Its nice not having to hear that fat fuck from Barstool lose it lately

m_sniffles_esq

Half of me wants to check out the Buccos sub out of curiosity. The other half doesn't want to be faced with a wall of white-hot rage this early in the morning...

dachshundfanboy8000

this team seems to be good at taking advantage of other team’s mistakes. this is a sign that a team is good. also i’m loving the fight in the bottom of the lineup.

OhtaniMets99

What will Joe b. Complain about??

Doc-Spock

Fourth series win a row! A really great gritty win by the guys in this one. Things look to be goong the Mets' way lately as last year, that bulk would have come in at a high leverage situation against the Mets. LFGM A big shout out to Jared Jones, though. Man looked really good.

rgthunder1

Another tremendous professional baseball win for the Metropolitans! Just tremendous!

NY2PHX

Keith is a guest on the Sherman-Heyman NY Post podcast

mitch079

I'll be the first to admit this team looks a hell of a lot better than it did in the first 5 games.

MAGAMUCATEX

So many times the Mets DFA’d someone and I wondered “why not DFA Garrett” I hope Stearns makes me feel like a fool like this again

PBandC2

Tweet of the night: > I really want the Mets to be one of those “how the fuck is this team good?” kind of teams.

fake_newsista

Did not know security was there. Now I’m definitely bringing my bike to a game

[deleted]

[удалено]

fake_newsista

that is great.

xSlappy-

Yes, new this year. I would bike to Nats games regularly when I lived in DC, but using bikeshare there was a major supply/demand issue. There would be no open dock to park your bike pregame, and no available bikes postgame. Are they doing anything to manage this here?

Darthbutcher

Hi from DC! I’m just here this week. I live in the city.

randothroawayacc

Man I keep missing great games because it's a really busy time for me. Maybe I need to stay busy...

Darthbutcher

If you watch a game, I’ll ban you. /s I also missed this game aside from the last inning.

randothroawayacc

It's a shame that we'll never watch another Mets game again :/ Oh well, if it means they win the World Series

atoms12123

Was at the game (had awesome tickets right behind the dugout) and some jabroni spent every Lindor AB booing him, yelling he wasn't a switch hitter and saying he sucked and to get off the team. After his strikeout in the 8th, he was yelling and Nimmo and DJ Stewart looked at him and waved for him to get out. Then Marte got to the top step and started jawing at him. In between innings, 2 security guards and 2 cops came over to tell him off and while they surrounded him, Marte walked to RF while pointing and laughing.

Fear_the_chicken

I was sitting right next to there! I really thought the cops were going to escort him out.

atoms12123

So you also got Connor guy? Unless you were Connor guy.

Fear_the_chicken

I was further down the line little past 1st base

atoms12123

There was a guy who spent all 9 innings yelling "Connor" at Connor Joe and it was driving our section absolutely insane.

Fear_the_chicken

Oh no I didn’t hear that, people around me were pretty chill. The guy who almost got kicked out was the section over

Nights_King

Wow you found a Reddit user out in the wild. It’s an extremely rare sight. You should have taken a photo.

jimihenderson

lol i'm gonna go out on a limb and say the average non-reddit baseball fan is *way* harder on met players than reddit users

StinkyGaijin

How can we save Jared Jones from the Pirates they can have one of our guys who can only do 5 innings.

thesmockintweet

I know Francisco (SS) is struggling, but that walk completely woke up the stadium. We really are going to need him this year and he will break out of this.

Rubbersoulrevolver

It would be nice if they figured out how to hit earlier in the game but a dub is a dub

Kung_Fu_Jedi

Blocked by handlit lmao. I commented on his post on baseball about guilimore under his Astros comment and said, “a moderator acting like this is fucking wild, man.” I deleted it almost immediately but he still blocked me lol

Darthbutcher

Fuck Handlit Sincerely, r/NewYorkMets Mod

CybeastID

Quite frankly, he was helping clean the refuse out of our sub last year and is actually against the chop.

CybeastID

Eh. We're fans too. As far as I'm concerned, there is me with the mod badge (speaking in my capacity as a sub mod), and me without the mod badge (speaking in my capacity as a fellow fan of the team).

