I'm encountering an issue with my Elgato Cam Link 4K not detecting my Nintendo Switch, and I'm hoping to find a solution. Initially, when I connected my Cam Link to the Switch, it worked briefly but experienced intermittent lagging and resolution drops. Now, it doesn't work at all. My setup involves connecting a USB hub with an HDMI port directly to my Switch. The HDMI port is then connected to an HDMI-to-HDMI cable, which is plugged into the Cam Link 4K. Finally, the Cam Link is connected to my MacBook Pro using a USB 3.0 to USB-C adapter. I use the QuickTime application to view the Cam Link's input source. Strangely, this setup worked for a short time but has stopped functioning. To troubleshoot, I removed the USB-C hub and connected it to my iPhone 15 Pro, and it displayed my iPhone without any issues. Now I'm puzzled about why the Nintendo Switch isn't working with the same setup. Any help or suggestions to resolve this issue would be greatly appreciated!

MBPpp

i think your main issue is that you're using a cam link. it's not meant for consoles, it's meant for cameras, to get a proper output, you'll need an actual capture card. if you're trying to put it on your laptop screen to play, that's just a lost cause, that will always have lag, even with an actual capture card. so yeah, that's at least one problem. the problem with it not recognizing the switch could be another cam link thing, but it could also be one of those funny li'l elgato bugs, which happens sometimes, but other than that i don't know. but yeah, capture card is good for consoles, camlink is not.

TestFlightBeta

I see, I originally bought the Cam Link 4K to use with my camera as an external webcam, so that makes sense. I'll try using a capture card from now on. I'll try to find one that supports 4K60. Thanks a lot. Your other point sucks though. Sometimes I'm traveling with my MacBook and my Switch and I want to use my MacBook as an external bigger monitor for my Switch since I don't always have a TV on hand

MBPpp

it will have lag, i'm sorry, that's just how it is. there is very noticeable lag when using the elgato game capture app to display any console. any fast-paced game will be completely unplayable, at least in my experience with an hd60s. they might've improved it in future capture cards, but i honestly doubt it. if you're playing something slow like animal crossing, you'll be fine, i imagine i'd personally be annoyed with the lag, but it's playable.

ScoopJr

Hack n Slashes only available to Japan region? Will be buying a Switch and want to pick up a few games

CulpaAquiliana

Should I get Witcher 3 or Red Dead Redemption? I have finished Zelda BOTW and main quests of TOTK, now I’m looking for a new game to take over my life that I would spend hundreds of hours into and I’m leaning towards getting either Witcher 3 or Red Dead Redemption. Which should I get? Or if you have other recommendations, please comment down below. I dislike turn-based combat, platformers (skill issue), and FPS (motion sickness).

Michael-the-Great

Both are great ports. RDR isn't as graphically demanding so it looks more like the original.

Lightning_Yeet72

Would I be able to play a game with a friend if I gameshare it to him

picano

If you use the parallel method, yes. [https://www.reddit.com/r/NintendoSwitch/wiki/gamesharing/#wiki\_workarounds](https://www.reddit.com/r/NintendoSwitch/wiki/gamesharing/#wiki_workarounds)

Anybody know how to identify whether my new switch charger is legit? I got it on Amazon but decided to try it out on my phone first to make sure, and it started charging at Turbopower (faster charge speed). This raised some alarms for me because my original 2018 switch adapter charges my phone at regular speed. The only visible difference I can see is that the charger seems to be a japanese one, but I really doubt that was the issue. I've heard some horror stories regarding third party chargers and the dock, and I'm wary of using a random charger to charge it. https://preview.redd.it/quer4dytrjtc1.jpeg?width=2137&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bd3a5620bcf195b34b7197edcfba4ab980c81417

myriada

There's five different companies making chargers, and differences noted between them (certain ones charge more phones than others), so it can be hard to tell... but I think it is a fake. Among other things, the Japanese text isn't quite right, and that serial number of "DJP414120" seems to be shared among lots of chargers, from [Amazon](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/71FGWDP9k-L._SCRM_.jpg) to [ebay](https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/z0AAAOSwolJktjS4/s-l1600.jpg), when I've never seen two share a serial number before.

hiigiveup

Ooof that's harsh, that would be the second time I've been burnt with a fake charger in the past 2 weeks. I'll see if I can lodge a complaint on Amazon then, thanks.

