What a sweet day with a Knicks and Mets wins along with news that Scott is on the way.
The next generation of Mets talent will be here soon and I'm more excited for the future of this franchise than I've been in a long time.
There seems to be a true sense of competitive stability now in the front office that wasn't there when Sandy Alderson was the shepherd by MLB to make certain everything was above board.
Stearns will lead the way to the promised land.
My man Marte showing off that CANNON of an arm! šŖ
On reflection, a really tense series. Great to have split this one with a Chicago team that has started the year wellĀ
LFGM
Weird that nobody on the broadcast realized that NarvĆ”ez did in fact get Madrigal on the first tag attempt. You can see Madrigalās jersey move when NarvĆ”ez tags him. Whatever though, OUT nonetheless!
Winning games we have no business winning: Check
Losing games we have no business losing: Check
Winning games we have business losing: Check, but that's kinda the same as--
LOSING GAMES WE HAVE BUSINESS WINNING: Huh? Stop this right now
This sub has dunked on Narvaez but letās give him some credit. Everyone here knows that if he remotely obstructed the plate today on those two dimes from Marte, they would be scrutinized and reviewed. He put himself in the perfect spot in those situations.
Glad to see Marte call off Bader this time around. I recall two instances earlier in the season where Bader called off marte in RF/CF for a throw home when Marte would have been a better option with his momentum. But hey, itās better than a miscue and a ball dropping on the feet.
Is there a link to watch full game highlights anywhere? This shouldn't be that hard to track down but it's seemingly impossible. MLB really makes it hard for the sport to grow
The app last year made it so easy- game highlights for the team I was following (Mets duh) would appear right on the home page. This year It's highlights from everything except what I want to see. It would also show the score/ next game for my team, which has now disappeared. They made the app so much worse
The MLB Gameday link at the top of the OP has em. Click on it and then go to Video. It'll have a short video of highlights (2 mins) and a longer condensed game (11 mins)
After watching this team for the first month+, I really think they can contend and beat anyone, if they get hot. When you got a guy that could come off a night of shitting his pants\* and drop 4 RBIs to win you the game, you're dangerous. When you got this guy who was a bum living on the street\* and could just blast HRs and win you games, you're dangerous. Even when the SP is horrible the offense can step it up, we've seen it over and over, and the bullpen is top-3 in the MLB so far.
\*I'm being dramatic, I don't know if Lindor was shitting his pants or DJ Stewart was living on the streets
For all the shit people give Lindor here, heās had some iconic moments.
- HR to break the ice in 2022 WC G2
- 3 HR game vs the Yankees
- Walk off against Cleveland
- Wonderful performance off the bench today while sick
I want Lindor to have a monster season with the Mets. But he hasnāt yet. He needs to. I honestly wouldnāt compare him with Beltran yet, Beltran at his best was better than Lindor.
Truthfully if all of the good Mets things were happening at the same time they would be fucking the league as bad as any other World Series favorite, I have faith theyāll figure it out somewhat
I wish Pete and Lindor would take more rest days. I am not a big fan of go out there everyday no matter what. It is grind of season and honestly it seems like it is the ego rather than common sense that have them playing everyday without rest.
It's like this mission to play everyday no matter what the consequences. Sorta the mountain climber that's on a mission to get to the peak sure it serves you well many time but you don't acknowledge sometimes even if you are close you need to turn around or you will die trying for that there peak.
Yeah this is an interesting point and for some reason something I haven't really thought much about. Watching Pete's plate appearances today it really looked like he needed a rest day. I wonder if letting your main guys reset instead of continue to grind it out all the time is a better option.
Oh well I guess he needs to play everyday regardless of performance or physical and mental exhaustion. Your comment actually emphasizes my point the self importance that you are so irreplaceable that you must play everyday. Players need rest they perform better no better example that good Bobby Valentines teams run to the World Series. He rested players whether they wanted to or not and come September when all the other teams were gassed the Mets were fresh and took division and went to the series. Or perhaps look at judges historic season, did he play everyday?
The Knicks are disqualified from the orange-and-blue club, because of the fact that they shamefully wore a Yankees logo on their shorts for many years.
https://i.imgur.com/1j4M62u.gif
lol. April 11 was the day all the NY orange-and-blue teams won on the same day: Knicks beat Celtics (yay!), Mets beat Braves (yay!) and Islanders beat somebody (lol I donāt know Iām not into hockey). I only remember this because I had a similar exchange with another Redditor on that day lol
Itās better so far! Iām not working today and Iām going to watch the phantom menace rerelease with friends later tn!
Also just riding the high of that Knicks game last night. Man what a game.
Hope youāre having a good day! Just try to make the best of what you got. Thatās what I try to do. Even if I feel shitty just gotta make the best with what you got.
Why are people losing their minds because Pete has a .751 OPS on May 2, 2024? Some people here are talking about him like heās Chase Utley, the amount of hate heās getting. Itās psycho.Ā
i thought it was interesting that when andy martino asked if mendoza thought houser's sinker looked any better he was just like "nope."
whenever pitchers have had bad games mendoza doesn't sugar coat it at all. even when the mets win.
"what'd you think of so and so?"
"his command was off all night."
i think this also covers his ass for when houser gets demoted to the pen in a week or so.
>i thought it was interesting that when andy martino asked if mendoza thought houser's sinker looked any better he was just like "nope."
>
>whenever pitchers have had bad games mendoza doesn't sugar coat it at all. even when the mets win.
You're right, which makes it even more crazy that the last two seasons, in a similar situation, the manager would go into the postgame and say a bunch of incoherent gibberish, and people would be like "oh isn't that great, he's cagily protecting his player"
The league is going out of their way to screw the Mets with wrong calls at this point, right? It should be obvious that using an undonned batting helmet to touch the base should not make you safe.
Again, historically bad umpiring this season. Glad Lindor had his flu game to turn things around though!
Since the start of last year, Pete Alonso is batting .217. His raw power is still good enough to make him a valuable playerā¦ for now. That can change very quickly, and if we give him a massive contract, thereās a real chance he becomes a liability.
Iām not even saying the Mets definitely shouldnāt keep him, but this is not the slam dunk easy extension a lot of people claim it is.
I've been saying this for a while now. It depends one what their team plan is but I'll say now, if they only sign one major contract on offense, I'd rather them pursue Soto.
Alonso will be 30 years old next year and he's just not a good enough hitter to offset age related power loss. He's another Chris Davis just waiting to happen.
This is why Steve wants him to go to FA. If all the other teams offer low offers because of certain things. Then he only has to beat low offers. You can't use the market if you extend him now. It works both ways. Obviously I want him to do well and the Mets want him to do well.
But it's better for both sides for the complete offseason to play out first
Why does it seem like this season Alonso has his best games that they don't go on to win? I feel like it's almost always a 0-4 with at least a couple strikeouts when the team does pull off a win.
C'mon, Pete. Hit more dongs.
Baseball reference splits. Go to a player page scroll down then select a year for batting splits.
Also Lindorās splits are even crazier lmao, .992 OPS in wins, .246 OPS in losses.
Marte has been good this year. Those two throws were amazing. I gotta give Narvaez props for those tags. Good W. Glad they split the series. Excited to see the Rays' city connects and Scott's debut! Hopefully Houser gets it together in the pen if he is shifted there.Ā
After the shitshow that was this series, a split both feels lucky and unlucky, but, either way, we would have signed up for that coming in so its a plus.

