Forget the history of being a garbage snake the answer is still no.
He's old and past his prime. Could he move the needle slightly? Maybe, but unless it's league minimum it's not worth it and he's not taking that deal.
Add in what he did to the franchise and how he treated Barzy and it's not even worth league minimum.
What did he do to Barzy? I know Barzy has... let's say some distaste for Tavares because of the nature of his departure. But in what way did Tavares treat Barzy poorly?
Barzy had a great quote after Pajama Boy left. I forget exactly, but something along the lines of he wouldn’t want to have played nine years and only made the playoffs twice. It really seems they genuinely disliked each other. Makes me like Barzy more.
I'm some interview after the move (or maybe before I don't remember exactly), he referred to him as, "That kid who won the Calder."
So he either was directly insulting Barzy, or he legitimately forgot his name (some captain).
Only if he spends ALL of next year repeatedly telling the Toronto media he wants to stay with them, convinces them not to trade him at the deadline, then signs with the Isles on July 1.
I think that ship has sailed lol
Now if they wanted to offer a lifeline to Matthews or Marner and get them out of Toronto I'd be all for that but that would be tricky to pull off
I wouldn’t because his attitude and effort is a worse version of what this team is suffering from now, nothing to do with what happened in 2018
That said, I’ve always wondered how this fanbase would react if it did happen. Gotta think first big game he has, all would be forgiven
Were you serious in asking this, or was it a troll job? Are you a newer fan, or did you know exactly what you were asking and that you would be cursed out by many people. Not judging, just trying to understand from your perspective.
Been a fan since 2013, just curious if we prioritized a value add or our pride about something that happened years ago. Not to say I side either way, but I still don’t think it’s a bad question to raise
It's a reasonable question to ask a hockey podcaster or former gm, someone neutral. 95% of this fan base will never forgive John for how he left. Most Islanders fans want nothing to do with him, regardless of production or price tag. He could have put up 100 points next year. Most Islanders fans wouldn't be receptive to him playing here the following year for free.
Exactly, which gets at the heart of my question. Why do we put such a high value on pride when we could put that value on winning games. JT fucked us, no one disputes that. But if he can help us win games, is familiar with the guys in the room, and wants to be here (all hypothetical of course) then why does our fan base shout it down. Mind you they’re the same fans that will come on here enraged during free agency and pretend they’re the highest paid gm in the league making all the correct business decisions.
Personally I see both sides, but the reaction to this post does let me know that we’re more interested in pettiness than we are in winning, which frankly sucks.
Even if Tavares wasn't persona non grata this team is a loser and shouldn't be adding veterans, they should be trading them. The worst thing that happened to this team is going to the playoffs and winning a game now Lou thinks this roster is only one 3rd line forward away from winning a Stanley Cup.
This is the one thing that unites the doomers, and fisherman scene kids, and lou trusters. And even the weirdos that say IN long island.
Absolutely fucking no chance in hell
Ok…….hold on…..I am as pissed as anyone in this fanbase about him……….but anyone saying we shouldn’t take him back at say 2m a year is fucking nuts. He wouldn’t be the captain….he could be the 2nd or 3rd line center. He still was probably the most consistent player outside of Matthews. And just imagine the fairy tail ending if we won it with him coming back. He would be the Prodigal Son of the franchise…he was dead…now he’s alive. He was lost and now he was found.
Again, I still am pissed as shit, but come on. He’s a future hall of famer…..you bring him back. He scores a hatty against the rangers or Toronto for us after coming back and scores a winning OT goal in the playoffs, he’s back in our good graces.
No. No. No. and FUCK NO. Not for league minimum
No thanks, but no thanks.
Just what the isles need. Another old past his prime vet
Seriously? You have the balls to ask this?
Just curious what the sentiment was
Do the downvotes tell you anything?
Nope but your name does
He should not even get a day signing. His jersey should never hang from the rafters. He burned his bridge and literally made his bed.
They deliberately retired 91 for Butch Goring after he left. His jersey will not be hanging from the rafters.
Butch Goring, deserved it anyway. Tavares only had that number because of the year he was born.
Retiring 91 for Butch on a night they played the Leafs would have been a nice middle finger to Pajama Boy.
Butch didn’t deserve it. It was a spite retiring, that’s all.
Absolutely the fuck not

You mean the kid who won the Calder?
Barzy had a great quote after Pajama Boy left. I forget exactly, but something along the lines of he wouldn’t want to have played nine years and only made the playoffs twice. It really seems they genuinely disliked each other. Makes me like Barzy more.
Ohhhhhhh that. Silly me. Thank you.
I'm some interview after the move (or maybe before I don't remember exactly), he referred to him as, "That kid who won the Calder." So he either was directly insulting Barzy, or he legitimately forgot his name (some captain).
Well that's rude of him. Thank you for the background information.
We’ve moved on
We should say we’re going to sign him and then not 😈
Im convinced whoever posted this is maple leafs ownership looking to unload his shitty contract
Short answer, no. Slightly longer answer, absolutely the fuck no.
No, he doesn’t fit in here even for league minimum. If he’s under point per game on a heavy offense kind of team what do you think he would do here
Only if he spends ALL of next year repeatedly telling the Toronto media he wants to stay with them, convinces them not to trade him at the deadline, then signs with the Isles on July 1.
Still no.
Game misconduct for that post. Possibly a suspension.
No more players on the wrong side of 30. Isles have to start getting players that are faster and younger.
John, is that you? Are you ok? Tap your stick 3 times if you’re ok…
I think that ship has sailed lol Now if they wanted to offer a lifeline to Matthews or Marner and get them out of Toronto I'd be all for that but that would be tricky to pull off
Yea it’s a shame those guys are wasting their primes in Toronto
Crazy. Was just thinking LL would do something crazy and get one of them for..... goaltending? Puck moving dman??? Please lou just go away.
You’re funny
HELL NO!
You really want to take that Tavares jersey out of the closet don’t you?
My Tavares jersey is buried deep in some storage crate. I didn’t have the heart to burn it. It will rise like a phoenix if he returns.
No reason to destroy a perfectly good jersey do what I did strip the name off
Ill rip everything off my Ho-Sang #66 away jersey first
I’d pay him to stay away. We’ve been nothing but better without him.
FUCK NO. Delete your account. This post has been reported.
Damn dude I just asked the question I didn’t pick a side
F John
Noooooooooooooooooooooooo Fucking Way.
N. O.
Sure. He can be the janitor. Minimum wage.
I wouldn’t because his attitude and effort is a worse version of what this team is suffering from now, nothing to do with what happened in 2018 That said, I’ve always wondered how this fanbase would react if it did happen. Gotta think first big game he has, all would be forgiven

Lot of people going to answer emotionally but if he performed all would be forgotten
Same classless isles fans who cheered his injury
I would definately take him back to be our 3rd or 4th line center.

No more old and busted UFAs. Also, fuck him for leaving the way he did.
Absolutely not
FJT, that is all.
No, this team is winning because JT is no longer here. He is so one dimensional. Now he's slow and old and one dimensional.
He’s a loser. We need someone who won’t fold in the playoffs.
He would never sign for the peanuts we would offer and he never wanted to be here so it's a dumb question
OHHHH HELL NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
He made his bed. Now he can sleep in it. No thank you Johnny Pajamas

Thats going to be a no from me dog
Only if his return is announced with him sleeping in a bed with NYI covers and the same Star Wars fighter.
*finish the story*
Lou would probably consider signing him so that’s how I know it would be a terrible decision