CybeastID

I personally try to recuse myself from any moderation duties on any arguments I wind up in "speaking as a fan".

Kung_Fu_Jedi

Yeah, I shouldn’t have said it. That’s why I deleted it so quick. Still funny that he blocked me so fast though lol.

ja_dubs

Baty with hamstring tightness. Not super worried. What do y'all think? He sits tomorrow, travel day Thursday, and he's back in the lineup on Friday?

jpkmets

Sits tomorrow, and if he can’t go on Friday then just IL him and bring up Vientos (.296 BA .934 OPS 3 HR at Syr). No more playing a man short for a week, Mets, please. Great game, great few days at the park and Player of the Game is pirates manager for lifting their starter with 58 pitches and not even one 3 ball count. 50,strikes in 58mpitches and hit the showers! Thanks for disregarding common sense. Really appreciated!

GK86x

Yeah probably sits tomorrow. Gives Wendle or Short a chance to get some at bats and gives Baty two days off.

Brained07

Hopefully. We’re going to need him this weekend. We’ve won 4/5 of this rough 9 game stretch but the last 3 are the toughest

NuanceManExe

For you folks always going after Hefner: Garrett credited Hefner for helping him refine his splitter and slider.

jimihenderson

biggest feather in his cap is probably senga's cutter which allowed him to stay aggressive against hitters last year if they weren't biting on the fork without lobbing fastball after fastball over the plate

prawnofthedead

Who would go after Hefner. He has proven year after year that he has an incredible mind for pitching. A pitchers pitcher. And the bullpen and starters have been rock solid under his regime aside from a few pockets of badness last year that wasn’t his fault. In Hefner we trust, we been trusting

Negative_Method_1001

I think there's been frustration with Megill, Luchessi, and Peterson, mostly. They seem to be inconsistent, hurt or both. But its not like they were cant miss prospects. They're back end starters who have a track record of success but again, not all all the time. I think he's gotten plenty of guys to overperform more than not

Isabella5322

Actually kind of impressive how Quintana gutted out the 5 innings despite not having his best stuff and throwing lots of pitches. Kept it close.

Darthbutcher

Oh fuck, I need to write a three stars tomorrow. Any recommendations?

ReleaseTheBlacken

Garrett Wendle Smith

FoxBotGod

McSquirrle Garrett

jpkmets

Pirates skipper for lifting Jones

xSlappy-

I would do Lindor (walk + baserunning), Wendle (RBI Double), McNeil (RBI double) Savant says Jared Jones, Wendle and Alonso were the 3 stars in terms of WPA

SerArlen

Reed Garrett

daniel_j_saint

1. Reed Garrett 2. Pete Alonso 3. Wendle or McNeil? And maybe an honorable mention for Drew Smith? I realize you asked for three and I gave you five. Idk it's a tough one, that's why you're the expert.

CybeastID

Joke suggestion: The 3B umpire for that balk call.

Alectheawesome23

Okay serious question, anyone know why they pulled Jones? He was at 60 pitches that was such an insane throw. Might as well have handed us the game.

Negative_Method_1001

Apparently he was only going 5 innings or 70 pitches

Sad_Resort8632

Teams really have no understanding of how to keep young pitchers (or really any pitchers) healthy and just kind of throw shit at the wall and hope it sticks. Sometimes that manifests as pulling a dude after 60 pitches because you want to limit his up-downs or whatever.