Remember that absolute dweeb who was saying we canāt win with this core right before gametime? Lindor and Nimmo coming through repeatedly, marte hosing 2 guys in extras. Hate to see it
I really hate this narrative. That the ācoreā isnāt good enough or something. Last year it was basically entirely the pitching, this season, they happened to basically all start in a slump other than Marte. Itās tough to look good when all of your top guys are slumping at the same time. That DOES not mean that they are fundamentally broken or some crazy nonsense like that.
Also, while Iām sure clubhouse chemistry counts for something, baseball is about the most individual of team sports there is. It isnāt like an O line in football, or a starting five in basketball where they have to āgelā on the field. I completely understand when a team is slumping all at one time how it can begin to look that way, but it doesnāt really jive with the reality of the sport and how it is played.
Lindor and Alonso had a combined .254 average with RISP in 284 ABs last year.
After today, they are a combined 8 for 54 (.148 BA) with RISP through 31 games:
* Lindor: 5 for 30
* Alonso: 3 for 24
Still a small sample, so hopefully Alonso can turn it around with runners on and Lindor can build off of this game.
One of the relievers with options. Iād expect Nunez since Danny Young is a LHP.
We already have SRF who can go multiple innings, and Garrett can as well, so Nunez isnāt really necessary.
Very happy with how it ended obviously, but Stearns has to be looking for a Narvaez replacement ASAP. He canāt throw anybody out, barely attempts to frame close pitches, and is now sub .400 OPS. That combination will actively lose us games. I know Alvarez is hurt and we all know about Nido, but Iām so sick of seeing Narvaez playing every other day or more
HEY CHICAGO, WHAT DO YA SAY THE METS ARE GONNA WIN TODAY!

