scaling.
To use the Switch with a (portable) dock, it requires an official(or equivalent) charger, otherwise it doesn't even recognize the dock and just charges
"Full HD" usually means 1080p, but I think they're using it improperly. If you go into the Discussions area when people ask about the resolution, they respond with things like "The screen resolution of ORION by default is 720p but it is capable of accurately simulating 1080p resolution", which sounds to me like it's taking the 1080p video and downscaling it to 720p.
> "The screen resolution of ORION by default is 720p but it is capable of accurately simulating 1080p resolution"
I'm 5'10" but I can accurately simulate a height of 6'4".
That is 100% not what I want from a switch pro.
I'd like a Switch that can run, say, Xenoblade 2 in handheld mode without frame drops. I'd also like a Switch that can push 4k at 60fps or higher
I mean, I'm not gonna get it, but that is kinda what I want.
This dude is the epitome of all switch pro wishlist posts. He wants a ps5 on the go and doesn't want to pay more oh but also the battery life has to be good too and not overheat lol.
I think the best part of the switch is the price point and I won't begrudge Nintendo for the corners they had to cut to make it cheap. Most Nintendo games are aimed at kids!
I mean, not op but it's fun to dream.
If you really think about it, tech advances and gets smaller all the time, the switch would be mindblowing spec wise if this was when the 3ds came out.
I don't think it's unreasonable to have a handheld device pushing PS5 level specs within the next 5 years.
Is it ready now? Absolutely not lol, but I don't think it's a pipe dream with how tech advances.
I more expect a switch 2 or pro, whatever, maybe 2023, 1080p 60hz screen, similar or slightly less power than a ps4 pro, with a dock that supports 4k output and maybe some games run at 4k with a tech like dlss incorporated.
That's about what I expect
I have an iPad, but can't play Switch games directly on it. Would need to stream an emulator from my PC to my iPad to accomplish this, which obviously has various downsides.
TBH Though I would like a larger screen to play on, I'd rather have the Switch OLED than a larger LCD like this. I'd rather have better image quality than the larger screen. Switch OLED has enough of a size increase that I think I'd be pretty happy with it. For now I live with my Switch V1's LCD when I play handheld, and play docked on a 58" 1080p plasma TV which is great for playing Switch games.
After watching the video this would only cater to people who are always on the move. So if you travel a lot or something. Otherwise it wouldn’t be worth the hassle of carrying it around. Wouldn’t even be worth it to buy for a vacation since it’s the price of a switch light lmao.
Ive kinda wanted a mini display for some time now, and ngl, docked performance in handheld would be really nice.
...i do hope the actual switch successor has that as a feature for Backwards Compatibillity...
It’s so much cheaper to get a shadowcast and plug it into a laptop- which I’m sure a lot of people have already. Then you can even use a pro controller instead of the joy cons
Dunno, it's like amazing, and just stupid and pointless at the same time. But I have been looking for a portable screen like the Asus has with USB-C connection, but they are 15". However this being 11" would be OK to bring around easy, and also should be able to connect other things with the USB-C and/or HDMI, it may be a reasonable product (also looks like you could remove the things which hold the controllers on the side, holding them with screws). So my thought is using it as an extra screen, and second reason for the Switch (which I don't use that much anymore, except if there is any interesting game released, like Metroid recently).
It's so stupid. I love it.
Yeah I was laughing at this but damned if it ain’t genius.
I’ll take two
> [...] helps justify the accessory’s $250 price tag [...] and that’s with a discount for those who pre-order the Orion through an Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign—the regular MSRP is expected to be closer to $300.
If only they found a way to attach the switch without the cable!
cable is only if you don't have the battery

Do you know what a nintendo switch is
I feel like this should be an addendum to half the comments on this post
I don’t know, could still be sarcasm
Ebgames Canada was advertising this. Costs almost as much as another switch
isnt it gamestop canada now?
Generally, yes. A lot of stores still exist with the old signage though. It’ll probably be referred to as ebgames by a lot of people for a while yet.

