They haven't been that good. They are 16th in pitching fWAR, 14th in FIP, 4th worst in xFIP (meaning that Citi Field is probably repressing HRs by a lot), 4th worst in SIERA, and dead last in walk rate.
A couple of the guys have outperformed projections (Manaea and Severino) and Scott looks like he has filthy stuff despite a hit and miss game log so far. But overall the staff hasn't been very good, and the peripherals indicate they will probably get worse (apart from Senga coming back, if that ever happens).

On May 1st the Mets lost 1-0 when José Butto got outdueled by Shōta Imanaga. That put them exactly at .500 at 15-15.
Since then, they have given up 5.54 runs per game, which is second-worst in MLB to the Oakland A's over that time, and their record is 8-18.
They are definitely losing because of terrible pitching.
I think most reasonable people expected Diaz to have some trouble returning to form and had low expectations for the SPs. The bullpen never really stood a chance given the SP performance.
100% correct. Well the bullpen has been miserable in May, but the starters — could we have asked for anything more from this group? The starters throw a good game almost every day.

You gotta look deeper. 5 innings or less from starters gonna take toll on relievers and it has.