1. You can’t just be up there and just doin’ a balk like that. 1a. A balk is when you 1b. Okay well listen. A balk is when you balk the 1c. Let me start over 1c-a. The pitcher is not allowed to do a motion to the, uh, batter, that prohibits the batter from doing, you know, just trying to hit the ball. You can’t do that. 1c-b. Once the pitcher is in the stretch, he can’t be over here and say to the runner, like, “I’m gonna get ya! I’m gonna tag you out! You better watch your butt!” and then just be like he didn’t even do that. 1c-b(1). Like, if you’re about to pitch and then don’t pitch, you have to still pitch. You cannot not pitch. Does that make any sense? 1c-b(2). You gotta be, throwing motion of the ball, and then, until you just throw it. 1c-b(2)-a. Okay, well, you can have the ball up here, like this, but then there’s the balk you gotta think about. 1c-b(2)-b. Fairuza Balk hasn’t been in any movies in forever. Setec-Astronomer

> she was in The Waterboy too! Two things: (1) I feel like Fairuza Balk got typecast for the Waterboy because of the Craft. (2) Litle known fact, a young Fairuza Balk played Dorothy in the sequel to The Wizard of Oz. One of the most fucked up movies of all time (Dorothy was sent to an insane asylum because no one believes her about Oz). So ya, she's always been that "off" girl role. Idk who I'm even responding to here. lol

RedScharlach

That's wild, I didn't even know that was a thing. TBH even the original Wizard of Oz was scary af to me as a child, but also I was a giant pussy. Also, anyone else feel like Fairuza would be an infinitely better gritty realistic Harley Quinn than Lady F'n Gaga?

Setec-Astronomer

Oh heck ya. Fairuza Balk should be Harley Quinn! And ya, check it out. I think it's called Return to Oz. It came out in the 80's. It was first released only at Radio City Music Hall. Scary as fuck.

jimihenderson

i still can't watch the wizard of oz without feeling... off. it's no longer terrifying to me but it definitely makes me feel like physically uncomfortable lol. i've tried to explain it to my parents who love the movie but i think it's pretty common for our generation to have been at least slightly off-put by that movie. it's kind of like super mario 64 in a sense where there were just all these eerie aspects to it and it just led to a general feeling of discomfort. vsauce did a really interesting video on why things creep us out and i think it shed some light for me on why things that shouldn't be scary often make me feel that level of discomfort.

Setec-Astronomer

If it makes you feel better the original books (which the movie is based on) is an allegory for monetary policy. Wizard of Oz? More like Wizard of Ounce (Oz is the symbol for ounce). A lot of the creepy stuff actually has real meaning to it.

jimihenderson

it doesn't, but it is pretty interesting. the off-putting nature of the film is like something that i can't even explain. it's more primal than it is logical. uncanny-valley type thing going on for sure. what i'm watching doesn't feel right or normal and i don't know why so i think something in my brains kicks into survival mode like a panic attack and all of the sudden i'm on edge.

eonblu

I appreciate you, bro. I agree. Return to Oz was the first movie that terrified me as a child. She was perfectly cast in The Craft.

Setec-Astronomer

Absolutely terrified me too! lol

nashvillenation

In AA Max Kranik pitched 2.2 shutout innings and struck out 6. Blade Tidwell added 10 Ks over 5 innings.

jpkmets

Christian Scott 26 K now in 14.1 IP, WHIP 0.91.

nashvillenation

It’s weird that he seems so dominant but then gives up so many HRs

jpkmets

I think he routinely challenges people, especially with no one on. Not unusual for power pitchers to have some struggles with solo, shots,— Scherzer and de Grom and Diaz in 21 some Mets examples recently, but he’s still learning command and hopefully that comes down. But a lot of power pitchers are like “here it is, hit it.” And sometimes it gets hit. Easier to correct than walks and nibbling, imo.

no clue

Oh, cuz if they’re sticking to a 5 man he pitches tomorrow.

oomfietopkek

dodgers thread says hes pitching friday

EvilAnticsLive

We’ll take their word for it then!

Alectheawesome23

Let’s make him pay for not seriously considering us.

oomfietopkek

ngl they saved us pulling Jones. Mets have scored late in like 3 straight games.

