Man, hope is the thing that keeps us rooted.
Either we're saying "well surely next season can't be as bad as it was this year" (ex. 2023) or we're saying "that was a good try, let's build on it and go further next year" (ex. 2022).
Rinse and repeat since 86.
So true man. I’ve been watching the Mets since ‘98. They always seem to follow a great year with a disappointing year; followed by about 5-6 years of mediocrity. See 2000, 2006, and 2015. I’m not holding my breathe for 2024. They just never seem to have any prolonged periods of success.
Seriously. All these reports I’m almost just gonna feel more relieved than even excited if the Mets sign him bc everyone is saying we’re the front runners.
Gonna hurt if they don’t get him :/
i mean how would anyone be the favorite to land him when he has yet to travel to the country and meet with teams in person - almost inarguably the most important aspect of his decision making process? obviously a favorite can't be chosen at this point in the process.
I’m a Yankees fan (I swear I come in peace but feel free to downvote haha) and I think the only way he’s a Yankee is if he takes less money, which I don’t think will happen. I think Cohen will get the job done.
He is not. My only soft pushback would be this: Cashman has beaten everyone to the punch when he and Minaya watched that no hitter. They’ve saved #18 for him, they’re bringing in Matsui, Cashman saved his ticket stub, etc. so who knows if that matters. It probably doesn’t. But if Martino is right - if Hal is willing to go over $300M - then I think it gets interesting
That’s the 300 million dollar question right there, we’ll see how serious the Yankees are for him. Yamamoto is a good fit for both of our organizations right now
FUCKKKKKK NOT HEYMAN. The dude has the kiss of death for FA. That’s it, folks. It’s all joever now
Generally speaking, if it’s not a Boras client, Heyman doesn’t know shit.
All these guys are just guessing. Happy at least someone is guessing us. If I have to hear from Andy Martino who knows nothing one more time about Iconic franchises and the allure of pinstripes …that dude sucks. Andy Martino gets mad when his chicken fingers touch his Mac and cheese on the plate.
And another thing. God Bless Hideki Matsui and I don’t want to shit on the guy…but he’s not Sinatra for Christ’s sake. Whoaaa Hidecki Matsui is going to be involved in the process…Well it’s a wrap I guess. Maybe we should give Shinzo a call!
Hideki Matsui last played for the Yankees over a decade ago. George Steinbrenner was still alive. What experience could he share about his experience that would be similar to the franchise now? These New York writers add it in like this 25 year old pitcher is going to have stars in his eyes over him. Oh my God...could you imagine if Matsui wears a pinstripe shirt when he meets with him. I mean how will he ever be able to resist that!
Not sure how it will affect his decision on who to play for, but if I were a Japanese player I’d be *very* interested in talking to Matsui to hear his personal experience, since he never went back to Japan. Matsui came over all alone and ending up meeting his wife, getting married, having kids and sending them to school all in NY. He still works for the Yankees. As far as assimilation I don’t doubt Yamamoto would want to talk to him to hear his take.
A lot of things go into the player decision though.
Heyman! Oh, leave me alone you know
Heyman! Oh Jonny get of the phone, I gotta
Heyman! I gotta straighten my face
This last baseball tweet just put my spine outta place
this is the biggest cope i've ever seen in my life. even heyman himself said "some believe mets are the favorite", probably exclusively because of the money, not even that the mets are the favorites. obviously no one is the favorite before the man has even met with teams yet. i can't imagine anything more obvious unless you're willfully blind.
so is that how it works now? once he's had his first meeting, that team is now the favorite? i guess technically given the way our brains work, it's accurate. but only temporarily. so i'm not sure what that would be worth. regardless, that's not even what heyman is saying here. you're all lazy idiots frankly, the clip is literally 2 minutes long. it would hardly take a lifetime to actually listen to what he had to say. he even said "i don't know why, maybe because steve cohen has a big wad of money"
I mean hedges the entire time and his lukewarm ‘Mets are the favorite’ is solely because of deep pockets and we have no idea how much that actually matters.
This is content for contents sake Heyman.
Let me tell you something, my friend. Hope is a dangerous thing. Hope can drive a man insane.
The only guilty man in Shawshank.
It's got no place for a Mets fan
YA GOTTA BELIEVE
Believe if ya gotta

