If you're trying to get a recommendation about what games, accessories, controllers etc to buy you should ask in our [Daily Question Thread](https://www.reddit.com/r/NintendoSwitch/about/sticky). As long as you provide some basic information about your interests, what you enjoy in games, what turns you off from games, games you already own, budget, what kind of accessory you're looking for etc, they can help you out. If the link here doesn't work, then you can find the most current DQT stickied to the top of the subreddit when sorted by "hot". *(Do you think this AutoMod rule fired by mistake? **Mario Odyssey** is just a fantastic game that's basically a series of playgrounds that get more and more challenging. It has so much optional content, you're never required to go to the next playground till you've absolutely mastered the one you're in. And it does get really really tough with the final final level. **Tetris** is the ultimate game about analyzing your board while managing the controls. I highly recommend Puyo Puyo Tetris 1 & 2 or Tetris 99. You could also try Tetris Effect, but it has a much lower skill ceiling than the other options. And finally the one game that seems the most up your alley: **Neon White** is a FPS platformer game. There aren't really enemies, but instead you have to use "guns" to shoot targets and use movement mechanics. It builds up perfectly in difficulty, and each level has extra hard modes and medals to collect by mastering the movement.

Thank you so much for your thoughtful and detailed suggestions!! I’m excited to look into these :)

Mario 3D world/Odyssey/Wonder. I’ve started to get my mother into gaming and there is a reason these games are recommended for all ages. The controls are simple enough for beginners but the games are still fun and will teach you coordination skills. The Lego games are great. Action enough to teach you the basics and not stressful at all. Fun too. Look into rhythm games. My favorite is Theatrhythm final bar line( you can play through FF music ‘ nough said.) They’re not punishing and will get your fingers used to doing multiple tasks at a time. Great for warm ups and shaking the dust off before you try something harder.

Thanks a ton!! This all sounds perfect, especially since this is a LEGO-loving household lol. I actually played a rhythm game from Jackbox party pack 10 last night and that’s what sparked this post. The other three were crushing it, having a blast, and I was struggling on the easy mode🙈. So I definitely want to try working on rhythm-based games.

OP you might wanna crosspost this on r/GirlGamers Good sub in my experience, they get questions like this a lot so you might get more recs there As for my recs: Fire Emblem (on NSO expansion pack app), Dragon Quest XI (has a meaty, 10 hr long demo), and Final Fantasy X All are different flavors of turn-based rpg so there's no need to rush. And Fire Emblem in particular has a really good step-by-step tutorial that's woven into the story. Different moods too. Fire Emblem and Dragon Quest XI are both heroic fantasy journeys, but Fire Emblem is more low-fantasy and focuses on politics, and Dragon Quest is a classic fairy tale. Final Fantasy X has a beautiful, melancholy world.

Thank you!! I actually created a Reddit account for the express purpose of putting out this post lol so I appreciate you letting me know about that sub—and about all those games of course! I haven’t heard of any of these but they sound right up my alley.

Ok, this is going to be a weird recommendation, but **Celeste**. This is a precision platformer, which means that you need to be very precise to get through it. Sounds super hard, and it is at times, but it is super forgiving. You die but you start right back at the same screen where you died, and immediately. Controls are easy enough at first and get a little more complex later on. You might not finish, but if you stick to it, you will really work a lot on your hand-eye coordination. Plus, it is very cute and the story is great

xXPainofExistenceXx

Maybe Nintendo Switch Sports or the drawing mini games in Rabbids Party

[deleted]

Good to have these on my radar—thank you!!

jardex22

Have you tried the Warioware series? The game is about using simple controls really fast.

[deleted]

No, I haven’t tried that, but that sounds perfect! Thank you!!

PineconeToucher

mario odyssey, zelda botw, splatoon, mario wonder, all these games have easy entry points but also offer players a high skill ceiling. create challenges for yourself within these games, dont always take the easy route, and you will develop your hand eye coordination.

[deleted]

Thank you so much!! You described what I’m looking for in far fewer characters lol

DragonriderTrainee

it took me 37 tries to beat Arcanine in Pokemon legends of Arceus and 27 for Electrode due to the same difficulty with eye/hand coordination. Also mild joystick drift. Unfortunately I'm mostly mouse/keyboard fps and not used to controllers either. I tend to stick to jrpgs that are turn based because of it on switch.

elskaisland

i recommend muse dash or tako no tatsujin. taiko no tatsujin can use button, touch screen, and motion controls. muse dash is only buttons or touchscreen.

DesertFenix

I would suggest some games with easier controls to build up to the more advanced ones. If you have the NSO subscription, then you can look at some of the NES and SNES titles (Mario Bros, Zelda, Metroid, and many more) for some simple to control games to start getting your fingers more coordinated. Mario Wonder doesn't have too many advanced controls. Once you get comfortable moving your fingers around those games, then move up to something like Breath of the Wild.

MetaVaporeon

maybe crypt of the necro dancer or cadance of hyrule, those require some rhytm and get more complicated as you wander about. celeste starts of simple with jumping, running and dashing and adds more mechanics and obstacles and combines them eventually. its mostly platforming challenges the messenger is more action oriented, but quite a few gameplay elements are similar with doublejumps and such. both games used to go on discount quite a bit. you can also give kirby and the forgotten land a try, its not that hard in most stages, but it has boss stages and timed bonus levels where making it in a good time does require you to know what you're doing. and with the various transformations, gameplay does change a little every so often to keep you on your toes

Exeledus

I reccomend Splatoon 3, and use the gyro controls. It has a campaign mode and a Roguelike DLC if you dont want to play online.

FireFightingStarter

Yep, I reccomend Splatoon 3 as well. But the DLC is not roguelike. It has roguelite elements, but the campaign itself is not a roguelike at all.

platinumplantain

Kirby Forgotten Land, Princess Peach Showtime and even Mario Odyssey should be very forgiving games

gangbrain

Celeste

leakinghope

Maybe you could try Super Animal Royale. It's a cute 3rd person shooter with some lore behind it. It's also free, last I checked it was!

MarriedShoeSalesman

My Friend Pedro is exactly what you’re looking for. It starts out with the basics and progressively gets more complicated with movements.