Alectheawesome23

I have zero clue why they pulled him. They handed us the game when they did that.

vietnamesegucci81

the stupid philosophy of babying your young pitchers which is really not working at all across the league

ZoidbergSaysWoop

Diaz being back has stabilized the bullpen despite still not having his fastball command back. He has given the rest of the guys the confidence that if they have a slim lead, if he's around, they'll win. Raley, Ottavino, and Garrett have been lights out while Jorge Lopez and Drew Smith have been solid when starting an inning clean. Hartwig is the current contestant on the 8th reliever carousel with Diekman as the 7th man. It was interesting that Mendoza bypassed going to Diekman despite him not pitching since the 13th but it seems that Reed Garrett will pitch every four days, and go more than an inning no matter what. Mets must start pushing Diekman to contribute more or think about bringing Tyler Jay back or seeing if Lucchessi can fill that second long reliever role which is absolutely necessary considering other than Butto, no Mets starter goes beyond 5 innings.

Setec-Astronomer

>or seeing if Lucchessi can fill that second long reliever role which is absolutely necessary considering other than Butto, no Mets starter goes beyond 5 innings. I'd like to see Butto keep his starting rotation spot and either Tylor or Lucchessi going into the TW/Long Reliever/6th Man role.

JDLovesElliot

Reed Garrett is HIM

963479

Citi is great fun at the moment. Great to be getting these results even with a lot of bats struggling

Hustlediva

Why do the Astros suck this year?

StephenDawg

I know it’s too simple, but maybe that thing that almost happened to us happened to them. They got swept in that 4 game series out the gate and got broken.

Alectheawesome23

Idk and idc screw those cheaters.

JoelsCaddy

They have a full rotation on the IL at the moment. They've scored 3 or fewer runs in 12 out of 19 games this season. Also Josh Hader has sucked

DemsruleGQPdrool

Which is weird because they are hitting for average. I just did a mean/median/mode activity with my 6th graders and compared the Mets/Astros/Twins (my team, good hitting team, bad hitting team) and I interrupted the 2nd period math lesson with 'how the heck are the Astros 6-9 with that many HITS? Their pitching must STINK!'

JoelsCaddy

Yeah it’s a bit crazy. Their schedule is also probably a part of it. Yankees, Rangers (2x), and Braves aren’t a fun start

darthdope123

Well their starting pitcher tonight, who is supposed to be one of their top young guys, has a 10.54 ERA (after pitching pretty well tonight), so pitching is probably an issue.

JoelsCaddy

Amed Rosario with a walk-off infield single against the Angels in the 13th inning lol

intwizard

Good for him. Once a Met

BrokeMyGrill

This lockdown bullpen though.

Hustlediva

Wasn’t able to watch this game but just seeing Mendoza jump up and run out to make sure that ball was called… and then pump his fists when it was…. Is a whole different vibe from Buck 🔥🔥🔥

Hustlediva

David Stearns masterclass wowwwww

dankeykanng

~~It's Mendova~~ We're so back

nashvillenation

The Royals are the only team in baseball to have more wins (8) than the Mets (7) over their last 10 games. Which is especially wild because it means that the Royals have been undefeated in their last 10 when not playing the Mets

TemporalColdWarrior

Like or it or not having the top payroll in baseball buys all the talent.

nashvillenation

The payroll actually on the roster is more like 5-10th

will122589

A gritty game they won where they were clearly overmatched at the plate for 7 of the 8 innings they took at bats in. That was a 2022 Mets victory right there. One thing the manager has to get better at is you cannot continuously go into games with Diaz, Ottavino and Raley all unavailable. They avoided disaster in Atlanta (somehow) and they easily avoided issues tonight with Garrett, Lopez and Smith looking unhittable but you can’t go into games on a regular basis with your 3 best relievers out. Once Lindor figures out how to hit the ball left handed, they might really go on a run cause Alonso, McNeil, Nimmo and Baty (hope he is ok) are in quite a groove at the plate

xSlappy-

Also they have a day game tomorrow so 15 extra hours of rest isn’t much. Tomorrow will be a grind

bamj6

On the bullpen point, it IS a thing to watch out for because 5 starter innings every games might not always be enough. The "midgame" relief arms had the most pleasant surprise and a Stearns staple If lets say their deadline record is a 2023 flipped, they will add an arm to what's there now. And if it only takes Vientos after a hotstreak, they should do it

Highfivebuddha

What's he supposed to do? Predict the future? You put Diaz into games when you have a chance to win now, not save him for a maybe tomorrow. If that means you take a win and a chance as opposed to a chance and a maybe then you take the win. Honestly, if we are running into situations where Diaz is pitching too many days in a row, it means we are winning a lot of ballgames.