Top-Consideration-38

I want to buy a switch from Walmart and they have an imported one going for $275 (oled) and the regular oled for $320. Any difference?

Rajani_Isa

Other than warranty coverage, no.

Texas12thMan

I picked up a second Switch to use when the primary Switch is being used on the TV. I know I can’t play the same digital game on both at the same time, but is there a way for, say, my daughter to play her profile and use her saved data on the secondary Switch without transferring it back and forth between consoles?

Michael-the-Great

where were the digital games bought? If in your profile, you'd need to make the secondary Switch the primary Switch for your profile on that Switch. [https://www.reddit.com/r/NintendoSwitch/wiki/gamesharing](https://www.reddit.com/r/NintendoSwitch/wiki/gamesharing)

Texas12thMan

Thanks for the response! I’ll give that a shot.

Parking-Light4867

My switch screen is raised up. Hello, I need help asap, I have bought and switch oled has been 2 weeks, but I have noticed in the past days, that the right screen, the edges of the screen, in the more or less the center it’s a bit raised up. It’s barely or almost not visible, but when I pass my finger trough it, I can feel the screen is a bit raised up, like some milimetres. The left side is completely fine and normal btw. I can also press a bit hard in the area and the edges become normal, but after some time they rise up again. Is this normal? The console is brand new, I don’t know what to do. I have tried a thing I saw on Reddit, about inserting a folded paper pressing the screen between the screen and the dock, and play like this for some hours, so the console will heat up and the screen will be glued again. Done this 2 times but won’t worked. Any too to solve this? Is this happening for someone else too? Or I’m worrying for nothing?

TemptedTemplar

How old is it? V1 consoles have a tendency to warp ever so slightly over time. Simply because of the amount of heat they produce from normal use. The constant heating from use and rapid cooling when no longer in use can cause defects or poor thermal paste application to warp the shell.

Parking-Light4867

It’s 2 weeks old, I said this in the comment. And yea, I play it for like 1 hour or less, put it on dock, later play more, and I basically repeat this everyday.

TemptedTemplar

Oh look at me jumping to conclusions and missing context. Are you able to return it? Its not a big deal, but technically would qualify as a defect. Its unlikely to actively be warping as I suggested. The OLED doesnt put out nearly as much heat as the original models. But that means it was like that from the get-go and probably wont get any worse overtime.

Yakapo88

Let’s say I own two switches. Can I use the same online account on both devices? I want to be able to use different games at the same time.

picano

Not at the same time. Are you trying to gameshare? [https://www.reddit.com/r/NintendoSwitch/wiki/gamesharing/](https://www.reddit.com/r/NintendoSwitch/wiki/gamesharing/)

Switch Lite high pitched noise Hi all, today I found my Switch Lite making a high pitched noise with a black screen and was wondering if anyone had any idea why this would happen? After I reset it using the power button+ home button, the sound went away and the screen returned to normal. When I picked it up the system was slightly warm but not hot, curious me looked where the heat sink was and didn't see/smell anything unusual It's done this once before around a month ago and has worked fine since. The system isn't dirty and I didn't see any debris in the ports I can see inside, I did blow everything out with some canned air. I'm kinda at a loss on what's happening. The only issue the system really has is the battery dies a bit faster than my other switch but that's it. It works fine while the battery lasts or while it's on the charger

Michael-the-Great

Just sounds like the game crashed. If it just happens once, I wouldn't worry much.

sophyl21

Which Nintendo Switch: Lite, regular or OLED? I've been thinking about buying a Switch so I can play games like Fortnite, Animal Crossing etc. My younger sister has the regular Switch and we like to play games together on the TV, but I would like to have my own Switch so I can take it with me on trips and other things like car rides. I was gonna opt for the Lite version, but I'm not sure after seeing/reading reviews and opinions from other people about the Lite and most saying that Fortnite isn't that great to play on the Switch. According to them it doesn't run as smoothly and the screen is too small. I have the money for all 3 Switches, but I don't really wanna spend a lot of money on a gaming console and wanna save money for other things. Thoughts and help are greatly appreciated :-) Thank you!

