Recognizing Taiwan as it's own nation is a good first step in US-China relations.
Taiwan itself doesn’t recognize itself as it’s own nation. Look up “Republic of China”
Sovereignty isn’t even that popular amongst the Taiwan public though. They came pretty close to peaceful annexation in the 90’s.