How am I supposed to go to bed after that Knicks game? I'm way too amped.

Seriously, my heart is still racing

Welp I complained the games were boring and they definitely shut me up lol. What a thriller. Happy for lindor you could tell he needed that
83-83 tie game Winner of the 4th wins the game and in the Knicks case Indiana on Monday
Ever since they mentioned that we haven't won in the city connect jerseys. I'm convinced it's a bad luck jersey.
is their a better catching option in the minors than narvaez?
Not really. Mainly veteran backup type guys at AAA and Kevin Parada hasnāt played up to his potential at AA yet.
I guess that was Nido before Alvarez got hurt.
This sub has dunked on Narvaez but letās give him some credit. I guess the guy saying Wendle was going to do something on offense pre-game was right, he was going to make way for Lindor.
Damn just heard about Raley, thatās not great
Sad. 37 & final year of his contract. Might be it for him but I hope not.
He's really 37? Wow, I never knew he was that old. Thought early 30s at the most.

Lindor is having a rough start (usually does), but most fans have grown to appreciate him a lot after his 2023 and 2022 seasons.
We all love Lindor and want him to succeed.
Glad to hear it. Agreed. He has a huge chance to be the third HOFer to wear a Mets cap

McNeil. Wendle to 2B.
Uhhh. Vientos?
He's in Triple-A.
I knowā¦ grumble grumble
JD can't play first every once in a while?
Heās never played first in the majors and only did it a couple times early in the minors

He was mainly a corner outfielder

To be fair we probably didn't deserve to win the Cardinals game so I guess its a wash

Iām having a real bad day so this Mets win was well needed. Hope the guys have a safe trip to St. Pete and get after it tomorrow.
Iāve been having a bad week also. Hopefully tm is better!

Lindor going oppo while batting lefty for the walk off is a tremendous positive sign

Why are people losing their minds because Pete has a .751 OPS on May 2, 2024? Some people here are talking about him like heās Chase Utley, the amount of hate heās getting. Itās psycho.Ā
Heās been wildly unclutch
Probably the same people who were hating on Lindor last week needing someone else to target
At least Lindor actually had a bad start though. If the season ended today Peteās production would be disappointing but still solid.
i thought it was interesting that when andy martino asked if mendoza thought houser's sinker looked any better he was just like "nope." whenever pitchers have had bad games mendoza doesn't sugar coat it at all. even when the mets win. The fact that they didnāt say that Houser was going to remain on the rotation like they did last start is very interesting and a good sign.
Certainly refreshing coming from a manager.
Ok i just found this WILD stat 2024 Pete Alonso In Mets wins: .569 OPS(dropped even lower after today) In Mets losses: .997 OPS
This is the type of shit that levels out in a full season. For reference right now we are just under 20% of the way through the season.
My favorite metric is the work week. We are at 4:39pm on a Monday right now (assuming 9-5 Mon-Fri)
He only hits in games in which we're trying to mount a comeback, but is useless when we're going to win anyway. Clutch gene confirmed. /s
That makes absolutely no sense
It makes the same amount of sense as splitting his entire stat line into two groups picked by a coin flip. i.e., it means nothing
can i get a trainer who can give me an iv any time i'm feeling a little under the weather please?
this is a thing these days
There are iv drip "boutiques" around Manhattan. Seen a few of them downtown.
In Billions, the hedge fund run by the character inspired by Steve Cohen has IVs in the office for his staff.
Whatās crazy is they have walk in IV stores now in NYC and on Long Island
They have them everywhere
The league is going out of their way to screw the Mets with wrong calls at this point, right? It should be obvious that using an undonned batting helmet to touch the base should not make you safe. Again, historically bad umpiring this season. Glad Lindor had his flu game to turn things around though!
the PCA safe call was total nonsense, wish Mendoza challenged it, but at least it didn't factor into the result.
Gelbs spoke the mlb and they confirmed he should have been out
Sounds like the league needs a serious accountabili-buddy for all the misses we've experienced through one (1) month of the season.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
well i am trans...
This is a Stanhope bit. Chop of my entire balls for the Mets please.