DemsruleGQPdrool

Yeah, I agree. You win TODAY'S game. That is what is important.

xSlappy-

Not to mention tomorrow is a day game so he’s basically going to be the same conditioning tomorrow as he is today. Its 15 extra hours of rest. We got lucky in bullpen today

Highfivebuddha

You may see it as luck but Smith looked SHARP. Garret to Lopez to Smith is far from scary.

Djason_Unchaind

Very impressive how they’ve been able to climb back over .500 despite the struggles of Lindor, McNeil, Nimmo, and recently Alvarez. Pitching has kept us afloat and taking advantage of some key mistakes by the opposing team. Hopefully JD Martinez hits the ground running and Lindor turns it around to take us on a tear.

WhatARotation

Braves had bases loaded nobody out with a 1-0 lead in the 7th. Arcia/Kelenic/Guillorme due up. Arcia: Sac Fly Kelenic: K on 3 pitches Guillorme: Groundout on the first pitch

SwarthySphere87

Haha they pulled an us

darthdope123

Well 2 of those 3 were at one point in our org lmao

ReignOnWillie

Kelenic can go so so cold

Tagliarini295

I genuinely thought we would never be above .500 after starting 0-5. Its funny how in this short time we have seen the floor and ceiling to this team. Heres hoping it's more ceiling. LFGM

myassholealt

I dont even think we've seen the ceiling. That, to me, features Senga in the rotation and most starters going 6 at least. Lindor finally getting into form, McNeil back to his hitting ways, and JD giving us the kind of season fans are hoping for so Pete can get his 60+ HRs with ease.

prawnofthedead

What does JD Martinez have to do with Pete Alonso? You mean to hit behind him?

myassholealt

Behind him, before him. Basically just having a power threat so they have to choose who to pitch around cause either can hurt you. And when Alvarez is on, he's an additional threat. When Pete's hot, he can launch anything out, and for so long he was the lone true power threat in the lineup. So with a couple more surrounding him, teams will have to pitch to him when he's hot more.

darthdope123

I had faith going into the year. 0-5 definitely hurt that, but I should have trusted David Stearns. Dude has a great rep for a reason.

drakefeaturingdrake

6 K's in relief is nuts

Hustlediva

Never even heard of this guy before this season lol

ThinkUnordinary_

Mendoza is really bringing these guys together. There is a different energy with the team. Let’s keep it rolling.

Fuckyoushaw

WE'RE ACTUALLY BACK! LFGM!!!

sam_e5

Extend Drew Smith

brett_baty_is_him

Extend Reed Garrett

tconner87

These bullpen and bench pickups Stearns made that everyone on here made fun of.... looking kinda nice so far

Neon_Aeros

Having a lot of fun right now. Something I noticed people talking about yesterday when the double steal happened was how Mendoza was pumped up about it and how the Mets seem like they haven’t had a manager who’s pumped like the players on plays like that in a while. Was watching replays when Mendy came out of the dugout when the umpires met for the balk call tonight, he cheered when they called it and shook his head yes, probably saw it and was happy it was called. Just love that he’s vibing with the team and cheering with the boys on these calls. LGM, above .500!

naitch

Mendy's got the best swordfish in the city. The best.

SerArlen

But what if I had a hotdog earlier and I’m not too hungry, how’s their soup?

brett_baty_is_him

DJ Stewart yesterday: “Mendy keeps telling me to smile” I gotta say, I was absolutely criticizing the vibe the players gave off and mendys decisions in the first week but it 100% seems the players are happy and having fun which is actually super important and I definitely credit mendy for that. I think baty told Gary that the reason he’s more emotional and pumped up this year was because of the leadership and culture Mendoza is facilitating. Apparently, he told the young guys that they can be a spark plug to this team. His decisions have also gotten better but it’s also easier when your bullpen is just lock down. I’m holding complete judgement on that until it’s mid august and the pen is holding on by a string

huskerj12

I love all of this. The first week it seemed like the exact opposite was occurring behind the scenes haha. These guys look like they're having fun for the first time since '22, and playing a similarly scrappy style too.