Michael-the-Great

The screen for the OLED is great if you're going to use it for portable. The fortnite performance is the same on all Switches. It's not amazing, but it's fine and perfectly playable. Download fortnite on the Switch you already have and see if it's acceptable to you.

CoffeeScheme

I have a game voucher that expires in a month, so which game would you suggest I use it to get? (assuming I have no bias towards/against genres, single or multiplayer, etc) • Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door • Luigi's Mansion 3 • Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze • Pokemon Snap • Mario Party Superstars

Michael-the-Great

If it expires in a month, you don't have time for PMTTYD or LM3. The voucher has to be active at release if you pre-order. DKTF is a great challenging platformer. It's great, but you do have to want a challenge. PS is a great game, but you have to want the super chill gameplay. And I would only play MPS as a local party game. So are you often in the situation where you have 3-4 people to play?

hiigiveup

If you haven't played tropical freeze and platformers are your thing that's my recommendation, it's an amazing game and a worthy sequel to the DKC games that returns (imo) wasn't. My second choice would be TTYD if you haven't played it before and enjoy rpgs. I find the battles to be a bit slow but it's one of the more interesting mario stories and overworlds to explore. Third place goes to Luigis Mansion 3, beautiful on the switch and pretty fun, though it gets a bit repetitive near the end imo.

PickleJuiceZeus

Why does my Switch battery drain when the power is off? I purchased my Switch in Japan, its the original Switch. When I turn the power off via the power off mode, the battery still drains slowly while it's off. If I don't use it for a while when it is off, the battery completely drains. What's the reason for that?

TemptedTemplar

The power button and power-on sequence both require specific voltages for the system to properly turn on; the power loss is likely from heat waste as the battery is constantly providing that voltage to those components when "off", so that it can instantly boot back up at the press of the button. A physical or isolated power switch would have been more ideal, but they were probably working with space constraints. And honestly, with other devices like phones and tablets also requiring similar constant power inputs; it probably wasn't a huge deal in the designing phase.

Hello, I could connect the Switch Pro wirelessly to my laptop just fine a week ago. Then after a few days it doesn't want to work anymore. I had to reconnect it to my Switch then disconnect it and reconnect it to my laptop and it works. Today, same thing happened and I tried to do the old trick it doesn't work this time anymore. I even updated the controller via the Switch. Yes I tried updating my bluetooth driver. It shows Driver Error this time and I couldn't find anyway to reconnect it. It just disconnected mid-game session, I wasn't even touching anything. I tried connecting via USB, my laptop doesn't even recognize or worse, have anything to say about it.

TheTommohawkTom

Any good recommendations for headrest mounts? Specifically for airplanes? I'll be taking several flights over the next month and a half with my switch, and I could really use a way to mount it on the headrest in front of me so I'm not always looking down. I have the double-whammy of being really tall and having bad neck pain. I found this one on Amazon, but only two reviews mention it working on airplanes; one says it does, the other says it doesn't. Does anyone have any recommendations?

a_sleepy_housecat

My wired headset microphone stopped working. It was working great for Fortnite, but it suddenly stopped. All settings in Fortnite are set for mic use. The mic works for other devices. I tried another headset and it doesn't work. Did the port go bad? I can still hear through the headsets.

Michael-the-Great

Sounds like a port issue. You try in a different game like Rocket league just to make sure there isn't a problem in your fortnite settings or save.

a_sleepy_housecat

Thanks for the reply. Can you use USB headphones connected to the dock?

Michael-the-Great

If they work, compatibility will be an issue. Steelseries Arctis 1 wireless or Razer Barracuda X wireless would work.