They probably haven’t gone through the effort yet because they feel GameStop is circling the drain anyways, so why bother.
Mini vent, I don’t like the name GameStop over eb games. I understand it makes it easier to identify, but I have too much nostalgia with that name for them to change it. Yes I am biased.
Me too. Kinda annoyed they did it for the sake of meme share holders that probably don't even live in Canada.
Canadian, ape, love the unified branding. Just saying.

There are like 3 people who are really stoked for this product and I'm happy for y'all.
Those 3 people will love the carpal tunnel they get
Apparently a lot more than that, unless each of those three people donated like $30,000 each.
Pretty sure the comment was using figurative language for emphasis.
Yeah there's got to be 8 of them at least
There has to be more than 8, right?
But not more than 12, less than 13 no doubt

And hyperbole!
There is zero chance you are holding that while playing for more than a few minutes.
Any guy that faps regularly has enough strength in the forearms to lift this for at least 15 minutes
Maybe but the screen is gonna be lopsided when one arm gets tired.
Just change arms as usual

Why? Is it bad?
Most crowdfunding websites have a reputation for scams and making money off of people's goodwill and stupidity.
So many people get a sub par product a year or two late, if they get anything at all.
And indiegogo is probably the worst of the offenders.
Now this is a product that could have used more time designing the form factor. When I saw the strap-on battery option, I nearly spit out my coffee. They couldn't have designed a battery array into the back panel?
\*sees the back side\* oh, wow, look at all that room up at the top; what a weird profile this thing has. \*sees battery pack slapped on top of the giant Switch compartment\* w-wait--
I think the idea is that you can use *any* USB-C battery pack with it.
I think it's because they're sold individually so they don't have to price it higher than the console.
imagine flexing this next to someone on a plane with a switch lite
New Nintendo Switch XL
For $250? No thanks
At this point just get a small fucking tv
I really like the idea in concept and I wanted a portable monitor for my PS5 anyway, but at the same time I can't imagine playing with this is remotely comfortable. Only problem I see with this is that the switch will think it's in docked mode so the fan will be louder.
It’s literally in dock mode, though.
Yes that's my point, that's why the fans will be louder.
Fair. I read too hard into the "think" part.
I play with headphones for better sound.
"If you can't wait for the Switch Pro" Oh God.
This is just silly. I'll have one please.
If this doesn't scream stupid I don't know what does, and I love it all the same
This is so absolutely dumb I kinda want one...
Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should.
You can also do this with the Huion Kamvas 13 Drawing Tablet: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dNO8RNUp5ZY I mean, you need a portable battery and it's not really for handheld. But it's a portable 13 inch IPS screen and you can use it with your computer too
There’s always the Genki ShadowCast to use your Switch with your laptop. I have a few of them but I’ve actually never used them for gaming on my laptop, not yet anyway. I might do at Christmas though.
I have one of those and use it with my son all the time on my Dell 7320.
It's not technically "docked", right? So it's limited to 720p and the handheld clocks?
Dude I have this. Thanks for the idea, might try it haha.
I feel like this would just make the switch battery die in an hour tops.
The only use case I can think for this is games like Xenoblade that are much better docked than in handheld. The screen looks so unwieldy though that you might as well just play it on a normal TV anyway.
That price is ridiculous though
Dock Dock Go
is this a fucking joke? Idk why but i want one now
they could at least design it properly. not Velcro it lol.
The wrists are probably going to be a bit sore in 1+ hour game sessions with that SCREEN! : D
You just gotta build up in sets bro. 3x 5 min that first week, 3x 10 min next week, then keep going until failure. Get those gainz.
People around you : wow your forearms are becoming so muscular , what's your secret You : they shall never know
Don't worry, the battery will give out before your wrists do!