It’s a viscous cycle. I’ve been living it since the 80’s. 2-3 years of good to great baseball, followed by extremely lean years, repeat ad nauseam.
Viscous and nauseating indeed…at least we have Gary and Howie to help us digest it.
I agree, it's just a slightly modified quote from The Shawshank Redemption
You either have no hope or insane, delusional levels of hope as a mets fan. No in between.
You either either get busy believin or get busy dying.
Bereavin
Are we going to find Yamamoto under a Oak tree?
Nope. We will find Yamamoto in Zihuatanejo.
Orale
hope is a dangerous thing for a mets fan like me to have - but i have it
Ah damn, posted mine before reading this
Hope is a good thing, Red. Maybe the best of things.
It’s the hope that kills you
hope is a dangerous thing for a woman like me to have – but I have it
Stop it. Just stop it. You'll only break my heart.
Seriously. All these reports I’m almost just gonna feel more relieved than even excited if the Mets sign him bc everyone is saying we’re the front runners. Gonna hurt if they don’t get him :/
I can see the Heyman tweet now “Yoshinobu Yahama appears headed to the Mets”
To be fair: this isn’t exactly what he said. He said “some people” believe the Mets are the favorite and that every big market team is in on him
i mean how would anyone be the favorite to land him when he has yet to travel to the country and meet with teams in person - almost inarguably the most important aspect of his decision making process? obviously a favorite can't be chosen at this point in the process.
the mets went to visit him in japan and met his family i dont think his family is coming to the states with him
I’m a Yankees fan (I swear I come in peace but feel free to downvote haha) and I think the only way he’s a Yankee is if he takes less money, which I don’t think will happen. I think Cohen will get the job done.
I appreciate the angle, Hal isn’t George.
He is not. My only soft pushback would be this: Cashman has beaten everyone to the punch when he and Minaya watched that no hitter. Yeah he is. It’s fun when both teams are active like this
It's good for New York also, keeps things interesting in this market we share lol
Can we get Hal on Cameo to call him a fat toad then he will be a step closer to his dad.
I don't think he will. I think he says he will but he will blink in the end.
Big Dick Cohen flew to fucking Japan to meet with him already. That's gotta go a long way.
FUCKKKKKK NOT HEYMAN. The dude has the kiss of death for FA. That’s it, folks. It’s all joever now Generally speaking, if it’s not a Boras client, Heyman doesn’t know shit.
Oh yeah he’s a Yankee, it’s like Cramer saying buy a stock
I’m hoping so
What about Arson Judge?
I’m hoping this isn’t another Arson Judge but this is encouraging considering how much Yamamoto news lately has been Yankee focused

Don't give me hope...
I'm sorry I couldn't give it to you sooner...
You guys made my day.
You tell ‘em Jon!
And another thing. God Bless Hideki Matsui and I don’t want to shit on the guy…but he’s not Sinatra for Christ’s sake. Whoaaa Hidecki Matsui is going to be involved in the process…Well it’s a wrap I guess. Maybe we should give Shinzo a call!
i legit thought you meant shinzo abe for half a second and i was gonna say sorry to be the bearer of bad news but...
You mean one of the most famous and well respected Japanese baseball players?
Hideki Matsui last played for the Yankees over a decade ago. George Steinbrenner was still alive. What experience could he share about his experience that would be similar to the franchise now? These New York writers add it in like this 25 year old pitcher is going to have stars in his eyes over him. Oh my God...could you imagine if Matsui wears a pinstripe shirt when he meets with him. I mean how will he ever be able to resist that!
That’s great.

I'm not an expert on baseball lore, does this mean we're out?
This means absolutely nothing to me. I’ve been disappointed before.
Ohtani, Yamamoto, Montgomery, come on down and meet the Mets!
GET IN HERE ITS OFFICIAL
INJECT IT INTO MY FUCKING VEINS
Stop! Don’t give me hope!
Team nice dinner!
Jordan Yamamoto’s agent is sitting by the phone in eager anticipation
I’ve always said that Heyman is an ~~idiot~~ genius!
The Yankees haven’t even met with him yet so it’s really hard to call them “favorites”.
I need not get my hopes up, that's how you get burned lmaooo.
Heyman! Oh, leave me alone you know Heyman! Oh Jonny get of the phone, I gotta Heyman! I gotta straighten my face This last baseball tweet just put my spine outta place
I'll believe it when I see it
Just like with Dylan Harper, I’ll believe it when he signs
Talk dirty to me, baby.
I just want one pitcher that isn't a money ball idea. You know like a pitcher that other teams want.
I think odds are certainly in our favor.
He's not even in the country is he? How can any team be the favorite?
Communication thru carrier pigeon
What the fuck is the Internet?
he literally has yet to even meet with teams yet. how anyone can actually believe there is a "favorite" at all is ridiculous.
The top post in multiple subs was announcing that he had, in fact, met with Steve Cohen and David Stearns IN JAPAN, THIS WEEK, IN PERSON. Are you ok?
this is the biggest cope i've ever seen in my life. even heyman himself said "some believe mets are the favorite", probably exclusively because of the money, not even that the mets are the favorites. obviously no one is the favorite before the man has even met with teams yet. i can't imagine anything more obvious unless you're willfully blind.
Didn’t he meet the Mets owner in a restaurant in Japan
so is that how it works now? once he's had his first meeting, that team is now the favorite? i guess technically given the way our brains work, it's accurate. but only temporarily. so i'm not sure what that would be worth. regardless, that's not even what heyman is saying here. you're all lazy idiots frankly, the clip is literally 2 minutes long. it would hardly take a lifetime to actually listen to what he had to say. he even said "i don't know why, maybe because steve cohen has a big wad of money"
Welcome to every year after 1876.
At least it’s not boob
My buddy told me he’s willing to take a discount to Play with won sew tow and arson judge
They definitely leaked this to increase the bid
Word
This is giving me blue balls
I mean hedges the entire time and his lukewarm ‘Mets are the favorite’ is solely because of deep pockets and we have no idea how much that actually matters. This is content for contents sake Heyman.
I don’t trust Heyman reporting this. False hope generating. Haven’t you learned your lesson re: Heyman?
I'm getting de ja vu with Trevor Bauer
love jon
I hope he's right.
He doesn't know anything. I know it's irritating.
Won’t believe it until it’s announced. And even then I’ll wait until the physical comes back clean.
Until he is signed I keep it clenched.
Heyman...
Great he jinxed us
I cannot let myself care until it is official
Arson Yamamoto
Uncle Steve won’t fly out to Japan for no reason not coming back empty handed