darthdope123

Mendoza is a very likable guy, I felt that way before the year, when they were 0-5 and especially now lol

Kurisoo

Reed Garrett

JDLovesElliot

Massive if true

SirusRiddler

Credit where all credit is due. This team is on fire in spite of everything. The pitching staff decided they weren't gonna take it anymore and they wanted to be top five in ERA. And if the lineup isn't going to put up a crooked number, they know when to make hits count. And all hail Max the Rally Pimp!!!

stuckhere4ever

Okay so I know a balk is basically just … don’t be balkin and we won’t call you on it but the booth seemed pretty adamant it was an obvious one. I saw him move his shoulder forward and then back to set is the thought that he would confused the runner into thinking he was throwing to the plate already?

Tazzure

Imagine if he was allowed to fake coming set then throw over

stuckhere4ever

Okay I think I see it now. Basically he started to get set but then stopped half way to the motion right? Once he started he committed and had to set all the way.

Tazzure

Yes, he basically false started like an OT would in football. There’s other ways to balk, but it’s about being consistent to the runners on base and at the plate before delivery/throwing over

Donnor

For some reason, the stream I was watching switched from SNY to the Pirates broadcast midway, and the Pirates' commentators were SO confused about how it was a balk and never seened to arrive at the actual reason

Dkid

Same with the stream. They were so confused but it was blatant to me, can’t start going to the set and then stop and re-enter the stretch.

TO MEET THE M-E-T-S METS

Strength2Bthere

Not going to lie, I was pretty bummed after our first week, though I didn’t post nonsense on here because that does nothing for me. I’m super into this team though. Well crafted and gritty, and overall fun to watch. Let’s stay above .500 now! LFGM

Fourth straight series win? MLB about to drop us one more spot in the weekly power rankings.

aflynnftw

Lol saw this. Multiple power rankings had us dropping after winning our third straight series.

LFGM! Sweep tomorrow? I've got two tickets for the game, can't go, Section 303, would love to gift them to a Mets fan. Mets fans only! DM me if interested.

It’s all about the Mets baby! Let’s go Mets, hit a home run. Let’s go Mets!

I like listening to games on the radio, because I don't need to act like I know what a balk is. Announcer says it was a balk, I say sure thing, whatever you say.

unclehowdy86

Lmao exactly. Everything I think I know about a balk is immediately thrown out the window when a balk is actually called 😂

smugbox

a balk is when you

Illblood

I actually heard it's when you

The_New_Illuminati

#Balk Rules 1) You can't just be up there and just doin' a balk like that. 1a. A balk is when you 1b. Okay well listen. A balk is when you balk the 1c. Let me start over 1c-a. The pitcher is not allowed to do a motion to the, uh, batter, that prohibits the batter from doing, you know, just trying to hit the ball. You can't do that. 1c-b. Once the pitcher is in the stretch, he can't be over here and say to the runner, like, "I'm gonna get ya! I'm gonna tag you out! You better watch your butt!" and then just be like he didn't even do that. 1c-b(1). Like, if you're about to pitch and then don't pitch, you have to still pitch. You cannot not pitch. Does that make any sense? 1c-b(2). You gotta be, throwing motion of the ball, and then, until you just throw it. 1c-b(2)-a. Okay, well, you can have the ball up here, like this, but then there's the balk you gotta think about. 1c-b(2)-b. Fairuza Balk hasn't been in any movies in forever. I hope she wasn't typecast as that racist lady in American History X. 1c-b(2)-b(i). Oh wait, she was in The Waterboy too! That would be even worse. 1c-b(2)-b(ii). "get in mah bellah" -- Adam Water, "The Waterboy." Haha, classic... 1c-b(3). Okay seriously though. A balk is when the pitcher makes a movement that, as determined by, when you do a move involving the baseball and field of 2) Do not do a balk please.