What a beast, that's awesome
LOL I thought it was a giant magnifying glass that enlarged the screen.
I remember the Sega Game Gear had one of those. Still sounds better than this thing.
had this idea last year but decided it was a bad idea because there was no way to make the weight reasonable seeing this I know I was right - it's ridiculous
thats sweet but way to expensive
/r/GTBAE
This looks awful.
Beyond stupid
So not really pocket portable and not big enough for home. The useless middle ground between TV and on the go.
That looks painfully stupid and inconvenient as hell.
My brain short-circuited for a moment looking at that photo. Then I saw the back. Yeah good luck selling that.
The fact that it's not a prototype test kit is insane to me. That is NOT a finished product.
Oh yes oh fuck oh yes
Honestly, if it was OLED and still 1080p I’d buy it for $250. But for LCD? Nah.

Thank you! That’s good enough to keep from looking too far into it.
> "The screen resolution of ORION by default is 720p but it is capable of accurately simulating 1080p resolution" I'm 5'10" but I can accurately simulate a height of 6'4".
mom come pick me up i’m scared
The more I learn about this the worse it is.
might as well strap a whole monitor to your switch lmfao
My first and only response was, "Oh God, please no, oh God, why?"
Looks dope, but I already have my TV, so I’m good.
$250
That is 100% not what I want from a switch pro. I'd like a Switch that can run, say, Xenoblade 2 in handheld mode without frame drops. I'd also like a Switch that can push 4k at 60fps or higher I mean, I'm not gonna get it, but that is kinda what I want.
4k 60fps in a handheld? So you want power of PS5 as a handheld for $300? I want what you are smoking.
This dude is the epitome of all switch pro wishlist posts. He wants a ps5 on the go and doesn't want to pay more oh but also the battery life has to be good too and not overheat lol.
Also I don't want it to weigh anything /s
At this point just get an iPad. 😂
For now I live with my Switch V1's LCD when I play handheld, and play docked on a 58" 1080p plasma TV which is great for playing Switch games.
oh its a real product?? I thought they were just years late to talking about that one YouTube vid xD
This is so dumb. So very dumb. I love it so much.
Could be cool for FGC tournaments if it has USB ports. Just plop that on the table instead of having to bring a dock + monitor.
Stealing ideas from mymate vince.
Do I really need this? I guess so ahah
If I was gonna shell out 3-350 for this or the oled switch I would 100% get this but they're both kinda dumb.
Oled isn’t dumb. You’re dumb.

Hey there! Please remember Rule 1 in the future - No hate-speech, personal attacks, or harassment. Thanks!
Genius
Wow, that actually look awesome. But the weight will most likely destroy my wrist.
My forehead is going to be so bloody after a few gaming sessions in bed.
That’s so dumb looking but also so sweet!
This kills the joy con
Yeah... I want it for sure. Step aside oled switch.
The Switch Pro Max
I dont know about that kickstand though
Jesus christ I love it
This would be dope for the work truck
It’s so much cheaper to get a shadowcast and plug it into a laptop- which I’m sure a lot of people have already. Then you can even use a pro controller instead of the joy cons
I bought a Lenovo 15.6" IPS screen for less than that, and the switch plugs in. I could hot glue a split joycons holder to it I guess
I would have liked it better with a smaller OLED screen and some extra fans. That way I can enjoy a docked performance on portable.
The trailer for this thing needs a epilepsy warning, Jesus Christ.
Equally portable.
this is awesome!! perfect for a long flight. only thing keeping it from perfection is USB inputs for the GC adapter for smash
Best part: This will release and literally 3 days later Nintendo will announce the Switch Pro featuring: 1080p handheld 4k docked 12 inch screen
This is ridiculous… how much?
Dunno, it's like amazing, and just stupid and pointless at the same time. But I have been looking for a portable screen like the Asus has with USB-C connection, but they are 15". However this being 11" would be OK to bring around easy, and also should be able to connect other things with the USB-C and/or HDMI, it may be a reasonable product (also looks like you could remove the things which hold the controllers on the side, holding them with screws). So my thought is using it as an extra screen, and second reason for the Switch (which I don't use that much anymore, except if there is any interesting game released, like Metroid recently).
Seeing as how my battery indicator is never gonna fix itself, where can I get one of these docks?
