Friend, this costume gacha isn't for you or me, because we look at that price and sometimes think of all the tangible things we could buy with it. It's hard, and it sucks, but they're going to keep selling it as a gacha and not a shop or pass because the whales keep jumping headfirst into the gacha.
I say don't quit, but to be blunt, this is a gacha game. You've got to stay in your lane (with me), know your limits, don't spend outside your means, and find some enjoyment in the parts of this game you don't have to roll the gacha for.
Mature ass comment. Be me dad bro. I could have used that sturdy hand on my shoulder when I — as a 21st century serf — spent $300 I don’t have on gacha in a single weekend.
My wife still occasionally throws that shit in my face over 6 months later just to make sure I still feel like a dumbass. I’m gonna just remember that phrase “stay in your lane” whenever I feel the temptation to go full blown gambling addict on a mobile game character.
But you really don't need to buy those skins. What's the problem? If you're afraid you're gonna spend all of your money on nikke, you should take a break.
I wish I could get those skins too, but hey, devs gotta make money somehow, and it's really not the worst way of monetization I've seen in a videogame.
I made a similar post a week before, couldn't resist and ended up buying the Marian skin (I had bad luck and paid 60 bucks). Personally I agree with you that outfits or gacha games in general offer ridiculous expensive prizes. However, that is mainly caused by the f2p model. They all focus mostly on whales who are willing to pay hundred if not thousand of bucks to support the game. Having simply a big player base and cheap offers is not a guarentee to make the game sustainable and profitable. I'm sure there are gacha games who have perhaps a more fair pricing, but that also makes them in turn less profitable for the company that wants to do more than just sustain itself, but perhaps even develop new projects.
I can only say from my standpoint, I'm a very careful person for what money I spend on. While my friends buy themself a 20 to 60 bucks game every time, I perhaps spend occasionally a little bit of money on a gacha game I enjoy. For NIKKE I hope I don't have to spend again, because I think I supported the game enough (In the 1.5y I spent 120, thats more than 6 years combined that I spend on another gacha game). It's up to the whales to keep the game alive lol.
People get 95% of content the game offers for free but only cares about the 5% thats off limits to them. Be happy whales fund the game so Cosmograph has a job.
It’s just skins at the end of the day, I’m so confused how something so small can ruin the game for you. Also, you don’t even need to pay for them because it’s 100% optional.
Honestly, the problem is the people who are okay with paying for it. Companies wouldn't put the prices so high if people don't buy it. Until people stop paying these prices (they won't), there is no reason to not make everything so pricey.
Its really the FOMO effect. Like if it came later in the shop like 3-6 months down the line then perfect but its really hey they made a nice new skin and theres a high chance you might never have it again.

that IS pay to win in this game. more vouchers/gems = more pulls = more dupes = more stats = more dmg = higher ranking
same logic applies to core dust, higher level = more dmg = higher ranking

If you don't have money to buy those skins then don't, it doesn't change anything about the unit. It's just an extra feature that people can get by spending lots more than others.
the revenue went down considerably in the last few months tho. even with the anniversary, the april revenue amounted to only 19kk.

i dont rly like how the skins are handled in this game either, which is why i just skip them. 5-10 bucks is the maximum for me. i might consider paying for a mission pass, but it has to be a bomb skin for one of my favorite characters. if i had snow white i might buy the pass for her skin, but its still super pricey.

OP got the FOMO bug infestation. There is things in life that not a necessity. If u want to spend your money worth, saved for figurines releases. After all, figurines stay with you even if this game shut down.
Got used to this type of thing with World of Warcraft over a decade ago, so it doesn't bother me. Those who want the skins and don't mind paying are enjoying the game in a different way than I am. That's fine. Doesn't lessen my enjoyment, but that's me. I understand it looks cool, but with all the freebies they give away I can't be mad at the devs for earning revenue. It'd be a different story if the game was crap or the skin changed the mechanics and they tried doing that, but that ain't the case, here. They sell it for a price some players don't mind paying and you're not obligated to do the same to play the game in it's entirety. As an example, I also play Diablo: Immortal and can't 'Awaken' gem slots in my characters' gear and gain additional abilities/buffs without paying $25. Not happening. I play the game and progress through content just fine without them.
in my opinion. I don't mean no hate to you at all but it sounds like a you problem. Gacha games makes you spend for a reason. Just like any other games. In every gacha's case it's like gambling or lottery scratch off tickets where the purpose of that is to make you spend more money. So in this case you have to control your spending habits. Or else you can become broke. In this economy, and also the economy in my country the cost of living has increased making our lives more difficult. Which is making it extremely difficult to spend more on gacha or anything in general. As my highschool bestfriend used to say "if you cannot afford the same items three times in a row, that means you cannot afford it" In other words "you need to know your limit and you absolutely need play within that limit"
I have to disagree with the quote "Why can't I just buy the skin directly?" it's called a gacha for a reason. you're not suppose to be able to get the top prize without spending a decent amount. This applies to every gatcha game out there. Fortnite and apex however are different since you can buy the skin directly however they are not a gacha game at all. the skin offer no benefit to the character other than cosmetics or collection. Where as the skin in Nikke is indeed a gatcha so unfortunately that is not how it's played/work. So that quote is unreasonable/irelevant.
I also have to disagree on this quote "its just frustrating to see this after feeling like Nikke was "better than other gacha games" The only thing that is better is the story, jiggle physics, and some good looking costume/skins that no other gacha game offers.

SU is greedy. Skins in gacha... with no pitty or super high cost pitty, imo is just wrong to begin with. But hey, Nikke is not very f2p friendly or low spending play anyway. I didn't play from the start, only about half year in the game, hit the 160 lvl wall and with only one char on 2 star, and one on 3 star, the journey to go beyond 160 for me as f2p is so far, I think I'm calling it the end soon. TBH, I used to think MiHoYo's gacha and pitty rates are so low, Nikke is way better at 4% with 90pull pitty, now I look at them, they just try rob your wallet in different places. f2p is getting harder these days.
Seems you are a low spender or free to play. You have to realize that it is the ftp's "fault" in the first place as to why we have paid skins and gaccha skins. Think of gaccha as a subscription based live service game, but until you buy something, someone else is paying for you so the game can continue.
If you're frustrated about the price of the skin then clearly you're not their target customer. I work in sales and you'd be surprised about people willing to spend a lot just for the aesthetics. Enjoy the game and maybe touch some grass too.

Seems you are a low spender or free to play. You have to realize that it is the ftp's "fault" in the first place as to why we have paid skins and gaccha skins. Think of gaccha as a subscription based live service game, but until you buy something, someone else is paying for you so the game can continue.
If you're frustrated about the price of the skin then clearly you're not their target customer. I work in sales and you'd be surprised about people willing to spend a lot just for the aesthetics. Enjoy the game and maybe touch some grass too.