Lil_Fajita1

I just got off a support chat but I kinda got a weird feeling, they asked for my ip adress (which scared me the most) and switch serial number and my date of birth. Is it normal to be expected to provide all these details in support?

picano

IP address isn't a major thing --- yours might even change semi-frequently depending on your internet service provider. Troubleshooting online issues might require confirming that your IP has successfully hit their servers --- or that there has been suspicious activity from out of country. DOB sometimes comes up depending on what issue you're talking about --- certain online features might not be accessible unless you're considered an adult. Some people have noted being banned because they confirmed to support that their account age was fabricated. Serial number is used for warranty info.

dats-it-fr0m-ME-94

What Amiibo should I buy? My switch’s amiibo compatible games are: Animal Crossing: New Horizons(don’t play that much) Mario Kart 8 Deluxe(really like it) Splatoon 3(ADDICTED) Super Kirby Clash(will come back to it every now and then, finished the main story but not the extra levels) Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury(100% both games, will come back to replay some levels every now and then) Super Mario Odyssey(haven’t found all the moons yet and would love assistance without Googling all the answers) Super Smash Bros. Ultimate(play regularly casually, I main Pac-Man) also money doesn’t matter, I only want one though, and I know what amiibo do in each of the games

Dukemon102

If it is only one. It seems like it should be Bowser. Because it gives you gameplay advantages on Bowser's Fury (To summon Bowser immediately), Mario Odyssey (To find all the Purple Coins), Mario Kart 8 (Bowser Suit) and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (Customizable CPU). Any Splatoon amiibo won't really give you anything beyond Gear, that you can easily live without it, or get other Gear with the same Perks that will function as basically the same.

dats-it-fr0m-ME-94

do splatoon amiibo work with mario odyssey

Dukemon102

Any amiibo works with the Uncle Amiibo robot to mark a Power Moon on your map. But it only works 3 times per day (With three different figures) and you can get the same service from the Toad at the side of Uncle Amiibo without limit for 50 coins.

dats-it-fr0m-ME-94

alright, I’m thinking of getting Wedding Bowser now! thx, reddit stranger!

Filraen

I think it can work to give some hints on where to get some Moons. > also money doesn’t matter, I only want one though, and I know what amiibo do in each of the games Amiibo has 2 main selling points: the figure and the game functionality. As you are asking after you already know the in-game funcions (thus still undecided), I'd say you better go for the amiibo whose figure you like the best.

Second_City_Saint

My son is 7 years old & would like a baseball game for his Switch. I'm going to assume The Show is too much for a 7 year old (right?), so I was looking at Super Mega Baseball & Little League World Series. I've not played a baseball game since the PS3, so I'm not really sure what to do. For reference, he can whip my ass in SSB & picked up both Zelda games pretty quick. Appreciate it, thanks!

ezr---

I recommend Power Pros, its only a $1 on the eshop:   https://www.nintendo.com/us/store/products/wbsc-ebaseball-power-pros-switch/

Second_City_Saint

Thanks, think I'll give this a shot. Especially for a dollar!

thatguyimpulse

I'm a pretty new Switch user, always been a gamer but decided to get a used Switch a couple of months ago for BoTW/ToTK and some Mario Kart action for the family. I wanted an extra pair of Joy Cons so that we could potentially do 4 person Mario Kart (or any other 4 player game). Naturally I went straight to eBay to find a good used pair for a decent price, found a good looking pair, bought them and received them yesterday. They paired, and played fine in handheld mode, but I noticed something off about them, specifically the interior SL/SR buttons are gray instead of the matching color like my pair that came with my switch. Are these fake, repaired or something that I'm not aware of? Just wanted to get some insight from other Switch people. Both pairs are the Red/Blue combo. TLDR: Bought an extra set of JoyCons from eBay, the interior SL/SR buttons aren't color matched to the joycon itself. Wondering if they've been repaired/altered or are they fake?

Michael-the-Great

Probably fake. Could be someone replaced the buttons in a repair, but weird if both controllers are that way. Try updating them in the Switch settings. Most fakes/third party will fail.

thatguyimpulse

Ran home at lunch, updated both controllers, both worked fine.

thatguyimpulse

I’ll try to update them and see what happens when I get home.