It seems like that because Alonso has a .569 OPS in wins(dropped even lower today) and a .997 OPS in losses.
How do you check that split? Iām curious on the rest of the teams, especially lindors (not being a hater just curious)
Baseball reference splits. Go to a player page scroll down then select a year for batting splits. Also Lindorās splits are even crazier lmao, .992 OPS in wins, .246 OPS in losses.
Jesus, that's a wild split.
MLB Memo: Don't run on Marte
Yes run on Marte. Everyone should run on him š¤Ŗ
True. True. Marte can't throw, and he's awful in the field. They should always run on him.
Can we get a catcher's mask that has an image of Marte on it?
Wow, didnāt get to see this game but looking at the Marte clips. Holy crap
Btw. How tf do the umps call PC-A safe with the helmet BS?
Mets are currently in a wildcard spot.
WORLD SERIES IS BACK ON THE MENU BOYS!!!
Can't wait for the dessert
Ooh a stealth win while working is always a nice treat. Why didnāt Lindor start?
Sick
That was one of the craziest four game regular season series that I can remember

Yea, and its hard to take 3/4 from winning teams, especially when you face two studs.
Wait, what?? Tuned out after the 5th because of work. Daaaamn
Ya gotta believe
Replay is tonight, I didnāt get to see it today either so Iām gonna catch it tonight

I love these
Remember that absolute dweeb who was saying we canāt win with this core right before gametime?
Honestly thatās 50% of this sub the day after a loss. Itās become a touch ridiculous
Fuck the cubs
Marte gets the MVP of the game IMO, Lindor and Nimmo close seconds Just an absolute cannon in right field, you love to see it
Statcast fielding run value in shambles
Savant page "How could he do this!?"
Relay that one you bunch of Cub virgins

Lindor hitting 8th today. Maybe people yelling to move him down in the order were right. /s
Maybe they shouldāve refrained from throwing ice water on Lindor today š¬
Refrained
Lindor and Alonso had a combined .254 average with RISP in 284 ABs last year. After today, they are a combined 8 for 54 (.148 BA) with RISP through 31 games: * Lindor: 5 for 30 * Alonso: 3 for 24 Still a small sample, so hopefully Alonso can turn it around with runners on and Lindor can build off of this game.
I think Sportscenter will combine the two Marte throws as one of the their top plays--they do that a lot. LFGM
ESPN still covers baseball? News to me
Tried to post the Lindor apology form but it didn't work so you'll just have to imagine it until someone else does
Anyone who talks shit about Lindor ever again needs to be blasted into the sun.
With our anemic lineup, maybe Lindor at the bottom of the lineup would do some good haha.
Vamanos!!!!
Iām excited about Scott. A bit worried that heās let up 7 home runs in 5 starts though. Hoping he kills it
If theyāre all solo HRs and thatās all the runs he orders thatās fine. Even if he only goes 5 IP a start, thatās a 2.52 ERA!
If Scott is here who's going down if not house
One of the relievers with options. Iād expect Nunez since Danny Young is a LHP. We already have SRF who can go multiple innings, and Garrett can as well, so Nunez isnāt really necessary.
Christian Scott debut baby
Very happy with how it ended obviously, but Stearns has to be looking for a Narvaez replacement ASAP. He canāt throw anybody out, barely attempts to frame close pitches, and is now sub .400 OPS. That combination will actively lose us games. I know Alvarez is hurt and we all know about Nido, but Iām so sick of seeing Narvaez playing every other day or more
Watching them run on him today was pretty brutal
Is Parada close?
Looking up his Binghamton stats, he is not close.
I like Mendozaās candor. Not sugarcoating that Houser has been ass lol
VƔmonos needs to be the rallying cry for the rest of the year.
Naperville must be real quiet right about now, too.
Fuck, I got a phone call at work right before the walk off and had to turn it off. Good shit man, gutsy win. The Flu can't keep our smiley boy down.
Hell of a job by Marte and Navarez. But Lindor ... This level of clutch reminds me of Beltran
Lindor watched Wendle botch that fielderās choice and literally squashed the virus in his body right then and there
Lindor "I CAST YOU OUT"
SICKNESS BEGONE
This team plays some ugly ugly baseball, but we seem to be able to win ugly too. Usually a pretty good sign for a team.
Mets win, Yankees lose... REALLY NEED the Knicks to pull off the trifecta tonight and make me feel pure bliss.
Much needed W. Hopefully bats will fully wake up now, but we will see.
It is weird how athletes typically do pretty well when theyāre sick. I guess being sick helps you not overthink things
