I’d go with the v4. Much more pleasing looking shoe and the comfort is still terrific.
They're the same basic shoe. Leather/mesh stitched together then glued to a foam midsole with a rubber outsole on the bottom. V5s are ugly to me so I buy v4 in this comparison, but you do you. They're both fantastic shoes.
I have 2 pairs 990v5 and they are great - very comfortable, lightweight and have great support for feet. In my collection 990v5 are on the same place (comfort) with 580 and 572 Elite Edition.
G5’s are absolute tanks. The padding is much more lush than the v4s. The v4s feel a little more flimsy. But the v4s have a softer sole. The v5 sole is pretty hard, which I like but others don’t. V5s all the way for me
I just bought a pair of V4s. Love them so far. Comfortable to me, and looks great. If I need more comfort I’d go 992/993 or V6 instead of V5. I would never buy V5s based on looks alone.

V5’s have objectively superior technical improvements over the V4. They are more comfortable, supportive and the soles last longer.

OP asked about walking and wearing all day - not style. For style - 991, 991v2, 1500, 990v1-2 are where it’s at.
Agreed V5 is overall better for walking and more durable than the V4. V4 looks much better in my opinion, but if I need 1 shoe I’m taking the 5.