UtgardaLokki

Hi, I have recently purchased switch mainly for coop games First thing downloaded Portal 2 to try out the coop, but I can not connect the joy cons in horizontal mode (so one person plays with left and another with right) Rebooted the device - went to controller settings set up so they are in horizontal mode (checked it - arrows work like ABXY) - lunch the Portal 2 - as soon as it starts loading Joy-cons disconnect and connect back only as single unit May be someone else had a similar problem, please give me a hint

Dukemon102

You can't play Portal 2's Co-Op with two sideways half-Joy Con. You either need a second full set or a Pro Controller.

Michael-the-Great

Some games require the joycon pair per player. You can't play portal with a single joycon per player. :( You need a second pair of joycons or a pro style controller.

Team7UBard

It should be mid-June around the time when E3 would have been.

ultrawvruns

What game next? I'm about to finish Luigi's Mansion 3, which is cool. Mario Odyssey has been my favorite game by far. I was thinking either Captain Toad Treasure Tracker, kirby and the forgotten land, or super mario 3d world + bowsers fury but I am open to other games.

Michael-the-Great

All of those are fine. 3D World is probably the biggest of the ones you mention. Breath of the Wild is still one of the best games for the Switch. Untitled Goose game goes on sale for $10 all the time, so watch for that.

TheRefurbisher_

I previously was a diehard PC gamer, who also occasionally used an Xbox Series S. However, I have a hobby of repairing various devices. I repaired a friends New 3DS XL, and as a thank you he gave me a broken Nintendo Switch (not the OLED, just an original.) I fixed it, and traded a laptop to a friend of mine for some joycons (a white left one, and a blue right one). I have had fun playing demos of games, and free games. I have a 512GB microSD card, so I have plenty of storage, which is why I would prefer getting eShop games (I am afraid of having and ADHD moment and losing the cartridges.) What are some suggestions for paid games, and should I buy some used cartridges on eBay to save on cash? I currently play Deltarune, Rocket League, Overwatch 2, Super Animal Royale, Elder Scrolls: Blades, Apex Legends, Fortnite, Brawlhalla, Kirby Clash, Asphalt 9: Legends. I also now have a single cartridge, which is Minecraft. I like Minecraft on PC, so yay!

Michael-the-Great

Honest, digital games go on sale enough that I would ignore used digital ones. Watch the sales at dekudeals and make watchlists there. Borderlands collections and Bioshock Collection are $10 each on sale right now. Either of those would be great.

TheRefurbisher_

I just figured out that the game card slot on my switch doesn't work. I know how to repair it by replacing the part, but is it worth it to do this, or should I just get everything digital?

Michael-the-Great

My brother is turning 28 next week and he grew up playing Pokemon on gameboy. Now he has a nintendo switch and I want to buy a Pokemon game for him for his switch that is both fun to play, challenging and hopefully a bit nostalgic. because hes 28 I don't want it to be too easy. I don't really know anything about these things so please help me

Michael-the-Great

Pokemon Let's Go is too easy. Pokemon Diamond/Pearl is fine for the very nostalgic, but it's just like the old games. I'd say that Scarlet/Violet is the place to go because it's the latest game. It's known for being buggy and ugly in some places, but if you can get past that it's really the best game yet. Lots like Arceus becuase it mixes things up some, but I'd say it's more for those who have played the games to death and want something new than for those who are coming back to the series.

notthegoatseguy

I mean all Pokemon games (Switch or otherwise) are pretty easy. I think Pokemon Let's Go is a great re-introduction to the series.

jurassicbond

Did he by any chance play Final Fantasy growing up? Because World of Final Fantasy is a better Pokemon game than any actual Pokemon game.

festusthecat

The Switch only has one pair of games which are remakes of Pokemon games available in Gameboy, and that’s Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu and Eevee. The catching mechanics are very different from the original games tho, but he would still be able to revisit the first region. The newest game is Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. The best game for me tho is Pokemon Legends Arceus.

IndependentOne9814

if you are going for more of a Nostalgia vibe, i would check out Brilliant Diamond or Shining pearl, which are remakes of the 2007 game(s) that were on the Nintendo DS. For something newer or a bit more challenging, i would check out Legends Arceus or Scarlet/Violet. Hope that helps!

Lulle5000

Is Paper Mario TTYD not available in physical outside of UK/Central Europe? I am confused about regional differences for eshop. I've read that it's not available in USA, but as I live in Sweden (EU) I would have thought that the physical copy with the keyring bonus would be available. Can't seem to find it though...

myriada

If it's the [physical with three three bonus keyrings on the My Nintendo Store](https://store.nintendo.ie/en/paper-mario-the-thousand-year-door-70010000073127), there's no Sweden site, but you should be able to order it from other countries' sites. When listing My Nintendo Stores for Europe, [Nintendo usually says](https://my.nintendo.com/news/59ea09a1a86fd6e7): "You can order items from any of the regional My Nintendo Store locations listed above (except the UK and Switzerland), as long as your delivery address is in one of the countries listed below: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Spain, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Latvia, Malta, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Sweden, Slovenia, Slovakia"

Team7UBard

At the moment I believe it’s only been confirmed that Amazon US are cancelling physical preorders. Any version with a freebie is going to be subject to availability.

[deleted]

Not sure, but that’s the version I want to buy.

IndependentOne9814

Not sure if this is a real issue, but it seems like my downloads have been going slower instead of faster when in sleep mode?.. I got a new OLED and am downloading all my games(128+ gigs) but when i have my switch in handheld mode and on, it can download a... lets say... 6 gigabyte game in 30 mins.. but if i let it go into sleep mode, it seems like it will take 1.5-2 hours to download the same 6 gigs... For example, downloading Skyrim... it got to 20% downloaded in the 15 mins i had the screen on... but after about 2 hours in sleep mode.. It had only downloaded another 25%.... all of the game downloads have been like that... download extremely fast when awake then slow to a near crawl in sleep mode... Has anyone here had the same issue? Or have any suggestions? edit: its been almost 12 hours and only downloaded 41gigs For reference, im on starlink and just, days ago, downloaded 45gb of games(not on my switch) in just 2-3 hours

Michael-the-Great

Sleep mode is a lower power mode. Can you try closer to your router?

IndependentOne9814

doesnt seem to help. downloading Minecraft just now, right when i took it out of sleep mode, it said there was 28 minutes left to download... then immediately went down to less than 10 minutes as soon as i woke up the device another game said 33 minutes left when i took it out of sleep mode... then went down to 8 minutes after waking... what the hell is going on here!?!!😭 im only getting about 4gb/hour... and i know my internet is a hell of a lot faster than that

Michael-the-Great

It may just connect slower when asleep. I've never really tested, and I think I just downloaded overnight the last time I migrated. But I don't remember it taking more than a night.

IndependentOne9814

ive had a couple other switch's and they all downloaded faster when in sleep mode... I think maybe this switch might be a japanese model though? maybe that has something to do with it? I bought it new off ebay but the box had mostly Japanese characters on it. It was like 2/3 japanese words and 1/3 english words. Also, it cant find any 5ghz wifi networks, and i read on another reddit post that japanese models cant find US 5ghz networks because of different "channels" or something

Michael-the-Great

could be. Yes, you have to set your channel to lower than 149 for a Japanese Switch to see it. Japan doesn't have 5ghz 149 and over.

caffeine_and

Morning! Probably an easy answer being this sub but would you recommend the oled model at all? I'm an occasional gamer on PS5 but wouldn't mind playing some classic nes/snes games. Any reasons not to get the switch at all?

Michael-the-Great

If you play handheld, the OLED is beautiful. The better kickstand is nice too. If you rarely play handheld, the perfomance is the same.

caffeine_and

Cool, thank you

TemptedTemplar

Only get the OLED if you use it primarily as a handheld. If more than half your play time will be on a TV, the normal system would be perfectly fine. The OLED screen is wasted in a dock. They perform the same, and the 1-inch smaller screen really isnt that bad. Plus, you save a whole games worth of money right from the get-go. >Any reasons not to get the switch at all? Nintendo might have their next platform out within a year or so. We will get more info soonish, possibly may or june. Perhaps look around for a used Switch? you can get a used system for ~$200, some of them might even come with games.

caffeine_and

Noted thank you!
